The construction of the Chama-Matumbo road in Muchinga Province is expected to be completed in December this year.

The 115 kilometres stretch, which is being constructed from the great north road in Shiwang’andu district to Luangwa bridge enroute to Chama district is being built at a cost of K399 million by China Jiangxi Corporation.

Constitution works on the project, which started in December 2012, have seen 60km being tarred so far.

The Road Development Agency (RDA) board led by its deputy chairperson Phidelia Mwaba toured the project to inspect the quality of works and the progress made on the road.

Ms. Mwaba expressed satisfaction with the quality of works and the pace at which the contractor is carrying out works.

She noted that the road was important to the country as it links Muchinga and Eastern provinces thereby opening up business and tourism opportunities in the two regions.

She stated that once completed, the road will allow farmers in Matumbo to access market for their farm produce and further give ease access to tourists from the neighbouring Tanzania to connect travel quickly between Mfuwe and Luangwa National park.

Ms. Mwaba stated that apart from creating job opportunities for local people, the road will generally open up the area for economic development.

  1. Livingstone has come to a standstill, HH is addressing a sea of people. Am part of the crowd and proud to give you a first hand account of what is happening. The crowd is twice larger than the one Vodka addressed in his home town Chipata. Wina azalila. Pics will follow later.

    • May be they are watching Pilato and Petersen. Remember Southern Province is the fifth largest electoral college according the voter register.

HH needs to increase his chances on the copperbelt , Lusaka , Eastern , muchinga , central and Luapula. His strongholds represent 30% of the registered voters only. His chances are still not clear . He needs to be campaigning in areas were is not popular like the copperbelt.

  2. Where is the rest of 5500km? I hope it didn’t go in someone’s pockets. Not too long ago, I was shocked at the status of the M10 road that runs Kazungula to Katima Mulilo. Contrarily to the reports I read in the media about the developmental projects taking place in Zambia, this road resembled the aftermath of a tsunami.

  3. These PF thieves never stop lying. I wonder what method they were using to priotise these roads. Like @Biz I found it very difficult to drive from Katimamulilo to Kazungula. The other major road where I had a nightmare is T5 from Chingola to Solwezi. It took me 5 and half hours to drive 160 km because of deep trenches. Not potholes but drumholes. Lucky I drove during the day, it is very dangerous to drive in the night. You see accident almost every 5-10 km. Michael Chimbwi Sata took all the money from the mines to go and build roads and universities in Muchinga. I could not believe that the road leading to some of the biggest mines in Africa could be neglected like that. Surely the people from that province should have been relieved when they heard that Chimbwi was dead. Let HH rule!!!!!

    • Doing 2500 km of new roads and not Periodic rehabilitation . stop exhibiting you low IQ.

Sata did a lot in a short time. The bridge in Chiawa , Luangwa-Fera road, Chalimbana and Palabana universities, Mulobezi general hospital , Sha ngombo -livungu canal, Nangoma road are not in Muchinga pronvince

  4. Barely interested enough to ask…Where is RDA stationed at this point? Still at state house?……yawn…..

  5. UPND you are full of rubbish and demons . The roads are done separately just as the ring road at Kafue Round about. If something good is done appreciate not this rubbish. Always critising just for the seek of envy and lacking something to offer. No part is more developed than the other. Three years massive development not even Levy did what Sata has done

  6. @pafwenamwine, you appreciate and give praise where it is due but not what is happening on these projects. Michael Chimbwi Sata and his cahoots had devised this project as a way of just stealing money without being blamed. The so called roads which they are making, are below sub standards and with the torrential rains in Zambia, I would be surprised if they last more than 3 years. The road markings look as though they were done by hand and the tar on some of the roads is already coming out especially the roads in eastern province. These guys just wanted to get money through commissions and kick backs. The idea was good but where are the inspectors if they are serious in making good roads?

  7. Please ba UPND today is not your time leave it for PF to continue with the work.I dont know ba UPND if you come into power even next year.if you cant beat them the solution is to join them period.
