Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) officials manning the Nakonde border post have denied newly appointed Muchinga Province minister, Mwimba Malama access to inspect the one-stop border check point.

The drama unfolded yesterday when the provincial minister was kept waiting for close to 30 minutes for the ZRA officials but despite being pardoned for coming late, the officers refused to open the newly constructed one –stop – border facility for inspection.

The acting assistant commissioner for ZRA, David Mungela informed the minister that he had instructions from Lusaka that only officials from Lusaka were being awaited to inspect the facility on that day.

Mr Mungela insisted that he could only brief the minister in the old wing of ZRA offices a thing that annoyed the Minister forcing him to abandon his familiarization tour of the facility.

Earlier, the minister arrived at the border post and managed to inspect the external surroundings in the presence of council and district commissioner’s officials where it has been discovered that foreigners from Tanzania have encroached the no-man’s land and built structures there.

The provincial minister has since apportioned blame on government officials operating in Nakonde for allowing foreigners to take over the land in question without interventions.

Mr Malama called on the District Commissioners office to immediately arrange a stakeholder’s bilateral meeting with the Tanzanian counterparts to bring sanity to the operations at the border and ensure that squatters are removed.

He said there is need for security officers to seriously scrutinize all foreign nationals renting property on the Zambian side for business as many have no proper documentation to live in Zambia.

The Provincial Minister said the security concerns being raised by the local leadership is being pointed at foreigners perpetrating crimes a situation he said must come to an end by involving traditional leadership and the council that are giving out land for development.

  1. bushe kuya fye kwati nikumabala..these guys needs to learn some publi/person relations and diplomatic etiquette. You cant just wake up and pull yourself to go and inspect because you feel you are somebody. There are rules to be followed.

    • Hahahaha!!! The Minister thought he could just walk into any premises because of his title. He’s not even a cabinet Minister but some minister of some little unknown boundary. Learn to make appointments sir!

    • Nice one, because Ministers in Zambia think they own the country. You have to follow orders. Being a Minister in Muchinga does not automatically give the power to just show-up at any party.

  2. …Its a sign that the people from Lusaka do not want you. WAKE UP!! If you are the Provincial Minister for Muchinga, why should you wait for the people from Lusaka for the inspection?

Who is in a better position to inspect and give a report?

Wake up and smell the coffee

  3. Even my boss who’s a real estate developer calls his secretary before coming to the office and makes appointment with the site supervisors or foreman at a day in advance before going to inspect the multi million dollar building projects. if the foreman or contractor are not ready to show him anything new they explain why and agree on a different date. Showing up unexpected or unwanted you just depress yourself.

  4. Mwalishupa gentlemen. kuti mwayalemba mu toilet at Malama was here. filya twalelemba muma toilet na bog. ati shanishani was here. sugo. They had to wait for Lusaka to inspect it before you give a report that sinks are missing kanshi mwatwala ku plot

    • Dull chap! So what, if Kalaba is small or big? Instead, you should be asking why Malama, deputy minister in Muchinga who is the subject, is not shown in the picture.

  5. I forgive the minister’s age. What he should know is that most of Tunduma is built on Zambian land. This happened under President Kaunda and it was agreed between Kaunda and Nyerere to leave matters as they were. The most recent development which should concern the minister is the fact that all Tazanian border posts in Mbala are built 7 km inside Zambia. This issue has been discussed but has never been resolved. This needs to be addressed urgently.

  6. ZRA is inherently corrupt. These guys were hiding undeclared stuff there and they didn’t want the minister to see the contraband. If you have nothing to hide it doesnt matter what minister visits you will open for him

    • The minister had the right to tour the facility, only that these thugs taking government business into their own tuntemba are rude.

    • There is nothing with on the spot checks by a Minister. That way corrupt ZRA officials can be caught. They are corrupt to the core. That is how they have built houses in Chalala. Something needs to be done about the bribery and corruption in ZRA. Little does the government realise that it loses a lot of money through this. Government should publish duty on imported cars so that clients don’t waste time. Lack of published duties result in sharing revenue with ZRA employees. Sad!

  7. AM ONLY SEEING 3 DOGS HERE WHERE IS THE STUPID MAN MWIMBA MALAMA TO MAKE IT FOUR DOGS,
CAN ONLY SEE A MAN IN A DRESS,A PIGYMY IN THE MIDDLE AND A MAD LOOKING MAN LIKE A MENTAL PATIENT ON THE RIGHT.
PF HAS UGLY ,FOOLISH ,STUPID MINISTERS

  8. this is what we are paying these empty tins for inspecting buildings for photo opportunities…really laughable…we can do without them!!

  9. When he was Minister of Health, Sata would dress like an old man and go to UTH without the knowledge of Nurses and he could find them fatting when they were supposed to be helping patients. He never used to say, I will be coming to UTH to see how you guys work but would just show up. These ZRA people were hidding something. They was even late for work?? OMG! Zambian work culture for sure

  10. We get loan for Zimbabwe and at nakonde Tanzania is building on the no man’s land while the zambian officials are watching. There will nothing for the future generation with the way things are going in our country

  11. It simply shows that most people posting here are very dull. Thats a Provincial Minister visiting a Government statutory body collecting our money and he has a right to go there anytime. They were hiding something and if it was Sata heads would have rolled by now.
