Chief government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has refuted claims made by UPND that the PF government is shielding the people who brutally murdered UPND member Grayzer Matapa over the weekend.
UPND President Hakainde Hichilema revealed in a letter addressed to President Lungu that the late Matapa had earlier filed a report at the Woodlands Police station of the malicious damage to his property by PF cadres but Police turned a blind eye to his plight.Mr.Hakainde Hichilema called on President Lungu to stop the political violence in the country perpetuated by PF cadres.
However Hon Kambwili says UPND should not seek political capital out of the death of a citizen at the hands of criminals. He advised the UPND to desist from politicising the matter as doing so has potential to jeopardize investigations.On behalf of the government Hon Kambwili conveyed his deepest condolences to the family of the late Grayzer Matapa.He said the thoughts and sympathies of the Government are with the bereaved family at this sad and untimely loss.

STATEMENT BY HON. CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI, MP, MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING SERVICES AND CHIEF GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON ON THE DEATH OF A MTENDERE RESIDENT, GRAYZER MATAPA
Government wishes to convey its deepest condolences to the family of the late Grayzer Matapa, who was killed by criminals in Lusaka’s Mtendere township at the weekend.
The thoughts and sympathies of the Government are with the bereaved family at this sad and untimely loss.
And Government wishes to dismiss allegations from opposition UPND that it is shielding people behind the death of the late Mr. Matapa.
The allegations are untrue and unfortunate.
UPND should not seek political capital out of the death of a citizen at the hands of criminals. The party is, therefore, advised to desist from politicising this matter as doing so has potential to jeopardize investigations.
Rather, police should be allowed to professionally and thoroughly investigate the matter and bring to book people behind this act of criminality.
This is a matter that government condemns in the strongest terms and urges the police not to rest until perpetrators behind this lawless and barbaric act are brought to book.
Government has a duty to protect life and property of its citizens and not to shield criminals, as alleged by some opposition political leaders.
It ought to be stressed that politics is not about barbarism and criminality. It is about providing leadership for the wellbeing of the people. Therefore, no one should hide behind politics to engage in acts of lawlessness.
Government also wishes to call on the media to be responsible and not to fan political rivalry which can plunge the country into chaos.
Zambians cherish peace which they have enjoyed for time immemorial and cannot allow politics to divide them.
The loyalty of the media, therefore, should always be to the Zambian people and not to narrow political agendas.

HH should try to work with the law on this instead of throwing unsubstantiated allegations.
The gov’t has put out so much media in the last week on law and order. They have shown no favour to PF gangsters, in deed ordering them to stop. His Excellency has removed his support to such members/cadres.
HH can only hurt his profile by constant unreasonable allegations including not conceding when he lost, choosing to make false allegations unsupported by the international community at large.
If he ever comes to power how will he be perceived by his counterparts? I think it is best not to burn bridges and be statesman like. Approach this matter as a legal matter. If he has any evidence to assist the police he ought to give it to them.
