I will still be rich – GBM

EXPELLED Patriotic Front (PF) member of parliament Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba says he will lose nothing even if he is expelled from the PF.

In an interview Mwamba said he will still remain GBM and that nothing will be taken away from him after losing the Kasama seat if the move succeeds.

“I still have money, if I am expelled from the PF I will still remain rich and enjoy my life like before,” he said.

Mr Mwamba said he was there before PF and that he will still be there after PF.

The Kasama lawmaker said he did not appear before the disciplinary committee because he was not written to.

“I just heard things in the media, but there was no letter that came to me. I am not a job seeker to be hearing things in the media and respond there and then,” he said.

Mr Mwamba has since filed an injunction in the Lusaka high court restraining the PF disciplinary committee led by lawyer Tutwa Ngulube not to expel him.

Yesterday the PF disciplinary committee expelled Mr Mwamba from the PF for bring the party and the name of its president Edgar Lungu into disrepute after openly campaigning for opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) in the January presidential by election.

Mr Mwamba was given  a letter dated March 5, 2015, and signed by President Lungu.

“The party decided to extend the time within which you should have exculpated yourself but your lawyers, Mushipe and Associates, indicated to us that you will not be in a position to do so.
“The party, therefore, expels you from the party with immediate effect from March 5. The Speaker of the National Assembly has been informed of the position,” the letter reads.

Mr Mwamba was  expected to appear before the Tutwa Ngulube-led disciplinary committee at the party secretariat but failed to do so.

“We gave Mr Mwamba five chances to respond to charges levelled against him but he has decided to ignore. In accordance with PF constitution, we declare that Mr Mwamba is no longer a member of PF and so he has ceased to be amember of Parliament on the PF ticket,” Mr Ngulube said and immediately recommended the expulsion of the Kasama Central legislator.

Mr Ngulube explained that several letters were written to Mr Mwamba and phone calls made but to no avail.

“Today, we waited for Mr Mwamba for two and half hours but he has failed to show up. We will not be held to ransom by any member even if he is a member of Parliament.”

“No procedure can go on perpetually. We have to close this case and Mr Mwamba is free to appeal to the necessary bodies,” he said.

Mr Ngulube said all PF members are subject to rules and regulations of the party.

“A political party is a club whose membership is voluntary. These sanctions are not new. There is no dual membership. You cannot belong to the PF and belong to the UPND at the same time; it’s immoral,” he said.

Mr Ngulube said it is unfortunate that expelled members are rushing to “court to seek injunctions when on the other hand they insult and demean the very party they are clinging on to”.

“Today, the National Assembly is full of members with court injunctions. This will destroy democracy because in a democracy, loyalty matters. I hope the judiciary will help sort out this issue,” he said.

Mr Ngulube said the PF wants to promote the rule of law.

“We engaged independent law firms in this matter for the sake of fairness and transparency. We have followed procedure and we wanted to meet Mr Mwamba in person after he failed to respond to our letters,” he said.

Mr Ngulube said he has recordings of his conversations with Mr Mwamba pertaining to his case.

In one of the phone conversations with Mr Ngulube, Mr Mwamba said: “I will come when I want to. And I don’t want ba [the] Press. What are they doing there?” he asked.

Mr Ngulube then asked Mr Mwamba if he would attend the hearing to which he responded: “Okay nshaiseko [Okay, I will not come].”

  1. Zambia requires more rich people who are free thinkers, independent and will not be pushed around by anybody. GBM shouldn’t be ashamed of being wealthy. If he didn’t have the riches he wouldn’t have assisted PF the way he did.

    • HH is even more rich than GBM. Tell me 2 more rich ones who are getting closer to billionaire Kavindere. I tell you, money is more powerful than an erection.
Show them GBM, take those PF even to international courts, sue them for defamation etc etc, demand K4 million like Mutembo fimofimo, torment those Chamas…

    • I have great respect for this man. Even the MCS feared him. GBM if you are reading please continue to stand by what is right and not a temporary status in society such as a minister. I for one support people like you. Like the late Levy Mwanawasa you earn my respect. Unlike the our cowardice president who could not tell the late MCS he disagreed with him until after his death he begins to reverse things. Anyways, HH is winning the 2016 election and Zambia will be a better place.

    • It’s very generous of GBM to have helped the party but that doesn’t mean he should hold the party to ransom. He doesn’t own the party the man is arrogant. One can easily tell that those that have respect for GBM not heeding to party rules belong to opposition which in my opinion is not objectivity. Outside politics is this not the same who was convicted for growing cannabis?

    • @Nostradamus, money more powerful than an “erection?” Hmmm…., food for thought or is it a slip on the keyboard; perhaps?

    • Ba mambala imwe, no one is accusing GBM of being RICH. He is being accused of “BRINGING THE NAME OF THE PARTY AND THE NAME OF ITS PRESIDENT EDIGAR LUNGU INTO DISREPUTE.” That’s what the charge is. Not the garbage GBM and some !d!ots are spouting off here!

PF, like any other political party, is a “political club” whose members agree to be ruled/governed by a set of laws and rules put forth by the party. Just because one has money and rich shouldn’t make anyone think that they are above the rules/laws. If you don’t agree or feel that you can abide by the set rules and norms of a particular party, the DIGNIFIED and HONORABLE thing to do is RESIGN and go in peace. Why waste your precious time filing court injunctions instead of concentrating on getting even RICHER?

      JUST GO!

    • In Christianity, it’s very dangerous and suicidal to appoint a person into church leadership based on their riches and not integrity, character and christian maturity. Such kind of people are likely to possess the church and put the pastor in their pocket. It is difficult to discipline such people when they start misbehaving in the church. To them money is more important than character and personal integrity and this is the path that GBM has taken from the time he entered politics. When he stood in Kabwata constituency against Lubinda if I’m not mistaken, he wanted to dish out K 10 million and some hammer mills until he was stopped by ECZ. Money is an amplifier and not wisdom, if you give money to a fool, he will become more foolish. You give the same to a wise man,he will be more wiser.

    • @Nostradamus…
Tell them mwandi,,, these peope who are addicted to erections!!, GBM has stood his ground,,,
This Lungu guy is a shame!!!!,,, he `appoints` people and those people dance to RB`s songs,,, crazy!!!

    • GBM would to do well to continue as a businessman than a politician but when you have money, why not do both? He should drop the temper and arrogance and he will be on the right track.

Enjoy your wealth big guy, you only live once.

    • More costly bye-elections!!!! In addition to 3 by-elections in Chawama, Masaiti and some other place we will now have Kasama Central, Sinjembela, Itezhi tezhi and Siamunene’s constituency. This is too much, Zambians. We must pressurise the PF government to do the right thing – NEW CONSTITUTION!!!!!!!!!!!

We need a constitution that will save tax payers’ money for funding projects that are of direct benefit to the people. By-elections only benefit immediate family members of those who win and ECZ officials who earn more allowances!!

I still find it hard why the PF government does not want a new constitution.

    • only a f00l thinks in terms money all the time when offering service to the nation

GBM needs to know the not everything in life is about money. There’s more to life than just being rich.

      Good riddance PF

  2. With this type of arrogance, aba ba gbm will not make it politically. He should have learned from Sata and Lungu that it takes simplicity to be superior.

    • GBM is not arrogant, he just live a bigger life than his riches. This how a successful man should lead a life… it is to share it. I don’t like rich people who live like poor people, just hiding money in banks. GBM is like the American Donald Trump, he declares 5 times riches than he is worthy.
I think HH is more richer than GBM, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Chikwanda was richer that GBM, but when it comes to EGO….. hahahaha GBM is the number 1.

    • What simplicity is Lungu displaying? People, please be more assertive…Is holding on to the Minister of Defense when one is president a show of simplicity? no! Is shows a power hungry individual. Does send the police to search a house of the leader of the largest opposition a display of simplicity? No!

    • @Nostradamus, money isn’t everything in politics. With this kind of mentality, no wonder you people who worship money have successfully managed to make one HH feel that he owns UNPND. Now he even thinks and acts like he is the ALPHA and the OMEGA, the BEGINNING and the END, without him UPND is NOTHING—although we all know HH is just a carning political opportunist who has personalized the party so much that it is unrecognizable from the days of Mazoka.

At least folks in PF don’t give a FC@K how rich you are, you better “get on the party bus like everybody else and obey the rules!” Otherwise you can take your riches and stick them up your “you what!” Try some of this “medicine” on your “little gods” with money in UPND, the party might get somewhere for a change.

  3. This attitude is retrogressive. One can see that GBM is arrogant. Money is not everything. Yes money helps but it shouldn’t be the be all and end all. Respect others in the way you speak and they will respect you. Anyway at least he doesn’t use insults like Gary Nkombo.

    • Whatever is said about GBM, Mutati, Nalumango and other patriotic Zambians from the Northern part of Zambia, I still salute them for defying the notion that Bembas do not support parties led by non-Bembas.

You helped unite Zambia ladies and gentlemen. Support merit where you see it.

You decided to support a candidate you were comfortable with. I would have done the same mwandi, given the confusion which your parties, MMD and PF were going through. Never mind the loss. What matters is doing things on principle. OOhh, by the way, Luampa MP, Mr Liambayi is so quiet!!! Luampa wanted a very quiet MP, eh?

    • @Yayamba you have a small brain, without money you can not run an Oposition political party.Sata would have not won in 2011 had it been for GBM hired choppers and money. When you are ruling party then you can brag money is nothing just because you can mis use Govermnent resources. So you ka yambayamba don’t lecture us ,as if you telling folk stories to your grade one son.

  4. GBM, money money is heavier than tu PF, kulatupapatila fye. 5 letters… how many emails, phone calls. The press puller!! GBM…. “Kanshi nshaiseko baphykala”. Where is the destitute Chama in this case, can that Chama really even have balls to ask Ba GBM a question?
    Inshimbi nshimbi, tukafwafye ku manga!!

    • @nostr’ at least we know we’re your HH got the money yes Chiluba’s connection in privatisation now Gmb where? The wife is a mwenso and we all know what the name stood for,,, after cleaning it at least he should have some manners to keep quiet and concentrate on the rules of the club like HH..

    • @4.1 Chinyama,
I am sure for someone who sounds as intelligent as you are, you must surely know and understand the exponential growth of Cattle over a period of time if you manage it well, i.e. y = x2. What I do not understand is why you insist on defaming HH for using his skill in cattle which he acquired as a boy. Maybe if you could explain.

  5. Ba GBM naimwe tamwakula nanomba kanshi?? Pakafye palile ing’oma sure?

Even us poor people are happy and do enjoy life. Boasting bashi Chama ekufwa. I remember those days ngabakupa ubunga ichipanda chonse kwishiba ati “ulya mweshi nshashitishe iyo nslefoleshafye ubungu, bashi Ngosa nabapele bubili..” Ninshi apo ba GBM tabalefwaya ukulipila inkongole!

  6. What surprises me is that ba gbm had to cling to the last straw of pf to stay in the party. If really the expulsion does not affect him why drag the party to court to contest his expulsion. ba gbm u are affected your actions show. I think what pains him the most is that he has been completely ignored by ECL. If only ECL ignored the under five in a similar manner, he would have been respected more

  7. The intention of Lusaka Times is just to embarrass GBM. That’s what Zambian reporters are good at. Zambia needs capable and fair journalists not these evil reporters who cannot analyze anything!

    • what this obese rich clown should have been saying instead is that he shall still continue serving the people despite the fall out from PF. Leadership in Africa is a serious let down.

  8. “There is no dual membership, you cannot belong to UPND and belong to PF at the same time.its immoral” says Ngulube.indeed this is hypocrisy of its highest level shown by PF.among the 60 MPs who endorsed Edgar at govt complex last year were 3 from UPND and 4 from MMD.the only party which MUST cry foul here is MMD,not PF and UPND.to save money just let them serve upto 2016 but don’t re-adopt them.Under PF we have had the largest number of by-elections world history and one would think Zambia is at war.

  9. Ignore pf, it is already a dead party. Every one knows pf won the last election through cheating. Maintain the HH team, it is the best.

  10. “I still have money. If I’m expelled from the pf, I’ll still be rich and enjoy my life like before.” This is a cry of desperation rather than bravery. My question is, “Did he join politics in order to aquire more money or to serve the people?” Such politicians shouldn’t be intertained.

    • @Chalieman..

Stretch your mind a bit. What GBM is saying is that he will survive without Government business contracts and Government job. He is merely saying he is self-made and PF found him already well-off. There is no boasting here. The man is simply telling the PF leadership that he will survive without the party support. It is common knowledge that many of our politicians are parasitic like ticks.

    • You will die before the person you are insulting. You think you are not going to die we nda yamuli bamba iwe.

  11. I sympathise with most people in Zambia because many don’t know or have never really seen what wealth is. Where I live, GBM is just a middle class man. Remember GBM shines amongst the populace poor of Zambia. In other societies, he can just be looked at as another overblown fat pumpkin.

  12. How many by – elections are we going to have? Masebo, GBM and three others from upnd expelled. Chawama, maisati, senga hills and maybe some still coming. This is insane, a country in serious economical problems to waste tax payers money like this. Countries which are doing well economically do not even have by – elections like Zambia. It does not matter whether you are pf , upnd or what, when things are wrong we have to mention it. Our constitution should be changed concerning by – elections.

  13. Democracy thrives in an atmosphere of tolerance and liberalism. The right to dissent is guaranteed in a democracy. Democracy is driven by consensus-seeking behavior. What transpired over the last couple of months revealed great potential for consolidating democracy in the country. Over the last couple of months, a certain number of individuals challenged orthodox ideas about democracy. Some prominent members of society openly supported different political parties instead of rallying behind their party leaders. In these circumstances, various options were open for the development of democracy. The first option was Insaka or Indaba where everyone came together for a debating contest. The second option was Truth and Renconciliation where all members conducted self criticism.

  14. By the end of their 5 years, PF will have been the most desperate party to have been in govt going by the number of bye-elections, which represents a whole circle – councilors, MPs and presidency!

  15. @ni ne! I can’t compare Edgar to my Dad in terms of everything! My Dad is an accomplished professor at Bristol University and very clean living man! If you are existing because of Edgar continue LICKING his ASS!

  16. # 19 Kalobwe, so you father, a professor brought you up and taught you to use such derogatory language as you did in post # 12. Tell your father he did a bad job on you. I would not wish your father death, but a long healthy life.

    • @ni ne! Sorry for my bad language, sometimes I tend overreact over the happening in my beloved country of birth. Will be cautious with my language next time. Good day bro.

    • @Chishiba hold on boy, change you respectable names before you start ukulinganya amapuli. Some names are so naturally honorable.

  17. Am worried about the happenings in our country.
Some MMD MPs supported PF and some supported UPND, now the question is; if all MPs who did not support their respective parties are expelled from their parties, how many by-elections are we going to have in Zambia before 2016?
    Leadership is about being tolerant.
Lets deal with kwacha, unemployment, healthy, education and the high cost of living which we’re currently experiencing. Stop wasting time politicking ba PF please. You can unite for the sake of our people and for Christ sake.

  18. By June 2015 , we will remain with 13 months to hold the sept 2016 elections. Effectively 10 months if we remove 3 months of elections. We still have not yet agreed on the constitution road map. The economy still overheating, projects have stalled. These expulsions will have serious financial implications that will have toll on the govt of the day. these sway the govt attention to none critical issues and the govt will judged harshing for non delivery of promised project etc. the opposition will use all these opportunities to punch more holes in the governance of the ruling by pinpointing the non delivered promises and rendering the ruling party as a real Donchi kubeba lairs.

Pf should invest in consolidating the party and should consider appointing new SG.

  19. Money is not everything. To be humble is a sign of wisdom. Never become big headed because of richness! In Bemba we say ” Icuma ma samba ya calo”. You can be rich today tomorrow you will never know what comes in your midst! Remember the story of the Rich Fool in the Bible. God has our life in his hands so for whatever we have never be too proud of them. The people that we are looking down on are the same people who will take care of us when we are no more. Life in this world is not something that one can boast about sometimes it is like wind which can change direction at any time.

  20. But why has he appealed to the High Court against his expulsion. Even if he is rich does he feed each one of us? Being part of the Mwenso family I wouldnt be surprised if this is money from drugs.

  21. # 20.1 @ Kalobwe..good job, at least your dad taught you to apologize when you falter. Its okay to be passionate about your country, however sticking to the issues at hand is more progressive than name calling or wishing peoples fathers dead. Apologies accepted. Wish you and your family well.

  22. The problem here is that our party PF is changing goal posts. How many MMD members campaigned for PF and still not expelled? Be realistic not “Chiwamila Galu………” If the issues affects other people because of you, there is nothing wrong but the opposite for you looks like a challenge. Are you suggesting that Kaingu and Vincent Mwale MUST be expelled from the MMD because they campained for you?Be fair people!!!!

    • Mmd have expelled those who campaigned for HH and so have Upnd expelled those who have accepted the ministerial jobs from of. Kaingus appointment was agreed on by both parties

  23. GBM is a sure-footed man,he can not be shaken by these conflict-political issues like this one!!!
and am very sure that people ofkasama are proud of GBM its not pf they need but GBM personally!!!
Pf is incresing the chances of loosing the 2016 tripartite elections
Vivaaaaaaaaa HH with masebo ang GBM undoubtedly with youuuuuuu
Lungu will realise that pride comes before a fall and that you dont have to count you chickens before they are hatched!!!
Lungu explicated tp us during his campagins that he had no vision for zambia at all but deaf pf minions turned deaf ears.happily we the other zambians propounded the state of affairs and refused to be hoodwinked .
shame on lungu and his head

  24. Ba GBM mafi fye and can never be a political heavy weight. Too much pride invested in riches. What a fooolish fat man, good riddance and hopefully he can concentrate on his riches and losing some weight!

  25. GBM is very arrogant to say the least. thats why school is very important even if you dont intend to work for anyone. It teaches you some manners. money without wisdom is foolishness.

  26. @Ni Ne, and @Kalobwe, that is a discourse I always like reading and witnessing on blogs. Where divergence and convergence are amicably observed. Great stuff, guys.
Now, GBM is the stuff that makes good reading a few years hence; resorting to matters of a pecuniary nature each time you are rattled or called out is, to me, a pathetic sign. We tend to give the correct answer to the wrong question most of the time when we lose objectivity. Why don’t these so-called “rich” people invest in good Personal Management outfits? Image builders are not just for elections. Drop that injunction and continue enjoying your money; it is a free country.

  27. TULEKENI NAIFWEBENE TUKABA NGA IMWE, BUT TATWAKALAYUMFWA, LIMBI MWAKWATA FYE AKA BOKOS KA NDALAMA, ABANONKA TABALANDA- AND WHAT IS RICHES WITHOUT POWER, BRAINS AND AUTHORITY- FIND OUT FROM KING SOLOMON. ‘A CHASING AFTER THE WIND’!!!!!!

  28. Excuse me, let me digrace. Where is Katondo Boys? (Emmanuel Mwamba). We were informed he refused as ambassador to Malasya and forced Lungu to appoint him as ambassador to South Africa. South Africa rejected him because he is unsuitable, ex convict in S.A., money launderer etc. Where is he? ali kwi, mambala uyu. Shameful model of people in PF party and its government.

  29. From the look of things Zambians are allergic to rich people with brains, so i am not surprised by this, That is why people voted for EL because they think you can just wake up one day and miraculous find yourself rich or president.
People who get things they did not work hard for tend to misuse them or do not appreciate the true value of such wealth.
That is why EL is behaving like this because he did not work hard enough neither did he spend sleepless night to build PF, He does not know its true value. So watch this space EL will destroy PF because it was give to him on a plater and he is not bothered. The most valued things in life are the ones that are to find or very hard to build.

    • Ba @ Aquilla
EL is not destroying PF but solidifying it. It is cleansing process. Bad apples are being removed.
If UPND is unable to do what PF is doing, it is not EL’s problem but HH
So do not waste your time on wild talk. It will not do.
HH lost the last but rare opportunity to get to plot 1. This will haunt him for the rest of his life. Come 2016 EL will be a refined brand and HH will will be no match. Mark my words m****

  30. its in order for pf to expel their members of parliament for campaigning for hh. if so correct. why is it wrong for upnd to do the same for those who campaigned for edger chakolwa . these actions shouldnt have been excuted cos its warste of money and time to work especially for pf.

  31. Those are the very traits that do not endear Mwamba to the voters of Kasama Central, an electoral failure for him in that constituency (in case he makes a mistake and contests in a by election) is a foregone conclusion.

  32. Actually gbm and his utterances just confirms the type and calibre of people who are in upnd. Boastful, pompous, chicky, vengeful, pride, etc no wonder they are so hard to be accepted by the general zambian population.

    • What has the poor people`s party PF done for the poor so far, the rich are getting richer and the poor even poorer, so if you think some one who is poor can create wealth for Zambia keep on dreaming. If you are rich in Zambia people think you are a Satanist, thief etc. We do not celebrate success in Zambia that is why when a rich man says i am rich all you think of is, he is showing off. If riches where easy to come by all of us will be rich. making money and sustaining it takes a lot of brains, so let us give praise where its due

  33. Money is every thing that is why your drunkard president sneaked out in the middle of the night to go and beg for money from Boko Haram.

  34. This is not surprising. After the death of Sata the PF has slowlybecome a collection of failed degenerates. Most of the people left in PF have no traceable success in thier lives. If anyone disagrees I challenge them to name any PF official and thier success in either business or career. Who? Which one? As the old adage goes. “Mediocrity creates it’s own comfort zone!”

  35. “There are many rich people, but very few wealthy people” Unknown.

GBM is a good example of a rich person. All money and no courtesy.

A wealthy person has BOTH money and courtesy.

Question is: – why is he so confrontational and antagonistic and a wife beater? Could it be he was bullied as a child due to his size and it is now payback time? Could it be he has a low self esteem?

Whatever it is, it will destroy him.

  36. I am not as rich as you ba GBM, but I am a very happy and healthy fellow! So what is the big deal about being rich ba GBM? I have a sneaky feeling you are not a very happy human being despite your riches – which probably explains your frequent emotional outbursts, often occasioned by the savage beating of your wife, Chama. You can be a very rich person ba GBM, but you can never ever buy happiness!

  37. I know a lot of very rich Zambians who are very quiet and don’t flaunt their wealth the way GBM does. Among these are the following:

    Lawrence Sikutwa
    George Sokota
    Caleb Mulenga
    Costain Chilala
    Mark O’Donnell
    The Miller family
    The Irwin family
    Andrew Sardanis
    Mulenga Mikalile
    Jacob Sikazwe

    Valentine Chitalu

  38. #31 @Kalok… Thanks ma brother. Civility is the tough work of staying present even with those with whom we have deep-rooted and ferocious disagreements. However, we must disagree to agree to resolve these conflicts. Thanks for your observation.

  39. Everytime anything goes against GBM i hear this line, “I am rich”.
yes you are rich but I think it us time you grew up and stop singing the am rich song.

  40. Why do the so called rich people in Zambia want to be in politics? GBM, HH, Miles Sample boast about their riches and that is why they need to be in politics. For some supporters, these so called rich people just want to help develop Zambia. How? No one individual will use their riches to develop Zambia. Zambia will be developed by taxes paid by the poor people.

These so called rich people can develop Zambia without being in politics. Their companies, if they pay their workers above the non taxable threshold. The more they employ the more taxes. Let them aspire for politics not because they are rich by because they have some brains to offer.

  41. It’s funny GBM is being accused of being lawless. Was there lawful in the way Lungu ascended to PF presidency?

  42. why contradicting yourself sir? you are not a job seeker, you don’t care yet you are restraining your expulsion in Courts??? its because you are a job seeker and you care and that it will have an impact on your life including finances that you would go to court to restrain them from expelling you… the easiest way to prove that you don’t care and that you are not a job seeker was simply to resign from the party… have lessons with your lawyers to straighten your logic… what a contradiction!

  43. Among the blind, the one eyed man boast to be a king! Keep what you have to yourself because even people in shanty compounds survive without depending on your riches! A wise man will never boast about what he/she has only other people will tell! GBM it is time wasting and in the process people will not like. Behave as if you do not have anything.

  44. Okay Chigili GBM is Rich. so what? who is benefiting from his riches? Himself and his close allies. Not even his workers from his many companies are enjoying his riches coz he pays them peanuts. GBM cn Hang for all I care. The guy is just bitter. Why is he still fighting against his expulsion? if he thinks he is a material on his own, let him form a party or at least stand in Kasama on another party’s ticket. And do we really need such stupid rich people? GBM you are just too full of your self you can see beyond your oversized belly. too stupid to think you can buy every one with your money. to hell!!!!
