Foxcatcher

FOXCATCHER is a psychological drama directed by Academy Award nominee Bennett Miller  and starring Golden Globe winner Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Academy Award nominee Mark Ruffalo . It tells the story of Olympic Gold Medal-winning wrestler Mark Schultz (Tatum), who sees a way out from the shadow of his more celebrated wrestling brother Dave(Ruffalo) and a life of poverty when he is summoned by eccentric multi-millionaire John du Pont (Carell) to move onto his estate and train for the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

PROS

  • Excellent acting by Steve Carell , he is mostly know for his comedies so it was it surprising how good he was in a serious role .
  • It had a good original storyline .

CONS

  • The pace of the movie is too slow , it takes time for the story to get going.

FAVOURITE QUOTES

John du Pont: Mark, we as a nation have failed to honor you.  I want to see this country soar again.

Mark Schultz: I just don’t wanna let you down.

Dave Schultz: What does he get out of all this ?

CONCLUSION

Foxcatcher is a gripping story of fragile men who pinned their hopes for love and redemption on a desperate obsession for greatness that was to end in tragedy.  Steve Carell did an amazing  job as billionaire John du Pont . The uneasy relationship he had with the Schultz brother was captured very well . Jealousy , betrayal , paranoia , inferiority complex ; are some of the main themes of their relationship .

This is a slow paced movie that derives drama from silent moments. In many key scenes, it’s the words that aren’t said that speak volumes.

Steve Carell was nominated for Best Actor at the 2015 Academy Awards
