A civil servant in Chavuma district in North-western Province is feared dead after he drowned in the Zambezi River yesterday.

The victim who was an Assistant Forestry Officer is alleged to have been drunk at the time he went to swim in the Zambezi but drowned around 16:00 hours.

May Zambia deal and control the dangerous levels of alcoholism that has extended to teenagers and women.

    • Time is going really first , still haven’t done anything . Even stealing votes this thine won’t even work , we are watching what you doing . K8.000 to $1 . Fix the economy

  1. he can’t be feared dead after he drowned. drowned means he is dead. May be the sentence should have read ” … feared dead after he disappeared under water”

  2. This one is a teacher, those of you that read everything like me you will recall the head man’s concern in monze where he said and I quote “most of teaching staff spent more time traveling to monze town doing their businesses at the expense of children’s learning”. End of quote. So this Quack went to town to and got drunk and when coming back………..
Too bad anyways, death is death whether or not you invite it.

  3. Why didn’t the eye witness dive into the river to save him? Why should it take days to try and save a fellow human being?

  4. Swimming should be compulsory in our education curriculum. Especially in rural areas where rivers n lakes are part of everyday life. Teach the kids to swim in the river or a lake. I have a friend from an island, and they cant go to high school unless they pass a swimming test. Swimming wont necessarily save your life if your boat capsizes, or if you are swimming drunk. But at the very least it can increase your chances of survival, and perhaps panic wont kick in.

  5. Intoxication and water do not mix. Even by the pool side at a hotel while consuming alcohol should never be tolerated. I have seen families with little children who have almost drown because parents are busy drinking. Because of good Samaritans is the only reason those children survived. There should be a law just like they need to impose no drinking and driving and follow it religiously. Set up road blocks late at night and monitor people. If caught suspend their licence for six months and let them spend two days in jail. If caught driving impound the car for two months and have them pay fees for the duration they have been impounded. Not only will lives be saved but maybe these people will be a bit more careful. That money can be used towards economic development.
