Dear 2015 AGM FAZ Councillors

Share

The Football Association Of Zambia family meets on Saturday in Kabwe to decide whether to keep the status quo or move forward into the dark ages.

At the centre of Saturday’s annual general meeting is the controversial proposal to change a candidate’s eligibility to stand for the FAZ presidency.

Afrisports and Nchanga Rangers have tabled a motion stating that anyone aspiring to be FAZ president should have served in any position as an executive committee member to be eligible.

As if that wasn’t sour enough, a nomination fee too has also been proposed with those eyeing the presidency paying K25,000 while those seeking the vice-president position should pay K20,000.

Furthermore, a nomination fee of K15,000 and K10,000 should also be paid by those eyeing the treasurer and committee member positions respectively.

This strong desire to turn FAZ into a politburo is very disturbing.

Not even at under-fire FIFA would such an absurd autocratic idea be entertained.

Are Messrs Afrsports and Nchanga Rangers telling us that they are no eligible people amongst FAZ councillors competent enough to even draw business plans to attract sponsors for our game?

Are we in such a dire leadership crisis in football that we are willing butcher democracy and happily celebrate and dance around the overpowering whiff of its dying corpse?

They are many more dynamic prospect’s in the game like Andrew Kamanga, for whom the rule is allegedly meant to bar from the 2016 presidency, and who initially won and run the Airtel Rising Stars franchise in 2011 before it was wrestled away from him.

Zesco United’s long-serving committee member and now club CEO Justin Mumba’s credentials also make him another potential candidate.

He has been part of Zesco’s milestones since they arrived on the scene in 2004 , from their 2010 continental success, a US$15,000 a season bank endorsement three-year deal plus the clubs’ savvy marketing strategies have earned them a footprint on the profile of African football.

The onus is also on the councilors from the long-suffering lower leagues who don’t even have a cup competition to look forward to every season to think very hard about what Nchanga and Afrisports are trying to sell them into.

One day of being lavished with food and drink at an AGM and benefitting impromptu gifts of football’s is not one’s very honest idea of benefitting from the big fat FAZ cake.

Remember these people exist in office because of you and a yes vote this weekend will hand then frightening autocratic privileges.

So ba FAZ councillor, vote wisely on Saturday.

  1. Pliz ,what is needed is ‘just,to change the current FAZ executive, i thnk they ar nt helping us in the football fratenity of the nation. I mean under 17, under 20, under 23 and also at the national team level.

  2. Why is the author scared to mention the chief architect of this proposal? We know it’s Kalusha who is using these guys. Kalu doesn’t want to give up the FAZ Presidency. He wants to rule for life like his mentors Hayatou and Blatter.

  3. As long as kalusha continues to be faz president, zambian soccer standards will also continue going down coz the guy is corrupt and greedy.

You have to bribe him for you to feature in international games, what a shame.

  4. Can those in the know please enlighten me.Why is Kalu so desperate for cash?Didnt he stash enough away when he was a professional? If he is as broke as his actions suggests how does he manange to leave in South Africa? Is he leaving off his white wife like Koswe From ZR.Is it true that he still stays in Pamodzi Hotel when he “visits”Zambia? Is it true that his young brother is assistant coach to one of the national sides?Did he manage to get back his woodlands house which he had pleaged as security.

    • Which Zambian professional ever stashed enough during their playing days? They are all broke except Kalusha and Charles Musonda. FAZ must start an academy where they prepare Zambian footballers for the dizzy heights of stardom so as to avoid the low ground of suffering

  5. Mediocrity as usual ba Zambia ya!!! It will be more difficult to be president of FAZ than president of Zambia.

  6. Good article, but the damage has already been made. Information filtering in indicates that voting will be by secret ballot as usual. This will make it easier for FAZ to manipulate things for their personal gains. Football in Zambia has really gone to the dogs! These two clubs are direct beneficiaries of the Kalu nonsense and now they have resorted to telling us that it is only a proposal which may be accepted or not.. we know this nonsense and we are not surprised!

  7. The ‘loathed’ simataa simataa asked a question this morning “if your CEO lost your company ZMW 3 million, would you still maintain him”?
    My answer “only in Zambia”.

  8. There is no one better than Kalusha in Zambia. The rest are either broke, jobless or driven by envy of the king of soccer the great Kalu. Just find jobs you little rats and get your lives busy instead of disturbing the soccer legend.

  9. Some people at football house have very corrupt fingers…pliz councillors…remove the current executive no matter What it takes…their time is up and need fresh brains to steer the wishes of the football family…

  10. The problem lies in those that want to hold on to Kalusha the great player that was as the ultimate to Zambian football but many a zealot will chastise me labeling him a failed inspiration to Zambian soccer! Many FAZ volunteering presidents (Mtine, Phiri) before him were administrators of repute despite having no soccer field accolades! Let councillors open their eyes and note that there are others who given the chance can deliver.

  11. …..whatever qualifications adopted should include and emphasize that any member of FAZ committee MUST be a resident in Zambia…..

  12. Do we need sports council or it is snother ERB? ZAA and mponda and noe it is FAZ and kalu. what has hapened to vincent mwsle kanshi? pliz kalu your yimr has come psck and go. FIFA prepare your files becoz it is beta to barn uss than continue with kalu

  13. What Zambian Soccer needs is MTN Premier Soccer League to be run by an independent technocratic body with its own CEO, and not FAZ. SAFA is different from PSL, England’s FA is diferent from EPL….this is what our soccer needs. With its own MTN PSL, our league will become commercialized, and seek to adress the issues affecting the league….while FAZ will be the figurehead in charge of all Leagues.

  14. Things are not supposed to be done just because others are doing them. You need to apply what works for others to your specific needs
