Zambia hope to end winless draught

Share

Zambia go in search of their first victory in 2015 when they host Rwanda in a friendly at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Sunday.

Honour Janza’s side will also play their first match since the 2015 Africa Cup in Equatorial Guinea where they exited with two draws.

Zambia has so far picked up just two draws and as many defeats from four games since the start of the year.

“It will be a tough game but we have to win and there will be no excuse for losing,” Janza said.

Janza will have seven players from Zambia’s Africa Cup outing with the major absentee being goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene.

The Zambia number one who has been warming the bench at defending South African league champions Mamelodi Sundowns was not selected for this friendly.

The only player from the South African PSL in the team will be striker Bornwell Mwape of Amazulu who will be making his return for the first time since the 2013 CECAFA Cup in Kenya where Zambia finished third.

Mwape will be one of four foreign-based players in the team alongside captain and midfielder Rainford Kalaba plus his TP Mazembe clubmates defender Kabaso Chongo and striker Given Singuluma.

The match will also be the eighth time the two sides will meet with Zambia dominating their guests ince losing 2-0 in their debut match in 2001 in the semifinal of the COMESA cup in Lusaka.

Zambia had recorded four wins and two draws and one defeat since them.
