Senior Chief Bright Nalubamba of the Tonga people of Namwala District in Southern Province has expressed disappointment at the lack of dialogue among politicians in the country.

But opposition Forum for Democracy and Development, FDD President Edith Nawakwi says there can only be dialogue if the stronger person is willing to sit down with those perceived to be weak.

Speaking when the opposition FDD leader whose is in Mbeza, Namwala to mobilize the party paid a courtesy call on him, His Royal Highness said it was disheartening to see political leaders failing to sit down and discuss notional issues.

He said there is need for political opponents to put aside there political difference and put the interest of the people ahead of one’s ambitions so as to help the government of the day find solutions to the challenges affecting the masses in the country.

“I don’t like this failure to dialogue with each other, you consider politics as a prerogative to hurt each other you mustn’t hurt each other whether you win or lose.

Another thing is even the losers are your friends otherwise if you win totally all the provincial votes throughout the country goes to one man then it becomes a dictatorship. We are in a multiparty system of fighting for them. That is why in civilized world the don’t hate each other they shake hands and concede defeat and go back to the business of providing checks and balances to the government.

But I don’t think our friends Zambians especially see it that way and I hope that when one day you are elected as president of this republic you can ensure that the opposition is given room to provide good checks and balances,”  said his Royal Highness.

But opposition FDD president Edith Nawakwi says people in office should extend an olive branch to the opposition if dialogue is to exist.

She noted that the winer must be able to reach out to the losers because the losers after suffering defeat are of weaker strength than the victor something she observed was not the case when republican president Edgar Lungu emerged victorious as he did not invite the opposition to his inauguration.

“Your Royal Highness you raise a very important issue about dialogue, I think as you rightly point out dialogue starts with the strong person in the team, the strong person who is a winer must be able to reach out to the losers coz the losers at the point that they have lost they are of weaker strength.

In as much as I was thinking that the current crop leadership is of our generation I find myself retreating from that thought because they are not able to reach out. It started from the inauguration, they put out an advert that the president will be sewn in at 8hrs and its by invitation but non of us received any invitation and therefore we couldn’t be seen to be united  in a most important occasion in our political calendar, we were not invited maybe my colleagues were but I personally did not receive an  invitation although I was quite keen to show support for the new leadership because the people had spoken,” she explained.

The opposition leader noted the needed for the ruling party and the president in particular to reach out to the opposition and regions that did not vote for him and make them feel part of the governance system of the country.

“We all need to feel as a nation that we are part and parcel of governance whether in opposition or any other different spheres of life, we all need to feel wanted and included and its up to the president to reach out,” she said.

Meanwhile, the opposition leader has called on party members in the district to organize the party and ensure that the party is ready for the general elections in 2016.

She said the purpose of dissolving structures countrywide was to ensure that people committed to the party took up positions in the party which in turn while help party emerge stronger and ready for battle in 2016.

  1. How does one dialogue with a government that insults the very people it is meant represent?Case in point KAINGU adressing a member of parliament the way he did. If Lungu has true respect for all Zambians especially women he has to address this issue. How would he have reacted if someone refered to madam WINA with such disrespect? We have our political difdifferences and in a democracy that is expected but the way this government treats women is appalling. KAINGU MUST GO.

    • I like this chief , he has always been objective unlike chi chief/thief Mukuni ,just because he was a proxy in the privatisation matrix does not mean he must lick HH whatever all the time

    • In the first place Mama Wina cannot be referred to as a pro.. due to several reasons. The question we must all answer and very honestly is the following:
Was Kaingu completely out of order when he refereed to the said MP as Dorika?
We must then ask another question:
What is it that Kaingu knows about the MP he referred to as Dorika Ndaifulila which qualify her to be assigned such a salutation?
Is this the same MP who was said to have been impregnanted by the Chitambo MP a married man?
      If this is true, was…..

    • Again thank you Lusaka Times for covering such an important meeting and the dialogue that took place between FDD President and the Chief. If PF leader of whatever rank had a similar meeting, the State-owned media, ZNBC, Times of Zambia and Daily Mail would have covered and published it. Leave HH alone. He has also been visiting the people and their traditional leaders and only online media has covered him.

  2. It is good that his royal highness have indirectly castigated Nawakwi in her face. She one who have shown so much hate torwards the president lately. Am sure she was looking for favours. Last time she was condemning the President’s visit to China but when the late MCS invited her to Brazil she didn’t decline the offer! Hypocritical indeed!

    • I am with you @3 Kabulo-Muleya, whilst we all wish for a more united Zambia built on peace and dialogue, how does Nawakwi expect the President she derides day in day out to reach out to her as a sign of showing unity? The other days she said the “kwacha was as sick as the President!” Is that a message of unity and dialogue? For starters, let her recognised that EL is the President and thus deserves respect. She and other opposition leaders can even initiate dialogue and request the head of state to meet them on a number of issues. Then we can see like the wise chief is saying that they are competing to serve the people on matters of common interest. Not the pettiness of insults and personal innuendos that is going on.

  3. @advisor Nkombo is not a minister! His appointing authority are the voters of his constituency they will deal with him when the time comes. Besides back bench parliamentary speech is protected even when it is uncivil. Lastly at his earliest opportunity Nkombo apolgized and was repremanded by the speaker. CONVERSELY KAINGU PICKED ON A WOMAN AND INSULTED HER BY CHARACTER AND DIGNITY. HE SUGGESTED THAT HER CHARACTER IS UNWORTHY OF BEING IN PARLIAMENT BY CALLING HER WHAT HE DID JUST BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN. CALL ME ANY NAME THAT YOU CHOOSE BUT DON’T INSULT MY CHARACTER. BIG DIFFERENCE!

    • BA ZAMBIA LISTEN,
STATING THE TRUE DESCRIPTION OF A PERSON IS NOT AN INSULT. KAINGU DID NOT INSUKT ANYBODY. THE LADY IN QUESTION KNOWS WHY KAINGU CALLED HER DORIKA. LET HER SPEAK FOR HERSELF. IFWE TATUBAKO UKO BADORIKANA NOKUIFULILA.

  4. His Royal Highness has given words of wisdom to particularly Nawakwi.

Since the inauguration the president has reached out to opposition in appointing Ministers from opposition. We all know the response was expelling those that accepted in a certain party.

Nawakwi needs to widen her political net and stope ‘popping’ out for election rallies. Also, she must try not to insult her opposition colleagues. The trouble she is now proving, is that conduct prevents unity.

    • Point of correction Snr Chief Bright Nalubamba has a name which sounds Namwanga because of the Na prefix. Actually he is not Namwanga, neither is he Tonga. He is Ila. He is Snr Chief Bright Nalubamba of the Ila Speaking People of Namwala District in Southern Province. His Chiefdom is called Mbeza.

  5. Nawakwi, Nawakwi don’t tell lies. Opposition were invited to the inauguration of Edgar Lungu, at least I remember seeing Nervous, Sinkamba, Chanda. The seat for HH was noticeably vacant. So what are you saying madam, or may be you were caught napping by the Chief’s remarks?
    Boza kamukazi aka!

  6. I don’t understand why these politicians think that all Zambians are stupid and gullible! They think everyone can buy their lies! Zambians deserve respect from these people who aspire to lead them not to be treated to lies and language of hatred all the time! Nawakwi started her dirty campaigns against ECL at the counting of ballot papers in the just ended elections much to the annoyance of PF SG! Now she wants to lie to the Chief that it is the President who don’t recognise other political players!

  7. Nawakwi is always insulting Edgar Lungu so how PF talk to her. Right now MMD and PF are working together. I would have agreed with her if at least she was talking even with UPND

  8. Here I read two things. The president seems unreachable and Nawakwi seeking favours. Once the president assumes office, he should serve all whether it is his political strongholds or not. Can Nawakwi prove this is not happening? What evidence does she have? Once in the oppositon, you have the potential to challenge positively what is going wrong. What dialogue do you want? A post in the govt? Recently you were using the farms and the rainfall shortage to further your political mileage. Now you are using the chief. What primitive tactics? Drop your party and join the govt if you are unsatisfied. For EL, serve all and remember it is not a “winner- take-all” situation. Accept criticism and rectify where necessary. That is the only way to go. GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  9. Zambia a state in limbo. Wha it is is that whoever is not with you according to Zambian politics is a declared enemy. This is what your so called forefathers have taught us. This comes all the way from Kenneth Kaunda’s time. KK followews those who opposed him in their homes and did whatever he did to them. People like Chiluba were always at risk, at some point he was even poisoned, what does this tell you? The only person who tried to bring civility in politics was late MWANAWASA, he was able at least to mention a colleguea that he gave him a good run. It was very unfortunate that this man left us early, otherwise he was the best man so far. Dont talk about SATA who was full of bitterness with HH when he really challenged him as a yong man. LUNGU can make it, but the people around…
