Dear South Africa

xenophobia

Dear South Africa

This is not Xenophobia, this is Afrophobia.

You bring down statues of hate and yet you build the biggest statue of all. To kill the very people who helped liberate you. You have made this soil a monument of hatred for your brother.

We trained Mandela , we funded and armed uMkhonto we Sizwe.Chief Albert Luthuli was born in what is now Zimbabwe.

The Greek lives safely in this country
The Asian lives safely in this country
The American lives safely in this country
The English
The Dutch
The Jewish
The Indian lives safely in this country

Yet the brother who shares your story, the very sisters who share your bloodline . This is who you burn on the streets, axe and slaughter . You are divided against yourselves and that has always been the bedrock of failure. The brothers and sisters who bled by your side, the blood that helped liberate this great nation . You thank their seeds with fire and unforgiving blades.

RHODES HAS NOT FALLEN

UCT-Cecil-Rhodes

The greatest achievement of the colonial project was to divide and conquer. To create hatred where non existed. To draw false borders of division . That is how Rhodes grew the British empire in Africa. Through planting seeds of hate.

So you took his statue down , and three days later began to murder your own brothers. Who is the fool! For Rhodes lives in you. The seeds he planted are bearing fruit in your lives. Rhodes does not turn in his grave ,he is smiling jubilantly, to see the seeds of hate he planted sprout.

Mzilikazi fled from Shaka, settled in Bulawayo and two hundred years later, the very same bloodline class him foreigner and says he must return home. Isizulu and Isindebele are the same language , isiXhosa is a very close relative. These are massive signs of a bond that unites.

Umfecane never ended.

Colonialism never died, it flows in our blood. When kings call for the killing of cousins , RHODES HAS NOT FALLEN.

WE ARE RHODES

  1. Splendidly summed up brother Jamie,
Good preaching and to the point. I call this

    “excellent poem”

“The black South African is a cursed race”

    • South Africa is the place you want to avoid, South Africa is in a mess, people have high walls around their houses you can not walk the street.
Chief SOMABHULANA said in 1900 to Rhodes that, you came you conquered. The strongest takes the land accepted your rule, we lived under you but not as dogs. If we are to be dogs its is better to be dead.
You can never make the AMANDEBELE dogs. You may wipe them out………, but the children of the stars can never be dogs.

    • Now the violence has reached Johannesburg. The city centre’ s Big bus station called Noord has groups of Zulu with knobkerries on one side and foreigners mostly Nigerians on one side no police yet

    • Black South Africans are about the most evil group of people I’ve ever come across. Its a pity apartheid ended those people needed it. A day will come when they will remember this Karma is a B…… We should not be accommodating next time.

    • Iwe Chi Wanzelu, you are the stupid fool who is always spewing hate speech on LT

    • Spot on Wanzelu! The accursed race is always butchering each other for self inflicted failures while others watch in awe!

  2. Nice poem. This reminds me of Dr. Guy Scott’s sentiment about SA’s backwardness. Zambia is now poor because of the sacrifices Zambians made towards SA’s independence struggles from the same people they let live free in SA. How backward!

  3. And this is what black Africans forget always they are always ready to point out tribes and forget that this tribes are purely regions which were created and people started living in those small tribes so that they can easily be controlled because united you stand and so the aim of colonial powers was to divide so that they can rule easily. And today this is what is happening in South Africa can you imagine that enough white people from various parts of the world. . . . and nobody had ever thought of challenging their increasing numbers

  4. Nice article. Too bad the majority of the people who are fuelling afrophobia cannot read and write. The majority of black South Africans are too lazy to go out there look for a job and keep it past one month end. The moment they get paid they disappear only to appear when they broke.

  5. The pictures I saw yesterday of black ‘foreigners’ being torched, whilst tied to a tyre, in some township in Durban on Muvi TV news last evening were horrendous! I haven’t seen such gory images since a friend of mine enticed me into watching a video of boko haram (or Janjaweed, not too sure)slicing a victim’s neck.

This was after other images of a young man who was suspected to be a thief was pummeled to near death, laid on the rail line and had half his feet chopped off by a train. This was in our very own Kuku compound, where residents cheered and jeered as the fella writhed to his death.

    My blood ran cold.

What drives man to such horrid acts of hatred, I dare ask..?

  6. THOSE OF US WHO FOUGHT IN THE WAR TO LIBERATE SOUTHERN AFRICA ARE EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED BY THE BEHAVIOUR EXHIBITED BY SOME SECTIONS OF OUR PEOPLE IN SOUTH AFRICA. WHAT A SHAME!!! TO KILL YOUR OWN BROTHERS IN THAT MANNER!!!!. BROTHERS WHO STOOD WITH YOU TO LIBERATE YOUR COUNTRY AT THE HOUR OF NEED. WHAT A WAY TO SAY THANK YOU.

IT MUST BE UNDERSTOOD AND MADE CLEAR THAT IT IS NOT EVERYONE IN RSA WHO SUPPORTS THIS BARBARIC ATTITUDE AND THE SOUTH AFRICAN GOVERNMENT MUST COME CLEAR ON THIS ONE TO PROTECT THE REST OF OUR PEOPLE.

OTHERWISE AS AKA PUTS IT, THE WORLD MAY BE FORCED TO IMPOSE SANCTIONS ON RSA.

  7. In as much as I demise violence the Moral of this saga is fix your countries. Don’t let let our zambia go to the dogs. There is none place to run to. The whole AU experiment is a utopia

  8. it is sad,the country which was looked up to by African countries as a stage at which we should reach is acting in such a barbaric manner is shocking, sure you burn your friend alive, just because he is from another land, Zambia should by all means never reach such a stage

    • This is what poor leadership lead’s to! When King Zwelitini was making statements ordering all foreigners to go back to their countries, zuma was consepiquesly quiet. Being closely related to the King, the people took the kings incitement as having a blessing from zuma. The same thing happened on the removal of statues’. Zuma made a statement on statues one month too late after most had been vandalized or removed. Corrupt leadership only cares when its existence is at risk.

    • We need to boycott South African business. Let’s take over shop rite and send them back to their apatheidic country

  9. Its a sad thing indeed…I was watching that video on muvi tv in disbelief…its heartbreaking to see such cruelty. Its clear that they are not ready to lay in a bed they made. South Africans are all over africa and what would they do if the rest of us start burning their own alive??helpless children were torched and the crowd just watched…even re-igniting the fire…what has the world come to surely??And the mighty Zuma is quiet..Shame

  10. Well put indeed – revisit Fanon’s “The wretched of the earth” and then, only maybe then, you’ll understand what LIBERATION means. The waves of independence in the “colonies” came right after the brave and legendary extorted input of native soldiers in europe, the far-east and all over afrika. A dehumanised human being is an animal of LOWER instinctive intelligence than a rat or all other animals at that ! The african politician has failed his people, the whole lot of them from Mandela to Nkrumah, KK to Nasser, Kenyatta to Gaddafi – they ALL forgot what it is their people NEED. Cry the beloved country – LET MY PEOPLE GO, cries Afrika. For those yapping about Zambia’s doom being siamesic with liberating RSA etc, forget it: Righteousness has nothing to do with investment !!

  11. DR GUY SCOTT HAS EVER BEEN RIGHT IN HIS SOCIAL LIFE, POLITICAL LIFE, PROFESSIONAL LIFE AND IN-WHATEVER-YOU-THINK-OF-LIFE. THAT’S WHY ALMOST THE WHOLE ZAMBIA LOVES DR GUY SCOTT. I, TOO NEVER CONDEMNED DR GUY SCOTT’S SENTIMENTS ON SOUTH AFRICANS. SOUTH AFRICANS MUST GROW UP AND LEARN TO ACCEPT OTHER NATIONALS ESPECIALLY OF AFRICAN ORIGINS. AFRICANS SACRIFICED FOR SOUTH AFRICA TO BE FREE ESPECIALLY ZAMBIANS WHO WERE EVEN DYING WITH THEM (SOUTH AFRICANS) DURING BOMBINGS IN ZAMBIA. BUT, THE WAY THEY SLAUGHTER OTHER NATIONALS OF AFRICAN ORIGIN BEGGARS BELIEF. FOOLS HAVE ALWAYS CONDEMNED DR GUY SCOTT FOR BEING TRUTHFUL AND FRANK, WITHOUT PAUSING TO THINK OR ASK WHAT HE MEANS BEFORE THEY GO INTO AN OVERDRIVE OF CONDEMNING HIM. IT WAS A SHOCK THEY EVEN STONED ZAMBIAN FOOTBALLERS. WE ACCEPT THEY

  12. OH Lord my sister died in vain….we kept south African at our farm in Lusaka today I can not visit Durban for fear of the same people we kept. KK. Kaunda should personally apologize for the death of my sisters and brothers because he indoctrinated us into loving them.

  13. WE ACCEPT THEY WENT THROUGH A LOT. BUT THAT IN ITSELF SHOULD HAVE BEEN LESSON ENOUGH TO BECOME HUMBLE AND RECEPTIVE. SLAVES WENT THROUGH MORE THAN IT IS DOCUMENTED BY THE SLAVE RIDER HIMSELF. BUT AFRICAN AMERICANS DON’T SLAUGHTER THEIR BROTHERS AND SISTERS FROM AFRICA- NOT EVEN THE SLAVE RIDER HIMSELF. PEOPLE OF THE WORLD MUST LEARN TO LIVE TOGETHER.

  14. The article is to the point. My body has shivers due to the cruelty of my South African brother. How can you torch me with a tyre wrapped around my neck. I might be Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi etc but difference is there between you and me. When you were oppressed I accommodated you, we laughed to gather, we ate to gather but why today.. I was my brothers keeper for you but now you are the brothers killer to me. Oh may God help Africa to come out of its slumber of hate and realise that we are one. May the spirit of Mandela,Kaunda,Nyerere,……Our loving fore Fathers live again in us to give us unity and Love. We are one people called Africans.
    Africa twasebana

  15. …changing from UNIP to MMD to PF to whatever will always mean NOTHING so long as our people remain dehumanised under the yoke of “white men in black skins”, a kind of self-hate reigns from Cape-to-Cairo as Rhodes would put it…want a lesson in progress? Go to South Korea or Malaysia or Singapore, watch this space, Cuba will do a speed-of-light frog-jump on Africa within the next 10 years now that Obama has stopped the decade old US nonsense!! God offers u an HH or Malema – No! the dehumanised hang-on to their Amins, Mobutus,Mugabes, Bashirs, Musevenis, Satas and RBs…Jesus WILL NOT WEEP !! Afrika is back on the Global Slave Auction Jamboree…

    • Charlie thanks a lot my brother. I have previously hammered on the same point right here on LT. As long as BLACK people continue to aspire to become white they will hate blackness. If you will give yourselves European names and wear only European clothes so that you can hide your Africanness you will want to kill fellow blacks. It may not happen now but it will. Self hating black people kill fellow blacks as a way of distancing themselves from the black race.

    • A pity I have to use European language to communicate but perhaps that is the only positive thing about being colonised. or is it? They have colonised my mind and I cant emancipate myself from mental slavery. None but myself can free my mind. None but myself can throw away the inferiority complex. None but myself can realise I have to be proud of my skin colour. None but myself can change the kind of thinking I was taught by the white man. None but myself can avoid the brainwashing of my children by Eurocentric forces. None but myself can civilise myself to respect human life

  16. RSA is a product of Violence but they need to make positive humane strides. Everyone needs to be free in this world, move and interact as they wish within the confines of the Laws.

  17. I think South Africans Supporting this form of voilent attacks are purely foolish and lack any form of wisdom. How many of their neighbouring brothers and sister died for their freedom, how much resources did countries like Zambia contribute to their freedom, how many of their great leaders were educated and trained in Zambia, and How many of the South Africans work and happily live in Zambia and other countries today.

These attacks on natives Africans can only be described as stupid and unjustifiable. Not to mention inhuman and barbaric.

The South African government and the rest of Africa’s leaders should condemn these acts to the maximum, because failure to this will spark chain reactions in other countries and also act as a justification for equally foolish attacks such as those…

  18. I personally lived and provided and limited logistical support to South African freedom fighters in Lusaka in the 1980s. Torching a fellow human being the way those black South Africans are doing can never be supported by any normal person. HOWEVER AFRICANS EG HERE IN ZAMBIA, MUST LEARN TO CORRECT OUR OWN MISTAKES 50 YEARS AFTER INDEPENDENCE OTHER THAN RUSHING TO SOUTH AFRICA. IF GOVT LEADERS ARE ALWAYS RUNNING THERE FOR TREATMENT AND OTHER THINGS, THIS IS THE MORE REASON WHY EVERY other citizen also WANTS TO GO THERE. PLEASE ZAMBIANS DONT ALWAYS COMPLAIN.U like going there. HOW ABOUT DEVELOPING ZAMBIA AND REDUCE ON GOING THERE? THINK HARD IN 2016.

  19. Most South Africans love shedding human blood just like Moslems.
For your own safety if you are a foreigner just leave that country. What fuels their hatred is that foreigners work hard to earn a living whereas most South Africans are lazy and make a living out of crime.

    • @London Eye
Muslim people DO NOT shed blood, that is not what Islam is about, Islam means peace and is a religion of peace, DO NOT confuse terrorist organisations to be what Islam stands for, THESE TERRORIST ORGANISATIONS DO NOT REPRESENT THE ISLAMIC PRINCIPLES OF PEACE AND JUSTICE. Get your facts straight.

To everyone else, NOT all South Africans share the same view; That foreigners should leave, many South Africans condemn the violence, and its not only African foreigners that are being targeted, it is also foreigners from Pakistan, Bangladesh and India. there are South Africans (Indians, colored, blacks and whites) that feel for their African brothers and sisters, SO DON’T GENERALIZE.

GET ALL YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT AND INFORMATION CORRECT!!!!
Do research before you say anything.

  20. I salute you friends and support your views our so called brothers and sisters from RSA. It is sad to see human beings being slaughtered like dogs. I think dogs are slain in a better way than what I saw on TV.Shame on perpetrators of barbarism wherever they are. They are cursed!!! They belong to the devil+++++++.

I also pity my beloved country, Zambia, which seems to be moving towards the same level of barbarism. Please stop!!! We saw something abominable happen in one of our compounds in Lusaka yesterday, a gruesome murder of a thief. How do you kill a fellow human being, even if he is a thief, and throw him to be run by a train?. A christian nation, I doubt!! Shame on you!!!!!!!

  21. As teens in the 70s, I remember how we shared the few school places with our brothers from SA. After school we would even discuss how resources would be freed for the benefit of the rest of Africa once SA, Rhodesia and Angola were freed. It has now come to pass that this wish was based on limited thinking; ours was only a sacrifice and not an investment. I’m sure our leaders were riding on the same delusion. Shame.

  22. What’s really new? Nothing. The descendants of Shaka and his mfecane continue with burning tyres instead of assegais.

  23. If the government of south africa is un able to handle this situation, let all southern african countries put economical sunctions on it by not importing any of their products. They shouldn’t forget that their economy is what it is today because of african market.
its a failed state without security which any country can easly penetrate and kill their sitzens.
To make the situation worse, the SADC chairman who is supposed to air a voice on this sad situation is a very person behind influx of zimbabweens into SA, sad indeed these guys needed apathaid,

  24. GBM was boasting of investing in South Africa and the i called him a rich f00l i hope he has learning something that home is home

  25. It’s in their blood, Shaka’s geneology, that’s why people like the Lozis and Ngonis became Zambian; they ran away from Shaka.

  26. South Africans will stand to lose on this one because most South African companies have invested so much in other African countries hence they should not start a war which they shall live to regret for the rest of their lives. And i hope no Zambian has been affected

    • Zakeyo its not about a Zambian being affected, its about an African being affected, its about a human being being affected. It can be someone from Somali, Tanzania, Nigeria, Asian, etc, by the end of it all that is no way to treat a human being.

  27. It’s not that S Africans are xenophobic but they kind of enjoy such occasions as riots or strikes where shouting is involved, that is, anything which involves raucous behaviour including weddings, funerals, football matches, political rallies etc. They have to be seen toyi-toying for one reason or another. This has not started now. I first went to S Africa in 1971 and was going to be attacked for looking like a foreigner and speaking in English at a Johannesburg market. It has nothing to do with apartheid. They love rioting and such like behaviour – it is their favourite pastime. Foreingers are just collateral damage.

  28. My last sentence should read, “Foreigners are just collateral damage”.
Even before the end of apartheid black S Africans used to fight each other on the mine compounds, in the townships. In Kwazulu they use to kill each other for no apparent reason before apartheid ended. They are basically hostile in nature.

    • There u have it – “…for no apparent reason…”! The REASON is abundantly apparent bambo – “****” having a “dance of the dehumanised”, like in Ruanda, Sierra Leone or wherever. The Bechuana stand out like a glaring beacon of stately africanness with a healthy dose modernity, africa in a modern setting as it were. Free your MINDS people, YOU WILL NEVER RUN AWAY FROM YOUR SELF – you are african and you are black but FOREMOST reinvent yourself mentally – going to Havard don’t make u white, white doctrine CAN make u white if inside you only a void full of self-hate and abuse abounds – the challenge begins in our sikopo, each and everyone of us as africans, especially BLACK tribal africans like Zwelithini & Co!

  29. Lessons learnt:
    1. By sacrificing for your neighbor, you are only sacrificing. You are not investing
    2. All those who by naivety or deception think that life across the borders is rosy should know that there is no honor in being a foreigner

    3. Lets all work hard towards making our country a better living place so that our children will not have to cross borders as economic destitutes.

    Home sweet home

    • …Good, but INTENTIONS don’t build nations, DEEDS do, Afrika, Zambia is Minus-50 years BEHIND schedule; don’t just blog all day – GO OUT AND BEGIN CHANGING YOURSELF, changing Zambia, changing Africa! African diasporans are reduced to unleashing their industriousness in foreign lands because african dictatorial presidents declare them de facto persona non grata, meanwhile the bandits are at large and the dehumanised ululate – its SICK bambo!

  30. Let them touch one Zambian. Then we should act. Starting with the RSA high commission. It doesn’t matter that it’s blacks who are doing this rubbish. Our reaction will target all those carrying RSA passports. Dare touch one of ours and all hell will break loose.

    • I am so sorry for what is happening in SA. I am a white male who grew up in apartheid. But my best mate was black. Sipho teached me how to make a “ketie” (sling shot) and how to set traps for rabits. We went fishing and I stayed in their kraal over weekends. It was like camping. So yes, I know racism and apartheid. But this is none of it. This is hatred towards tribes.

One thing I can tell you, this is not a white man doing this. Its the government leaders like Julius Malema and Robert Mugabe. These are the oppressors of time. These are the so called black “HITLER’S”. The fall of these politicians will unite Africa and dismantle the evil that lurks inside all tribes.

    • As docile as Zambians are who do you want to mislead? I believe its only Nigeria that will shake RSA on this one as they did with the Yellow fever saga! Did Zambia react? Indeed it did by raising the charge for one to be vaccinated against Yellow Fever yet the serious Nigerians sent back a whole plane load of South Africans that had landed in that country!

  31. To pretend that south Africa is not overburdened with a massive immigrants problem is to burry one’s head in the sand. It’s like saying that yes Tony Blair is the cause of Zimbabwe’s problems not mugabe. This immigrants problem was a time bomb that required frank/honest confrontation /management But now it may be too late -like Ebola was allowed to take root in West Africa. We Africans should take responsibility for developing our countries :Zimbabwe,Eritrea, Somalia, DRC etc instead of passing the buck. Yes we helped in their liberation willingly they didn’t force us
Why should we force ourselves on them when they don’t want us? Leave them & hopefully they will leave us alone when Julius Malema wrecks SA.

  32. They are savages. I have always said this!! KK wasted a lot of our resources helping these chaps. Botswana minded it’s own business and they are better off. Just because someone is black does not mean they are your brother. We should have left them in apartheid.
Quest your argument makes sense but do you think that gives them the right to burn another human being? Should we also torch the congolese, Zimbabweans Angolans in our country?

    • Botswana got some help with their civil service logistics from Lusaka for two years. They did not mind their own business; they were just too few to be as barbaric as the South Africans. They also have that streak – what saves the situation is their numbers.

  33. Very pertinent article but I question the journalistic balance in your portrayal of colonialism: “The greatest achievement of the colonial project was to divide and conquer. To create hatred where non existed. To draw false borders of division . That is how Rhodes grew the British empire in Africa. Through planting seeds of hate.”
Really? Yes many things that happened were wrong as we view them in today’s context, but please do not paint colonialism with such broad sweeping negative bias and certainly not defining Rhodes and colonialism as one and the same. And please do not tell me that Africa and all its tribes was a peaceful place prior to Rhodes!

    • Imwe ba Winnie no place was, but the colonialist exploited these differences for his ends in the process deepened them. Attempting to separate Rhodes and colonialism is an unworthy endeavour. Rhodes was greatly helped by the British government and vice versa. For me the native they were one and the same even if I may be from Bechuanaland.

  34. Ignorance and stupidity knows no skin color. Ignorant people everywhere and throughout history find an easy scapegoat when they hit a brick wall. None of these South African attackers can articulate their actions. The only thought in their mind is that foreign Africans are to blame for their miserable lives.

  35. King Zwelithini’s ignorance is scaring. This King thinks there are no South Africans in other AFRICAN countries. Most South Africans think so. Yet I have plenty of South African friends in Lusaka. Some of whom own businesses. When I go to DRC right now I see South Africans who have gone there for business. Does he think countries are islands? yet the Zulus themselves migrated from Angola like most of us bantu into present day South Africa. What does the University of Kwazulu produce?

  36. This is a speech made by former South African President P.W Botha to his cabinet about 27 years ago. It was reprinted by David G Mailu for the Sunday Times, a South African newspaper, in 1995.
I quote…” We are not obliged even the least to try to prove to anybody and to the blacks that we are superior people. We have demonstrated that to the blacks in 1001 ways. The Republic of South Africa that we know of today has not been created by wishful thinking. We have created it at the expenses of intelligence, sweat and blood………We do not pretend like other whites that we like the blacks. The fact that, blacks look like human beings and act like human beings do not necessarily make them sensible human beings. Hedgehogs are not porcupines and lizards are not crocodiles because they look alike…

  37. I just want to tell you that you are spreading false information. Not just Africans are being attacked. Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani people have also being attacked.

    Stop being a professional victim.

  38. Your article is historically correct, yet generally sensational…
Not that we, the majority of South Africans, feel no pain at the sight of the gruesome violence against our fellow Africans in South Africa; we need to put things in to perspective.
The catastrophe can’t be reduced to xenophobia; it is African on African violence! It’s happening in Nigeria, Kenya, Somalia, Egypt, Algeria and now in South Africa.

Xenophobia is an incorrect prognosis that will not arrest this cancer…
This is, without hesitation, a combination of ignorance and stupidity. Africans have allowed it to infest itself amongst ourselves.

We have become ignorant and stupid people. That’s it!

Borrowing from your historical reference about certain sections of people from Zimbabwe, I can assure you that…

  39. “…to create hatred where non [sic] existed”. Check your history. Africa was no utopia before Rhodes! Brothers have always killed brothers! Anything for the throne!

Shaka was succeeded by Dingane, his half brother, who conspired with Mhlangano, another half-brother, and Mbopa, an InDuna, to murder him in 1828. Following this assassination, Dingane murdered Mhlangano, and took over the throne. One of his first royal acts was to execute all of his royal kin. In the years that followed, he also executed many past supporters of Shaka in order to secure his position. One exception to these purges was Mpande, another half-brother, who was considered too weak to be a threat at the time.

  40. Unfortunately most of the South Africans in other African countries are white and they won’t care if they are treated the same way….
