Southern Province Provincial Education Officer Steven Chishiko has directed Kasiya Secretarial and Business College in Pemba district to include in their short courses curriculum the Information and communication Technology (ICT) teacher education methodology component.

Mr Chishiko said colleges in Zambia including Kasiya were faced with a challenge of satisfying the country’s human resource needs adding that the global demand for efficiency and effectiveness in technology use called for continuous training, retraining and upgrading of human resource.

Speaking yesterday during a farewell graduation ceremony for short intensive program students at Kasiya College, Mr Chishiko said considering the quality of students the college was producing since its inception in 1972, his office was convinced that Kasiya was well positioned for the task of training teachers to face the challenge of ICT head-on especially that this year schools would be writing their first examination in ICT.

He said the Patriotic Front-PF administration had rolled out two career pathways for which included ICT courses to be taught from pre-school to tertiary education in order to prepare and empower youths with much needed skills for employment.

He urged the students to value their hard earned training and have the best work culture in their institutions.

And speaking at the same function, Kasiya College Principal White Chisi assured the delegation that his institution would continue to impart the best skills in its students and maintain the tertiary education standards in order to meet the nation’s human resource needs.

And speaking earlier, Pemba District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Mary Sifuniso said she was proud of Kasiya College being in her district because of its grade one standards as most of the its products were absorbed in both private and public sectors.
