China expresses serious concerns about the safety of its nationals

Share

CHINA has written to the Zambian Government expressing serious concerns about the safety of its nationals following the recent killing in Lusaka of a Chinese man whose mother was also seriously injured.

Chinese embassy chief of political section, Fan Manjiang said his government was concerned with the recent attacks on the Chinese, which had resulted in the death of three people this year.

Mr Fan in an interview yesterday cited this week’s attacks on Cheng You, 55, and his 78-year-old mother who were allegedly attacked by a Zambian who broke into their house on Monday morning.

He said the suspect got away with US$5,000, K2 million cash and cell phone after hitting Mr Cheng with a rifle and later attacking his mother who sustained a broken chin.

Mr Cheng and his assailant were both employed at Zambia International Hotel project, which is under construction on Mumbwa Road.

Lusaka Province police chief, Greenwell Ng’uni yesterday said investigations into the killing had continued but the suspect was still on the run.

  1. its bad life was lost….but some of these so called investors are very abusive. ZP please do good job…

  2. Why are you concerned about the safety of your people when you cant improve safety in your industries ? Mwalapwa guys.

  3. China please take your people if you are concerned about their safety, we can sure do without them. You killed a lot of our people at Bilgrim minning in chambishi, we didnt chase you, nomba imwe aka muntu kamo at safety! We respect human life, but we are not going to have your people brandish guns and expect us not to fight back, temu colonial muno! I hope the man who did that in self defence keeps running.

  4. Violence breeds violence. The Chinese have been inviting trouble by the bad way they have been treating Zambian workers all along. How come Indians live peacifully alongside Zambians? Treat us with respect if you want to live in peace in our country .

  5. Quite disappointed with the posts from my fellow Zambian bloggers on this post. For all those in the diaspora we would obviously expect the officials at the Zambian consulate/embassy of the respective countries we are in to look after our welfare and rains concern with the authorities in the host country if they felt our security was threatened. The Chinese official was just doing the same in this case. There is no need for anyone to make such disparaging remarks about other national whether be it Chinese or any other national. I would have expected better from Zambians in the diaspora because they know better than others the challenges of living in a country other than you own

  6. Can the zed government also complain about the safety of our nationals. How many Zambians did the big rim explosive kill? in Sinazongwe u Chinese killed again. for you only 3 this year and u are complaining. Go back to China we

  7. The story is taking a different version as its put by the Chinese embassy official from what the Lusaka Police Chief and media reports. The Chinese should not hink they are being targeted criminals are all over the world. We have Zambians who have committed crimes in other countries including China and these are serving jail sentences. Is it order for Chinese nationals to threatening their employees with fire arms as way of solving their grievances. There is need to treat each event differently. It appears there is no real trust between a Chinaman and a Zambian. The trust is just between political leaders. These Chinese friends have to intergrate into Zambian society and then there wont b suscipions of each other.

  8. is this case related to the one that is alledged to have happened on freedom way concerning the guy who was demanding a salary increment or this is a different one.

  9. Are these people victimised BECAUSE they are Chinese or because they HAVE what the murderers want? That is the question.

  10. My view is that what we are seeing, the apparent friction between Chinese nationals and zedians is failure by government to regulate the activities of these people. When it comes to occupational safety, labour practices, trading etc the Chinese have been given a free hand to do what ever they want. It is the responsibility of the authorities to give strict guidelines that these people must follow and to enforce them. Who has been imprisoned after the mine deaths for negligence?
I find it odd to blame all Chinese people who are living here and trying to earn a living. They are simply not being regulated in their activities. As a result we see this friction occurring eg employer and employee that ended in violence. The root cause is lack of regulation not Chinese people.

  11. Yes they keep the BUCKS in their rooms and this attracts the bad boys. These bad believe dont care what one’s race is. What matters is get the cash at whatever cost then kuchiliza. Criminals dont discrimnate, they rob, rape, kill and do all sorts of things. Chinaman if you feel your pipo are insecure charter a plane or put them on Tazara off back to China. Many Zambians and other foreign nationals got killed in South Africa and that was not Govt policy. Its just pipo whose emotions erupted and today its history.

  12. This is just a start. There is a limit to which you can push people, and from the look of things, people are starting to get fed up. Now that the Govt doesn’t seem to care much about the people, they will resort to this. I bet you will see more chinese dying because Zambian citizens do not seem protected enough by there own Govt.

  13. Live by the gun, die by the gun.Misplaced hatred makes races a disgrace. You got to find the way to survive because they win when your soul dies, thats the way it is!!!!

  14. SAFETY OF CHINESE NATIONALS ABUSING ZAMBIANS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE SAFETY OF THE OWNERS OF THE COUNTRY BEING ABUSED? THE BEST THING FOR THE CHINESE IS THAT THEY SHOULD CREATE AN ATMOSPHERE OF FRIENDSHIP THROUGH GOOD CONDITIONS OF SERVICE- AMA GUYS WORKING FOR THE CHINESE BALECHULA SANA.

  15. The Chinese have such a bad record, there is no way they will change. There is evdience that even in their own country, workers have no rights. A lot of builders died while building the Brids nest for the olympics, no news was tlod about these poor pipo. Its our Govts fault for not taking care of its own pipo

  16. ITS NOT ABOUT THE SAFETY OF ONE OR TWO CHINAMEN. IT’S THE SAFETY OF ALL ZAMBIAN RESIDENTS AND CITIZENS. SO, ITS NAIVE TO THINK THE SAFETY OF ONE OR TWO CHINAMEN IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE SAFETY OF ALL ZAMBIAN RESIDENTS (AND CITIZENS). But, having said that one realises how other nations care about their citizens abroad. Which is never the case with the Zambian gvt through Zambia’s foreign missions abroad. The Zambian gvt don’t just give a s.h.i.t. what happens to a Zambian abroad.

  17. Their is is a song called , Thats just the way it is, somethings will never change, by Bruce Horns —-They say hey little boy you can’t go
    Where the others go
‘Cause you don’t look like they do
Said hey old man how can you stand
    To think that way
Did you really think about it
    Before you made the rules
    He said, Son
Chorus, hwy young man whare do you thin you

  18. Standing in line, marking time
    Waiting for the welfare dime
‘Cause they can’t buy a job
The man in the silk suit hurries by
As he catches the poor old ladies’ eyes
Just for fun he says “get a job”

That’s just the way it is
    Some things will never change
That’s just the way it is
Ah, but don’t you believe them

They say hey little boy you can’t go
    Where the others go
‘Cause you don’t look like they do
Said hey old man how can you stand
    To think that way
Did you really think about it
    Before you made the rules
    He said, Son

That’s just the way it is
    Some things will never change
That’s just the way it is
Ah, but don’t you believe them

Well they passed a law in ’64
To give those who ain’t got a little more
But it only goes so far
    Because the law…

  19. from#23. In any case this is a criminal offence committed by those who murdered the innocent man, and beat up his mother. Hence, it should be formally, reported to police. And police, using, available resources should investigate the case in the manner, and speed they investigate/handle cases involving any other citizen/resident with impartiality. They shouldn’t over-blow up the budget just because it’s a chinaman-new special or first-class citizens in Zambia.

  20. LT can you Please report the real story of the killing of this chinese man. because 2 stories are contradicting each other. suddenly a 78yr lady was there.

  21. #s 16 and 19 YOU ARE TRUE TO THE POINTS. JUST WAIT AND SEE. MAYBE YOU ARE FORGETTING: “THERE’S NO INNOCENCE AMONG THE OPPRESSED”. ZAMBIANS ARE OPPRESSED IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY BY LEADERS AND FOREIGNER. THERE’S A LIMIT TO WHICH ONE OR A GROUP OF PEOPLE CAN BE OPPRESSED.

  22. #10 marcus mwenya
You’re out of order mate, can you imagine yourself threatening your ‘ red skin’ American employees and expct to get away with it ? No mate, we in diaspora quite alright but we are expected to play by the hosts’ rules. Just curious, for how long have you been away? We all ought to respect our hosts and should demand the same from our guests. And for the brother on the run, please consider Kisangani as your destination, no trace trust me.

  23. If Zambia is not safe for them to live in, they can always find their way back home, we have not at any point helt the chinese captive, they are free to leave!!

  24. For one china man the chinese people have cried foul what about us zambians how many of our own have you killed?

  25. #10 I agree with you , but some times its the human survival instincts that take over ans no time for thinking, i think this guy felt threatned by the China guy and had to defend him self, Human Survival.

  26. I am really struggling with those supporting the actions of the Zambian worker or even attacking the Chinese for this. The mistreatment of workers is another issue but the one at hand is the safety of the investors. If you have money to compete and invets in zambia please avail yourself and we will not have these problems. Until that happens, we need to treat these investors and guests in our nation as equals and give them a piece of mind when they are conducting business in our nation. The Zambian should be caught and given up by any well meaning Zambians, its just the human thing to do. And our nation needs investors really bad.

  27. And dont forget, the chap is a thief, he stole, so it is murder, if he had just argued and provoked by the boss, its manslaughter. if he hated working for the boss, quit and find a good. Dont drag our nation into the mud, we have politicians doing that already.

  28. You have to love the zambian hyporcrisy and the irony. If the tables were turned and this was a Zambian you would have seen bible verses and prayers from the christian nation , now all because the guy that died is chinese you are celebrating? Did the man that was killed the one that created the explosions in chambishi or is he just a figurehead for your backdrop of xenophobic hatred. When the SA were harassing zambians the same bloggers on here were crying like children and yet when chinese are harassed you celebrate, you forget that the chinese can harass the 1000’s of zambians in china as well. If you are willing to support killers you better not cry foul if one of you is killed in cold blood

  29. Crimez don’t happen becauze there iz a Chinese, Malawan, Sudanese, Australian, Zambian, Canadian, Italian or indeed Zambian involved. We can only regret them and sympathize withe affected, while making every effort to improve the safety of citizenz.

  30. Nambala 8, wangu fwisha Jazz, eimwe mulefwaikwa ku mushi. What you ve said .ifyo ine insosa..We need to go home and form the next govt .of Zambian for Zambians by Zambians it will be called Zemocracy

  31. #38 Chitomfwa wake up and smell the coffee bululu! you go to China and find me a Zambian selling Kung-pao chicken at the market, investors what for?we have a govt whose duty is to create resources for all Zambians to prosper in life, the writting is on the wall, our country(Copper mines) were sold for pennies, did you or any Zambian benefit?hell no so we should fight for our fatherland and all it’s riches which belong to us!!!!!any-one who comes bearing gifts should kept at the gates of the city to test their intentions..Zambia is ours Tukafilila Mu nsenga nga baleangala bafipe aba….
