(UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema backs Chinese investment

Share

UPND president Hakainde Hichilema
UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has said his party supports Chinese investments and would work to harmonise it’s position with that of Patriotic Front (PF).
Mr Hichilema said in Lusaka yesterday that the UPND had always believed in investments from any country without any discrimination and would stick to that because Zambia could only develop through increased investments.
Answering a question from a journalist on the matter after a Press briefing, the UPND leader was quick to point out that what needed to be looked at was the current labour laws and their enforcement to ensure that the country only supported progressive investments without any regard to the country of origin.
He said he was aware that the PF had a different approach to the issue but the two parties would harmonise their respective positions to come up with a common view for the PF-UPND Pact.
PF, particularly its leader Michael Sata, is overtly opposed to Chinese investments in the country.
But Mr Hichilema said investments by the Chinese were as good as those by other people from other countries and should not be discriminated on the basis of origin.
Mr Hichilema, who insisted that there were no differences between the two parties on Chinese investments, however, emphasised on harmonisation and consistency.

He said there was need to strengthen local labour laws and their enforcement to ensure the investments, regardless of their origins, did not lead to mistreatment of Zambian workers by subjecting them to poor working conditions.
Mr Hichilema said people should not be scared of the Chinese investments saying when coming into the country the Chinese corporate people followed the stipulated laws and if there was any problem in the way they carried out their businesses, it was because of weaknesses in the law.
He said as separate independent entities, the PF and the UPND could have different approaches to achieving their common vision for the nation, hence the need for harmonisation.
Earlier, when welcoming former Gender minister, Patricia Mulasikwanda and some other people into UPND, Mr Hichilema called for unity of purpose in the country saying politics of regionalism would not help develop Zambia.
He said the issue of regionalism, like tribalism could divide the country and was retrogressive, saying the UPND would continue championing nationalism to advance its vision for the country.

Former Gender and Women in Development Minister Patricia Mulasikwanda addresses journalists at a UPND press briefing when she joined the party in Lusaka yesterday, Dec 27th.
Former Gender and Women in Development Minister Patricia Mulasikwanda addresses journalists at a UPND press briefing when she joined the party in Lusaka yesterday, Dec 27th.

But acting MMD spokesperson Mike Mulongoti has advised Ms Mulasikwanda and other former ministers to exhibit political maturity, high moral values and stop resorting to unfair attacks on the Government.
“People like Ms Mulasikwanda should be grateful to the MMD that after joining the party she was nominated as Cabinet minister by former president Levy Mwanawasa and therefore attacking and insulting the programmes which she was part of will not in any way help her or the nation,” he said.
Others who officially joined the UPND yesterday were former Defence deputy minister, Patricia Nawa, a Ms Beatrice Kwendakwema and a Ms Katenekwa Banda.

  1. wont you start the war with ba sata like that, you could have said this after the 2011 elections when you are second president, anyway had luck HH.

  2. There is nothing wrong with Chinese investments. We need to do our homework and ensure that our interests are served. The problem is that we do not do this and cry foul at the end of the day. We should also learn lessons from other countries which have seen Chinese investments and avoid any problems that they faced.

  3. I think, there is need for rational thinking. President Sata has never been against ANY INVESTMENT from CHINA. What he is against is the CHINESE WAY of RUNNING BUSINESSES, where they think a Zambian is good for nothing and thus just pay them PEANUTS

  4. What SATA is against which even yourself as a Zambian should truely be is the issue of paying Qualified and Experienced Artisans in the Mines K800,000/-. Surely no sane soudning Zambian should torelate that. What you should not condone from the CHINESE is like what is happening at Kandabwe Column Coal Mine. You need to detest that together with the Chinese. To me Hakainde and Sata are speaking the same Language. We need to start setting standards for these Chinese Investors.

  5. I hope these people are working on their manifesto, etc and exactly who will be president between the two if they are elected into power. We dont want confusion after jubilation of MMD’s exit

  6. Firstly, I agree with HH’s stance on Chinese investment, we need it so desperately but on a win-win basis. I also think that PF’s stance on Chinese investment has been mis-understood and mis-interpreted by a lot of people.

Secondly, I don’t support this idea of moving from one political party to another, in my mind it’s political prostitution and being a mindless opportunist. It’s better to stay within your party and fight to change it for the better like.

No wonder some of us have become independent pipo because no one is inspiring enough.

  7. #7 Mukabe, no they are not speaking the same language, Hakainde’s speech is a voice of reason, in comparison to Sata’s irrational behaviour. These are issues they should have ironed out way before formation, so that as they make statements now, we have one voice coming from the pact, not Sata saying he thinks its a horse and rider relationship, while another is saying he sees nothing wrong with them. The problem here is that we have two heads, and there will be more contradictory statements to come for as long as the pact has no single voice, do not fool yourself by thinking it is one voice, these are two presidents with different opinions regarding the Chinese, it is clear this is an issue, they need to revisit.

  8. I do agree with HH that we should look at the broader view, ie lets harmonise our labour laws for the protection of Zambians against all investors, the problem currently is that going by the current labour laws, All Zambians are at risk if faced with unscrupulous investors who will use the same laws to justify the Treatment of us Zambians ( Which we call Mis treatment)

  9. @6 & 7, Mukabe: Do not put words in peoples mouths. Sata is against all of Chinese Investment; and the issue of poor working conditions is just one of the reasons he gives to justify his anti-Chinese campaign. He does not recognise China’s investment and its role in the economic development of not only Zambia, but also Africa as a whole! Don’t make excuses on his behalf!

  10. LT idiocy. This story was for last week and you put it today? You things are so worthless. Leave reporting to qualified people. You are embarrassing Zambia on the Internet

  11. I know that some of these people are politicaly twisted in their minds. Everything that Sata says is wrong. That is the reason why the end up voting RuBBish like RB. All because of hatred. Sata is very much concerned about the welfare of all Zambians. He hates treating his people like slaves. There you go, castigating him without reading in between the lines of what he says. Be carefull of the Chinese, baka mishila ifilindi mukashale muleponenamo. Nisnshi nabasenda umukuba onse. If we had voted for Sata earlier on this time Zambia would somehow be trdaing on a different path, setting standards for the rest to follow. He may not completly change thing around in his own term.

  12. Iam sure UPND does not support worker’s exploitation, slave wages and inhuman treatment of Zambian workers. This being true, then there is nothing to harmonise. Otherwise blind suppot for chineese investment like MMD, can endanger the so called Pact.

  13. President Sata should be viewed in a broader perspective Chinese/Taiwan relationship, Mugabe/Western countries. We need more information on his foreign policy, otherwise we are heading for disaster!!

  14. SATA mune ilandile wemwine nangu fyepa press conference. State your position ba Times of Zambia Banyanya. Balekubepesha. Landa Sata, overtly so that naine ngunfwe. Speak out so that Times can stop smearing you unfairly. ARE YOU AGAINST ANY CHINEESE INVESTIMENT? Bushe Hakainde nao atontonkanya nga ba Times of Zambia?

  15. Huh! Huh!! Mmm! Sata this….Sata that….Pact this, pact that……imwe imwe….imwe ba TOZ

  16. #7(Mukabe)
Sata is against Beijing and recognises Taiwan as a sovereign state and NOT renegade contrary to Zambia’s position since independence.China is an economic force that we cant afford to alienate or will be left out.His language against Beijing is so diabolic that once president will land us in diplomatic crisis.Mind you,China has always been an all-weather friend to us.

  17. Sort out your labour laws. Do you see any Chinese investor sitting in parliament. If your labour law is weak any investor will capitalise on it. We have MPs who shouldn’t be parliament and that’s what the problem is in Zed.

  18. I like the thinking and diplomacy of HH. Hes not saying he disagrees but rather having a different approach. Thats shows maturity and hope our Zambian leaders should think like that rather than being personal. We need people with ideas rather those with big insults. You’ve finally won my heart HH, keep up!!

  19. There are no conflicting views between Sata and HH and in fact Sata has been misunderstood on this Chinese investment debate. The Pact is being democratic by accomodating free speech unlike the MMD where Banda’s word is final and you dare not challenge him, remember Namakando, Magande and Namulambe who are being hounded out for expressing their views. MMD is just undemocratic as UNIP under Kaunda, ”You must tow the party line and UNIP mulilo

  20. HH and his cohorts have no choice in the matter. The Chinese government are very liquid in terms of financial reserves and I am surprised that HH party and their partner PF think they can mess with them. HH should have joined MMD and humbled himself, that way there was chance he would be President one day.

  21. #29,I guess ur right on HH joining MMD and perhaps thats why even LPM was disappointed with him because he actually promised Levy that he would join MMD b4 Mazoka died.

  22. Zambia has lost many vibrant young leaders who have just ended up dying while fighting govt from outside in the names of Baldwin Nkumbula,Paul Tembo,Anderson Mazoka,Dean Mung’omba.HH should make the right decisions and seek the right company if he really wants to make a difference in the lives of the Zambian people otherwise if Sata dribbles him then that will be the end of him politically. Let him make a deal with RB to form an alliance with MMD for 2011.After they’ve won RB should take him as his vice and show him the ropes of power.2016 RB won’t be qualified to stand and he can put his weight behind HH as the 5th republican presido. You can’t wrestle your way into power otherwise he will die wrestling!

  23. I warned you that this pact is disastrous. You can not trust sata s way of doing things. He never consistent.A few months a go he was pausing a on a photo with the chines worker and today he does not support the chines investment.Sata is an emotional man.He full of FEAR.He cant walk boldly alone where there no recognition.Full of insecurity.Be democratic.

Watch and wait.Time shall surely tell.

  24. #18 tapali efo engalanda Sata pali iyi ilyashi, ali landa kale fyonse twalyumfwa kale. Elo apa bambi baleyi bepa ukutila tapali problem, butti mumitima nabeshiba ukutila kuti, ifintu nafisobana.

  25. Now Sata will really be mad with this news coming from HH. But hey, we need the Chinese investment, even USA has strong ties with the Chinese investment. Sata is just some arrogant grandfather who doent understand international economics. Way to go HH

  26. there is nothing wrong with HH’s opinion as sata’s political stand is not based on chinese investment. after all, when u marry its not like u agree on everything.

  27. HH need to tell us how they can harmonize this:

“Sata has kept repeating his threats that his administration would get tough kick out all foreign investors out of Zambia the Zimbabwe and Uganda’s Dada Idi Amini way.” END QUOTE

  28. Sata commonly known locally as “King Cobra”, has said he rejects the notions that Mugabe was mistaken to have seized white-owned commercial farms to give to landless blacks, a policy many economists say has helped drive once-prosperous Zimbabwe to its knees.

“Mugabe hasn’t done anything wrong. It is the imperialists, the capitalist roaders who say he is a villain,” Sata has said. “The people of Zimbabwe are not suffering. They are much happier.”

  29. Sata has kept repeating his threats that his administration would get tough kick out all foreign investors out of Zambia the Zimbabwe and Uganda’s Dada Idi Amini way.

The failure and implosion of the PACT is all here. What is alarming is when the Sata faction is saying. “Sata has kept repeating his threats that his administration would get tough kick out all foreign investors out of Zambia the Zimbabwe and Uganda’s Dada Idi Amini way”while the HH other is the opposite.

  30. “Mugabe hasn’t done anything wrong. It is the imperialists, the capitalist roaders who say he is a villain,” Sata has said. “The people of Zimbabwe are not suffering. They are much happier.”

  31. 36. Loose Canon, UPND & PF are not in marriage. Therefore each party has its maifesto hence the difference on various issues. Working togather is the main objective of the Pact.

  32. HH need to come clear and tell the free world about his harmonization with the Partner’s passion and convenant for the the Dada Idi Amini and Zimbabwe option.

“Sata has kept repeating his threats that his administration would get tough kick out all foreign investors out of Zambia the Zimbabwe and Uganda’s Dada Idi Amini way”while the HH other is the opposite.

  33. No: 42: do not paste here…!! you are very careless with your writing. I hope you will improve next time you write here..!!!

  34. I was getting worried that the Pact was collapsing until I read HH’s position. You give us hope, mwana ukwesu.

  35. I’m not amused that Sata has the passion of late Dictator Idi Amin Dada. They share too many traits if we have to debunk maaters. Both are carry lives of illiteracy without education, born under trees,Polygamists,anti-democracy megalomeianics, insulting, insecure with own inferior complex, egocentric and attention seekers. Amin’s rule was characterised by human rights abuses, political repression, ethnic persecution, extrajudicial killings, nepotism, corruption and gross economic mismanagement which Sata share if we look at the Chawama Massacre where pangas slashed multitudes.

  36. Dictator Idi Amin Dada was xenophobic so is Sata to all foreign nationalities.

Amin kicked them out in 48 hours to the corrupsy of Uganda so is vowing to kick out all foreign investors out of Zambia.

Amin believed he was king of Scotland so is Sata believing he is king of the anti free Globalized world.

  37. On Zimbabwe,Sata has never been a Nationalist but pathetic violent tribalist.Nationalists serve the nation not narrow end tribal and personal ego.Yes he is renting the PF from Zanu-PF under patent but not as a nationalist.Nationalists fight for the independence of their countries.Sata fought against Zambian independence in favour of colonialism.Alot of Zambian freedom fighters killed were because of his collaboration with the colonialist he was serving as a cook. When we conquered the pro-colonialist, he rebeled against the new republic to join Alice Lenshina’s Lumpa Sect Movement that took over hundreds of innocent Zambian lives. It was after years of gunning down Lenshina by our Commandoes that Sata pleaded with UNIP to join as a vigilante around 1979.

  38. Sata is not against Chinese investment, he is against exploitation of the Zambian workers and the quality of the workmanship of the chinese on some projects. We can’t sacrifice our fellow Zambian and our infrastructure at the expense of appeasing a foreign power. The last time a Chinese envoy was openly criticizing Sata’s views, which is unheard of in diplomatic circles. Which in itself demonstrates the arrogance of the Chinese. They do not think much of us. I am not saying we should not let them invest in Zambia, but we should put Zambia’s interest first. Banda, Sata and HH I am sure are all interested in moving our country forward. Sata could be less blunt, Banda less greedy, HH more courageous.

  39. I’m not amused that Sata has the passion of late Dictator Idi Amin Dada. They share too many traits if we have to get detailed. Both carry lives of illiteracy without education, claim to have been born under trees, Polygamists, anti-democracy megalomaniacs, insulting, insecure with own inferior complex, egocentric and attention seekers. Amin’s rule was characterized with human rights abuses, political repression, ethnic persecution, extrajudicial killings, nepotism, corruption and gross economic mismanagement which Sata share if we look at the Chawama massacre where pangas slashed multitudes.

  40. 41. On Zimbabwe, Sata has never been a Nationalist but pathetic violent tribalist.Nationalists serve their countries not narrow end interest.Yes he is renting the PF from Zanu-PF under patent but not as a nationalist.Nationalists fight for the independence of their countries.Which Sata callously fought against in favor of colonialism. Sata has no matching traits with Zimbabwe’s President Mugabe but Dictator but every degree of Dada Idi Amin.

  42. Surely I’m not amused that Sata has the passion of late Dictator Idi Amin Dada.

  43. Look at these facts:Dictator Idi Amin Dada was xenophobic so is Sata to all foreign nationalities.
Amin kicked them out in 48 hours to the collapse of Uganda so is Sata vowing to kick out all foreign investors out of Zambia.
Amin believed he was king of Scotland so is Sata believing he is king of the anti free Globalized world.

  44. On Zimbabwe, Sata has never been a Nationalist but pathetic violent tribalist.Nationalists serve their countries not narrow end interest. Yes he is renting the PF from Zanu-PF under patent but not as a nationalist. Nationalists fight for the independence of their countries. Which Sata callously fought against in favor of colonialism. It was after years of gunning down Lenshina by our Commandoes that Sata pleaded with UNIP to join as a vigilante around 1979 hence never landing a cabinet portfolio.

  45. Personally, I’m not stunned with Sata when I hear that. “Sata has kept repeating his threats that his administration would get tough kick out all foreign investors out of Zambia the Zimbabwe and Uganda’s Dada Idi Amin option”

  46. no 40. you are ignorant , and foolish, go back to class and do you home work right, old thinkers want to stay in power. the new breed is trying to settle things in a disent manner.but some one had to come up with foolish thoughts(No 40).

  47. Zambians,Zambians clearly you can tell from Mr Sata’s convo that the man is not capable of running Zambia and bringing growth to the country.I see alot of people on here just respond and don’t really understand the issues at hand.Direct investment is how countries grow and its people benefit. It’s not up to china or any other investor to regulate themselves,it’s up to the govt.Iam sorry to say,but Sata 1.is not a generational leader, his time and politics are in the past.We need younger leaders to drive this country forward. Why is it that Zambians never want what is best for them and the country.Sata was under UNIP,MMD,and now PF.What do you think will change?PLLLZZZZZZ Zambians lets be objective and fight for real change.

  48. Guys many pipo think we hate not at all.Sata is a zambian like any one but not fit be a president. He will be making irrational decision which is dangerous to our country. If Bembas want a president from a Bemba land why not go Felex mutati such a an inteligent guy.At the moment HH can do the job better than Sata or Milupi looks better than some of opppsitions.

  49. Guys many pipo think we hate sata not at all.Sata is a zambian like any one but not fit be a president. He will be making irrational decision which is dangerous to our country. If Bembas want a president from a Bemba land why not go Felex mutati such a an inteligent guy.At the moment HH can do the job better than Sata or Milupi looks better than some of opppsitions.

  50. #53, I agree with you….HH is smart and well grounded in his approach…he understands things from a broder perspective. # 62, say that again!!!!

  51. OK so you people who say Sata is “not fit” to be president, tell us who is “fit” please, you are just chewing the money your parents already have stolen is that somehow not true?

  52. #48 Thank you for that piece of info about Sata ,this man is severely demon possessed no wonder he followed lenshina.Anyway people free of such demonic powers like myself should not follow this devils agent he speaks no peace ,he can’t debate ‘he’s a god on his on.Micheal chilufya Satana Lenshina should be his name period.Terrible tribalist.May the Lord Almighty deal with you as your sins deserve sellout satana.Kabwalala iweee

  53. #30, 31 I said the same earlier on. The young man is in so much of a hurry and has made serious errors. I think it is too late. HH’s alliance with Mr Sata was a very ill-informed decision. If there is any one man we should hold responsible for Mazoka’s failure to get to Plot One – it is Mr. Sata. He is visionless and undemocratic.

  54. I cant understand why and how Zambians misunderstand SATA’s simple and straight forward English. Never has SATA told Zambians that he will chase Chinese investors if he were to become president. But, he has said he will not tolerate the exploitation of Zambians even when these investors have been given so muchon the expense of the Zambian people who are despite all that still massively exploited. He has also said he will not allow the Chinese or any other investors to import even unskilled labour into Zambia. So, if you Zambians haven’t got a problem with what SATA is against, then I dont know what you are looking for.

  55. #15 Kadoli.. People dont even need to read between the lines. SATA is very clear on this. He doesnt even mice his words. Unless people just want todistort the story because they hate SATA. He has talked about amending labour laws to have a win-win situation for both Zambia and China. He has also talked about the same investors setting up processing industries for copper and other raw materials within Zambia. Zambians claim to be educated, but its a wonder why they fail to understand even basic things. Manufacturing industries ni junior secondary education mu Geography.

  56. sata ba mbuya old like mcain of USA will never listen to hichilema..when sata says no it means no ..i tell you sata will lead zambia to poor economy power everything ..he sata will tell all inverstors to go out ..sata is too old to understand the mordern world ..look at his cobra face..sata-na like ..llet young people carry on ..you want to die while in power ..no no please back up young guys with fresh idears ..we must press a restart batton..

  57. SATA MUST LOOSE LIKE MACAINE ..HE IS TOO OLD .WITH OLD IDEAR .LOOK AT HIS TEETH AND FACE..how can sata make plans for ther future when he will not be in the future ..he is too old

  58. #37 muli babufi sana babwana. I cant believe you can tell such lies even when you are living in at least a semi-democratic country. Unlike those living in non-democratic countries such as Zambia or China itself. Babwan dont mislead people.

  59. All those who support Sata dont worry. We will be here in the diaspora waiting to assist you when you come seeking asylum if he gets into power.

  60. Dear countrymen be realistic and reasonable. Its not too late to change course and its not too late to make the future Zambia habitable. I keep on wondering what you people see in Sata and why you keep on ignoring the fact that this man is a danger to the development of nation in probably every aspect. We can’t keep on making steps backwards. I understand Sata might be a your father’s colleague but sink it in your heard he is a menace to our society and our relationship with international community.
Mannerless and without remorse are his characteristics. For heavens sake HH is a million times better suited to be president than this maniac grandpa. Lets move on and be examples to other countries. Its time people we have been circling for too long.
    Seasons greetings to you ALL!!

  61. May some one list up the benefits from the chinise investment in zambia. Ask those that work for the chinise firms about the benefit they get. Just generalising about their Globle invetment power might not make sense if the their investments does not make the local populancy any better. List the benefits.

  62. #75, BOMBER:

That is why what HH has said makes a lot of sense!!

Labour laws, my friend, labour laws. Strength them and enforce them, that is the way to go. Not spouting off xenophobic rants to impress the gullible.

  63. We are checking who will stand as president of the pact, and now the scores are:
HH 1: Sata 0,on the matter of Chinese investment..(Second matter please, we want to see who will win).

  64. Imwee, energy is a virtue in state house, you cannot have someone without the strength to read, information is in paper (books). Lets spare the old man sata from this trouble. We need modern thinking in this country. We really appreciate the political contributions from mr. sata, but alas! biological time does not permit him to be in such a demanding seat. Let look for options

  65. All you pipo can’t you see that is dividing us, let’s stick togather and make history, better and improved living for us all

  66. people, people! Sata doesn’t like china becuase he supports and gets funding from Taiwan..it not because he cares for the poor zambian on the street…he cares about his pocket period! if he was to become president today, he will kick out china and bring in taiwan and fill his pockets.

    # 16 just to answer you..HH does support( or he just looks away when issues are raised) workers explotaition…Ask workers at sun international livingstone, am an ex-employee myself..HH is chairman for sun international zambia…upto date workers conditions are not so great despite the hotels making alots money than any other known hotel in zambia today

  67. Ndobo, when you are chairman, your duty does not always extend to executive duties. Perks are decided by either collective burgaining or the management ability to justify the salary increase to the board. The interest of the private company Board is to increase revenue, make profit, improve customer satisfactions and maintain their skilled manapower..all good things to the business side of the owner..if workers do not complain, management is likely to leave the status call..So please, dont bllame HH for the conditions of service at SUN, the owners to improve the condition is that of the workers, the Executive management and the OWNER.. the Chair is the Chair to delibarate/

  68. Blah, blah, blah
Sata this, Sata that. HH this, HH that.
Well, what you gonna do about?
Only thing makes sense here is #63 MukaNdeke.
    Gorgeous, beautiful, höt beauty!

  69. Suntwe i know that my brother! but what if you are chairman and politician at the same time….people are complaining about working conditions, and you want those workers to vote for you or “you are saying you are going to bring development in their lives”..you mean you can’t influence the owners?…what makes a good leader sometimes is to do good things for ordinary people despite red tape conditions

  70. The PACT should be based on ideology not on oppotunism. It is clearly that HH and Sata have different ideologies and have formed a PACT just to gain more votes than MMD collectively. What kind of mmariage is this. HH does not believe in Sata and vice versa. The followers too. Can reason and insanity dwell together, any more than oil and water mix?

China need our minerals. Our govt just needs to be self-less and make sure that Zambians get the best possible deal out of every investment. Parliament is best positioned to raise questions regarding how invetsments are attracted and harnessed in Zambia. They can also question why labour laws, which they made, are not being executed. RB is at the apex of teh Executive, he must be seen to champion worker’s plight, so should be the Judiciary.

  71. #86 contd

We teh voters do carry responsibility too. We must vote for people who will do what we want them to do for us, not whatever they want to do. Zambia voters are quite poor at this. We should not complain at what we get sometimes. A state president and MPs are voter in by us. They are our own baby. How then can we turn and complian, what is this we have given birth to. Please let us vote wisely, not just based on gifts like salt, beer, money etc or blind loyalty to parties that will only make things worse.

  72. I think Ndobo has a point these SUN International Management are very cruel they do not regard the Zambia labour law , in fact those chaps can only be delt with Sata not HH they think that they own the whole livingstone .To those who are properly qualified you really have to think twice before accepting working for this company (devils), personally Im have witinessed how people have been un fairly treated here at SUN INTERNATIONAL HOTEL, and my simple advise research very well before crussifying yourself.Very soon I will be leaving as well I cannot continue working with these chaps anymore.

  73. It is understood that both HH & Sata have 50/50 chance of candidature. The future of Zambia can not be left to chance. Further, if HH wins Sata might turn out to be vice president. Some leaders should be kept as far from power as possible! Remember what he did to MMD when he was number 2? Cut some ears in Chawama with pangas, expelled from the party anyone with a different view, moved government money in huge catonboxes…The list is endless.

  74. Investors, investors, investors. ……..its now 20 years since this song started. Do you think it will take us somewhere ? They get rich easily but we struggle easily ………

  75. There is alot of talking now, who will be the president…!!! The president will be announced by the governing council of the pact…!!! There alot of things and consultations going on right now…!!!!. Pact candidate is not for UPND or PF but for president of the country… that is why they are so careful here. They do not need calculator,,, to know better….who will be presidentail candidate. According to the un conformed report,, they will look at where they are likely to get additional votes which is not with the pact strong hold and see who will get those votes they are looking for. The provinces to play here is western, north-western provinces..if they get these votes, they win.. which means MMD will have no chance..!!!!

  76. More reason why H.H should be leader of the pact. Not all chinese investment is bad, firstly we have to look at emforcing our labour laws rather than look for selective investment.

  77. No# 64’s comment is indeed the wisest. Your parents have robbed us period. And some of you broke Zambians agreeing with these rich children ask 64 and I and we shall expose these sellout offspring. All sata needs is an effective general as his vice and Zambia is set, AKA Miyanda. Try shooting my point down and my floodgates open. Problem with these theiving children is now they know that since we have been exposed to the east and west we know the ain’t ( cow dung).

  78. # 63 + # 93 maybe some of you have parents who worked/ing in gvt BUT NOT I … My parents NEVER worked nor did they get money in form of wage from any so called imployer. I rose from rags to riches thru hard working. That time 70s and early 80s there was free education for all hence I took advantage of that.. baring in mind that the world is cruel to me than to women.

After my grade 12 I was luck to have been offered a scholarship wholely paid by the Fin state. I got nothing from gvt that any Zam can complain of and find your statement baseless..

Vote for HH if you want to see Zambia developed. What interest has Zambian in Sata’s view of China and Taiwan relationship. It won’t benefit anyone just to deprive of Zambia’s chances of development. China has influence in Africa .

  79. The best leader zambia can have is in the name of HH. I have just realised that supporting my own tribeman in the name of sata will never just bring development into my area but just loosing the little we had. HH is a man no one can bribe because he is employed, he will never kneel to anyone fro bread and butter and this is our chance zambians to choose the best man for our land. He has managed to reach this far in terms of wealth, what can make him fail to raise wealth for the nation. The problem we have in zed is that we want just to elect those who are looking for jobs hence they just cheat us all the time so that they can remain there to feet on top of our heads. Youths we need to wake up, and open our eyes.

  80. Cont. If you have observed, most of these people who want to be our leaders have never done anything for themselves to prove to us that they can manage to reduce the poverty in the country. This time no one should cheat us because we have given enough time to show us through the ant corruption commission what HH store, but up to now they are silent and when the time for elections comes they start calling him names to blind fold us. HH is the best man for the country, a man who can bring hope to desperate youths in the street, not these unemployed men who want to eat on top of our heads while we are looking, hence they have no princeple in life, moving from one party to another.

  81. As for me HH I do not care where where you come from as long as you can deliver development to the country. We are tired of recycling the people who do not deliver meaningful development to our lives because when they get there thats when they want to secure their families from our sweat because they never worked for their own first. Someone has never gotten on a plane and wants to fly when he is a leader what a shame, thats why they do not deliver because we elect them for comfort and not service.
Go HH Go we need you my man.

  82. What we need in zambia are good labour laws which pleases us zambians unlike thse weak ones favouring chinese, hence chasing them as you say is not a good solution. Those Chinese who want to reep from us will be chased by the laws but the genuine ones will remain.

  83. ok here is my take on these chinese “investors”,they come over, open businesses, Zambians come over and line up for jobs, they are told you will be paid zmk800,000 the zambian signs the for the job and starts working, after probably three months the Zambian starts to complain and agitate for more pay.when you sign up for the job in a capitalist society, where you provide labour for money, it is envisaged you agreed to the amount of money you will be compansated.cry babies and whiners, boycott.

  84. Pact? Those who have something in their heads already saw the pact for what it is, a non-starter. How can any right thinking person believe in such nonsense?

  85. Dear Mr. President
The Pact: Just Politicking or the Dawn of a New Political Dispensation?
I am a patriotic non-partisan political Zambian who takes an interest in the happenings within the local and international political landscape.

After sitting on the sidelines and watching the making of your pact, I feel it is time I said something or forever hold my peace.
Mr. President, sir, much as the formation of this pact is welcome and indeed long overdue; I have some observations which I would be grateful if you took some time off your very busy schedule and addressed. If not to the general populous in Zambia who have loyally followed your individual parties (some of whom have risked even their lives!), at least address the writer.
I feel this pact is just another selfish political…

  86. Chinese Investment is good for Zambia. All Sata and his shadow cabinet will have to do after 2011 is putting in proper legislation to curb Chinese excesses. This will apply to other investors. For example, there will be need to set up affordable wages and salaries for workers, social security benefits, safety and health at work place and many more. This will probably lead to distrust that is currently there between Chinese Investors and Zambian Workers.
