Construction of Lusaka General Hospital to commence soon

Share

Government says construction works on the new Lusaka General Hospital are set to commence before the end of this year.

Ministry of Health Spokesperson Canicious Banda said in an interview today that funds are available and a combined team of experts from the Zambian and Chinese governments are currently working on the design of the Hospital.

Dr. Banda explained that the hospital will undergo various steps before its actual completion with three steps already undertaken which include laying of the foundation stone, study of a soil sample from the site and designing of the hospital.

He said government is committed to constructing the new hospital in a bid to decongest and reduce the burden on the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

He added that other clinics in Lusaka have also been upgraded to what he termed mini hospitals to offer more services and supplement the UTH.

He named some of the clinics as Matero, Kanyama, Chawama and Chipata compound clinics.

Dr. Banda noted that Lusaka does not have a District and Provincial hospital hence the decision to expedite the process of constructing the new Lusaka General Hospital that will be located in the vicinity of Chainama Hills Hospital.

He said the Ministry of health remains committed to its vision and the Fifth National Development Plan which aim to take quality health care services as close to the family as possible.

Last year the late Republican President Dr. Levy Mwanawasa laid a foundation stone on the site to mark the start of the construction process.

  1. Its about time we had a new hospital with state of the art equipment. Please make sure its clean and that the medical staff are paid to avoid frustrated personnel.

  2. AS LONG AS THE CHINESE HAVE A HAND IN IT, AM VERY SUSPICIOUS ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE BUILDING. INQUIRIES INTO THE COLLAPSED SCHOOLS DURING CHINA’S LAST EARTHQUAKE CONCLUDED THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE POOR QUALITY OF MATERIALS USED. NOW IF THEY CANNOT USE PROPER QUALITY IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY, WHAT WILL MAKE THEM USE GOOD QUALITY PA ZED?

  3. For MMD Lusaka is Zambia, and zambia is Lusaka. what are you doing for Sesheke, Chinsali, katete, Lundazi and other rual areas.

  4. sounds a good idea, hope its not some campaign tricks. bamambala imwe junior doctors have continued with the strike, sort out their issues before you start opening your mouths about new hospitals.

  5. Good let the LPM Legacy continue. Please build more and supply all with the needed essentials. Canisius any relations to the incoming PRESIDIO RB

  6. THEY CAN’T IMPROVE SERVICES IN THE HOSPITALS WE HAVE AT PRESENT YET THEY WANT TO BUILD MORE. SOMEONE IS GETTING A FAT PAY CHEQUE OUT OF THIS

  7. Our Goverment and the chinese people are full of lies. they have failed to build the stadium who can trust fools like MMD? We know you are compaining.

  8. Please we don’t to see nurses who are nurses because they don’t have anything else to do, so taking up the job to sustain their living. We want dedicated and qualified personnel at this new general hospital.
We also don’t want to have corrupt pharmacists who sale govt drugs to chemists thus denying patients the right to medicine. All govt clinics and hospital have free access to medicines from medical stores limited but these drugs are delivered to these facilities, they sale them to chemists. Every now and then we hear that there are no drugs in hospitals. So where do these drugs go to?

  9. That is good news. The pronouncements about the construction of the hospital started a long time ago before our MAN died. I wish he could be there to offically open it when it is completed.

The idea to introduce these columns is a very wonderful one. Thumbs up to you but I am only concerned with some of the contributions which are well off the mark or meaningless to this cause. Perhaps get a leaf from the 606 debate, where users are first screened before they are allowed to post anything. This will assist in maintaining the standards of these columns and ensure they remain educative. Otherwise they may become childish and petty at the end of the day. We can all fore see what will happen if this is not checked!
NB: I am not attacking anybody who has contributed; just want to prop up the debates!!!

  11. 6. Princess, london
Mwalifulwa sana imwe ninshi your comments sure you need more hospitals even in london where you are there are some hospitals which can not just be repaired to a good standard so they build new ones

  12. Aaaah likuba ze,muyaha fela lipatela zangana mwa lusaka, you think other parts of the country do not need good hospitals,is lusaka the only place where people live, even if its a good idea, give me a break, you have clearly said that you have even upgraded clinics in lsk,why about other provinces, lack of priorities.

  13. #2 ,obviousely u havent been watching the olympics…The chinese can build.. Put your foot down. These are the only people to see us through.

  14. A Long overdue but very welcome development.Perhaps the GOVT can now also start planning for the other provinces too or least consider upgrading and expanding the existing provincial general hospitals.

  15. This is a very good development. We all know the story of old faithful UTH. However, please ensure that you have a motivated workforce. It’s also high time the Doctors at MoH starting practicing, after all this is what they were trained for,not to sit behind office desks doing administrative work. Sometimes, listen to Dr. Francis Manda’s sound advice regarding some of these issues. It’s worth it.

  16. #17 DON’T GET ME WRONG. AM NOT AGAINST MORE HOSPITALS. I JUST THINK HOSPITALS LIKE UTH, BATOKA, LEWANIKA ETC NEED TO BE IMPROVED AND BE MORE EFFECTIVE. SURELY YOU’LL AGREE THAT THERE IS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT MWE BANTU…

  17. indeed this project is long overdue but I also agree with #2. Why should it always be chinese constructing in Zambia? I would feel more secure if the Germans were handling the structure. With them it’s 100% efficiency.

  18. Good development coming up. Its nice to know things are looking up home just hoping this is not a campaign gimmick. Otherwise, its a great thing, we need more hospitals other than flying out to foreig hospitals when we find ourselves in situations of health.

Poltically, we need God’s guidance in all this and that having said and done, may He gant us the wisdom to vote for the right person. Some one with Zambia at heart.

  19. These Flags actually are tracing the country from which the email is emanating from. So they are actually exposing where you are writing from.

  20. That “soon” guys tells the whole story. We have been here before with ba MMD. Utuma voti nakambi! Why do they only talk about doing this doing that when there are elections coming? Stupid indeed.

If I was given a chance to amend the constitution, these are things I would change straight away. Abash talking about building this building that when there are elections coming. It makes my cousins in Mongu think the money is comig from MMD.

Last post from me guys. I do not like this flag thing.

    Go Mikaeli go!

  21. I think the hospital is a good idea but maintainig it is another.Health is not cheap lets not only depend on donated drugs to maintain our hospitals.thats why we have insurance companies, let pipo contribute to insurance and insurance to pay hospitals.Lastly if there is anything we can do guys to stop these politicians from going to southafrica for treatment it would be appreciated so that they can suffer with us and improve our hospitals. No wonder they die!!

  23. I dont think the clinic will be of a poor quality the chineese omly make according to what one can afford. Some of the things LPM improved was ensuring that all works done and products in Zambia to be of a very high quality. This building of ahospital is not a new thing.LPM laid the foundation stone, already money has already been reserved for that purpose, even though these guys are trying to use like a political campaign. Most of the things that will be going on as of now are mostly the things LPM left underway.Atleast even for the next two to three years.Even if a new president came there will be a few things he will have to top up.
A Hospital is an excellent idea.

  24. the hospital is a good idea and very welcome. but the urgent thing to look at right now is how to motivate the health personnel to work efficiently and increase morale in the sector as this is not currently happening.

  25. I am very delighted about the building of the new hospital. Please its not only about building. Try to go through the main objectives of the new hospital those that ARE NOT well done at the UTH. As a corcened citizen I would say that PATIENT-NURSE-DOCTOR RELATIONSHIP should be improved, CARE WITH FULL PACKAGE ESPECIALLY GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILLS WITH THE PATIENTS.

  26. 33# INSURANCE ISSUE MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA, BUT LETS THINK OF BANA KULU MALAMA FROM KALIKILIKI WHO DOES NOT EVEN UNDERSTAND THE TERM INSURANCE AT THE SAME TIME NO MONEY TO PAY FOR INSURANCE. SO HOW DO WE TAKE CARE OF HER AS A POOR CITIZEN?

  27. Thsi is where we should spend money intsead of building a state of the art soccer stadium. It will be really sad if we build a soccer stadium before a hospital.

After all Ba Zambia Makula they never win!

  28. #25. beggers are not choosers. The Chinese are buying our Copper. Find out where the Germans buy thiers and you will undrstadn from an economic point of veiw. The Germans would cost twice.
