Heavy Rains cuts of Sinazongwe people

The People of Chiyabi area in Sinazongwe district has been cut off from the rest of the district following collapse the bridge.
Sinazongwe District Commissioner Mr. Lavian Apuleni confirmed the development to ZANIS that the bridge was washed away along Sinazeze Chiyabi road following a heavy down poll.

Mr. Apuleni disclosed that People in Muuka and Siameja have also been cut as the roads have become impassable as a result of heavy down poll that has rocked the district.

Last week the heavy down poll destroyed maize fields that were grown along banks of the stream Malima  and  Mweezya in Chief Sinazongwe.

Lester Nambale a passenger in the Minibus which was the last to pass through after the truck collapsed in the gully said, there was only a small portion of the road that has been left.
Mr. Nambale said that vehicles could not pass through the small portion that has been left.
He noted that situation, needs urgent attention before most residents starve since there would be no movements.
Sinazongwe District Commissioner Mr.Lavian Apuleni confirmed receiving the information and said he would find out the extent of the damage.

Mr Apuleni disclosed that people from Chiyabi has been cut from the rest of the district as the remaining bridge along Chiyabi Sinazeze road has been swept away.

The DC said the bridge has been swept away because the heavy rains that the district has been experienced this week.
In January Malima ward Councilor Mr. Fisher Zimani appealed to government to find an alternative measure to ensure that people were not cut off while awaiting for the rehabilitation work to start next season.

Chief Sinazongwe had warned that the Chiyabi-Sinazeze road that links farmers in Malima area would be cut off if urgent attention was not given to it.

Southern Province Permanent Secretary disclosed that government has released 25 million Kwacha to rehabilitate the road and work would only start after the rain season.
