Govt has abandoned me-Chief Kalunga

Share

Chief Kalunga of the Luchazi people of Kabompo district says the district administration has abandoned him and neglected his chiefdom.

The chief claims that the district administration and the District Commissioner in
particular does not go to his palace even when he is sick.

The chief made the remarks when the Zambia Demographic Health Survey 2007 district
committee members paid a courtesy call on him at his Chikenge traditional capital
yesterday.

He accused the district administration and the District AIDS task force of not
reaching his chiefdom to sensitise the people against HIV/AIDS.

He said because of lack of information on HIV/AIDS, people in his area have no
knowledge of forming home-based care organisations to look after the infected
people and orphans.

The Traditional ruler also lamented that while four new high schools have been
opened in other chiefdoms in the district, his area still lags behind in
educationsaying no school has been upgraded to a high school since independence.

He also said there are no agricultural economic activities such as the formation of
Food Reserve Agency satellite depots because farmers have no access to farm imputs
and all the bridges such as Mabebe, Katuba, Kasalya have been washed away.

The chief further said all feeder roads have been extensively damaged by heavy
rains, which have been experienced across the country.
