President Levy Mwanawasa has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to immediately withdraw the diplomatic passport that was issued to former State House Deputy Minister, Webby Chipili.
This follows media reports in one of weekend’s newspapers that Mr Chipili hascontinued using the diplomatic passport he was issued with when he was still at State House as Deputy Minister.
Mr. Chipili was quoted in the newspaper as saying he has continued to use the passport because the President still uses him for official duties.
According to a press statement signed by the President’s Special Assistant for Press
and Public Relations, John Musukuma made available to ZANIS this evening, the President has denied allegations that he still uses Mr. Chipili for official duties.
He said the President has not used Mr. Chipili since he left office at State House last year.
”The correct position is that Mr. Chipili should have surrendered the diplomatic passport upon ceasing to be Deputy Minister, State House,” Mr. Musukuma said in a statement.
This is a lesson to LPM to stop issuing Diplomatic passports to every Jim and Jack. While Home affairs is at it collecting DIP PASS from Chipili,they must also get those from other clowns
The Diplomatic passport has lost it’s meaning,people like Kalusha “footballer”, Cherise “Big Brother Winner” are having diplomatic passport’s while the people whom it is intended have ordinary passport’s.
It’s a circus.
Please issue every Diplomatic Passports to those who need them in their duties. Chipili is a criminal otherwise why can he use a normal passport …. whats so special with smuglling mealie Meal to his brothers in DRC..infact in some border areas people just use passes. Otherwise as said by #1 withdraw from all these criminals. Our Zambia is slowly becoming a failed state…
there is so much inefficiency in gov,it had to take the media to xpose chipli.its high time govt bcome effecient bcoz this country ‘ll end up in chaos.
#4 Yes, I agree, there so much inefficiency LPM’s govt,how many pipo who have left important positions, but are still holding on the DP. Muwelewele pls pull up your socks, do the job u were voted for, dont just waste pipo’s time attacking church and oppositions over constitution assembly. Wake up man u’re the president of the country, not your house.
As laudable as this ‘revelation’ is.. what we need is more investigative journalism exposing corrupt practices in the govt. If Chipili implies that he is still using the DP then why can’t the media investigate on how and why such passports are granted. I take the media to be small-minded only pandering to sensationalist issues rather than what actually affects the common man. When was the last time you read a critique of govt policies?
It just shows what a JOKE we are?
..surely if you relieve someone of their duties you would take the diplomatic passport and whatever else comes with the job away from them…you then give them a cardboard box and tell them to fill their stuff and escort them out of the office????
