FAZ HANDS NKANA HEAVY STADIUM BAN

Share

Nkana FC have been banned from playing all their remaining competitive home games for the next 13 months until July 2008 following crowd trouble at their Wusakile home ground on May 25 in a week 14 fixture against Kalewa.

The ban was handed out today following Nkana’s appearance before a Faz disciplinary committee in Lusaka.

The ban is also the second meted on Nkana in a space of the three years they have been campaigning in division 1 north since being demoted form the top-flight for the first time in 2004.

In passing judgment, Faz has handed Kalewa the 3 points from that game in which the Ndola club was leading 1-0 deep into the 4 minutes of time added-on at the end of the 90 minutes.

Nkana have also been fined K1 million for the fracas.

It the longest stadium ban Faz has handed to any club in recent memory that will overlap well into next season.

There was no immediate statement as to whether Nkana would appeal the ban.

Last Fridays match suffered two stoppages; the first one coming just before the hour mark.

It all started after striker Morgan Kapembwa’s 58th minute equalizer was ruled out for off-side by referee Maurice Changwe as Nkana fans rained missiles onto the pitch.

Moreover, the pre-match build-up at the stadium was marred by shenanigans from the hosts who delayed letting Kalewa entry into the stadium, dressing room and pitch.

And deep into injury time of the match, Nkana fans rained more debris onto the pitch as mayhem reigned and a pitch invasion ensued.

The chaos left referee Changwe with choice but to abandon the game after the match officials were attacked but were saved from abuse thanks to the quick reaction by police officers and club officials at the stadium

Nkana’s blighted hooligan history in division 1 begun in early 2005.

On March 15, 2005 at Wusakile, Nkana fans attacked referee Bernard Chabala after a late 90th minute equalizer from Konkola Blades defender Wellington Mujembe in a match that was abandoned after a pitch invasion with the team’s level at 2-2.

It was the third incident in a space of a month in that year involving Nkana’s notorious “12th man” at Wusakile.

On April 2 of that year, Nkana hooligans beat up referee Tryson Phiri in Nkana’s 1-1 draw at home in a league game against Tazara Express.

A week later, Nkana players accosted a referee in their 1-0 away loss to Forest Rangers in another league fixture at the same venue.

  1. Too bad for Nkana because of thier self fish fans who lack the understanding that football is both wing and lose. I hope all soccer fans will learn from Nkana’s bad bahavior.Good job to FAZ.

  2. This is the second time that FAZ is banning Nkana from using wusakile stadium. What is K1million by the way?
FAZ must be joking to hand out such a soft penalty to the SECOND OFFENDER in Nkana. We need stiff penalties that should deter would be offenders. K30million fine would have justified the offence!!!!!

  3. Why not just demote the Team to Division III. Some of their fans behave like we are still in the early stoneage. Jesus Christ

  4. Anyway K1 million is a lot of money to a club that has a K16 million annual budget. And demotion would be unfair. It’s not the players that caused the fracas, but the fans. The players are well behaved and they should not be punished because of the fans. I think the punishment here is not being dished out to the team but to the soccer fans. Now they will have to spend more to travel to other stadiums to watch their team, I just hope they don’t cause a fracas their. This indeed is a strong message by FAZ to future hooligans. Good job FAZ.

Otherwise boys pick yourselves up and move back to wining ways and hope to see you in Super Division next year. And let the your boots do the talking from on now.

  5. Good job FAZ, hope the nkana fans will learn something from this.let them play all there games in kabwe so that all those holligans fall to watch the games.

  6. Justice,Denmark, Do not use God’s name in vein, do you what that is called, blasphemes you read Matthew 12:31. Soccer has got nothing to do with the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. You better repent and ask God for forgiveness.

  7. Justice,Denmark, Do not use God’s name in vein, do you know what that is called, blasphemes you read Matthew 12:31. Soccer has got nothing to do with the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. You better repent and ask God for forgiveness

  8. I’m a Nkana FC fan but I’m not happy with the other Nkana fans out there in Wusakile. Guys we just have to accept a lose at home ‘fikonka abaume na abanakashi bamobamo’.

  9. It is so sad for Kalapa.Well it is part of the game and i know you will still make it to the top. If the National Sports Council of Zambia former general secretary was working like in FAZ we where not going to end up with the Zambia Amateur athletics adultery Elis and Leah assocition.By the way I don’t know if mother’s and father’s will allow there daughter’s to join athletics with this president of adultery we have. Please ba FAZ advice this man to step down because no one will trust him with girl child.

  10. Well, wusakile fans should just accept tha reality. We all do remember the days when Nkana used to shine.Nevertheless,we have to understand that those good old days are gone and the club together with the funs and well-wishers need to everything possible to try to bring them back. It’s just unfortunate that the behavour of the funs at “Sckrivina” stadium cannot help realise that and leaves alot to be desired.

  11. Abash FAZ
    Abash Poor Officiating
FAZ you are accomplises in crime! This is unacceptable.

Holiganism is certainly not the way forward BUT it has its causes. In this particular case, the match official denied Nkana a clear goal.

What does FAZ have do say about this? Give all the 3 points to Kalewa? My Foot!!

  12. I can see we still have a long way to go before things improve. However, hats off to FAZ. In Europe, crowd trouble is punished ruthlessly and clubs are responsible for preventing or controlling crowd trouble. So if Kalampa think think they can get away with it, then they must be joking. The only thing Kalampa can do now is to appeal so that they can get a decision in their favour (Faz, please do not allow them to play at Scrivina this season so they learn their lesson), maybe so they can start their Premiership campaign at Scrivina. But for now , they should play probably in Kabwe(like someone suggested) so that all the Wusakile hooligans can’t make the trips.

  13. Closing Nkana stadium is just plain stupid. You have a team crawling on it’s knees financially and FAZ should close their stadium. Why can’t FAZ simply impose a heavy penalty to deter these hooligans? I am a die hard Nkana supporter and such stupid decisions are just what make me think twice about the calibre of leaders we have in Zambia, be it in government or otherwise. Think ba FAZ before you come up with such childish resolutions. Alternatively, let Nkana play their home games behind closed doors for 6 months so the hooligans can learn. There are so many ways of cutting a tree, but the way FAZ has chosen to,is utterly stupid.

  14. Hooliganism should never be condoned by any right thinking person, however the ban is rather to long and very harsh in my view.

  15. I think the punishment is too harsh. While Nkana deserve to be punished for the behaviour of their fans, this should not be to cripple the team. They could have imposed a ban for fans not to attend some matches and institute some corrective measures such as the team reinforce its security arrangements before any matches take place paChilata. This year long ban will cripple the team which terribly needs the gate takings.

  16. #3 Justice,
I now that you are very knowledgeable about Zambian football and you have a keen interest in the developoment of the game.

However you reaction is high handed and extreme.
You should know that the social economic climate of the residential area (Wusakili)has not improved instead it has worsened. This is where the Nkana supporters come from. Their behavior is volatile and the need to be kept on leash all the time.

In the days of ZCCM the fans behavior was the same but was always kept in chech by mine police with their police dogs. This is no longer possible..

The punishment by FAZ is exaggerated the best is for Nkana to play without fans for the reminder of the season.
