MMD go for National Assembly to adopt Constitution

Share

The ruling MMD in Mufulira district has maintained that the Mungomba Constitution should be adopted by Parliament and not a Constituent Assembly as suggested by some sections of society.

This is because the constituent assembly could cost huge sums of money that could
instead be channeled to the implementation of economic development programmes.

The MMD has also maintained that adopting the constitution through the constituent
assembly would only demean and undermine parliament which is the only legitimate
body put in place to make laws.

MMD Mufulira District Secretary, Joseph Chikombola, said this in a walk in interview
with the Zambia News and Information Services in Mufulira today.

And the MMD has suggested that the K205 billion set aside for the constitutional
making process in this year’s budget should be channeled towards national
development ventures.

The party says the money involved was too much and would only end up benefiting a
few individuals who will draw per diem at the expense of suffering Zambians.

And the ruling MMD in Mufulira has taken a swipe at the Catholic Church whom they
have accused of misleading the people on the entire constitutional making process.

Mr. Chikombola added that the church has of late been posting pastoral letters on
the constitution making process, to its members in various communities.

Mr. Chikobola has since appealed the clergy in the largest Christian grouping to
desist from talking about the constitution and rather concentrate their efforts on
propagating the works of God.

He added that politics and matters surrounding the constitution should be left to
politicians alone adding that the clergy should not gain political mileage by
speaking on the constitution without firstly consulting their members.

  1. Mr. Chikombola, the issue of constitution concerns every citizen and our spiritual leader have heavenly authority to guide, teach and instruct us in our day to day life align with the biblical standards. I do NOT think you have the right to dictate what you want clergy men to say. They have to talk more on issue that are affecting us today and near future and the constitution is one of them. You are the some people who were saying that the clergy men are not talking about HIV & AIDS, and now when it comes to a constitution you want them to be quite. BUBEPELEFYE BAKAMBA. BE REAL.

THE MATTER HERE IS THAT BOTH POLITICIAN & CLERGY HAVE SOME CLIENTS, US THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA.

  2. Here is cheap way of politicing, chikombola’ statement comes soon after Mulongoti’s visit to mining town of mufurila. Many people think this matter is for a paticular political, like MMD no mwe bantu. The matter of constitution is a national matter, which must be dealt by all national loving citizens, not people like chikombola. mind you the you got is short lived. But the constitution is long lived affecting everyone in the nation.

  3. Iwe Ichikombola you know nothing, u came maulding injelwa and you want to dictate to zambian pipo. We will have CA and thats final, whether u or Chuchu wants we have it and fast, at all costs. The constitution we want is for us, our children and our children’s children, not for u bootlickers. Just because u are in Muwelewele Mad Devil party and u want to be loyal and agree with whatever Chuchu says, waitaya iwe block maulding tool. And you Muwelewele Mad Devil party in Mufulira leave our mother and universal church alone, it is doing a commendable work for the pipo in all corners of the nation. It is cheap politics stricking at the church without any base.

  4. Mr. Chikombola is an *****, leave political decisions to politicians? That is like hiring a starving Dog to guard your pot of cooked Chicken!! Look the mess politicians have landed us in. How many constitutions have been adopted through parliament and 40 years on we are still debating the basics that a great nation can be built on. All because we trusted politicians. Sorry LPM worshiper , not this time around. We have had it. It’s time to try something different. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. That does not work.

Catholics, get involved , all the churches get involved and all Zambians get involved. These failures in parliament will never do anything for this country after all the constitution that brought them in was flawed , all they will think of is keeping the status quo..gratuity and $53 000 car loan

  5. IT IS UNFORTUNATELY THAT THE HEAD OF THE STATE IS IN FOREFRONT CONTRADICTING WHAT WE PEOPLE WANT AS THE RESULT THE WHOLE MMD IS AGAINST THE WISHES OF THE PEOPLE ON THE MATTER OF CONSTITUTION.

SOON AFTER ELECTION LAST YEAR IN SEPTEMBER, HIS EXCELLENCE LEVY PATRICK MWANAWASA ‘PROMISED’ THAT HE WILL DO WHAT PEOPLE WANT, BUT INSTEAD THEY ARE DOING OTHERWISE. IS MMD THE GOVT OF ITS WORD???????

  6. Since people don`t have faith in levy” Since u are
waithing 4 sata to be in plot 1 why not wait
    & stop making a fuss of it.You don`t trus him don`t
have any thing to do with him.

  8. iyee chikombola caonauka !!! nacilatama ama-blocks nomba it got damaged. anyway chuchu will repair it.

  9. Don’t waste people’s time publishing comments from illiterates like Chikombola whatever his name means. There are more important personalities we can read about.

  10. Whether it will cost trillions of Kwacha,I would rather it is adopted by a CA for the simple reason of transparency and accountability. We would have adopted a document that will stand the test of time at an appropriate cost.It is better to spend so much now on this document and reap the fruits in future if we are to make our nation great. We,the people of Zambia, are ready to sacrifice that amount of money now so that we do not have Constitution reviews every time we have a new clown in Plot 1.This issue is now becoming redundant and irritating. From past experience, government has left out major recommendations in the constitution which would have served the country better.Once beaten twice shy.Why should money be an issue when it is not an issue to effect huge increases in mid-term gratuities for under-performing MPs,extending car loans to them, and buying expensive sweeper/escort vehicles for LPM.This is a country whose education sector has crumbled and hospitals dilapidated.Great shame

  11. The constitution of our beloved nation shall not be adopted in the manner ignoramuses like Chikombola think. The CA will adopt the grundnorm of our nation
period. While some of u wait 4 Sata to go to plot 1,
ifwe we are waiting for HH to be sworn as President of
    zed in the next election.

  12. #10 KC good talking, pls tell this Chuchu boy for once to listern to his masters, its only thro CA that constitution will stand a test of time and will be respected by all Zedian and in the long run benefit all of us and the future Zed.

  13. twanaka please.just let the people’s will take course.what about the amount of oney being spent on london and south africa hospital bills, mp gratuities, fake nflated procurement scams in the public sector, unecessary trips where people just go shopping, drinking and eating and staying in hotels with gold plated taps. be reasonable and who said a clergyman cannot comment on politics kabelenge the bible on what used to happen in the roman empire.even the ten commandments wc were laws were actually talked abt by jesus.so who does this guy think he is.and this is a democratic society mind you free speech. u do not even know what is in the same weak constitution that you are trying to protect. read part 3 and dont expose your ignorance. constituent assembly whether you like it or not we shal abide by.

  14. Sorry, wrong or right place, i need help. What is the difference between Constituency Assembly propagated by the Oasis forum and the Referendum being propagetd by the government. The dabate seems to here and we are getting a lot of noise but sadly for me and probabaly a good number of Zambians do not seem to understand. Added to this ,is the most quoted article 79. Pliz could someone out there help. In case no one helps, pliz mr. editor put up something to help so that i can join the debate. Pliz help ,Thanx.

  15. Chikombola dont easily forget that it is the same Catholic that made it posible for one party state to multi- party thru vigorous campaigns in Inchengelo and Fr lumberto was deported by KKs’ govt for speaking out. If you have gotten, the hour has come again LMP will be defeated and ashamed as KK and FTJ. Whn pipo want change learn.
