The CHURCHES ASSOCIATION OF ZAMBIA  (CHAZ) has been applauded for
it’s continued support in fighting HIV/AIDS amongst youths.

Acting Monze District Commissioner, Mathias Fundi, said it was gratifying to note
that CHAZ in Zambia had continued supporting youths under the project of multisectoral behavioural change campign using it’s global fund.

Mr.Fundi was speaking during a running for life programme held at the catholic
diocease of Monze today for youths from various districts in southern province including
Siavonga,Choma,Kalomo,Mazabuka and Monze.

He said the programe was an HIV/AIDS project targeting youths between the ages of 12
and 19 years.

Mr Fundi said that it was important that the CHAZ global funds were spent on
prevention of new HIV infections in order to conquer the pandemic.

The acting DC said youths were the leaders of tomorrow that  needed to be protected
from indulging in evil vices that would make them vulnerable to contracting the HIV virus.

And Catholic diocease of Monze Vica General, Father Sebestian Milimo, said at the
same occassion that the programe was an educational one aimed at teaching youths through sport about HIV/AIDS,Malaria and T.B that had been the major health problems in Zambia.

The Vica General explained that youths form clubs and trained twice in a week for a
period of six months under the same programe before meeting for final competitions.

Father Milimo said this year there were seven clubs with two in Chivuna, two in
Chirundu, four in Monze, two in Pemba, two in Kasiya and two in Kalomo.

He said that after training, the youths were given peer talks and once every month
they could meet for health talks where they discussed the three major diseases which are HIV/AIDS, Malaria and T.B.

He added that after six months all the clubs met for a final competition of running
for life whose aim was to
assess what they had been doing and learning during the period.

Father Milimo also thanked CHAZ for the financial support rendered to Monze diocese
as a receipiant and CELIM-Italian Volunteers for the technical support.
