Youth, Sport and Child Development Deputy Minister, Angela Chifire, says modelling is one form of self -employment in Zambia which has potential to create wealth.

Miss Chifire says  modelling celebrities have an effective role in human capital formation out for vulnerable and less privileged sections of communities by building capacities of their target groups to participate in national development activities and cope with their challenges.

Miss Chifire said this when she crowned the” Miss Youth Zambia 2007″, Chama Mulubwa of Kasisi Girls High school in Chongwe, who emerged winner of the competition held at Mulungushi International Conference Centre on Friday night.

She challenged the 15 final participants in the contest  as role  to be partners in
the provision of services, knowledge and information to the less privileged in their
local communities.

The minister also encouraged the youth to guard one another against perpetrators of
evils like child abuse and people likely to encourage HIV/AIDS infections and help
their   orphaned friends.

She reminded the youth to join the other groups in pursuit of improved living
conditions for the less privileged in society, saying the nation was witnessing an
increase of child headed households.

Miss Chifire commended “My Choice” led by Ms Kina Robertshaw and other companies
that contributed to the hosting of the competition, saying the department of Youth
Development alone in Lusaka Province which initiated the idea, could not have
managed to put up such a show..

She appealed to other cooperating partners like the Commonwealth Youth programme to help the ministry take the initiative to higher level to give it a national face.

Miss Chifire urged the contestants to remain ambassadors of peace and development in
their various communities and commended them for taking up the challenge.
.
Earlier, Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary, Susan Sikaneta, also saluted Ms
Robertshaw for  assisting the Department of Youth  in the province with financial
resources to organize the event  and encouraged her to  continue contributing to the
welfare of young people.

Ms Sikaneta also advised the contestants to continue working hard to develop their
talents, saying modelling today was a highly paying field.

She stated that her office will  remain supportive of the contest programme to
ensure that it improves.

Ms Sikaneta also crowned Miss Personality for Miss Youth Zambia, Ngosa Chela, the
Second Princes, Mainza Mwanga and the First Princes, Loginia Banda.
