AMERICAN First Lady, Laura Bush, who was expected in Zambia last evening for a one-day visit will tour various projects under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
According to a statement released in Lusaka yesterday, Mrs Bush was expected to visit schools and water projects with emphasis on ensuring that clean drinking water was provided.
Mrs Bush, who is on a tour of Zambia, Mali, Senegal and Mozambique, would focus on how the United States could assist fight HIV/AIDS in Africa.
“I am looking forward to the Play Pump that we’ll see in Zambia, this children’s merry-go-round that are put mainly in schools where they have a well and clean water. Part of the money that goes to putting in Play Pump includes making sure testing water so that their well is safe,†she said.
She said she was hopeful the US Congress would support the two programmes.
Mrs Bush would also pay a courtesy call on Zambian First Lady, Maureen Mwanawasa, at State House.
Last month, President George W Bush called on Congress to authorise an additional $30 billion to fight AIDS in Africa, a figure that would double the US commitment to the continent.

I like the stance taken by the American 1st Lady but she should shed more light on the ALLEGED cure of HIV/AIDS which her country is supposedly hiding from us POOR AFRICANS otherwise their (USA) efforts/donations are meaningless if the ALLEGATIONS are true
