New born Town to boost Sinazongwe economic potential

Sinazongwe District Commissioner (DC) has said the planned development of Siansowa area into new a Township would help to boost the economic activities in the district.

Mr. Lavain Apuleni said the council has already done all the ground work of acquiring the land that would be given to people wanting to build houses and there would be commercial plots to give to people wanting to venture into business.

He said government would also consider building offices to accommodate the immigration officers, the officers to issue National Registration Cards (NRC), and other government departments.

Sinazongwe would be one the area in the country to set a trend that the local authority could initiate the creation of a new township the DC said.

The DC disclosed that Johnan Jordan one of the prominent investor who owns the crocodile farm in Siansowa has pledged to give house loans to his workers to build 70 houses.
He said the council would provide the road network before issuing plots to be sold to people wanting houses.
Sinazongwe district Council Planner Siamwiinga Siabbalo, said the council has acquired 33 hectors of land from the headmen in Senior Chief Mweemba area.

Mr. Siabbbalo said Senior Chief Mweemba and the local authority has already endorsed to the setting up the Siansowa.

He explained that the council was waiting for the Permanent Secretary Darious Hakayobe to append his signature to the proposal.

The District planner said money has already been sourced for surveying of the land before the local Authority could start issuing plots to the people wanting to build house.

He said the township would have commercial plots police post, a mobile bank, market place, and recreation facilities.

The district planner disclosed that the council had only one problem with a named village headman who rejected to the idea of developing siansowa area into a township while the 10 headmen accepted.

He said the council would also carryout a regional profile of the township to highlight the main economic activities of the Siansowa town to would be investors.
He named potential areas such as tourism, crocodile farming, fishing, and the planned setting up of the boarder post in Namafulo area at the boarder with Zimbabwe.

  1. This is a good idea, before giving plots please put in place, roads, water and sewege systems. No mad built houses please!!!!. Twalumba pa magani aaya!!

  3. We hope the council and it’s planners will plan for a town that will be a module to other towns and even to cities nationwide. We need standadised houses houses of different types. We need made up or tarred roads with electricity and running water in place before building starts. We alos need good public amenities like parks and sporting facilities. On a sticter note, we need the town to be a no go zone for shanty houses. Shame on Lusaka for it’s poor planning.
