FRIDAY FOOTBALL WRAP-UP

Share

It will be a modest weekend in terms of sporting activity this weekend.

This is because the entire Faz football league will starting this weekend take a three-week midseason break from July 7 to 22.

The Faz Premier League will not be in action from this weekend and return to action on July 20 with Week 20 games.

The Faz division 1 and the other lower divisions will play their last matches before the close of the mid-season on July 8 and will resume action on the 29th with Week 23 games taking place.

However, all teams involved in preliminary round of Mosi Cup action from the amateur to division 3 and 2, will have to fulfill their fixtures during this period.

Meanwhile, the Zambia Under-20 play their final Group B match at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup this Saturday evening at 20:15 Zambian time at Victoria, British Columbia in Canada when they face 2nd placed Uruguay.

A win by 2-0 for Zambia will be enough to see them through to the last 16 of the tournament.

But a 1-0 victory, a draw or a narrow defeat could still see Zambia through as one of three best third placed sides in the six-group competition depending on the results of last group games on July 8.

16 teams, the group winners and runners up including the best three 3rd placed teams, go through to the pre-quarterfinal stage of the competition that take place on July 11 and 12.

And the Zambia Under-23 team is in Algeria ahead of their participation in the All Africa Games football tournament.

The Under-23 kickoff their campaign in Group B with their opening match against Guinea on July 10 in Kolea and later take on Egypt three days later before wrapping up their pool fixtures against hosts Algeria on the 16 th.

The All Africa Games semifinals will be played on July 19 with the Boumerdes and Blida while the final will take place in Algiers on July 23.
Boumerdes will host the 3rd and 4th place playoff on the same date as the final.

  1. Copper Bullets gun for Uruguay

Clifford Mulenga and his Zambian team-mates are confident they can beat Uruguay in their final Group B encounter in Victoria this Saturday. That said, the African side know they will be up against a Charrúa team with four points already in the bag and ambitions of their own to pip Spain to top spot in the group. With so many different permutations still possible in Group B, the final picture will only be clear after the results and goals have been tallied tomorrow evening.

    The game
Uruguay vs. Zambia, Victoria, 7 July, 14.15 (local time)

    The stakes

With the arrival of Clifford Mulenga in Canada, Zambia have become an unquestionably more cohesive and formidable unit. The creative midfielder linked up extremely well with Sebastian Mwansa against Spain on Wednesday, with the resulting moves keeping the European champions on the ropes in the latter stages of the game. The return of striker Rogers Kola will also be of concern to Uruguay.(Fifa)

  2. Itss half time and Zambia is leading Uraguay 1-0 courtesy of Clifford Mulenga Penualty in the 22 min. Both Teams are ddown to 10 men.

  3. FK just the 2 of us, where are these guys whoZ cleaim to Zed fans. anyway chawama, next stop World cup 2010 in SA

  4. CONGRATULATIONS ZAMBIA………Finally we`ve got something to cheer about on the world stage. That was a classic display and I hope the scouts are watching.Europe watch out coz Zambian players are coming.Awe bane naunfwa bwino…zolili!!!!!!

  5. Well done Young Chipolopolo!! The team has done the nation proud. People shouldn’t be too quick to pull down any Zambian. The team have already proven their worth on the African stage plus their European tour, so I was confident they would focus and get a result. Judging by the standard of play, I believe the future of Zambian football is in good hands. Lets hope these kids remain disciplined and aim for the sky. Bring on Nigeria or Japan!!

  6. This achievement is only second to the 1988 olympics where we reached the semi-final. Again it feels nice to be Zambian.

Go boys go. Beat Nigeria and the world will be aware of our immense talent.

Good luck for thursday’s game against Nigeria.

  7. I would probably agree about the 1988 Olympics, especially to have beaten Italy 4-0. That was a great team, and unforunately Zambia did not benefit from their presence into the 90s due to the crash. Hopefully this team will take Zambian football to new heights. Even the Olympic team may be making a return with some of these boys beefing up the squad.
