Kansanshi miners’ strike saddens Levy

Share

President Levy Mwanawasa has expressed sadness over the strike by unionised workers at Kansanshi mine in Solwezi in the North Western Province.

The President expressed the sadness today at Solwezi Airport on arrival from Lusaka
this morning on his way to Lumwana mine.

Mr. Mwanawasa, however noted that, for many years, Northwestern Province had been
called a Cinderella Province and the same workers on strike had no employment and
wondered what will happen to them and their families if Kansanshi mine closes down.

He said resorting to strike action would not solve anything but distortion of the
mining company.

He said he would wanted to visit Kansanshi mine but this time he could not go there
when workers have withdrawn labour.

The President said he would only visit Lumwana Mine to inspect progress there and
encourage the management to continue with their plans and work.

The strike action at Kansanshi Mine started on 11/07/2007 when workers strated
demanding to be paid their 25 percent wage increase.

  1. But should the ba zungu’s whites still take Zambia
like during walesike days . People of Northwestern it time you woke up and say no to this things. No money should came to Lusaka, all the money for the mine. Some of your MP’s are alet down, there just here in Lusaka talking too much Tatamashi and others are selling the province. That’s why the chaps came to our province thing twalishishita sana. Go to the provinces the chief will get some % from the money. Our chief’s look like street kids in Lufwanyama

  2. PLM should not behave like the PRO for the mining companies that are exploiting workers and Zambia as a whole.Strike action is legitimate way of expressing dissatisfaction and no mine I know has ever closed because of a one day strike. These mining companies are making a fortune and workers just need a reasonable return for their sweat. They don’t need to be threatened by Levy who is living unbelievably well

  3. #1 Cyber-USA, mwaice wimbala plz. What made you to equate me to LPM?. Ine akanua takambedama elo cisabushya amate pakulanda kwati ni LPM te? Plus I don’t sweat like fish and smell like tuna kwati in chuchu te?

Cyber-USA, kulandafya ati ulefwaya inkabe mulamu obe so that you can have access to free transport pa interz te?

WHY DO WORKERS GO ON STRIKE?
    1. bad working conditions,
    2. no motivation,
    3. union for workers is chaired by *****s who mislead fellow workers,
    4. lack of incentive
    5. the stipulated regulations for employees are not followed by emplowers,
    6. employees become greedy,
    7. chuchu becomes insensitive,

RUFQUA state that “let strikes be the thing of the past and just call it a quit if you can’t agree with the terms of working conditions that change from time to time”.

  4. Land #2, your analysis is a big disappointment. For you it would be nice to divide zambia, Northwesterners should do bla bla bla. Surely, you must be ashamed!

  5. #6 ok mulamu Cyber, good nite, nomba naya ku mutedzima ku sochabe mukunua. Be in charge mulamu Cyber and work with Easy.
