200,000 cattle vaccinated against CBPP in Western Province

 Over 200,000 herds of cattle have been vaccinated against the Contagious Bovine Plural Pneumonia (CBPP) in Western Province in the ongoing vaccination exercise.

And Western Province Veterinary Officer Dr. Naphy Banda has said the construction of
the cordon line along the border with Angola has reached an advanced stage.

Dr Banda told  said over  70 per cent of the work on the erection of the 435km has
been done so far.

Dr. Banda told ZANIS in Mongu today his  the Veterinary Department embarked on
cattle vaccination exercise in the Province in April this year and that so far
201,137 animals have been vaccinated against the deadly CBPP.

Dr. Banda said the targeted number is 400,000 cattle out of a population of 450,000
cattle in the province.

He commended the farmers for their overwhelming response to the vaccination exercise
adding that there has been no reports of cattle dying from the disease since May.

He said the exercise that started in April is expected to be completed by the end of
August this year.

Dr. Banda added that the cordon line under construction will be extended up to
Kalomo in Southern province.
