Rennes and Hertha target Mayuka

Kabwe Warriors Zambia Under-20 striker Emmanuel Mayuka has received two offers to attend trials from a France Ligue One and Germany Bundesliga team.

The clubs interested in looking at Mayuka are French Ligue one team Stade Rennes and German Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin.

“Yes I can confirm we have received two offers for Mayuka one from France and the other from Germany,” said Warriors club secretary Hayden Dingwall today.

Dingwall went on to say that it was now up to the player to select which one of the two teams he wanted to attend trials at.

“Basically it is now up to the player (Mayuka),” Dingwall said. “It will be his decision as to where he wants to go for trials.”

Mayuka was a key member of the Zambia Under-20 national soccer team at the just ended FIFA Under-20 World Cup that was held in Canada last month.

Mayuka played in all of Zambia’s four games at the tournament but did not score any of those games.

However, Mayuka’s assists in the games against Jordan, Uruguay and Nigeria were crucial in the goals scored by Zambia at the tournament.

This will be the second time the two clubs have been associated with Zambian players.
Rennes had previously courted strikers Collins Mbesuma and Jacob Mulenga where the duo had unsuccessful trials in December 2004.

Hertha had in 2000 courted midfielder Emmanuel Zulu but the player failed to travel for trials that were organized by his then manager Nenani Banda.

16-year-old Mayuka is currently Warriors top scorer with 8 goals in all competition this season.

  1. Mayuka should make a plan that will see him attend trials at both clubs, that is all. Germany can be good for him. I saw him play and I have no doubt that he has the guts to make it in Europe. Anyone with a phone number to Kabwe Warriors FC, so that I can give some advise to the boy. And he is only 16 years that looks promising

  2. I believe the Bundesliga will be too much for the boy to start with. France has a reputation of developing raw talent and its for this reason that i would advice the youngman to go to France. All these West Africans enjoying their games in England started from France.
    Go Mayuka go!!

  3. Mayuka is not 16. I don’t have documentary evidence, but it is clear that the lad is not as young as he claims, and we know that age manipulation is rife in African soccer. Lying in youth football must stop.

For example: I’m twenty one years of age myself, I have a friend who I grew up with who is one year my junior. The funny thing is, his passport indicates his date of birth as 1991, making him ’16’. He is currently undergoing trials for Bidvest Wits FC here in Jo’burg. I think, and I have told my friend as much, that this age thing will be to his detriment in future. And to all Zambians aspiring for a career in professional football. STOP THE ROT

  4. hehee….i hear you Nkandu……..i dont think hes 16 either just from the way he looks…..just like Obafemi Martins, thers no way on earth he claims to be that young.

  5. ITS GOOD THAT OFFERS ARE TRICKLING IN FOR OUR YOUNG PLAYERS. THESE ARE THE PLAYERS WE ARE GOING TO RELY ON COME 2010 WORLD CUP. I THINK EMMANUEL SHOULD GO TO FRANCE, WHICH IS A GOOD SPRINGBOARD FOR AFRICAN PLYERS. IN GERMANY HE MAY STRUGGLE JUST LIKE THE VANGUISHED ANDREW SINKALA AND SICHONE WHO INSTEAD OF PLAYING IN THE BUNDESLIGA, THEY ARE CAMPAIGNING IN THE LOWER DIVISION – 2 OR 3. COME ON GUYS. WHAT IS THE LATEST ON RAINFORD? WE DON’T WANT A SITUATION OF 1999 WHERE THE KAMPAMPAS, NSOFWAS, SINKALAS, ZULUS GOT OPPORTUNITIES TO PLAY OVERSEAS AND THEN THEY FINISH WITHIN 2 YEARS. WA
TCH OUT ZAMBIAN PLAYERS OTHERWISE, IF NOT CAREFUL, WE SHALL NEVER HAVE ANOTHERE ZAMBIAN AMONG THE TOP TEN IN AFRICA, IN THE NEXT 20 YEARS ITS A SHAME TO THE ZAMBIAN GAME.

  6. Daniel Nkotashi ,zambia emma must join english premier league side reading he is capable of doing anything which others are doing like didier drogba.I am very pround of the zam under 20 team . It is high time we started watching our players playing for international clubs in europe.

  7. GB: Ghanas Toni Yebuwa, played in the lower division before heading to E. Frankfurt. Sichone and Sinkala are just not as talented as we thought. France is a problem. They get very special young African players who they know will play for France. Just look at the French National team, it is an African Select side. And just why is Jacob Mulenga not in England by now??? He is in the French lower division (div1). Stop all this France thing, players must go where they can progress
