Govt sounds repeated warning against Contractors

Share

Government has warned that it will not tolerate Road Contractors in the habit of doing shoddy work when awarded contracts.

Ndola District Commissioner (DC), Gladys Kristafor said this when she conducted an
on-the-spot-check of road projects in Ndola yesterday.

Mrs Kristafor expressed disappointment with works put up by Turner Contractors on
nine roads that it was tendered to work on..

The District Commissioner said it was wrong for contractors to waste Governments’
time and money and threatened that legal action could be taken against the company
adding that such operations amounted to breach of contracts.

The visibly disappointed DC said Turner Contractors had been offered a contract of
over K6 billion and that it was supposed to have been executed from May to
September this year.

She said rehabilitation works on Kalewa road had delayed and wondered why  the
project had taken long taken.

And Turner Contractor site agent, Terry Chileshe told the DC that the lack of cement
in the district had slowed the works.

Mr Chileshe promised the DC, that in a week’s time some change would be made.

Among the roads that are supposed to be worked on are Matelo road, Livingstone
road, Vitanda road, Makoli road, Macha.

  1. The problem starts with you Govt. When awarding these contracts, there is corruption (nchekeleko) or look for your brothers and sisters and form a construction company. I’ve seen such companies and they a many. Sometimes for cheaper companies. Cheap is always expensive. Look for credible contractors.

  2. Just give the work to the Chinese. They did a wonderful road to my shanty compound in record time after the local contractors kept ripping us off for 13 years , yes 13 solid yes. The road still looks solid after 3 years and driving home to see my compound boys is a breeze. ViVA China

ZAMBIA HAS REACHED A POINT WHERE ITS CITIZENS ARE TIRED OF DIRTY, OPPORTUNISTIC, CORRUPTIBLE, GENERATIONAL FAILURES, FLY-BY-NIGHT CAREERIST POLITICIANS.
It is time for political grandees to be grandees, and political vampires and scavengers of matchets to stop thinking of bleeding Zambia to death. Politics is not the same thing as royalty where people stay in power until death does them apart. Zambia is not a 21st century recycle bin or a dysfunctional political archive full of useless divisive ideas and outdated politicians of 90 days miracles. Its time we consigned all useless, power hungry, political mindless midgets and hobbits to the dust bin of history, that should include those paid up NGOs keen on exploiting people’s misery and not acting in the interest of the people of Zambia. We support freedom of speech and responsible civic advocacy but not on the expense of selling your soul and country for a daily flictional rhetoric or fame on conscipiracy platforms.
Lets thank patriots for they have done Zambia some element of service and carried their job responsibilities with some success. Its time for patriotic, selfless and vibrant leaders who have the vision, integrity, absolute love and loyalty for Zambia to be supported in realising the national destiny. Just try to close your eyes for a few minutes and if you have an ounce of ‘Zambianess’ you will hear the words coming from all the ten provinces ‘enough is enough’ for opportunists. Let us put this into perspective it is difficult for an old dog to learn new tricks and for a new dog to learn old tricks.

Good food for your mind and national choice!

  4. LIVINGSTONE HAS RUN OUT OF LAND FOR INVESTMENT

LIVINGSTONE Town Clerk George Kalenga says Livingstone City Council cannot cope with the ever-increasing demand for land for investment in the tourist capital.Mr Kalenga said the local authority was finding it difficult to offer land to investors because most of the land in the tourist capital belongs to private individuals. He disclosed to ZANIS in an interview that recently an investor intending to put up a shopping mall in Livingstone and five hundred houses has failed to secure land for the proposed huge investment.Mr Kalenga however said talks were currently underway within the council to see how the investor could be assisted. And sources within the council told ZANIS that there was currently no land in Livingstone that could accommodate the proposed structures by the investor unless and until land in the Dambwa forestry was degazzeted

  5. Zambia has potential to develop if our leaders and most zedian had will to cut off these stinking thieves and corrupt bastards like chitoba and a number of shoddy and contractors.

  6. #5 Iwe Patriot why bring old news on the blog? We aware of this since enternity. Afterall there is plenty of land unless your council want to continue building on the center.Aug. Zanis -The Church in Ndola has brainstormed and settled for a zero tolerance to divorce for the church members and the leadership. The collection of pastors and church leaders who converged at Ndola Baptist Church hall for a fellowship meeting exchanged ideas and referred to the biblical writings before agreeing and settling for a zero tolerance for divorce as God’s original plan. They said divorce has never been part of God’s original plan but due to man’s hard hearts, the divorce concept was introduced, which God declared hatred for. They said all those who divorced and married again have sinned before God because God’s word stated that if one separated from the spouse should remain single until one spouse dies. The pastors resolved that it did not matter who the ….

  7. ctd… the culprits of divorce were as long as it was wrong before God, they stood to be judged by the righteous law of God which was plain and clear for all to interpret. The pastors wondered why there has been too much tolerance for divorce and unwarranted silence on the culprits including some clergy who needed to go on the bench until they made their stand right before God.

  8. What`s the relationship between LPM and this sacred cow by the name of CHITOBA?All of a sudden the most vocal LPM is MUTE over this crusade against corruption. This DEMAGOGUE seems to be messing with our system in broad day light by demoting and transfering key witnesses in this investigation.LPM sympathisers,is LPM still waiting for a report on this scandal or his hands are now tied because of NEPOTISM.What`s happened to ZERO TOLERANCE TO CORRUPTION?

  9. #9 Chapi your friends in China who are serious of fighting corruption gave all civil servants and government to declare their stand on corruption or they face proscution. As today 1800 have admitted their corrupted practices. The president Hu Jaun will take action next week by firing them. Nomba imwe you are just doing he opposed. Or is it the fear of the colapse of governance if the untouchables are touched.

  10. Easy,
The report in # 5 irrespective of its age is meant to show case that things are on the move. Per # 4, all you need to do is enlighten anyone wasting his time spinning for Vampires ever fantasying voters with impractical 90 days developmental promises. When others are on course, all they dream is anarchy and PHD (Pull Him Down). Such scavengers with machetes on dissent must be denounced and pushed into the archive.

  11. #9 LPM did not wait for a report for him to fire Nyrongo. He fired Nyrongo for instituting an investigation. Chitoba should have been put on forced leave to facilitate an impatial investigation. Chitoba’s days at DEC are numbered. The best thing he can do is start prepering his farm house because he is done. in bemba we say Uwikala munganda ya fyani tangala namulilo. Chitoba should have known better. If your job is law enforcement at the highest level your life is always under the microscope. You know what? Sometimes its hard to understand Zedians. How do you jeopedize such a lucrative job for pocket change. You hear Mtine has been arrested for K110M. Does these guys know anything about risk management.

  12. A Public forum can be an audience of people I would call assemblies of different backgrounds and capabilities. It’s not a fora of absolute uniformity that the challenged only exist. Anything posted herein is not for every body to absolutely synthesize but one or two that are better vested to do so. In the same vein, no right minded person worth his maturity, character, or clarity of mind would think debaters post with intent of making some impression. Impression to an online community the poster interacts with in debates only? Such self demeaning thinking is a sign of some acrimonious insanity right there. It calls for sympathy than disputation beyond these remarks. There are many commercial platforms that call for impressive contribution in commensurate with some extravagant intrinsic value they offer and not some voluntary driven blogging sites as LT. As free minded Debaters we are here just to support our brother’s initiative by adding a sense of diversity in views. So baba you have some work to do with your stunning mental gaps.

  13. Sage(14),risk management:the process concerned with the identification, measurement, control, and minimization of security risk to a level commensurate with the value of the assets protected.

Please relate this to your contribution in 14, so that we may further understand your pattern of thought.

  14. 16# TOP Maybe much better for SAGE he should have give Chibota the Value at Risk. The man has not realised how much bags are involved in the risk explodes. His portfolio as chief of DEC can vanish within one day.Mr. Chibota must have thought of aims risk management which could have reduced different risks to the level accepted by Zambians. How can you appoint your own son to a senior position during probation period this is a worst corrupted case in Zambia even worsen than what FTJ did to us all.

  15. Chapi, the answer is yes LPM is being selective , and he is being an ***** for doing so. I cant wait for his immunity to be removed if he continues in this path.
We Zambians rule and Mwanawasa is going to pay for ignoring the desire of Zambian buyantanshi.

  16. Corruption increases in Zambia
The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) says reports of corruption are on the increase.

Acting director for Prevention, Festus Chipungu says the commission is now receiving more serious reports of corruption than was the case in the past years.

Mr. Chipungu reiterated that the commission is determined to eradicate the vice.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chipungu said the ACC has not yet started receiving corruption reports from integrity committees that were recently established in various institutions.

He was optimistic that the establishment of such committees will contribute greatly to efforts aimed at fighting corruption.

  17. Gentlemen, what do you really expect from a “chap” who vehemently refused to surrender illegally obtained UNZA Land, flocked State House to collect bundles of cash for his campains, tried to shield Bulaya from prosecution,is numb about Dr. Miti (P/S Health),holding on to 150 vehicles said to have been purchased from stolen funds, cannot account for how he paid off his FRA loan for K250m etc etc. Come on, folks, it is all to hoodwink you. What zero tolerance for corruption?Just concentrate on building yourselves through ingenuity, personal growth and enhancement.

  18. PERSONAL TO THE LT ADMIN STAFF

For not heeding to the counsel of the wise and the experienced, you have indeed killed this medium of open discussions. It had the potential and value, but your passive leadership has evidently initiated some fierce acts leaving the privacy of debaters compromised. Impersonations, insults on debater, public officials and such illegal acts void of tolerance have been increasing condoned in your eyes. Now it’s no secret that the LT server data base has been compromised beyond exception. The million dollar question is; why Zambian blogs don’t serve the purpose long enough with decency, tolerance and responsibility? Think Tank and Zambia Online forums died the same way LT is sinking right in the face of all the free advice you have received. Shame to us all for the inaction!
