-Zanaco have appointed senior players Kelvin Kaindu and captain Numba Mumamba as interim coaches at the struggling defending league champions following the sacking of head coach Fighton Simukonda and his assistant Weston Mumba on Monday.
.
Mumamba and Kaindu will be in charge of Zanaco on Wednesday when the team faces relegation troubled Zamtel at Musa Kasonka in a Week 22 fixture.

  1. This is what we need if soocer standards in Zambia are to be revitalised. Hats off to Barclays Bank of Zambia. I hope other private firms can take a leaf from Barclays. However other sports activities like rugby, cricket etc, should be supported as well.

  2. Bravo Barclays! These are corporations we need in Zambia – ready to plough back into the community in a substantial way, not some of these penny pinchers we have. They realise billions in profits but do not see it fit to help in community development.

  3. The Barclays Bank sponsorship is very welsome and a very good development. But what is the real benefit to the teams? K90million is nothing given the players allowances/bonus and the camping costs? Barclays Bank has to revisit and increase the prize money for the competition to be meaningful!

  4. thats the problem with u zambians living abroad. just shutup and continue with the cleaning u do mu america ba number 7. barclays has done a great job.

  5. Good gesture from Baclays. #7 this may be reviewed from time to time meanwhile MANY THANKS. Mopani Copper Mines wake up and lets eat together.

  6. It is a very welcome gesture by Barclays. This has been long overdue and its about time other comapanies joined and ravamped our No.1 Sport.

But # 8 you need to exercise a little bit of respect for other contributers. Remember we all can’t think the same way and therefore our opinions are bound to differ. It is a healthy situation to have different opinion. Remember, not every Zedian who in America is a casual cleaner. Let remain civil as we contribute.

My stand is that the money the bank has put in is not enough but its better than nothing. It is a good way to start.

  7. # 8, that’s being so shallow minded. Not all of us here are in that kind of employment. Check me out at mwape.com – it will give you all the information you can get on me.
The point I was making is that clubs will probably spend more on camping costs, players’ allowances, transport and other incidental costs just to prepare and take part in the competition. Who is going to meet these costs – Barclays Bank? Cup competitions must be profitable to both the sponsors and the participating clubs. Barclays Bank will get all the publicity the want (not forgetting that the sponsorship maybe tax deductible as a charitable contribution), while the participating clubs -well they are just Zambian Clubs anyway.
#9, I understand the good gesture of Barclays Bank and the fact that the sponsorship could be reviewed later, but why can’t we start where the competition is also profitable to participating clubs.

  8. Thanks a lot Barclays but FAZ please come up with some sensible format for the competition. Why have six teams from the premier league and four from the lower leagues? How do you promote competition? Either you include all clubs or just Leave the competition to the premier league sides. After all, all teams are aspiring for the top title in the premier league. And as such all the teams in the premier league should be given the priorities to compete.

  9. ba 7. football in zambia is not as it was when u left 20 years ago.we people in zd are the ones who know the real situation big man.if you are that educated and u earn alot of dollas that side ,do something for zd soccer.

  10. Sorry #14, it’s NOT IF – I am! Do not always assume that all Zedians in USA do the same things NO! But that is besides the point. I come to Zambia every two years, it’s my home, my mother land and I am free to contribute as I see fit. I seem to be looking at the best interest of the teams than you are, and yet ‘you know the real situation’ (whatever it means). I know what promotional campains are and they can help promote Zambian soccer -if the price is right.

  11. There is nothing wrong with being a Zambian and living abroad. There is no one who is more Zambian than the next Zambian. We all make choices on where we should live and how we live. # 14 You are out of line. How much have you given so far to improve Zambian soccer? I guess # 7’s contribution makes a lot of sense that is why we want to pull him down. What is the purpose of education if he would not be allowed to blog just because he is abroad. If being abroad was so bad how come some fly in and out to go to the same abroad for treatment when they have headaches?

  12. I guess # 7’s was in no way aimed at despising what Barclays has done. I think I understood him as saying this amount does not just need to be the prize money if its practical staging will consume more than K90million. I strongly agree with him and I think Mr. Seyuba of Barclays Bank does too. How much will it cost for the teams who are not going to get any cut from the money to participate when they also have other expensive league commitments. They will spend a lot in travels, meals and accommodation which that K90 million does not cover. Maybe this arrangement should have been done in regions and more or less for scouting more talent or for topping up on winning the already existing KCM league
