No tribal politics, North-West MMD members advised

Share

The MMD in North-Western Province has appealed to its members  to put aside tribal inclinations and work towards unity in order to accelerate development in the province.

The party leadership  has since embarked on  re-organising the party starting from
the branch to the provincial  level in a bid to strengthen the party.

MMD provincial Information and Publicity Secretary Benjamin Mufunga,
has called party members to work together, saying this is not time for finger pointing.

He said tribalism is retrogressive not only to the party but the nation as a whole.

He said the party should embrace the ‘One Zambia, One Nation’ motto which promotes
unity across tribal lines.

Meanwhile, the MMD in  North-western province is appealing to the party National
Executive Committee, NEC, to empower the party with transport.

Provincial Information and Publicity Secretary Benjamin Mufunga said the party is
finding it difficult to mobilise the party in the province without transport.

Mr. Mufunga said all the party vehicles in the seven districts in the province have
broken down.

But in a separate interview with ZANIS,  MMD Deputy National Secretary, Richard
Kachingwe, said the party was aware about the transport problems the ruling party
was facing the province.

Major Kachingwe said the problem has been presented to the NEC for action.

He assured that vehicles would be provided soon.

  1. Iwe Thula iwe, bushe walipena! Don’t you know that the only true blue tribalist bigots in the country are Chiluba’s Katangese not North-Westerners. Well, maybe only that great crocodilecalled Sondashi is tribal from that end!

  2. Zimbabwe: Tsvangirai a Hopeless Leader — Mutambara

    Bulawayo

PROFESSOR Arthur Mutambara, who heads a faction of the opposition MDC, yesterday poured scorn on the leadership qualities of Mr Morgan Tsvangirai, saying Zimbabwe does not deserve “another Chiluba”.

Speaking in a television interview on the British Broadcasting Corporation’s Hardtalk programme, Prof Mutambara dismissed Mr Tsvangirai as a hopeless leader, remarking that even though he may be viewed by some as “brave”, the truth is that he certainly lacks the “strategic vision” to transform Zimbabwe into a globally competitive economy.

Likening Mr Tsvangirai to Mr Frederick Chiluba — a former bus conductor and trade unionist who toppled President Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia in the 1991 elections but was later tainted by accusations of corruption and economic mismanagement — Prof Mutambara said “bravery is not enough… you need an economic vision”.

“You may be brave, have guts, but what is needed is to have a visiWhen asked about his election plan, Prof Mutambara said his faction has a twin-pronged strategy anchored on civil disobedience and the ongoing Sadc-brokered dialogue between Zanu-PF and the MDC factions.

“We want free and fair elections,” he added.

This is the second time within two weeks that Prof Mutambara has attacked the leadership qualities of Mr Tsvangirai following the break-up of the unity talks between the two factions.

  3. Ba Thula #1 & Ba Shaka Zulu #2, there is no province nor tribe nor family that is tribal. However, some individuals can be tribalists and do not have a place in Zed no matter how hard they will try.

I went to secondary schools at Kasempa and Kabompo respectively. Furthermore, I have North-westerner associates & friends too. My wife is a North-westerner and our first-born daughter is known by a single Lunda (North-western) fore-name.

My good friend and former schoolmate from Manyinga-Kabompo now working in South Africa is married to a Bemba lady from Mporokoso.

Just some more information to #2 I’m a “Chiluba Katangese” borrowing your phrase. I mean I’m from Luapula or Mwata Kazembe kingdom

Therefore, Ba #1 & #2 stop judging people by their province, tribe, relatives or affiliation to certain associations. Thinkers like you are failing to take Zed to greater heights because you can’t think beyond provinces or tribes.

  4. North Western has never been a tribalist province. The province was neglected by Kaunda administration though Kunda administration did better than the Chiluba regime. Kaunda did right to try and unite Zambians by it’s One Zambia, One Nation which the Chiluba regime which included king cobra through out. Has the Mwanawasa administration promoted it? But we really need it.

  5. #5 during the UNIP administration the Mutanda-Chavuma road was just tarred upto a few kilometres from Solwezi. This was the time I used to go and come back from school every after three months it was a hell kind of exprience any student who went to Mukinge, Kasempa Boys’, Kabompo Boys’, Kalengwa & Zambezi Sec. UBZ inefficiency compounded that hell of a journey.

And mineral deposits in the province were merely mentioned in research papers.

#5 it is time we accepted “One Zambia One Nation” as national motto and well-meaning Zambians must not just associate it to UNIP & KK but must look at it as a national symbol that united us.

The MMD administration started tarring the Matanda-Chavuma road which is now several kilometres before Mufumbwe and the road from Kasempa turn-off to Mukinge Mission Hospital was completely tarred by 2004. Solwezi in now the new copperbelt of Zambia.

However, it must be mentioned that NW province is beyond Solwezi so MMD cast the net beyond Solwezi
