Share

International Copper Systems Limited, ICS, of Canada  the joint owners of the closed Mokambo Mine in Mufulira district, says no residents living within the vicinity of the mine would be displaced one the company begins full scale Copper production.

The mining firm has since appealed residents leaving near the mine especially those
around Mokambo border post, Minambe and Orasho, not to panic because the company has no intentions of displacing them.

ICS Technical Director, David Makepeace, made the assurance in an interview with
ZANIS in Mufulira.

Meanwhile, ICS injected US$20,000 million towards the construction of a road joining
Orasho area and the main Mokambo road.

The mine has also started working on the Mokambo Road that connects Mufulira
district to Luapula province via the Pedicle Road.

The investor has also disclosed plans to carryout rehabilitation works on the
Murundu road.

Mr. Makepeace said the ventures are part of the social cooperate responsibility that
the firm has put in place as a way of ploughing back its profits to the community of
Mufulira.

He said this during a public meeting held at the Mufulira Municipal council chambers
today.

The firm has also procured a hammer mill at a cost of K13 million for villagers in
Minambe, and was also supporting Murundu orphanage project and rendering monetary
support to local hospitals.

  1. The figure “$20, 000 million” does not look realistic surely. I think there is need for proof-reading before the news articles are published. However, my question is where does ICS generate their profits since the (Mokambo)mine is aparently closed?
