Malawian President Bingu Wa Mutharika arrives in Chipata for the Kulamba ceremony

Malawi President Bingu Wa Mutharika has arrived in Chipata, Eastern Province ahead of the Kulamba traditional ceremony of the Chewa people which kicks off tomorrow at Mkaika in Katete district.

President Wa Mutharika drove by road from Lilongwe to Mwami Border where he was
received by scores of people that included Eastern Province Minister Lameck Mangani.

Mr. Mangani said the said the people of Eastern Province were happy that President
Wa Mutharika would be among them during this year’s Kulamba ceremony.

And Wa Mutharika said that the people of Zambia and Malawi were one as they were
only petitioned by artificial boundaries drawn by colonial matters.

Mr. Wa Mutharika commended the Chewa people of Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia for preserving their culture.

Mr. Wa Mutharika also called on traditional leaders to continue promoting the
preservation of culture and tradition among their subjects.

The Malawi leader applauded the warm relations between Zambia and Malawi saying that he looked forward to a time when they would be no need for Passports for the people of the two  countries to visit each other.

Meanwhile, President Mwanawasa and his Malawian counterpart are scheduled to
commission the construction works of the Chipata/Mchinji railway project.

Latter In the evening, the two Heads of State are expected to attend a royal dinner
at Apollo Officers’ Mess in Chipata

Paramount Chief Kalonga Gawa Undi and several other chiefs from Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia are also expected to attend the dinner.
