FAZ negligent over players, family members – Chifire

Share

Government says the welfare of Zambia National Team  players and that of their spouses is the due responsibility of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and it will only intervene when FAZ has failed.

Sports Deputy Minister, Angela Chfire, says it is frustrating to see that FAZ is
looking onto everything from government instead of being independent.

Commenting on the wife of the late Nkana Football Club and International soccer
star, GIBSON MBASELA, who has been evicted from her house following a wrangle over
ownership of the house, Chifire said it is neglecglence on the part of FAZ.

She said FAZ should have resolved all the necessary pertinent issues obout the
welfare of players, noting that players greatly contributed to uplifting the soccer
standards in the country.

The Deputy Minister said although government is concerned, such matters could be
avoided if only the football governeing body, FAZ, pays particular attention to its
members and those stringed to it.

Mrs MBASELA, who is currently out of the country attending a Marketeers conference
in Brazil under Zambia Natinal MArketeers Association (ZANAMA), had her property
thrown out of her house last evening.

According to ZNBC news and monitored by ZANIS, Mrs. MBASELA’s children and
sympathisers from the Zambia National Marketeers Association were found outside the
house in Nkana East.

One of the Children, HUMPHREY MBASELA said he was caught unawares by the action
taken by the person who evicted them from the house.

And lawyer representing Mrs MBASELA, LOVENESS MBALUKU, refused to comment on the matter.

  3. ZAMBIAN chess master Amon Simutowe is now only a draw away from reaching his ultimate dream of becoming the first black chess grand master in sub-Saharan Africa.

Simutowe, who is leading the Max Euwe Stimulus invitational tournament that ends today, on Friday beat women’s grand master Bianca Muhren of the Netherlands in the seventh round of the tournament to take his points tally to 6.5.

With two rounds to go before the tournament ends, Simutowe, who needs seven points to earn his third grand master norm only has to earn a draw against either top seed Dibyendu Barua of India or Helgi Ziska of the Faroe Islands .

“This is beyond even my wildest dreams. Nothing is certain yet but 0.5 points out of two is something I can achieve,” said Simutowe.

By press time yesterday, Simutowe was playing Helgi Ziska in the eighth round and will play GM Barua in the last round today.

Barua is in second place with six points while Ziska has only two points.
The tournament features 10 players from around the world and includes two female players, Nona Gaprindashvili of Georgia and Bianca.

While Bianca is a female grand master, Nona holds both male and female grand master titles.

The field is prominent because of the legendary figures such as Argentinean legend Oscar Panno, former FIDE President Fridrik Olafsson of Iceland and former women’s world champion, Nona Gaprindashvili of the Republic of Georgia and Indian Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua.

  4. Viva Kalampa
Nkana FC is the greatest team of ALL TIME in Zambian football.
#9. Cyber-USA, i forgive you because where you are in the USA, football means something else. You are living in denial. Wake up and smell the coffee. Nkana FC is the team of the moments on the Zambia scene.
    Long Live Kalampa
    Long Live Nkana FC
We are getting all the barklays and the coca cola cup.

  5. Good luck kalampa. I just hope that they will maintain the superb form they are currently enjoying and not to disappoint us at the 11th hour and fail to be promoted to premier soccer next year. I hope my team ‘MIGHTY’ Mufurila Wanderers will one day wake up from coma like Nkana and play top flight football. I would to caution Kalampa supporters not celebrate yet.A lot of upsets happen in division one soccer. However go out there and support your resurrected team. Good luck Kalampa!!!!

  6. There is no denying that Kalampa is the most decorated Zambian team whether they now languish in division one or not. All great teams e.g. Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester United, AC Milan and others are known to be great because of their rich histories – so is Nkana. If the recent results are something to go by, I can definitely put my head on the block and declare that Nkana is back!

  7. Katongo played the all game for Brønby which they lost 4-2 to AC Horsens. Chris was one of the few best players for Brøndby, however their defence and goalkeeping was suspect.

  8. It’s unbelievable,says Simutowe

IT’S unbelievable, Zambia and black Africa’s first ever chess grand master Amon Simutowe has said.

Simutowe said this on Saturday night after meeting the set target of amassing seven out of nine points during the Max Euwe Stimulus invitational tournament that ended yesterday in the Netherlands to get his third and final grand master norm.

The Zambian chess prodigy described the achievement as an accomplishment of a mission.

The crowning of Simutowe brings the total number of black chess grand masters to three, after American Maurice Ashley and Swede Pontius Carson.

“This is a great day for the black chess community and also a great day for Zambian chess. I can’t believe that I have achieved this goal especially that I have done it without a trainer,” Simutowe said.

He said when he set out to earn his third grandmaster norm, he did not know it would come so soon.

“The black chess community has gone crazy. I hope this achievement will live an indelible mark on other black chess players that have higher aspirations,” Simutowe said.

Simutowe, known as the Zambezi Shark in chess circles, made a good start beating an International Master from New Zealand, Puchen Wang.

In the second round, the Zambian chess ace beat female chess legend and grand master Nona Gaprindashvilli.

The 66-year-old Gaprindashvilli, who has an ELO rating of 2364, is one of the most successful female players of her generation.

She was the sixth Women’s World Champion in the period 1962 to 1978 and the first female to get a male grand master title.

She regularly plays in ‘men’s tournaments’.
Simutowe won the first two rounds while playing black pieces.

“This is incredible for me. I was hoping for a good tournament but I did not expect such a good start. What is even more incredible is that I have won three of these four games while playing black pieces as this is considered a disadvantage,” Simutowe said.

Simutowe went on to beat international masters Willy Hendricks and Vincent Rothuis, both from the Netherlands, before playing out a draw with grand master Oscar Panno of Argentina in the fifth round.

Panno invented the Panno variation in the Kings Indian Defence.

Simutowe then recorded probably the biggest upset of the tournament following his heart-stopping win over grand master Fridrik Olafsson of the Iceland in the sixth round to take his points tally to 5.5.

He then defeated women’s grand master Bianca Muhren of the Netherlands.
In the penultimate round, Simutowe registered a draw against Helgi Ziska to take his points’ tally to seven.

His closest rival top seed Indian grand master Dibyendu Barua is a point behind at six points.

By press time, Simutowe was playing Barua in the final round yesterday.
Regardless of the result, Simutowe has the highest possible number of points that any player can amass.

“Even if Barua beats me, he will only get to seven points and makes us joint winners. But I intend to fight to be the sole winner of this tournament,” said Simutowe.

The field of the Max Euwe Stimulus tournament is prominent because of the legendary figures such as Argentinean legend Oscar Panno, former FIDE President Fridrik Olafsson of Iceland and former women’s World Champion, Nona Gaprindashvili of the Republic of Georgia and Indian Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua.

  9. In order to improve you have to admit your shortfalls, ba zambia ma kula in terms of the way the sport has moved on globally – plain and simple! Even countries like Zimbabwe and Malawi have had boys playing real divisions like the premiership.

Accept what we are and make a meaningfull recovery strategy for the future, only then will there be success. By future I don’t mean 2010 – forget it!!! This should be a strategy targeting youth football as the future. The “sembe” culture should be done away with!

  10. Jacob Mulenga was officially introduced to the RC Strasbourg fans over the weekend during his team 2-1 vitory over RC Lens.Jacob was handed the # 7 Jersey.
Collins did not feature for his team Bursaspor when the worn 3-1 over the weekend.I believe the man is still on a fitness programme .

You couldnt have put it any better. Good job and keep it up.

  12. #9 Cyber-USA, bushe imwe mwisula fye akanwa without thinking. What is historical about Nkana winning on Saturday.Aka lijo teko iyo.

  13. Rokana is a dynasty. I may be biased coz my late father was once the Chairman one the great Benard Chanda, Shapis, Simwalas, young Shinde, coach Henry Kalimukwas were there. I remember being escorted with my father from the stadium by the Kamfinsa mobile unit after a loss, just because losing at Scrivenor Stadium was simply unacceptable.

  14. To Nkana Fans
If by decorated you mean winners of silverware, Nkana is but one of the most decorated teams, but not the most. The most decorated team is Mighty, then Nkana, then Warriors. Check your stats

  15. With the professional players that Phiri announced all being available. I see no reason why Bafana Bafana cannot be beaten. Isaac Chansa, Andrew Sinkala, Moses Sichone and Jacob Mulenga have all confirmed their availbility for the crunch game in Cape Town next weekend. Others are Mbesuma and Chris Katongo. The players should just come in good time so they gel and combine well before the crucial match. My advice to Phiri is to field the strongest possible squad. I think this is the best we have as at now. So a good midfield plus excellent defending will give us result we want in Cape Town. I am not worried about our frontline. Chris, Mbesuma and Jacob will be a deadly combination upfront. Nshileyumfwishafye bwino iyo, it will happen. Guys dont stop posting your views, continue.

  16. Will Edwin Phiri be considered. I think he is an explosive left back with power. I remeber a few years ago Joseph Musonda failed trials at Kaizer Chiefs because he was too slow and lacked agression. I thin Edwin is one of the hottest properties in Zambian soccer and should be considered

  17. Edwin, though on loan to a first division side in Sweden is a good player, but the problem is that he is too rough (too many red cards, like Nyambe Mulenga), otherwise he is a very good defender

  18. On the New Coach, I give my full support for a Teacher/Coach because it’s exactly what we need. Bicskei I believe will do the Job. His name is a bit difficult to pronounce “Biscuite sky” will do!

Big up to a man that will teach our strikers and midfielders what their role is and perform at the highest level.

  19. It dangerous now. Bafana Bafana have just recalled McCarthy for the Chipolopolo match.

Zambia needs to prepare adequately with a tight defence.

  20. I’ve read several just right stuff here. Definitely price bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how so much effort you place to create this type of fantastic informative website.
