Faz announces patchy Zambia preps for Ghana 2008

Share

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) today released a patchy
itinerary for Zambia national team’s pre-2008 Ghana Africa Cup
training camp that is expected to kickoff on November 6.

36 regular home based squad members and fringe players-18 each from
the Copperbelt and Midlands- will gather in Kitwe and Lusaka
respectively for a two-day training camp.

FAZ, strangely, will then select a provisional team of home-based
players and the team is expected to play three high level
international friendly matches before Christmas the end of the year.

According to sources, one of the high level matches that has suggested
will be against Angola and that the match is still pending FAZ
approval.

According to the programme released by FAZ today, the team will then
regroup after the festive season and will be joined at an appropriate
time by the foreign based call-ups ahead of the Ghana finals.

FAZ however, did not give the full details of Zambia’s post-festive
season training camp.

And FAZ today confirmed that they would be staying in the Cosafa
regional football body putting to an end speculation that they were
plans to return to Cecafa.

A high level FAZ source said recently that Zambia had more to gain
from being in Cosafa in a regional body that has a higher caliber of
opponents like Angola and South Africa.

Both nationals are regular competitors on the current international
tournament calendar and took part in the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cup
tournament.

  1. We have played Angola before Faz please pick West African opponents we are ardent and passionate supporters we dont want our beloved country to be knocked in round 1. Namibia played Morocco and you still want to play Cosafa teams like Angola and Mozambique. Shame on you!

  2. bafikala ba faz why do always want to use cheap resources while expecting high results.you are the one who actually start knocking the squad off the tornament by having these low profile preparations.plz make a change to this atitude for zambia”s sake.

  3. I seem to be in agreement with Cho-australia; FAZ it may look expensive to play more reasonable teams but remember quality counts.

What we are concerned about- as fans is to see a strong team that will fight fearlessly in Ghana. To label with insults may not be the best thing. But you can surely wiser decisions than the low profiled teams that you seems to have in your game plan.

If South Africa can play Italy, we can equally play France and yield a better result a the end of the day.

  4. All the points given the guys above are true and valid. Faz will be to blame if Zambia packs its bag in the first round because of poor friendlies. We need formidable firendly matches. Why not play teams like Mali, Cote Di Voire, Nigeria, Tunisia etc. Faz you want to reap where you did not sow. We cannot expect to go far in the tournament with poor preps.

  5. Nigeria is playing Australia in London in NOvember and have called 8 English based players for the game. Indeed FAZ shame on you!

  6. Faz are very funny people. My brothers not only are they funny but they are very predictable. Their next step is to leave out some of the European based players inorder to cut costs. My dear brothers Nigeria and Cameroon are teams that normally rotate their Euro pros during friendlies. Zambia does not do that. It is not true that we dont have players in Europe. Edwin Phiri is better than Joseph Musonda but he is not considered. Boyd Mwila may be average but he is better than James Chamanga.

  7. I think the following Euro pros must be included in the Ghana squad!
Sichone,Loyd Mumba, Misheck Lungu,Sinkala,Isaac Chansa,Edwin Phiri,Jacob Mulenga,Collins Mbesuma,Chris Katongo,Clive Hachilensa,Rodgers kOLA(Soon Norway). Zambia must drop Chamanga and Chivuta they have failed. Songwe Chalwe and Mayuka should be the other strikers to considered period.

  8. ZAMBIA’S STARTING 11 IN MY OPINION
Mwene 4-3-3 with katongo dropping at times.

    Edwin Phiri
    Isaac Chansa
    Sebastian Mwansa
    Andrew Sinkala
    Katongo(c)
    Mbesuma
    Jacob Mulenga

  9. With more people commenting, i feel what is important is not probably personalize issues based on who each supporter likes much.

Some players have become complacent and so they not putting much effort. Such is Mbesuma. All players should be picked on merit and not how much they had become popular. I also see alot of indiscipline among some of them; which is deadly to their career

Let’s be careful. We will not allow Phiri and his boys to be passengers.

  10. FAZ have always been crazy the past 20 years. I often wonder how they have failed for over 40 years to organise a self-sponsoring professional league when there are so many business opportunities in soccer. There should have been a systematic arrangement of friendlies and with certain objectives for each game. However, I dont agree that Angola is crap. They can give Zambia a good run for their money.

  11. I once mentioned that Zambia faces a strong posibility of exiting the tournament in the first round. There are no plans by FAz to prepare the team. When did the team qualify? What has the FAz been doing all along? Th efaz is talking of negotiating with a Foreign country to camp the National a team. What Have you Foolish Absurd Zonkies (FAZ) been doing all along? You let us down really. By this time you could have found some opponents to train with. Come on we need new leaders in FAZ.

  12. We have always problems, but I just wonder how other countries considered to be as poor as us manage. Without a decent stadium in our back yard, at this time to really looks bleak. The zed govt have been a disappointment, they like to demand more than they invest. Look at Chungu former OP chef that house could have built half a stadium. Selfishness, napali ako tukaya but I hope the boys can do a good job more for themselves so to help their families. It is really sad that we have to sing the

  13. Kataya unveils 20-man AFCON squad.

  14. Strikers. Collins Mbesuma, Jacob Mulenga, Chrisopher Katongo, James Chamanga.

Notable call-ups include the fleet-footed Clifford Mulenga of Sweden and the temperamental Kalaba. Kalaba’s fine form in local and international competition could not escape the attention of the pundit. Kataya is keen to see the 4-3-3 formation deployed this January, allowing, with a favoured starting midfield of Bakala, Sinkala and Kalaba playing behind Katongo, Mulenga, and Mbesuma.

  16. On Faz my word i don’t even know what to say.We the only team that seems disorganized in terms of friendly games.Even the game against Angola is not confirmed.Hey,i can give a list of other teams preparation games nearly all have about 3 games or so lined up.

  17. Just wait and see. It will be Zambia V midlands select, Zambia V Copperbelt select, Zambia V Zanaco, Zambia V Green Eagles thereafter fly to Ghana on 17th January 2008.

  18. I wish the FAZ executive was voted for by soccer fans. Then we can definitely have the right people in place to the job effectively.

The current chaps behave like they are government appointees who can not think for themselves. What does it take to organise a friendly much with the likes of Ghana, Mali,Ivory Coast, Senegal, Nigeria, Tunisia and other strong teams on the continent? This kind of incompetence on the part of is unacceptable and calls for immediate action from the soccer lovers.

  19. #26 ctd Soccer fans are the ones who are mostly affected when the team doesnt deliver. These FAZ officials are immune to bad feelings after a defeat because their primary goal is to accumulate as much tax payers money as possible at the expense of delivering a good performance. Shame and cry the beloved country.

We need a soccer revolution. We have been taken for a ride for a long time by these self-centred individuals.

As soccer fans we need to be involved in selected people to run FAZ

  20. Chips # 11, Well spoken my friend what have these guys been doing since we qualified.I really fail to understand Faz at times.Even Kalu can’t use his influence to get the team a friendly game.Poor countries like Mali,Sudan with all the fighting,Benin are more organised.Novices like Namibia……. i rest my case.

  21. Sorry i meant to say Chips # 14.Can someone from Lusaka Times PLEASE FORWARD some of the complaints on the blog to FAZ or even the Minister of Sport. We tired of this crap, we have been taken for a ride long enough.

  22. Bafikala ba FAZ. Namibia is playing Saudi Arabia a team that goes to the world cup regularly. They beat Ghana 5-0 and they reached the final of th Asian Championships. Bafikala Namibia is ranked below Zambia how come they are playing high profile teams.

  23. It also goes to the creativity of the coach, when kalu was coach, he could organise some friendlies with the DRC, it was good. Phiri lacks that creativity, influence and foresight that Kalu has in terms of organisation. How can he pick the madalas that have failed before onhis technical bench? Away with phiri.

  24. #31 Chips I do not understand either how Phiri has gone for these guys, but my opinion is that he is scared of all the 3 teams we are going to meet. He is really scared cause he knows how good we are
