Eradication of poverty will aid HIV/AIDS fight- KK

First Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda says government efforts aimed at eradicating poverty in the country must be supported by all stakeholders if the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS is to be won. Dr. Kaunda, who is patron of Habitant for Humanity Zambia, says this is because poverty is at the core in the spread of the pandemic.

He was speaking in Lusaka today when Stanbic Bank donated US$12 000 to Habitant for
Humanity Building Project.

Dr. Kaunda said Stanbic Bank must be saluted for its gesture because the donation
would go a long way in helping the vulnerable in society.

He, however, pointed out that poverty would only be eradicated if every individual
channels efforts towards poverty eradication.

Speaking earlier, Stanbic Bank Managing Director Larry Kalala said the provision of
shelter is a fundamental Human Right.

He said Stanbic Bank would endeavour to practically demonstrate its social
responsibility by coming to the aid of the disadvantaged.

And Habitant for Humanity Zambia Chairperson Mary Kazunga said Habitant for Humanity
has since expanded operations to four provinces of the country.
Ms. Kazunga said over 60 houses have been built and 360 people have benefited.
