Govt to act over Sata ‘s reported passport loss

Share

Go to fullsize imageGovernment says it will establish the truth on whether Patriotic Front (PF) President Michael Sata did not fake loss of his passport in order to obtain a clean one that did not carry the Prohibited Immigration endorsement.

Chief Government Spokesperson Michael Mulongoti says Government has received reports that the PF leader whose passport was endorsed by the Malawian Immigration as a Prohibited Immigrant must have realised that he would not be allowed to enter the United States of America and decided to fake the loss of the Passport.

Mr Mulongoti said in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today that if found
that Mr Sata faked loss of his passport the law will take its course as it is an
offence under the Passport Act No.22 of 2003 to fake the loss of a passport in order
to get a new one.

Mr Mulongoti, who is also Information and Broadcasting Minister, said government has
received reports that the PF President may not have lost the passport as he claims.

He noted that Government is aware that Mr Sata reported to the Zambian High
Commission in London complaining that he had lost the passport while staying at the
Crown Plaza Hotel in there.

Mr Mulongoti further said that Mr Sata told the Zambian High Commissioner in London,
Mr Anderson Chibwa that he could not as a result of the loss of his passport proceed
to the United States of America (USA) where he was to present a paper on Human
Rights at the Harvard University.

Mr Sata sought the assistance of the Zambian High Commission in London in obtaining
another passport and consequently he was given a travel document to enable him
travel back to Lusaka where he applied for a replacement.

  1. Sata doesnt cheat.Ba Mulongoti where have you seen a person checking out of the the hotel you produce a passport.
Bushe Bamulongoti have travelled like the likes of Sata, VJ, FTJ etc…Shame tot he government…!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. If he did that, he is smart!
If he didn’t stop smearing the presidential hopeful!
If he did that, he is crooked!
If he didn’t stop destroying the next president!
If he did that, he is dangerous!
If he didn’t stop maligning the credible opponent!
If he did that, he should not be trusted!
If he didn’t nothing shall stop him to that office!

  3. Are you telling me that Sata is the only person who has lost his passport? Come on Zambians, lets be talking about developmental issues, planning and implimenting for the betterment of our children. A Passport can be lost from someones jacket. That video you are showing is not making any sense to convict someone like Mr. Sata. What is so special about Sata for him to be monitored that way when checking-in and out of the hotel? Dr.Chuchu, did you ordered your Chinese to keep a close eye on him? Ok, let me end here. I have alot of questions to ask Bashi Chipo’s government.

  4. It’s prerogative of the govt to re-issue passports to citizens upon lost, stolen and/or forgotten. Thus, Muloooongotiiiii point would be valid if hon Sata forgot the passport intentionally and absurd for Muloooootiiii to really know what was in Hon Sata mind to forgot the passport. This chap Mulooooongotiiii should just concentrate on his work rather than trying to impress Chuchu that he’s working by spending manhour on trivial issues.

  5. Under the Penal code of the laws of Zambia it is perjury to lie on a notarized document and under oath before a commissioner of oath when wittingly testify lies. A Passport is Government property issued under oath. The evidence at hand must be exploited to restore legal accountability in Sata who claims his confusion is a result of the abnormal birth under a Chitulika tree he claims to have been dropped on the ground in full view of fellow villagers.

  6. The facts at hand are that Sata has his old passport which he handed to Dr. Mulenga for custody in London. He opted to withdraw and replace it after tough immigration questions in London about the Malawian Government PNG stamp, and the two visits he made to Yemen and Iran in 2005 and recently in 2006.In 2006, publicly while wearing an Iranian Mullah outfit in Lusaka he insulted the West and declared that he was a Sheik. Money since have been traced from some Mullahs to Sata.

  7. Like the Zim Zim, GRZ and the Fed know him as cheap crook ready to be hired but untrustworthy to invest in. He has belabored to dance and sing for Bob across in the Matebele land but bob calls him a desperate vulture without values.

The Mullahs have officially found him to be unfit merchant of fortune too dangerous to entrust though he has offered to offer Zed to their Islamic fundamentalism.the tricking Dollars are crams to keep in in check.

  8. It has never been in the ruling party’s gift to prosecute anyone. In a proper democracy the police arrest and interrogate someone. They then compile a report and hand it over to the DPP. The DPP then decided whether there is a case to answer. In this tin-pot joke of a country, even the MMD party spokesman puts in his two penny’s worth. If one of their’s (say a minister) is caught lying, the silence from Mulongoti and the state owned comics (sorry, newspapers) is deafening.

  9. Lost the passport or trashed it comes to one thin the story that sata gave has holes in it and its falling apart right before his eyes.My point is how much trust can I put in Sata incharge of national afairs If he can play such corning games. We can attack the post and its editorial and we might attack Fred personally or say we do not need them.If these pipo saying this have any brain to serve they should ask KK and FTJ.What role was the post to get KK out of jail or putting FTJ in office

  10. Come on guys, losing a passport is not such a big deal but to tell a lie raises serious ethical issues by a man trying to be president of a state. Do not support blindly use you heads!

  11. THis the reason why i can not trust sata cause underestimating the media if you are in politics is a very serious mistake which a man of satas experience should known.Only a dictator ‘d take that rout.Sata is in the hole but he keeps on digging, that makes a lot of bull.Sata should stop overating himself and humble himself to remain relevant. He should know that he is likely to arouse very painfull memories about his past.pipo have not forgotten they ll punish him.

  12. Sata is NOT presidential material. Some people are good at opposing and are not necessarily good at governing. There are numerous examples: Chiluba, Lech Walesa (Poland),etc. These people are effective in opposition and are great rabble rowsers but they are not good at running governments. Whatever we might say about Sata, he has more character and charisma than any of us here. He makes a difference on the ground and he makes LPM sit up and listen. Our dull lives are enriched by such people!

  13. I just hope that one day, Sata will become the president of this country and all the lumpend who are praising him for all his stinking crookedness would then be accorded a chance to dance in their stinking vomit. That man is rotten to the very core and the so called Harvard University inviting him to talk about China will be the ones turning the screws on him like they did on Mugabe. Brothers and sisters, I know things are bad but this Sata suicide attempt your courting is a disaster.

  14. In accordance with numerous Constitutional Review Commission recomendations, this country should be federalized so that heads ofprovinces are elected directly by the people living there. This way, people in Luapula, Northern and Copperbelt can form a Northern Alliance headed by Sata. Then they will enjoy the fruits of their long yearned for wishes. Taiwan can then pump millions into Mwansabombwe, Chatulika and Kasama, then they can all be rich, free, and leave us alone.

  15. It’s clear Sata u-turned in London because when he realised the hurdles of the prohibited immigrant sticker created for him in London, he knew New York would be an entire Muchinga escapment to jump over. So, he came up with a lost passport trick and it got him into the USA. Now, these Americans are watching and if Zambians are stupid, they will vote for another “Mugabe” whom the West will target with smart sanctions, within a year, Zambia will be worse off than Zimbabwe. Sence of danger we lack.

  16. Imushotoki is very right. Zambian must draw a line and seperate trustworth and untrustworth. We watched the video footage on our national TV yesterday where Sata used his passport to checkout. It is a shame.

  17. For Sata to go to the US via London he must have obtained the US visa at the embassy with the PI endorsement from Malawi. His trip was to proceed to the US from UK without coming back to Zambia . So if common sense prevails everyone can see that there was no need to get a new document in order to enter the US.The embassy did not find it a problem to issue a visa to a PI .Come on Zambia a passport loss cant be a national issue

  18. I doubt very much if the US Govt is not aware that Mr Sata is a prohibited immigrant in Malawi. So for the US embassy to issue Mr Sata with the Visa simply shows that the endorsement was not an issue. It is sad that our Govt wants to spend our tax for stupid investigations.A passport loss is normal and should not even be a national crisis

  19. I expect people that contribute to this should at least gone to school, that is above G12. So why should you beleive the trash coming from the MMD propaganda?
For example, you don’t need a passport or id to check out of a hotel. You settle your bill by cash or credit card if you have any bills. You also get visas for the UK and USA before departure. These are not gotten at the boarder.
Lying in politics is the order of the day, there are lies that are acceptable and lies that are dangerous.

  20. Lying about the loss of your passport is not a big deal, only when you want to have your passport given to a nigerian or terrorist! Travellers know that losing or miplacing your passport is one of the risks of traveling.
The issue we should be discussing are not personalities but ideas that are being presented from the PF camp about how this country should be given. Eg Chinese invasion of the country to do the same menial jobs as unskilled zedians. High unemployment rates similar to Zimbabwe (

  21. about 400 pin people in employment out of a labour force of 4 million, that is, 90% un employed.
Zimbabwe might have high inflation rates (1200%) but the country can still manufacture goods and services and still export to Zambia. Zambia on the other hand imports everything from a needle to second hand pollutants cars (wires).
With the way we are going, MMD will not improve things and hence the need for a new and experienced team of Zedian with alternative way of thinking and doing things.

  22. Sata must have had a US and UK visa b4 Malawi declared him PI.. Dont you see the logic here. Someone must have tipped him off that in NY it wont be easy.
Facts: The video shows that Sata lied that the passport was stolen in the hotel and stolen by a Chinese porter..IF it get established that there is a Chinese porter in the hotel he was, I would recommend the porter or Chinese porters sue him on those basis.
SATA and his supporters are somehow sick in the head.

  23. Post editor has joined the queue hoping to be picked up at midnight from bwinjifumu road whilst writing a pro-govt editorial. All eyes are on plot 1. Today’s Post Headline “PF boat sinking – R.Banda” On Nchanga by election day. Who is he campaigning for? Why not remain neutral and let the voters decide. Editors are not superhuman or infallible. They too are humans and can fall prey to temptation. Every man has got his price.

  24. What`s worse between SATA misplacing his passport and LPM grabbing land from UNZA.CHITOBA syphoning public funds,Mulyata entangled in corruption.
    BAKOLWE BASEKANA IFIPATO.

  25. SATA SAID: President Mwanawasa swore to defend you. But after swearing to defend you, President Mwanawasa joined hands with this muzezulu woman, Masebo.(Quote from the post on sata campaingn in mandevu).
What did SATA mean by calling Masebo Muzezulu woman!!!..
Let me tell everone here.. The POST is the only institution which has stood its ground on issues of national interest. The post is here to stay with or without Mmembe or mapulanga.

  26. No. 1,r u blind. Its on camera & now the whole Zambia knows that Sata did not lose his passport thru theft by Chinese porter as he claims,it was on the news ystday 4 all with eyes to see that Sata z jst a crooked old man. This Sata nonsense z taking a lot of Lt tym.
Sata z a shameless liar period .I however wish him all the best in Nchanga today

  27. What is the fuss about all this. What do we care if Sata is given VISA to go to the US or not. Why should it be Govt’s preoccupation to persue and waste govt resources on this. How is this going to create jobs and reduce the price of Mealie meal in Zambia. This is so cheap. I bet a lot of people in govt have several passports and it’s just that we don’t know and we know. If Sata went to Harvard and praised MMD, we wouldn’t even have heard of this investigation. Please just fix this rotten system

  28. Movement for madarax Dealers (MMD)has run out of ideas and common sense. Sata is a threat and the more they want to intimidate him the more they make him popular. If Sata had something that can make him arrested this govt could have done so within the fraction of a second.viva PF Viva Sata viva Zambia and long our peace, love and understanding.

  29. Minions of mandrax dealers(MMD) now listen you won’t stop HON SATA with your cheap propaganda, we zedians are now in the know of your tricks with the post.No matter how much you will try to discredit HON SATA me personally i won’t jump out of this famous boat. Mulechulafye chuchu, mpombo and mulongotwe, where does he come from????
Viva PF Viva HON SATA we are behind you 100%. My friend Wanyanya ulibwanji nakuyewa boyi, we’ll talk tonight after hearing the results. Ba Jose pliz update us on results

  30. HK #29 Yes THE POST is here to stay, just like Times of Zambia, Daily Mail & ZNBC. Their output is a work of art and we shall continue to consume it. ALAS, WITH A LARGE PINCH OF SALT. Like one would treat a profession of unconditional love from a hooker.

  31. Who is more dangerous one who lies about a government document or one who steals elections. Don’t forget how LPM n his crew got into power for a second time, giving a result of 10 000 votes from a village population of 7 000 residents. Politicians are more like dypers and should be changed frequently and for the same reason. What Zambia needs is a breed of new thinkers with fresh ideas and these old worn out rugs!!!!!! Bonse ni chimo chine!!!!

  32. Hey guys, whatever you say about Fred and the post will not cower him into submission to start singing praises to a man who is rotten to the core like Sata. If If the post exposes the crookedness of your dream president, then you label it pro MMD and Levy. If he it writes negative things about the MMD and Levy, you call it a patriotic paper. Face the facts, your prefered man is not honest.Do you remember that he was convicted by the ACC in the Chiluba regime but FTJ saved him? WAKE UP!

  33. Muchacha#40 Refer to: Theory of Probability of Binomial Distribution. Wikipedia online encyclopedia. You will get a scientific approach in determining the distribution of populations. You can even compile some statistics from this blog & calculate the probability of an occurrence (the question lingering in your mind).
    Hope that helps.

  34. Muleshininkisha ba mmd.Nchanga yesu.Mwafula abomwabepa.Everything here pa ZEDI is crap. What a country!!!Exam leakages, nepotism corruption, tribalism mention it nothing is missing. We dont want a country found on paper(abstract)we need a tangable one.Zesco mwaonaula,Zamtel labawalya.Zesco? how much do you pump in?Its only running by chance.Let genuine people take over please.WE dont need any capital to run such businesses, what a bogus to our leadership.

  35. #47 You are right. I made the same sentiments under the topic ‘pros hitlist’ on sports blog. All I got was insults. Please let us face reality. We do not need recycled brains to run the country.

  36. Reporting From Nchanga

The morale in PF camp is still high and cadres who casted vosts have gathered as one big family awaits for the final count down when Chimubwa(pala noko pala chuchu ukubipa)will be put a coffin and erase him completely from Zed political arena while MMD camp are scattered like isolated thunder storm with long faces and seem like have just finished singing “tuposepo akabwe pamunesu, tatwakamune …One surprising thing, there are chocholis in MMD camp, I’m not sure whether

  37. Its all a scam how does he get a passport within a few hours and did he get approval of the Chief immigration officer. And immediatly he was offered a Visa how remarkable. Only swift crooks manage to get their way round the usual burocracies .

  38. He SATA is also a dictator a very dangerous man i can just recall the chawama saga and the thugs he recruited at kulima

  39. #48 and we know them, they are about to be fished out.we were more brilliant than these guys given top jobs in these companies like Zesco.Thats why it will fall and hit rock bottom.

  40. Patriot, you are the one who is sick beyond chainama and need psychiastric intensive care unit for your illness. Could you insult your father. You are a disgrace to your fellow MMD cadres who find abusive language as a proper and normal language.sensible contribution is a way forward for future generation and aspiring leaders of the tomorrows.

  41. koma lupiya banda waina alamune lilapo, elo landa sana pali ba sata kabili abakamba ba chuchu efyo bofwabwino.ALAWALAIKALA PAMALILA APO PAKA 2011.Neshina lya kulinga. infact na chuchu alekunfwa

  42. The MMD Gvt is made up of Imbwa, why do they want to start wasting money on investigating the Sata/passport issue? This shows that they have nothing serious to keep them busy, Mike Mulongoti ni kolwe saana, If sata lied or not, it doesn’t matter. Its in the past, the people have read and seen the circumstances sorounding this and they have made their own conclusions, after all, they are the voters. By the way, where is Levy, he has been unusually quiet for some time! hope he is not in hospital.

  43. Mulongoti and MMD remember what the BIBLE clearly states that ‘you will know the trueth and the trueth shall set SATA free’. The problem is that everything that SATA says, for Chines party (MMD) it seems false. We know that SATA has put the Chines political party (MMD) in hot time. Thank the Lord, V.j Mwanga is sick and hope you will not steal Vote for Nchanga by-election

  44. #59 Iwe ci FACTLESS, stop alarming the blog, where did you get that information. Tune in to radio icengelo.

  45. Update- So far so good for PF, they are leading comfortably at four polling stations. Its early days, VJ is still alive tables may turn.

  46. Who is to be trusted, the one who steals copper like chimumbwa,or the one who claims to have his passport stolen? Those who have travelled i think you know that you leave your passport at the embassy before a visa is issued,so those people there had a look at satas passport before giving him a visa.So if usa couldnt have allowed him with such a passport the embassy wouldnt have given him the visa.Baba at the embassy there are no negotiations when the say no its no.diverting from chimumbwa issue.

  47. I am surprised at how Sata manages to command issues in this country. If there is news in the country then it must have something to do with Sata. Even the entire govwernment spends tremendous energy to attend to issues raised by him but of course this attention is usually in form of being defensive. I bet they know Sata’s capacity to shape the country’s opinion on matters of national interest. So Govt thought that they could use Malawian govt to indirectly put a ban on Sata’s travel? Hw silly!!

  48. In the unlikely event of Chimumba ‘wining’ (rigging)it will be sad for Nchanga and Zambia in general. The only wise thing to happen is to have someone else win the seat. I understand Dr Chuchu’s troubles in standing on the platform with Chimumbwa to campaign for him with the court case and questionnable behavior behind him. Indeed “Mushebwa aile NAMAFI kubuko”

  49. #67 the way things are going it will be very difficult for them to rig especially that North western province isnt involved this time.

  50. 71# Msana wandalama, if you are a woman, how much is your msana worth???
Factless, you can listen to radio Chengelo free of charge online. coppernet.zm

  51. #75. Thats a crippy name for a man mate! Bullocks sounds better!!! Anyway, Iam guessing you are from the eastern province!!!

  52. Nchanga results from 18 Polling stations so far:
    PF: 2,906, MMD: 615, UPND: 188, APC: 103, FDD:27, UNIP: 21, Independent: 12

  53. #78 Msana wandalama: Nishani, I suggested a very nice name, at leaste better than what you have now. If its a fight you want, bring it on? you Ngoni boy!

  54. Mbozi#57 For your information, am not and have never bee an MMD cadre. I don’t belong to any political party because being a member of a party in Zambia is very painful. I cannot stand the circus you call zambian politics, its sickenning to say the least. So I would rather remain non-partysan and look at issues objectively. When I say Sata is not presidential materia, that is my opinion. I know Levy is not also fit to rule this country thats why I have never voted for him. I hate crooks.

  55. Maybe now political parties will steer clear of defecting MP’s!!How can MMD adopt a defector and try and re-impose him/her on the electorate. Such gimmicks discourage new entrants into the political arena !!If you ever left the Republican Party in the USA,the Democrats would NEVER adopt you as a candidate for the same area.A lesson can be learnt from our American friends here !!The same is true in most of Europe. Its time African political strategists played a new tune !!
