UPND condemns closure of Evelyn Hone College.

Share

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has blamed Evelyn Hone College authorities for failing to resolve sanitation problems at the institution which has lead to its closure.

UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma says the closure of the college will result in
academic time loss and impact negatively on the school calender.

Mr. Kakoma said the closure of the college has a negative bearing not only on the
students who are in their final year but also incoming students who will have to
wait longer because of the closure.

Mr Kakoma said this in a statement made available to the Zambia News and Information
Services (ZANIS) in Lusaka today.

He said college authorities are to blame for failing to sort out the water and
sanitation problem at the institution adding that the K150, 000 needed to sort out
the problem was too little and could have easily been raised.

He further said the ministry of Science and Technology, through the inspectorate
department should have moved in to sort out the water problem before the situation
worsened.

Mr Kakoma has however appealed to students in various learning institutions to
desist from damaging property each when they are aggrieved adding that disturbing
innocent motorists and residents in surrounding areas was an act of
irresponsibility.

He further urged the college management to be proactive and resolve the water and
sanitation problem at the institution so that students do not lose out on the
academic calendar.

Government yesterday closed the Evelyn Hone College indefinitely after a week long
of protests against poor water reticulation and sanitation at the institution.

  1. There is lack of coordination of issues in Zambia. If sanitation is the cause of the close of the college then we have a big problem. Its not only the Administrators who are to blame here. Its all crap from the Sewage company or who ever is responsible to give santation to the college. This reminds me of why we still have Pitratrins is our residential areas. There is no difference on the institutions and the homes we are coming from. A mechanism should be worked out to curb such problems.

  2. its nonsense again. how many times is the zambian school calendar not properly followed? how can we produce “quality” graduates with a situation like this? For every a problem that occurs, it means closing is the only alternative. where are we? the govt. must do a lot to improve the education system. well, how many ministers care? few if any. since they send their children and relations outside the country for studies. we got to put education first. respect students rights.

  3. Ba Chapi,
One is merely surviving untill his family is lifted up.Your mother is in a state of hopelessness yet you are sleeping on the blog where nothing will work out.

  4. Ba Chapi,
This is SAGE not FACT whatever your beef with him. You know I’m the only one besides yourself here who know your mother and her fate.Having a four roomed house in Chipulukusu without food, medical care, soap and relief from all her vices at 73 is a sign of dangerous failure and hopelessness of you. This is free advice:Please re-examine your mental condition.

  5. Joze & Chapi,

You two known for mocking President Mwanawasa over his accident.Your Sata and yourselves are certainly no exceptions.

  6. The same old story.Closing of institutions of higher learning for stupid reasons when are we gonna improve?

  7. Zambia is falling apart that is why we need Sata. Indeni is out of fuel again. How on earth does someone justify getting paid when no work is being done. After 40 years of independence Evelyn Hone college does not have proper sanitation is that not insane?
I am ashamed to be Zambian

  8. it is indeed very disturbing that we dont have descent sanitation for a higher learning institute like EHC after 40 years. What is more disturbing is we cant even manage our own lifeline (fuel at INDENI)There is no pride in being Zambian anymore. Who will liberate this country and make a difference. The previous Govts have clearly let us down.

  9. all these stupid situations arise due to incompetent managers who cling to the seats like they were born with.
also you given the chance to manage these institutions first thing first you would want to corrupt the instittution so you can move out of the poverty you are wallowing.
so this culture of corruption and mismanagement has come to stay for as long as the governing polocies are not revisited.
there should have been a smooth transition from socialism/humanism to captalism.

  10. Ala Chuchu wants us to use his ilenda as oil thats why he does not care whether there crude oil or not. After he is got only fews months to go and water his Teka farm with ilenda.

  11. This is the problem when the country is centrally run. Decision making will always have to wait for the terminal bud (head of state)to prevail. This problem may be occuring in other learning institutions not mentioning the hospitals. We need to quickly build capacity for the implementation of the national decentralisation policy. This similar policy has for decades been working in the United Kingdom, South Africa, etc, hence organised health and education facilities in these countries.

  12. from the contributions above, looks like the citizens want the president to supply them with the necesities.
then let me suggest that all Civil servants, corporate directors and economy managers should relinguish their positions and leave the president to run civil and economy matters.
Only shallow minded individuals will blame the president.no wonder zambia is going NO WHERE with the kind of contributions I read here.
so much of witch hunting.no wonder BA FULWE NE NKUNDA is now zampost.

  13. So Sata’s revelation during the campaign in Chingola that there was going to be another fuel shortage soon because govt only managed to source fuei worth $41m was correct. The ‘problem’ I have with Sata is because most times his revelations prove to be true. When he says something, critics are quick to dispel, but truth catches up with them. God help us!! Problem is that Govt has forgotten their responsibility because of their pre-occupation with wanting to deal with Sata, the number 1 enermy!

  15. There should come a time when leaders in government should resign for failure to deliver. I want to like the crude oil situation (macrolevel) to mealie meal in the home (microlevel. As a head of the nation and you note that levels of mealie are depleting, there should be contigence planning. There seem to be a problem of decision making in this government let alone who takes the responsibility for the wrong decision. Come on time to act was yesterday.

  16. Ba chuchu bene chipuba indeni is closed, hone is equally closed. What a leader? I was say it is very wrong to have a president who is a boss and not a leader.Dr chuchu is one of them ***** bosses

  17. The quality of education in Zambia need to be addressed. Closures, leakages & strikes are the order of the day. I have come across school leavers at University/colleges with 6-10 points school certificates but cannot even copy notes or take dictation. What type of graduate do you expect from a school/college that is like a squatter camp? Exam leakages are now as endemic as defilement cases. What a country!!!

  18. Ladies and gentleman, these college closures and fuel shortages were there even during the time Sata was in government with KK and Chiluba.Just what the hell is he going to do now when he is 70 which he failed to do when he was still in his prime, NOTHING! We all know he has moles in the system who tell him of things like an impending INDENI fuel shortages before IT happenS, this has nothing to do with wisdon to strategise, a capability Sata is cronically deficient of.

  19. Disappointed you are right, everytime Sata says something it turns out to be true.I am being convinced that Sata may be the Leader Zambia needs. The lack of planning in Zambia is frightening.

  20. #24 Mudenda,so you want these distractive things to our economy to continue because they used to happen? What type of a failure in life are you?If your fore fathers did not go to school so you must not also.Your contributions on this blog are just too futile.Who’s computer are you using?I dont know why you are using it, because your father didnt have any.

  21. #24 You bloody tribalist and not fit to be at this blog and no wonder Sakis had to leave the party from your province becoz of pipo like you and the truth is with this kind of attitute no presdo will come from your province in your time unless you change your attitute towards other pipo from other provinces, period.

  22. # 26-28 Visitor you are indeed a visitor so you dont know much. HH has been silent and seems to be counting his loses from the general elections. We dont want leaders who pop up only when it is election time. Sata was vocal before and is vocal after the elections.Between Sata and HH, Sata has more substance than HH. Experience is required, why do you think Obama is losing to Hillary Clinton? No# 24 get a life lose your old fashioned mentality. wake up chana

  23. U Sata cronies stop wasting our tym with yo yappie yappie prezdo.
HH has more substance than the tribal bigot u r promoting here.In this modern day & age u still insist that Sata z suitable 4 Plot 1.Keep dreaming, sazaimyanga daddy plot 1,anachedwa

  24. #24 Roy Mudenda you see i even told you last time, the mabisi you are drinking to much is not good for you, its really taking a tore on your thinking. If you have nothing to say just shut up rather than putting the name of your tribe in disrepute.MMD stinks corruption and only Hon SATA can bring sanity to our beloved zed cos HH is already sleeping waiting for 2011 to start campaigns

  25. #39 Wanzelu…U must be tonga or something to want HH in power. Uli tonga bull te?
But the fact is uli fontini and you should have been born ine Nepal, away from these brilliant minds that take our country status seriously unlike you.

  26. WHAT A PITY THE KIND OF CONTRIBUTIONS COMING OUT.I WONDER IF THE MOST OF YOU ARE CONTRIBUTING POSITIVELY TO THE ZAMBIAN ECONOMY,IF NOT ONLY ASKING FOR A PIN JUST TO SEAT IN THE CAFEE TO BLOG AND INSULT PEOPLE.

SHAME ON YOU AND MAY THE ECONOMY STRUCK HARD ON YOU FOR BUSY WASTING YOUR OWN TIME AND OF THAT OF YOUR CHILDREN.

  27. #44 gk
Most of these bloggers here are Sata’s henchmen with machetes ready to strike anyone who speaks against their gang leader. They are the worst tribalists with no regard for other tribes.

  28. #44 and #45 your were concieved through corruption and you will die in corruption.Let people express their feeling with their maximum good ideas.I know you are tongas but i dont have a problem.i dont believe in any tribe because all over Africa not a single is more intellegent than the other.Which tribe in africa is developed?Us blacks are the most gluttonous human beings on this planet thats why we have alot of tribe.Bantu speakers are one and the same.

  29. Spinka # 45 Sata is the man of the moment so dont be surprised with the support or the fanatism. # 44 Your opinion is appreciated freedom of expression as enshrined in our Human rights so let others express themselves also

  30. away from tribal statements the point that pipo are making is that politics is about confrontation and spaeking for the pipo then pipo will see that u are concerned with their welfare.the difference between sata and HH is that sata speaks for the pipo and the later is quiet when he shud speak how then will the pipo see the difference between the govt and UPND.LET HH speak then pipo will appreciate him but as things stand right now he is not equal to the task but micheal is VIVA SATA

  31. TO INSULT IS FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION????I MUST BE WAY BEHIND FOR THE YEARS I HAVE BEEN OUT OF ZAMBIA.UNITED NATIONS SHOULD RELOOK AND UPDATE ITS CHARTER.

THANKS FOR YOUR INTERLLECT ADVISE.THATS HOW FAR ZAMBIA CAN GO.UNDERSTANDING AND RESOLVING ISSUES.

  32. #46
Listen to yourself. You’re the ones who blocking people from expressing their views by insulting them and calling them tongas. Contribute positively.

  33. #42 My dear Habenzu, there nothing wrong your tribe, there alot of good people with good manners and who mixed with other tribes, but its shit like Mudenda are shitting tribal here. To hell with you ‘Bandit of yesteryears’.

  34. TO BE LOUD MOUTHED DOES NOT MEAN TO BE WISE.

WHAT HAS AN INDIVIDUAL CONTRBUTED TO THE COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE TO DESERVE CONSIDERATION FOR PRESIDENCY??

LEADERSHIP QUALITY,NON BULDOZING OF DECISIONS,NO BOOT LICKING OF INCUMBANT PRESIDENT DECISIONS,IF SAY THEY ARE ASKING FOR A THIRD TERM.

A MORBID POINT WOULD BE GOOD LEADERS DONT SMOKE.

  35. AND BY THE WAY AM NOT EVEN TONGA AM FROM THE FURTHEST PART OF NORTHERN ZAMBIA.SO OUT WITH THE TRIBAL ISSUES.

    TIRED WITH THIS EXCUSE.

  36. #44&49 Chakubaba nichini, that you are shouting your lungs out. I forbid you to shout here at this blog, why cant you contribute without shouting your lungs out. Let zedian express their feelings, this is democracy. If you are not happy with the topic just do the honorarable thing get off this blog and follow your friends Easy,Gluco,SAGE,PraMafist and others.

  37. #53 My friend, you can be Tonga or from furthest part of Northern Zambia, but here at the blog we dont entertainment tribal under any circumstances.

  38. #55-WHATEVER YOU ARE , I BEG O,PLEASE DONT DRAG ME INTO YOUR UNWORTHY AND IGNORANT CONTRIBUTIONS.

LIKE I MENTIONED EARLIER ZAMBIA IS IN MORE TROUBLE THAN YOUR PROBLEMS OF NOT HAVING SUPPER AND LODGING THE 7 OF YOU IN A BED SITTER.

PLEASE THINK OF YOUR FUTURE AND THAT OF ZAMBIA.AMBITIOUS POLITICIANS DONT HIT EACH OTHER,THEY LOOK AT CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS.

GEORGE BUSH HAS LED AMERICANS INTO IRAQ WAR,THE ASPIRANTS ARE LOOKING ON HOW THEY CAN BRING THEM OUT.

  39. # 53 who wants to know where you come from, just contribute developmental ideas. We all used to be in the garden of Eden. You cant tell me,you were created in the furthest part of northern ZAMBIA.

  40. #OJBESO, I agree with, these stupid ministers dont care because their children are abroad. By the way did you know that for a UK prime minister to send his children to schools other than public ones would a very serious political blunder? Thats how far our friends have moved. Untill the public media houses are privatised and people have a platform for taking these hyenas to task, forget about development in Zambia, trust me.

  41. Indeed it must be made criminal for politicians to go private hospitals or send their kids to private schools. Why should LPM go to a London hospital when we have Hospitals in Zambia. It Seriously says something about our infrastructure. KK may have messed up but on Hospitals i give him a thumbs up. He had faith in UTH

  42. So then what is the solution to this quagmire Zambia is in? Why is our govt always in rush to closing these institutions than sorting out the problems. Why does our govt take the money it collects from tax? What the functions of central govt? Why seem to be as if we are in war-torn country. Why are we in so much poverty? Something is seriously wrong somewhere. Who’s going to redeem us from this quagmire?

  43. #56 My friend this is zed not america or Iraq we are talking about. To hell with you if you cant be adviced!! I was merely advicing you not to brow your tongue by your shouting. I have no time for pipo who claimw to be what they are not. You are just time waster on this blog with no ideals of your own.

  44. #56 gk is back with his stupidity utterances.Mwaice gk dont think you’re 2PAC or 50 cent by pulling your pants bellow you bums and seeing Zed complex problems under your armpit.
Pipo we are all Zedian, lets stop generalising issues. If Mudenda is an imbacile just tell him off as an individual and if gk is gay, tell IT off also and knows that no one is interesting in asking bloggers like unantoka wapi, unacoka kuti, uzwa kuli, ulimusho ndo, brrrr? One Zambia One Nation.

  45. Water is life.In the book of RUFQUAH page 2763 sub section 452 state that water is life and absence of water perquisite life at obliteration. Thus, closure of Hone is welcome for it plays down out outbreak of water borne disease on behalf of students BUT first degree mistake done by FOOLISH ba MUDIDI(MMD)govt not to listen to the plight of the students in due course. The govt only responds ngapacitika ubusaso like UNZA fly over bridge, atase mukwai, shaa!Wait for Hon Sata to come and wipe your **

  46. INDENI Petroleum Refinery Company has run out of crude oil and is expected to shut down operations by Saturday. But Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary, Peter Mumba, said there was no need for panic because
he will be pumping fuel from his nose.

  47. Ba Joze …. What does the book of RUFQUAH say about someone claiming not to be carbage but stake and they end up Chikanda.

  48. Fellow bloggers… Hear me out, but i cant get past the fact that The Post did not run an article on the just ended Chingola elections in which MMD was traunced. What really is going on with M’membe? If for instance MMD won it could have been healine news. As a person who once believed in the Post and their un biased reporting back in the days i’m greatelly disappointed. i gues we should just go back and start buying Times. Is the M’mber i know still incharge?

  49. Who is LPM and Mulongoti going to blame for the eminent fuel shortages? Is it FTJ,HH,SATA or the general populous for the high consumption of fuel? These LUNATICS always try to heap blame on others for their incompetence and have BOOTLICKERS like FACT on this blog blindly supporting such *****ic behaviour.
Failure to plan is planning to fail.

  50. Chapi… Its Sad…really Sad. When you hear a country like USA has stock piles that can last 2 years. Yet in Z the most we have ever stocked is 2 weeks worth of crude. Its all in the mind set. as long as our leaders keep operating on a state of emrgency mentality we will not move forward. Did you know that even if we had money for crude we dont have facilities to stock a months stock of crude? The bottom lime is we are really in a mess. Thats what you get when you think chikanda is stake.

  51. SOCRATES
Zambia desperatelly needs a VISIONARY for a leader. If you remember the topic about VECTORS and SCALAR quntities from high school.A VECTOR quantity has magnitude plus direction while a SCALAR only has magnitude without any direction.LPM`s led gov is a good example of a SCALAR.

  52. My fellow country, not long ago, some minister i would not love to mention said that the TAZAMA pipe had been fixed and expected more than expected. We questioned to say ‘when was the pipe fixed?’the offlaod bay in tanzania has never been serviced from time KK left office.

  53. #78 everyone knows those vectors and scalar quatities. No one in Zambia has never been to school as at now.Give us solutions and that will be enough for us.Education ends in Grade twelve, what ever we do after forth is a remainder carried forward. You are being too academic thats your problem,we what to be pragmatic!

  54. There you have it. Indeni is defunct once again, and the ONGOING if not increasing corruption in Levy’s govt is laid bare by Parliament. Still, we have too many people (obviously feeding from the same corruption) that think this govt is the best thing that ever happened to our country. I have resigned.

  55. Don’t let the only world you’re ever gonna live in pass you by because there aint no heaven and aint no hell except the one we’re in. Stop waiting for your ticket to the promised land. The power is your hand.
Extract from UB 40 song DON’T LET IT PASS YOU BY.

  56. Socrates you have to read the post with a pinch of salt, if at all. They have Amos Malupenga in charge now but Mmembe is still there and i guess still influential. They run one worthy article for every 50 praises they sing in favour of LPM. Todays is a classic. Serious allegations of misappropriation are laid bare but the post cant get to mention any culprits at all. Just a generic lecture on corruption. but they have resources to pursue small issues. We-and they-know who stole kalabo road mone

  57. Iam disgruntled with this utterance, that Indeni will run short of crude oil soon.Where are planers? This is being cruel to the entire nation. Dont you know fuel is just like food for our souls if you dont eat you reliable of being sick tomorrow. Our Vehicles or anything moving o crude oil comes to a standstill immediately there is no oil to consume. Indeni Management has not learn from the happening a few months ago. Where to Zambia!!!!!!!!

  58. #85 Easy remember Nichekeleko has gone deep root at plot 1, who else can plan apart from Muwelewele and maureen then mpombo ,shikapwasha mulongoti will be used as date stamps to legimitise the corruption going on.Don’t blame indeni its the Mad Muwelewele Devils MMD myopic type of leadership that we must blame cos the chaps want Nichekeleko from illegal suppliers of crude oil iwe tawaishiba though you are MMD, Open your eyes man how destructive your party is!!MMD and Peter wants nichekeleko

  59. # 67 Wanyanya ndeumfwika pa blog though it was a hectic tiresome day so bachilolo mailo nkamitumina phone pa luchelo.Impemfu ishi shi MMD shatuchusha pafula no fuel in our cars twalapakinga its ok kabili balitwibila amavoti mu 2006 so ama villagers abavotele baleshininkisha kabili ama bus umutengo walanina oversize then Magande akabebe ati economy ilepikinga shame shaaaa

  60. Once again no oil. Let the Hardin DOCTOR and his MMD Cabinet mad patients run to indeni and urinate in those big tanks to make it full before Friday or else…

  61. Gosh!!! another fuel saga. how do i run the division? how do i transport cop evictees to heap them at the shelter at the Police Club? who should be arrested and charged over crude oil shortages?

  62. i was once a student at Evelyn Hone 27 years ago. we had water problems even then.My block was constantly short of water and the toilets were in a terrible state. Different times, same old problem!

  63. problems will never end although we can change the gorvement for several times because pf promised to do something but still now we haven’t seen their best only ababomba now what about fye basambi what are we going to do finally it will end by rioting ni cee ba hone.
