NYPM welcomes Mwaanga’s retirement from politics

Share

The National Youth Progressive Movement (NYPM) has welcomed the retirement of former Information and Broadcasting Services minister, Vernon Mwaanga from active politics.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, NYPM Spokesperson Nathan Banda urged other veteran politians to emulate Mr Mwaanga.

Mr Banda said old politicians should retire to leave room to upcoming and vibrant young politicans to take politics.

He said youths in the country were ready to take up the various challenges of leadership by promoting national unity through respect of democratic principles and youth rights.

He said this would contribute to the social – economic development at all levels and create gainful employment to the youths.

Mr Mwaanga, who is the only politician to have served in the three admministrations of Dr Kenneth Kaunda, Dr Frederick Chiluba and the current Presidednt Dr Levy Mwanawasa’s governmewnt, publicly announced his retirement from active politics yesterday.

Mr Mwaanga however said he was still in the ruling MMD adding that he was ready to play any advisory role in the party he helped found.

He called on youths in the country to take advantage of the available educationh and training opportunities.

“: We have to rise up to the occassion and make meaningful contribution to the development of our nation. We should not accept to be called future leaders as we are leaders of today not tomorrow, ” he said.

  1. Yaba ka batushe mwe.I hope others will follow too.
We are tire of the same politician who produces no fruits. Its time for MMD to look for another master dribler.

  2. Master Rigger enjoy your retirement but we will never forget how you rigged the last elections in favour of muwelewele then he discarded you like rubbish, what a bitter lesson retiring when no one needs your services?

  3. well, whatever the case might be, most importantly is that Hon VJ is out of the system. its my prayer that other finished politicians will learn from it. give chance to the young ones. u can still repent VJ. God and people may forgive u, but all u did wont be forgotten.

  5. Pliz stick to the topic, dont bring irrelevant issues. We are talking of retiring from politics here and i know one sata who is a culprit. He thinks he can be president at age what in 2011? No wonder he hounded out a young senior member of his pf.Pliz mike retire yo time is gone!

  6. #21 Chintomfwa, I concur with you. Why can’t people stick to topics and stop showing off. Going back to Mwaanga, the king is dead, long live the king. He stuck around for too long. This guy Prof. Chirwa, who is purported to be interested in running in 2011 on the MMD ticket, seems an interesting prospect. He would be a big coup for MMD and would hopefully prompt PF to look at ditching El Presidente (Honourable Sata).

  7. Embattled Oral Roberts president resigns

Leader is accused of misusing university funds to support a lavish lifestyle The president of Oral Roberts University, who is facing accusations he misspent university funds to support a lavish lifestyle, resigned from his position, officials said Friday.

  8. Richard Roberts’ resignation is effective immediately, according to a statement e-mailed from George Pearsons, chairman of the school’s Board of Regents.

Roberts and the university have come under fire since a lawsuit was filed by three former professors.

  9. The lawsuit includes allegations of a $39,000 shopping tab at one store for Richard Roberts’ wife, Lindsay, a $29,411 Bahamas senior trip on the university jet for one of Roberts’ daughters, and a stable of horses for the Roberts children.

  10. Roberts, son of school founder and televangelist Oral Roberts, had been on temporary leave from the evangelical university, fighting the accusations against him. In a recent interview, the couple denied wrongdoing.

  11. Roberts has said the lawsuit amounted to “intimidation, blackmail and extortion.”

On Friday, he said in the statement that he loved the university. He became president in 1993. “I love ORU with all my heart,” Roberts said in the statement. “I love the students, faculty, staff and administration and I want to see God’s best for all of them.”

  12. The school’s regents will meet Monday and Tuesday to determine action in the search process for a new president, Pearsons said in the statement.

Executive Regent Billy Joe Daugherty will assume the president’s administrative responsibilities, working with Oral Roberts until the regents’ meeting, the statement said.

  13. Investor must be lunatic, ranting and raving on a topic irrelevant to the discussion. Come down to earth mate or else i will have you per-booked at Chainama for tests-for free man.

  14. # 30,how bout ba wiso bakatusheko nabena,i surely dont know why u still think Sata shuld retire, ninshi tamwakabe opposition mu zambia, sata keeps the MMD on their toes evry minute, get that into your head.

  15. ##31 My father
My father retired at age 52 in 1989 from formal employment. He then had a very enriching retirement in providing guidance and counsel to his immediate and extended family. He become a cardinal member of his local residential and church community and would always be a stabilising factor whenever there was misunderstanding between people younger than him.He died last year aged 69 a contented and peaceful man.

At his age Sata needs to be mentoring young ones in leadership.

  16. Still i dont think Sata is that old to retire from politics if anything Dr LPM shuld be the one to retire on medical grounds.Take a chill pill everything will be alright Citiz…

  17. # Roy,
Roy instead of rooting for Sata or LPM who are both past their shelf lives in politics why cant we begin pushing up leadeship from our generation to take overat the next elections. In mind I have progressives like Given Lubinda, Kapembwa Simbao and I am sure many others being overshadowed by mandarins like Sata. KK was president at 40 Chiluba at 45 and both performed i their early years as Presidents due to their young minds which could grasp real issues. Unlike Sata .

  18. All that being said about our king cobra is totally rubbish please give the old man chance to come and sweep whre the finished broom muwelewele has failed to clean

  19. Politicians should learn that they is live after politics. Ask John Haward he will tell you what happened to him last nite. VJ thank you for your services from being Zambias representative at UN to 21 many minister portfolios including your kachepa job you were actually the one ruling Zed. I hope you will join Mudenda at the village and become the headman of Mwanambiya village those pipo miss your services. This is your chance take it.

  20. Investor and Chapi, Please stop showing your irrelevant minds on this blog, (Cut and Paste bullshit) Why don’t you stick to what is being discussed here? If you want to be creative, bring an idea of your own, not that corporate crap that we all can read in the Financial times, business week, wall street jornal etc. Naimwe ba Chapi, who do you think is interested in that Roberts family business story, we all know that religious leaders in the US are all a bunch of frauds.

  21. irrelevant investor.you’ve just shown yourself to be an ignorant fellow who doesn’t know much about investments. stop ranting and keep to our local story at hand. you think tizazizimuka when you talk about oral whatever or that buffet chap? keep the BS to yourself.

  22. #5 So PRAGmafist, whats the relevance of that crap to the blogg. Stick to the topic or just continue enjoying your mantalakwa and stop boring us.

  23. Well done VJ faithful servant, it takes a guy like VJ to bootlick KK,FTJ n LPM.Next to go; SATA, Veep Banda, LPM,etc. Zed only need exposed and fresh brains, Go Prof. Chirwa. We tired of re-cycling ,we try paper now not leaders.Go .. Youthful Zambia, Go HH.

  24. Bane Bushe Muwelewele alikwi.. He missed the commonwealth meeting in Uganda where he would have paraded his foolishness elyo he has not commented since the loss of Nchanga leaving the ill mannered Tetamashimba and Shakafunswa rantting like doggs on hit…

By the way bushe mwalishiba ati Muwelewele has been trying to prop up Kabinga Pande for the Presidency.. Elyo Kabinga’s true name I just discovered from his former schoolmate in Ndola was Jackass Mpande…

  25. Iwe Miyoba…

Bushe ulemona ati Ba Chirwa natu Physics twabo kuti bawina amapolitics… Bakenda nesapato ishabeyama..Pembela

  26. #29 what makes you think he cannot win? Think big about yourself and any thing will be possible. The chap is as smart as they come. I hope he is serious with his intentions.

  27. #30 I concur with you. let us bring some sense in zambian politics. behind the scenes mwanawasa has already chosen CChirwa to be his successor. Wait and see.

  28. Age has nothing to do with leadership. Churchill, (UK’s Greatest PM ever) served upto the age of 81! Hitler at only 56 he ran out of ideas and committed suicide.

Clive if a crashworthiness physicist. How will that help when is comes to dealing with issues of reviving Zambia’s economy, creating jobs, social welfare, national unity etc?

The father of physics, Isaac Newton was never called upon to be a political leader, nor Einstein.

We need political leaders – Viva SATA!

  29. Before sata started ranting about politics he was a cop.mwanawasa a lawyer, chiluba a conductor, chabinga a marketeer. Anybody, regardless of background can rule as long he or she has the will to do it.How about the politics of ranting versus the politics of reasoning? By the way #32 you are not supposed to be called for you to serve.Give yourself to the cause.

  30. #29 What education has sata? The man feels he can do it, just like sata when he was dumped by FTJ.FTJ saw something U guys do not see.Anyway, by 2011 sata will be a fossil, looks like one already.I’m saying we need fresh ideas no chachacha heroes here.High morality leaders, not smoking cigars in public, come on zambia deserves better. We had unionist, lawyer, etc lets go for an economist or scientist. We do not need a hassler … u know who?

  31. # 33 if what you are saying is anything to go by, then the only candidate is Sata because he has been a serving politician for long enough and has proved he has the will and ability. no crashworthiness experiments. Newton etc new where they performed best and kept away from “giving themselves to the cause.” Unlike Clive

Miyoba – What FTJ saw in sata was that Sata would selflessly serve the people and not FTJ’s interest so he dumped him, thinking he could control Levy, but alas.

    Viva – SATA

  32. #33 if what you are saying is anything to go by, then the only candidate is Sata because he has been a serving politician for long enough and has proved he has the will and ability. No crashworthiness experiments. Newton etc knew where they performed best and kept away from “giving themselves to the cause.” Unlike Clive

Miyoba – What FTJ saw in sata was that Sata would selflessly serve the people and not FTJ’s interest so he dumped him, thinking he could control Levy, but alas.

    Viva – SATA

  33. #36 You do not get it.We are in this situation becoz of settling for less. What experinece do we need from sata? The man has been part of the mess for years. Our generation of 35-55 yrs has had no chance of leadership coz of pipo like u, who think an old tried broom is better than a modern one.On a lighter note, the is not photogenic, he will scare investors. Just joking man do not take this issues so personal. Sata talks bull, how can u reduce tax & build houses in 3mths.Do u buy this? Viva HH,CC

  34. #37 Have you ever had a look at the demography of the age distribution in Zambia? I advise you to see that the majority your age group 35-55 is in urban Zambia. These represent the masses that voted for Sata, so when you say pipo like me you mean the majority of your peers want Sata. The majority of comsopolitan Zambia want to be in PF, read out manifesto.

  35. Bane Let us not be ignorant of how politics involve around the world. When we delve into the history of politics and those that cotrol political thought, we will be surprised that many of the the leaders have an average age of 65 years.

Look at ancient Rome during the era of it dominance, coming to Greece, cross the Red Sea and anchor in the harbor of Persia, cross the mountains and enter the land of Pussia landing in the land of the Suxxons and Ostrogoths, all these place will remind of how

  36. … age brings maturity to political thought. Urguably, a mixture of age makes the system better, but when you have people that think that the likes of Sata will be fossils, then we are missing the point of what politics is all about.

I am of the understanding that the chains of politics in Zambia need to have the likes of Sata to keep the wheels running otherwise we shall have foolish Shaka and Teta influencing the president with their own agenda

  37. #41, you’ve been infused with sata mentality for a long time. I can’t blame you. UMWANA USHENDA ATASHA NYINA UKUNAYA.

  38. We are dealing wit globalization, economic dev, etc.The oldies dealt wit colonial oppression, wars, etc.The world has changed gents. We need guys who have used pcs in power for them to unleash pc potential. We need a modern information sys, bar coded reg. cards, etc.We will be able to business easily wit the world. The world will want to invest in zed. This will create more job oppotunities reduce poverty, etc, etc.Politics of aggressive opposition is way behind this era. When ar U goin to lead #41?

  39. And U, #41 I mean that age group in urban zambia, that age group that voted voted PF and want to be in the PF, I guess ur ar in PF.When is ur next elect. congress in PF.Ur pres. has been dismal in 2 elections, can’t give another person a chance, aaaha .. have u been satanised? I only hear of PF youth fighting, give me leadership material. And u can be one, if only if, u start thinkin like that.Who challenges sata in PF? Party that are based on persons or cliches go nowhere, ask UPND.

  40. as long as someone can speak good english behave will expecially when representing zed @ those Meeting these people go to everyday with their wives i dont no why the carry them and most of have the PHD, MASTERS DOCTRIT and certficates it dosnt matter we have the most educated pipo as our leaders has their education changed a thing apart of the in fact i dont see any reason why som1 lsong which is sang poverty eraducatin without actin lik a kabova can live the streets of LSK bcam a prs

  41. #45 Dude, i see that you have some good points, but think before you write. I can’t understand what you are saying.Never mind about spelling, but be constructive in your writing.

  42. While I concur with all of you advocating for veterans politicians to call it a day, or throw in towel, I here by point out that the case in hand (Mwaanga’s) is totally wrong and misleading, thus not a good example. It would have suucised if Mwaanga resigned from active politics whilst aminister..leave office all the allowance, and prestigeous GX for quite life of a retiree. But not wait until he is fired and stripped off nomination to parliament. This may not be genuine resignation but frustration..once an opportunity knocks on his do, believe you me, he will response to National duty-as he says always. WATCH OUT….!
