Govt striving to have 50% of youths in employment by 2015

Share

Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Child Development Angela Cifire has disclosed that government was working towards having 50 per cent of youths in employment by the year 2015.

Ms. Cifire said government, through the national youth policy, was focusing on having 30 per cent young people in all levels of decision making in the country in the next eight years.

She said the young people should be guided to make decisions that would make them productive in the country.

She has since called on parents, guardians and other adults to provide love and guidance to the young people for them grow into respectable and responsible citizens of Zambia.

Ms. Cifire was speaking today when she launched the “Love Re-defined Project” under the Motivated Generation International organisation for youths at Lusaka’s Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

And former Vice President, Nevers Mumba urged young people to make right decisions so that they did not regret when they are old.

Earlier, MGI President, Steady Phiri said time has come for young people to stand up and redefine their values for them to be responsible people in society.

  1. Sorry its not duty of the sport ministry to reduce unemployment. What is the Labour ministry doing these are sleeping workers who are accumulating GRZ salaries for nothing.

  2. Often, we hear accusations that businessmen and fund managers are money grubbers- too wrapped up in the pursuit of money that they are not interested in some of the natural gifts of life in regard of the poor. Accusations hint that, they have missed out on the purpose of life. That is a totally misleading anomaly.

  3. The truth is that responsible capitalism makes the fruits of individual labor available to the masses, and thus makes life better for all involved. This is the true purpose of responsible capitalism. It is the reason why many people choose to participate in this economic system.

  4. Second, responsible capitalism is as moral as it could be. Least we overlook the words of Adam Smith when he said “it is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest”.

  5. Smith felt that self-interest is the psychological need to win favor and prosperity within one’s society. Realistically self-interest and moral sentiments are the same thing. Therefore, our responsible capitalism in Zambia by definition is moral. Now could we count on the need of all progressives in Zambia to succeed and be the moral fiber in our responsible capitalism?

  6. Can we count on the government to level the playing field by means of distribution of income surplus? Can we trust politicians to carry out on their promises to do so once voted into office? If not, how can we ensure that our system is moral? What free-market economic principles teach us the value of morals in capitalism? Does capitalism even need morals?

  7. I personally feel we should not count on the systems to be moral, but count on ourselves as individuals and the people invovled in the systems. Change like success is a progress thus far on the right track.

  8. Investor always blogs on a different topic can you please asses his blogs before posting them or block him.He makes the blog boring.

  9. Ba Cathy (11) & 10,
You are exhibiting a split personality. It seems as if some of you chaps are suffering from a willful confusion. Reflect at your “selective morality” and explicate. It is only wise to expose some you lopsided charlatans for your wanton hypocrisy herein. This blog has always had diversity from rubbish to substance. Life is not all about entertainment but substance. What you don’t fit in, leave it for those who do.

  10. CELTEL ZAMBIA TO LIST 20 PCT SHARES, INCREASE USERS
. Celtel Zambia, the country’s largest mobile firm, said on Wednesday it would list 20 percent of its shares on the Lusaka Stock Exchange next year and predicted its subscriber base would reach 2.7 million by December 2008.Celtel Zambia is a unit of Celtel, which is owned by Kuwait’s MTC TELE.KW and runs networks in 14 African countries

  11. “We hope very much to list on the Lusaka Stock Exchange as early as possible in 2008 … in terms of size, we are still thinking of 20 percent of the shares,” Celtel Zambia managing director David Venn told a news conference.Venn said Celtel Zambia’s application to list the shares was yet to be approved by the state-run Securities Exchange Commission.

  12. From 1.3 million subscribers in January, Venn said Celtel users should reach 2 million before the end of December.”We are still in heavy investment mode and that continues in 2008. This year our growth will be 700,000 customers and we expect the same growth for next year,” he said.

  13. Venn said Celtel, which spent $140 million to upgrade and expand its network in 2007, would spend a similar amount next year, although this had not yet been approved by shareholders.Demand for African mobile assets is booming as operators from South Africa, Europe and the Middle East pay fat multiples for a slice of some of the world’s last unsaturated markets.

  14. Official data shows that only 21 percent of Zambia’s 11.5 million people currently use mobile phones.”We (Celtel Zambia) are sure we can get to 40 percent of the population and Celtel will get most of those,” Venn added.Celtel has 80 percent of the Zambian market and competes with MTN (MTNJ.J: Quote, Profile, Research) and Cell-Z, a subsidiary of the state Zambia Tele-communications Company Ltd.

  15. In its release of its subscriber numbers for the quarter to end-September, South Africa’s MTN reported 194,000 subscribers in Zambia. (Editing by Ron Derby and David Cowell)

  16. Such are opportunities smart people never allow them to slip off without gaining from.Ever known of the 1 (1¢) saving effect? Try it every year from January to December 30,2008.start with 1¢ on January 1,2008 and every day saving the product of 2 of the following day’s value since the 1¢.

    This means;
    January 1,2008=1¢

    January 2,2008:[1¢]*[2[=2¢

    January 3,2008:[2¢]*[2[=4¢

    January 4,2008:[4¢]*[2]=8¢

    Its more than mathematical permutation

  17. Learn how to revolutionize your market strategy and add focus and power to your business! Smart budgeting a factor to your success- an accurate estimation of the revenue and expenses over a specified future period of time than too much debt.

  18. Operate from within your budget. A budget links tasks to be performed with the amount of resources necessary to accomplish those tasks, ensuring that money is available for all undertakings. It limit expenditures to the revenues available, to ensure balance and prevent overspending.

  19. A budget is a microeconomic concept that illuminates into the tradeoff made when one good is exchanged for another.A surplus budget means profits are anticipated, a balanced budget means revenues are expected to equal expenses and a deficit budget means expenses will exceed revenue.Budgets are usually compiled and re-evaluated on a periodic basis.

  20. Adjustments are made to budgets based on the goals of the budgeting organization. In some cases, budget makers are happy to operate at a deficit, while in other cases, operating at a deficit is seen as financially irresponsible. With very little effort or sacrifice, budgeting allows you to plan for your future, pay off your debts and still enjoy life today.

  21. But public budgets are not merely technical, managerial documents; they are also intrinsically and appropriately political.

    Importantly,

    -Budgets reflects choices

    -Budget reflect priorities

-Budgets reflects the relative proportion of decisions

-Budgets Provides powerful tools for accountability

    -Budgets reflects Citizen s’ preferences

-At national level budgets influence the economy

-Budgets reflects the relative power of individuals and interest Groups to influence outcomes.

  22. I WISH YOU PROSPERITY IN 2008 AND AWARENESS OF PUBLIC POLICY DYNAMICS.

Hope you will take keen interest in planning for your new year and open up Debate for the National budget. Hon.Magande a veteran MoF Permanent Secretary, and Budgets Director holding a Masters Degree in applied Economics will be presenting it in Parliament.

    Signed off.

  23. Editor, is this the way Zambians’d be blogging? Investor is boring many people with his ideas he doesnt understand. 10-15 consecutive posts from one misinformed guy is quite some patience. Am sure you notice that each day that passes there are less and less of sensible debates and more juvenile thoughts being expressed. well, am heading towards the door too

  24. Trust me LPM would not last two months in a foreign land with his retarded*+*#? he thinks life is easy..? does he know what we go through to make ends meet. I feel offended? people that have lived in a foreign land will never understand. come live here and see if you will come out with alot of money…. with your retarded self? this is some bull crap!

  25. Francis,
You are a typical “Sissy”. A total misfit in diversity.I just told off “cathy” the straight jacket in # 12.Your effeminate and failed behavior short of a traditional male gender role is shameful.Yours is“selective morality”. Who told you that all has to be in your test in a public domain? That is too childish of you. Some of us appreciate Investor’s input. Do you think everybody went to school of empty rhetoric you represent here?

  26. Investor, ignore charlatants suffering from a willful confusion. It is only wise to expose some you lopsided charlatans for your wanton hypocrisy. This blog has always had diversity from extreme rubbish to substance. Life is not all about what Sissies want but challenging substance.Grow up and handle “catch 22” even in pain.

  27. Until we can guarantee every youth a place in school up to grade 12, at the very least, talking about youth employment is premature. Every child who drops out of the school system without the basic skills of reading and writing is a potential burden to society. I appreciate the role that sport can play in reducing youth unemployment, but not all of us are blessed with athletic prowess. Current and future governments need to prioritise access to basic education for every child.

  28. It appears to me that Investor has just discovered the joy of attending higher education and studying economics. You can tell by the way he thinks the world of Magande’s MSc. Don’t be too hard on him. He is like a child in the sweet shop. Eventually he will tire of the sweets and ask mummy to take him home!

  29. Growing up in the 70s’ so many things where projected to be done by the year 2000! wella , it came and passed and life is getting worse!!

  34. A.C your projection of youth unemployment is meaningless that is the reason you see unrelated topics being brought in.Be specific and realistic.
Mind you new youths are joining the “labour office” every year, and many others would be missed out by your 2015.
Anyhow a good start would be to STOP recycling politicians year in year out to give room to youthfull ideas from new brooms,AND PLEASE keep out nepotism for a change!!!!

  35. On Sunday Mr Mugabe was reported to have lambasted four EU countries for “arrogance” in their criticisms, according to a copy of a speech at a closed meeting obtained by French news agency AFP.His comments came in response to German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s earlier assertion that his policies had “damaged Africa”.

  36. “It is important that people keep in mind that Africans fought for human rights from oppressive rule,” said Mr Mugabe, who is regarded by many African leaders as the heroic liberator of Zimbabwe.

  37. Youth employment…grreeeat!!! why not revisit the youth service schemes?
ost of our brothers and sisters who made youth service are the ones holding on to the jobs they should be retiring from. What they see in us today is all the negative”DIS” words you can think of. In their eyes we can’t much their calibre. The blogging I witness here makes me ashamed to be a Zambian youth, though personally successful. Lets give the elders some food for thought when they discuss youths. Be responsible.
