Auditor General releases report on Tomorrow Investment to Levy

Share

The Auditor General, Anna Chifungula, has released her interim report on Tomorrow Investment to President Levy Mwanawasa according to the presidential directive.

Public Relations Officer in the office of the Auditor Genral, Ellen Chikale, told ZANIS in Lusaka today that the report was submitted last Friday to the President for his scrutiniy and further action. Copies of the report were also released to other investigative wings of government for their perusal.

As a result of findings on Tomorrow Investment, the Auditor General has also extended investigations to other firms that have been awarded government contracts in the country.

A sample of other contracts awarded to other firms by government also revealed poor performance and other anomalies.

“In my view, I feel the investigations have to be on all firms that have been receiving government contracts. For instance, one wonders why in one place a contract is terminated due to poor performance in one province, and in another, a contract is awarded to the same firm to carry out works in a different province.

“These involve billionsof Kwacha that are being awarded to firms despite them being cited as having performed poorly,” the Auditor Genral observed.

In her report, Ms Chifungula adds, “These and many more issues are what we feel we should dwell into and exhaust all investigations of other firms being awarded contracts by government in the country.”

The office of the Auditor General will keep the public informed of its findings once the reports are tabled in parliament.

Last week, President Levy Mwanawasa directed the office of the Auditor General to institute investigations on Tomorrow Investment, a local construction firm, for allegedly performing poor work in several parts of the country while continuouly being awarded government contracts.

  1. It is a bit unfair on Tomorrow Investment (TI) for the AG to be widening the scope of the investigation at the time when TI have asked the government to put up or shut up. They are supposed to come up with hard facts implicating TI, not going off tangent looking at other firms’ transgressions. If the AG has nothing on TI specifically, she should say so and the minister should appologise. Otherwise TI would be justified in going to court to clear their name.

  2. Mr president you have better things to do. Where is your vice? If there is something wrong, the auditor general should report all transgressions to the attorney general’s office for prosecution. Is it may be this company did not give you the 10% you were promised?

  3. Villagers in Chief Kapoma’s area in S. Province have called upon the President to instruct the inspector General of Police arrest a Head teacher for abuse of 70 thousand Kwacha school grant. Both the Regional Police and District police officials have refused to comment indicating that cases of plunder are dealt at a high level.

Two days ago the District Commissioner issued instructions to heads of departments urging them to always wait for the presidents opnion before acting.

  4. Why people in our governmental are so incompetent? How can one government terminate a contract one day and just to see the same firm being awarded another contract!!! I thing in Zed we have two governments or the firm is a dont touch one coz it belongs to those bwanas in the political realm!!!

  5. yes # 2 should shut up,i concur with # 1,chuchu made the revelations in public ku rally,we demand that the report be published.we dont want to see a repeat of gladys nyirongo lands saga where he fired her pending investigations, yet the case looks like a closed case and her bp has since cooled down

  6. #7 andrew,
Who told you that the Land case has gone to dogs? Be careful you are committing perjury. Just last week your Rev was in court. This is for your own good. Makig false statements can see you being imprisoned. Bring facts here! You harvest what you see!!!!

  7. #1 GLUCO there is no need of publishing the fundings of the AG until the case is closed. If want to know anything walk in the office of the AG and ask to be shown the investigations report. You can inform a thief that you are coming to arrest him because he can run away. Here its INVESTIGATIONS first

  8. I am not surprised that Tomorrow Investments is being investigated! The directors have blood of plunderers. Chiluba’s by-products

  9. I am now left in limbo, not knowing the role of the police, CID, anti corruption dept and other auxiliary bodies related to fighting crime. Levy is the policeman, prosecutor and judge. That is why even the villagers, #4, would call on this plot 1 policeman to arrest the head teacher! I wonder why even a contractor’s misdeed has to go to State House for instructions. Either our agencies are incompetent or someone is making them so by crippling their wings making them failures, institutions

  10. On paper, the president may receive a lot of kudos. In reality however, it exposes leadership deficiencies. Since our judicially “cannot” also execute judgment on these cases I would urge the government to reserve one wing at the new Magistrates court for Brown and his cronies to prosecute all others cases ranging from child defilers to contract abusers. After all it is a good omen for Zambia, a modern revisit to expatriate era of post independent Zambia! Congrats Mr. President!

  11. TI is not the only company that is doing shoddy work on our roads, even urner Construction who was given roads in chingola (Nchanga North) is the same or worse, can someone please investigate? our leadership here cant do anything because they are in Lusaka attending NCC conference.

  12. TI still busy plundering many years after its performance, competence and financial indiscipline was questioned several years ago by government of Mwanawasa? I will take a chance maybe I can also get a fast buck pa Zed! ha ha ha…..
