Three miners injured at Chinese coal Mine

Share

Three people have been injured at the Chinese Collum coal mine when the rocks under the ground fell on them in Sinazeze in Southern Province.

One of the injured workers, Jerical Siankuku told ZANIS at his bed side in Maamba Hospital that the rocks fell on them as they were trying to drill underground to extract coal.

Siankuku said the rock fell on his back borne and the legs.
He named the other injured workers as Syndicate Ijeki who was injured on the collar borne while Member Chifwela sustained bruises on his head and the collar borne.

Siankuku noted that the safety at the mine was inadequate as several accidents occur at the mine without being reported and the victims were not even compensated.

“Right now if my backborne won’t be healed I am doomed for life because several of my friends who are crippled have not been compensated,” Siankuku bemoaned.

Nkandabbwe ward Councillor Patson Mangunje confirmed the development that it was unfortunate that the Chinese coal Collum mine were failing to observe safety measures to protect miners underground.

He reaffirmed that the Chinese were failing to compensate the injured workers adding that the mine has not paid the three miners who were crippled last year as result of the underground accidents.
Mr. Mangunje condemned the Mine Safety Inspectors for failing to conduct proper inspection at the Chinese mine because two days after their inspections the accident occurred on Monday.
He alleged that the inspectors only visits management and fail to talk to workers who were the most affected when accidents occur.

  1. Fire the Mine Inspectors and close down any mine with any fatality or serious injury. All our coal mines must be repossessed as coal is a strategic energy source just like uranium and must be safeguarded.

Vupuba vibanthu mu mmd. All they think about is money for themselves instead of creating a country that will be a pleasure to live in for all citizens.

  2. What do you expect from chinese! Its always accidents, accidents! Chuchu ‘s gvt is quite until a nasty fatality or serious disaster happens thats when there be accident inquiries! CHUCHU WAKE UP your good favourite chinese friends are killing our brothers in Sinazeze through negligence zzziiiiiiii!

  3. I blame the so-called safety inspectors……pliz strength the capacity of these chaps….and put in place punitive measures for these mine owners who do not comply! and also pay them well to avoid bribes.

  4. #3 I totally agree with you. After all, the words ‘CHINESE’ and ‘TRAGEDY’ have the same number of letters. And it doesn’t matter whether it is in Zambia or in China itself. Industrial safety is one area we can teach the Chinese and even export that expertise to china – I mean in addition to copper!

  5. I hope people know that the world is running out of coal and so its better to keep these coal mines in the hands of the state since the so called foreign investors won’t take proper care of them. We have given them too much freedom. It’s time to show them that this is our country and when in Rome, you do as the Romans do…

    • Why doesn’t America’s nuclear ctimunmoy run ads like this? 35 years ago while doing some chemical engineering support work at my company’s coal plants, I discovered the relatively high radioactive levels of coal fly ash while leak checking the Alpha sources used to detect coal feeder blockage. I compiled a report, submitted it to my boss, and he tore it up before my eyes, sternly admonishing, Coal money builds nukes. We don’t bite the hand that feeds us. Plus, we don’t need an anti-coal-radiation movement [screwing] things up like with nukes. I think a similar executive perspective exists with America’s utilities to this day. Coal is still king, and they want to keep it that way. Nuke competition is to be shunned. Reply

    • something about coal and all the others (4 in all) said alomst in unison: Uh, like, What’s coal? Needless to say it raised a few giggles and nasty looks from the locals. South Wales was for some time among the world leaders in coal mining. We also had our (un)fair share of disasters and the waste tips are as high as any of the mountains around my home town of Caerphilly. My apologies for such a badly constructed reply. Spent a little too much time drinking with friends and family last night! Reply

  6. You know even in their country they never cared for workers in their mines. what makes you think they will change this time. Fire the inspector and have someone who is more independent of these corrupt people.our people will finsih dying while the mines bring nothing to them and only enrich the chiness.

  7. Country men and women,Let us tell this gvt that we don’t want investors that are costing our brothers’s lives! we want investors that brings development and pay their workers resonable salaries and provide them with security and safty at all cost.

  8. I have tried to publish the link where the untold stories about chinese investors are told, but the times is refusing me to publish it! I therefore urge you to go to google China’s africa takeover. read the stories about the unfairnes of our government and their investors.

Chinese are not interested in the safty or paywell our people but their needs and build Beijing! and benefits our ministers who signs the contract. I very sad to see how these people are treating us like this, when we are a peacful country and don’t hate anybody! lets open our eyes! they do things secretive! why! and when we ask,we are blocked! wht are they hidding from us?

  9. Do not advise the government by attacking it,you are just helping problems to grow. Just make suggetions, it will benefit all of us .
