Zambian worried over safety of his relatives in SA

Share

A Zambian Citizen with relatives in South Africa has expressed worry over the safety of his relatives in that country.

Sydney Kayombo said since the attacks began in south Africa, he had failed to communicate with them.

Watching images on violence attacks on the internet, Mr Kayombo described the situation as pathetic and hoped that perpetrators would be condemned by all peace loving people.

In an interview with ZANIS in Kitwe today, Mr. Kayombo said Zambia had contributed to South Africa’s labour force in the 1900s and its struggle against apartheid.

He said people mainly from western and north western provinces were taken to work in the gold mines during that time.

He further said the brutality on foreigners shows that there was something wrong in the governance of that country.

Recently, hundreds of foreigners including some Zambians became victims of Xenophobic attacks in some South African townships.

The Zambian government says the number of Zambians who are homeless in South Africa following the xenophobic attacks in that country has risen to 149 from about 109 recorded on Friday last week.

Home Affairs Minister Ronnie Shikapwasha says Government is making arrangements through the Zambian High Commission in South Africa to facilitate the return of about 30 Zambians who have expressed interest in coming back.

General Shikapwasha said the xenophobic attacks in South Africa have continued to be a source of worry.

General Shikapwasha was speaking during the 24th Synod meeting of the United Church of Zambia, UCZ, in Kabwe recently.he church  to take an aggressive approach in dealing with issues that are robbing humankind of love and destroying lives.

  1. Check these so called zambians one-by-one.They are a bunch of congolese and zimbabweans, I guarantee it.If not all of them.

  2. Mr Sydney Kayombo, what are their names, where were they staying in South Africa and what were they doing there?

This would help those who may help you sir – Mr Sydney Kayombo.

“Home Affairs Minister Ronnie Shikapwasha says Government is making arrangements through the Zambian High Commission in South Africa to facilitate the return of about 30 Zambians who have expressed interest in coming back.”…. What is the Foreign Affairs Minister doing?

I thought the Home Affairs Minister has to concentrate on home (Zambia) issues!

  3. as every zambian should be , i feel sorry for the man . losing family is a difficult experience and its worse when you are in the dark about their plight.
    May God be with him

  4. #1, COULD BE VERY RIGHT. There are so many foreigners who are holding a Zambian passport illegaly at home and abroad due to our corrupt system. Seriously, check those alleged Zambians 1 by 1. But, since pports are obtained by those pipo in Zambia or abroad (through corrupt means), that check will not even happen. If it does it will just be a hoodwink. This is Zambia for you. Everything is just given to foreigner, while Zambians wait months or years on end for their pports.

  5. #2 Some duties by govt. ministries do overlap. Anyhow, for your information, the Zambia High Commission in Pretoria is an office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. To ask what the Minister of Foreign Affairs is doing is, i think, being myopic on how government works. H.E. Mbula is a direct representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  6. To all bloggers with relatives in RSA, let not the media alarm you about the number of Zambians caught up in the Xenophobia mess. The Violence ended 2 weeks ago and life has almost gone back to normal.I strongly believe the number of Zambians affected was minimal and it could be the number of pipo wanting to go back. Those that dont want to go back to Z are either congolese , zimbos, etc. The conditions for these refugeee camps are terrible i dont think any normal Zambian would want to stay there rather they go back home.

  7. Ama Zedians bali kwata pride. They can not stay in those camps and definitely cant stick around to wait for GRZ transport. If there are any that were affected believe me they are already in Zed. Them so called 149 “Zambians” are Angolans,Congolese, Tanzanians, Malawians and Zimbabweans…

  8. #14, your comment was of help to many of us, but the bit were you said…’To ask what the Minister of Foreign Affairs is doing is, i think, being myopic on how government works’…was plain rude and uncalled for. Some people like myself work in the private sector and have only a slight idea about how govt works. In my world overlap of duties is considered inefficient. So you’d expect me to be supprised when I see it in ministries but definately not myopic. Anywaz, like #13 said, thanks for the clarification.

  9. #11, you’re ver right.

Do the country a favour…pressurise the authorities that be that side to investigate those claimants. Lend them a hand if they say they have no manpower. We certainly don’t want ’em illegals in Zed.

  10. #16 There a lot illegal Zambians in London, what are you doing about this?

You should not complain about illegal people coming to your country when your country men and woman walk the streets of London with 8 different names to concel their identity

  11. #17, I’m not in London, and all the Zambians I know living in London aren’t illegals. I’m inclined to think your assertion is just that, an assertion, and not a fact. But assuming you’re a bit right…just becoz they’re my country men and women doesn’t make what they’re doing right. Living in a foreign country is not wrong, especially if that’s where you find your buttered bread. But failing to legalize your living is. I don’t encourage illegal migration whether Zambian or not. And when I talk about illegals I don’t mean refugees. Refugees are not illegal immigrants. Just because my fellow country men and women choose to live in London illegally doesn’t mean I must accept illegals in Zed.

  12. I met a “Austin Phiri”, and evry1 incl. me was excited to have another zambian in our midst.I approached him and introduced myself, the guy shied away.I pursued him again, only for him to confess he had passport done by a g/friend in Lsk, he is actually Nigerian. I was abit disappointed but just forgot about it.We always hear a zambian has been caught with drugs only to find its a nigerian brother. The SA based officials should screen these guys before transporting them to Lsk.

  13. these nothing like “illegals”. They are just explorers like David Livingstone and the cronies alike. Yes “African Explorers”

  14. Xenophobia mess. is a product of years of mistreatment. The problem is the people who committed the atrocities against the poor south African blacks didd not pay for there wrongs now the anger is being vented on innocent victims.

  15. Kayombo is a common Zambian name among Mbundas in Western Province and Luvales in North Western and other allied tribes in Zambia as well as in Angola and CONGO DR.

Lets not be Xenophobic by isinuating that Kayombo’s relatives might not be Zambians. ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION

  16. Miyoba, don’t display your rampant ignorance! Pick up your history books & read about the LUBA-LUNDA empire. Descendants of this empire today inhabit mainly four provinces of zambia: Luapula, Northern, Northwestern & Copperbelt. Borders were created by your colonial masters! Like it or not, there are many millions of us who are proud to be both zambians as well as descendants of the Luba- lunda empire – WE HAVE NOT COMMITED ANY CRIME, CIRCUMSTANCES OF NATURE, or RATHER POLITICS HAVE MADE US BOTH! So do watch your language, with your use of the connotation, “Congolese”!

  17. We have some Zambians in S Africa and we have some who are not but claiming to be. When u ask them where they come from you will be suprised at the answers.

  18. Nangu twali chula kwena but this is not how to report on another African country. This was taken from an IOL article

Lusaka – There are more than 1 million children in full-time employment in the impoverished southern African country of Zambia, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) said Thursday.

  19. lets not bullcrap anyone, there are no Zed ppl in the townships in S.A, the only ones there are zimbos, congolese etc. i know zed peeps are only in the ‘burbs, zed people dont come to struggle here, and for sure if it was wild for them now they would have found their own way. even those that hustle major would sooner be held up in hillbrow or sumn rather than pimville, or diepsloot.. c’mon. the only time zed ounes are in alex is to drink or work as a mechanic and get back to his place ni the evening, not living in a bloody shack. elo this stuff stopped a long time ago. i got the solution, lets just all move to the ‘burbs..
