ULP rules out possibility of merger with UPND

Share

A United Liberal Party official in Kafue says the party will not take the invitation by UPND to join the party seriously because the UPND has not changed for the better from the time, Anderson Mazoka, died.

ULP Southern Province Vice Chairman, Manda Mwansa, has charged that UPND President, Hakainde Hichilema, is being unrealist by inviting ULP to join UPND and form one party.

Speaking in an interview in Kafue today, Mr Mwansa said that UPND has not shown any remorse for the violence, corruption and tribalism some members of the party have allegedly exhibited since the demise of late leaders Mazoka.

Mr Mwansa instead advised Mr Hichilema to consider joining ULPsaid it is Hakainde who should join ULP as he has allegedly exhibited desperation to work with ULP leader Sakwiba Sikota.

He said Mr Sakwiba has leadership attributes necessary for leading a nation.

He accused Mr Hichilema of having destroyed UPND by appointing more of his tribesmen to run affairs of the party.

Mr Mwansa also disclosed that more than 200 cadres have defected from UPND to join ULP because the party has lost vision based on principles and integrity.

  1. Politricks of poverty will never take us no place.Every one wants to be at plot one while we just have one state house out there.

  2. HH is a businessman who takes opportunities on where he sees profits,he thought he would just come & reap where he didnt plant,he chased the original UPND big guns, when he saw he wasnt going anywhere he pushed himself to bulldoze FDD & UNIP in his quest for power, now clearly he sees himself with no chance of winning in the general election, now that king cobra has gone back to his original MMD & he wants Saki to help him, suddenly he want Saki on his chimbayambaya bus – but it seems clear to me that that is not possible – in part because Saki has his own bus which is fully fueled, fit, & traveling on an entirely different road – a road that follows the good of people not the flow of cash.

  3. why do you think sikota is bitter? i dont really hear sikota crying much… i mean he’s not the one asking for anything from anyone here is he? HH seems to be the one asking for something. so where is the bitterness?

  4. “Duplicate comment detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that!”

LT, PLS, FIX UR WEBSITE. I WAS TRYING TO POST A COMMENT. THE ABOVE WAS THE RESPONSE FROM YOUR SYSTEM EVEN IF THERE WAS NO DUPLICATE AT ALL.

OR TELL ME/US THE CRITERIA OF DUPLICATION.

  5. I believe that inviting a breakaway unit to rejoin the main party is a sign of strength and maturity rather than a sign of weakness.
HH and Saki have to sit and iron out their main differences and try and seek the way forward.
They do not have to be best buddies in the process.
Take a leaf from Obama and Clinton who for national and party unity are now singing from the same hymn sheet in order to win the general elections.
Even the fistof fury between Kibaki and Odinga finally ended in dialogue.

  6. I think the complaints about slow access and duplicated messages could be down to ISPs as i have not experienced such since i started contributing to these sessions.

  7. Why is the MEDIA focusing so much on HH.

    What are they afraid of.

It seems to me that certain people are Afraid of HH. They have realized that he is slowly becoming a force to be reckoned with. If they had to pass the bill about candidates needing certain academic requirements to stand for office or the one for age restrictions to presidency, HH cannot be shaken. They cannot pass any legal law that will stop HH from standing for presidency.

And so what do they do, destroy his image using the MEDIA and spread rumors about so called fraudulent business dealings that HH has taken part in. But guess what, the guy will not be shaken and will stand tall.

  8. He manahed to get a large percentage of votes within a short period of time. Imagine what he will be able to do now that he has time.

Those who are trying to poison HH. Why use business as a factor as to why HH cannot be a good president.

Bring his policies or proposals and lets discuss them.

Politics and Business are two different things.

  9. #6 I have read the post and HH has really explained his point clearly. I pity for HH because some people like sata, sakwiba, the POST etc have used the tribalism tag in an attempt to pull UPND down. It really makes me wonder, especially the Post newspaper, each time they cover HH, they will try to search for the smallest mistake and build mountains out of it.

  10. # 11,you could not be more right.Sikota has become a cry baby.He knows the Post will be good to him after all he was their lawyer.
Lets face facts.Sikota lost @ the UPND convetion represented by all 9 provinces of Zambia a landslide margin so where does the issue of tribalism come in.
Sata has become irrelevant to Zambian politics & this looks like The Post are focussing on HH with the PHD(Pull Him Down) attitude.
Its laughable really that Sikota thinks he is a force in Zed Politics.

  11. this is funny…some of you need to come back home and follow the facts for what they are. HH has no chance in hell of winning the next elections. come 2010 all his money would have run out – its likely that more of his peers that are appealing to the donors will come forward (VC, MM, JC, etc). the implication of this will be a splitting of votes. The real threat is within what happens to the MMD – my guess is that this party will split into 2 or more entities and the one backed by the state machinery will occupy Plot 1 end 2011. HH blow his chances by letting his ego make a premature decision for him in 2006 and as such i dont see him doing much else.

  12. # 13 which home are talking about?
Some of the people outside the country are more aware of what is happening in the country than you.
I take your prediction as HATE MAIL of wealthy people

  13. The fact that the post, Sata and Sikota seem very worried about HH, it means he is a threat to them.

  14. Sikota will never be a president of zambia be it in 2010 or 2015, I have followed him closely the guy is child dish and he has nothing to offer to the people of zambia. Some of these guys the positions that suites them well is just to be town clerks of shan’gombo .

  15. #13. someonewhoknows

Then why is the MEDIA focusing so much on HH.

If he has no chance then why are they bothering.

The MEDIA has not focussed on Miyanda or any other presidential candidate. They are just focusing on HH.

  16. You guys are out of track,in case you have forgotten the real story in the first place……its not sikota who is asking HA HA to come to ULP instead its HA HA HA who started blowing the whistle to call saki to come to UPND. # To the other guy who thinks that he knows more about zambia while living abroad, wrong or right,he might know how the world moves coz of access to from different sources, still he might be wrong today because he doesnt know whats going on in cairo road. Obama clearly won here in the US, Hillary lost on clear grounds, remember OBAMA did not push himself to be the democratic nomineee,no tribalist like Macha, madiankuku,or mwananjiti.Wake mother zambia

  17. #9 & others – what do you think they are afraid of exactly? in a short time, one can get some votes but in the long term people begin to learn more about what/who he is (& the methods by which he got where he is) and with such knowledge much of his position is weakened. if HH couldn’t manage to piece back together UPND after breaking it, what makes you think he can manage the entire zambia? he has proven to have failed to fix what he broke within UPND, failed to join with other opposition parties fairly (FDD & UNIP), so on what grounds can he restore one zambia one nation?

  18. Zambian politics is very easy is to follow. Well,2011 is nt far bane.To me and most level headed Zambians,HH seems to be an alternative for plot 1.Most pipo including myself thot UPND was going 2die with Mazoka bt it has continued fairly strong. Its gud HH didnt win in 2011 so as to gain political experience. He only campaigned for 45 days and got 27%,in 2011 he wld hav campained for 5yrs.Currently,he is the only Pres.candidate campaigning countrywide.Lets give chance to sale his manifesto.

  19. vote for MMD and be assured that there will be no economic development in Zambia. May be is the Prof Chirwa will be alowed to take over from LPM. Those mediocre politicians surrounding LPM now are just intersted in enriching themselves. The post is just getting itself involved in silly politis. All their editorial about HH are just menat to tarnish HH’s image but have not substance. If HH wants to be a president of Z, who are they to question his decision. For sata to gain those votes in last election, he was campaigning for 5 solid years, teling lies and mocking late Mazoka’s illness and LPM’s. Why does the post not want HH to kick off his campaigning now? Sata has now become compromised,

  20. sata has now become compromised and his reconciliation with LPM was circumstatial. I believe his wife the medical doctor had a big role to turn round Sata’s head cos she was the first one who told Guy scott to shut up when he had said sata would pay back the money to govt used for air ambulance and treatment. This reconciliation is circumstatial cos he has only reconciliated with a person who has authorised for his evacuation for treatment. He insulted HH but Sata has no manners of thinking about what he has said about HH or Saki. HH is very right in talking about Sata and has right to demand for apology or else HH will continue bringing that thorn issue.

  21. We shall see what will now happen cos Sylvia Masebo has told Sata to shut up over the issue of the two chiefs who are fighting overland. Politically HH is stronger than Sata but what will save Sata is having a large Bemba speaking population in Z and some of them just vote for their man. I say so cos when Mazoka was a clear favourite candidate, LPM was hugely voted for in those areas that have bemba speaking people beause of Kafupi. It explains why they are so bitter about Kafupi’s court cases. LPM lost electsions in central province where he comes from. HH did not split UPND. The crack started forming when people like Tentamashimba resigned from UPND.

  22. # 28 you are well informed, educate others who are misinformed about UPND & HH.Zambia is 4 all so is HH.Sata,Miyanda and Ngondo.

  23. The botton line country men and women is that the youngman HH has a heavy punch of influence and YES,his opponents have felt his heavy punch.Am praying for him through 2011.

  24. Remember God instals leaders and when he says yes no one can say no. I am also praying for HH come 2011 keeping in mind that God’s verdict will be final. We need a better leader for Zambia regardless of where he hails fom in Zambia, After all we have been led by Congolese and Malawians.

  25. HH or indeed any one aspiring for electoral posts should concentrate on what plans, policies, vision etc etc they have for the country rather than personal attacks.Obama won using the same method. It is the only right way

  26. #33, you are right. politiciancs aspiring for high office in our nation should concertrate on selling their mainifestos to us the electorates instead of just shouting on top of their voices as that will not help them in any way. Thats why issue based politics should be promoted in our great nation. It seems HH is the only one who is selling his economic, social and other policeis he would impliment to the Zambians if elected to office in 2011.

I listened to Sata on Tuesday on Radio Phoenix “Let the people speak Programme”, he was asked by the moderator to outline his economic polices to the nation, all the poor oldman could say was,”we’ll write down our economic polices and send them to LP

  27. #34, really sata has reduced himself to a mopper. Does it means that each time he wants to say something he to write to LPM. Is this what it means to pay back for his evacuation? I really feel sorry for this old snake

  28. I really feel for HH – he should have remained a puppet for the multinationals by earning $2,500 from board seats. By 2011 it will be Haa Haa. He has no chance. Only the Tongas are going to vote for this chap and with the PF, MMD reconciliation we will not see the vote spilt that we saw in 2006. As I mentioned earlier the interesting thing will be into how many factions/entities the MMD breaks up.

  29. #37,you’ve displayed ignorance and selfishnest of the highest order. You are a tribalist and you are the pipo who make 2 hated by other tribes,we cnt even find jobs now.

  30. Characters like # 37 are a let down 2 society,u’ll never eat tribalism. If u think HH wil b bunkrupt by 2011 then u’ll b shocked by his declarations of assets to the nation mid next yr aswel as 2011.

  31. what is ULP or is it LUP or PUL?SDaki shud just swallow his pride and abandon his party….HH is the man…abash shallow tribalists.

  32. HH CONCENTRATE ON YOUR PLANS , IF YOU WIN IT WILL WELL WITH YO PARTY IF NOT WELL SORRY FOR THE LOST TIME , U WILL NEED TO QUIT. AS I SEE IT TRUELLY UNLESS WE DONT HAVE A FORMITABLE CANDIDATE FROM MMD HH WILL SURELY NOT WIN….BUT PERSONALLY HIS AGOOD CANDIDATE THOUGH THE POLITICAL SCIENCE OF ZAMBIA VOTES TRIBAL AND HOW THOSE TRIBES AGREE……….THE REASON HH WANTED SAKI….THOUGH SAKI IN THE WEST DOESNT EVEN HAVE SUPPORT……..I WISH HIM AND THOSE STANDING IN 2011 ALL THE BEST

  33. Its a pity people want us to believe that when a party leader dies and certain tribe want their own to take over that we should not question the molarity!!!! thats the question the opportunist HH did…….jumped on a band wagon with a tribal inclination……..sorry but thats reality and thats what happened…this cost the party the 2006 elections…by the way after 2006 UPND hasnt won an election??? if you look at the numbers in kanyama their support base was less than 1000…..i mean it shows something unless am blind……..we follow such indicators…its actually true to say SATA can Beat HH one on one……………

  34. Please dont start campagning for Politicians on these sites.Just tell us what issues they have brought out to us and we will judge who is better amongst them.Tell us how each issue is better than the other and we reserve the right to agree with you or not.
No 37 please you are still so backward that you dont deserve to be allowed to contribut on these sites.tribal politics is long gone. This iste is for Zambians not tribes. Please treat people as INDIVIDUALS not which tribe or where they came from.Look at what calibre they have.If Obama can rule in America then anyone worth his salt can in Zambia

  35. Idiologies help to define the direction of any party. What are the idiologies that ULP, UPND, FDD, MMD, and PF have?

It appears like thay are all the same, different in leadership personalities! What do you think?

  36. Its unfortunate that people like NO 37 still think they can eat tribalism. Zambia has become a libral coutry and it doesnt matter who is in state house. LPM and his Ministers have little influence in the minds of hard working and innovatve Zambians. The issue of the Cobra , Sikota, Miyanda ,HH ETC should have nothing to do with tribe but principles and capacity to lead. We all know the capacity of our leaders because everyone has the history. We know the Cobra `s history and his hatred for other people on tribal grounds. Its high time we support people of intergrity irrespective of where they came from. After all once in State House the majority of the Zambians benefit nothing at all.

  37. We are looking forward to issue based politicians in 2011 and not narrow minded characters. We had had enough of useless and self centred aspirants. People have sufferd for too long due to manipulaters. Zambians are hard working and I know they will make good dicisions. Abash manipulaters and empty headed characters who have been feeding on politcs at the expense of hard working Zambians for all their life. Principle and Srevice first.

  38. Sakwiba nobody needs you and do not run to your friend Mmembe everytime there is somethimg you have to say. Nobody needs you, when someone extends an olive branch it means they are apologetic for whatever they did, even nothing as the case is here, deal with Madyenkuku (MMD) and Mwanajiti (PARTYLESS) who are well known tribalists if you need an apology with knees down. And please deal with potholes in Livingstone we are tired of replacing shocks instead of over glorifying your bedroom party.

  39. Yaba, atleast the eekend has gone without mentioning HH. Talk about Mugabe now mwe. HH pls compaign even more.

  40. People people – I am not a tribalist but facts are facts – Tongas were the only ones voting fro HaaHaa in masses. Show me a province that is not Tonga dominated that HaaHaa won in!!! Pipo here are saying that UPND hasnt won any by-elections…why…because there havent been any in Southern Province. UPND is known as a tribalist party – HH knows as does every Mulenga, Mapani, Siame, Mwale living in Zed. Also dont fool yourselves HaaHaa is no Obama…

  41. #50 please go to elections.org.zm and re-read your facts, you are surely misinformed and as usual if you want to hide something from an ignorant man, put it in the book, you are purely misinformed. Tell me, which province which is not bemba dominated did Sata get votes from? Please stay away from peddling lies, we know HH is not Obama and that is fact and I do not even intend him to be an Obama. The problem is while campaigning on the CB, Sata referred to HH as Ichilema instead if Hichilema and people started a rumour that the man was lame and guess what some people were surprised that the man was actually fit. So state fact and not tribe things, it is baseless. Madyenkuku is now in MMD.

  42. Please once again stop tribalising politics in Z.It is only true that some parties have more representation in some parts of the country than others. If you can attack UPND about that what about UNIP, By’s party whatever it is called,ETC ETC all these parties are not balanced in thair representation.UPND had Patrick Chisanga,Kasanda, Sichinga ETC ETC at the helm of the party ranks yet it is still tribal.Even MMD is said to be tribal????Whatever people think i am certain that most Zambians with a brain are above tribalism.Zambia is for Zambians and we are well at home with any one from any part of the country.People have settled in any province they found themselves confortable.

  43. #51, this “The problem is while campaigning on the CB, Sata referred to HH as Ichilema instead if Hichilema and people started a rumour that the man was lame and guess what some people were surprised that the man was actually fit” is on record. I heard it also when I went to the CB either in December last year or January this year just before leaving Zed.

The thing is, let us concentrate on developing Zambia instead of dwelling on petty issues. Zed is our only own country and it is up to us make it a place that will be habitable for every Zedian. This is the era of science and technology and so let us move forward. Please.

  44. Levy is going to nominate Sata for MMD party presidency. This can be seen by the way Mpombo and Mulongoti have all of a sudden become good and submissive to Sata. Last weekend, i saw Mpombo at Sata’s residence partying for he knows that is his next Boss. What a shame!!

It is a pitty that only Tongas from Choma will vote for HH. Not us where Daniel Munkombwe hails from. Impossible!! The late Andy’s widow single handly nominated HH. The young man is yet to win any single election. It really sad.

  45. careful 54 – you may be called a tribalist by a tribalist party member of a party that will remain nameless… 🙂

  46. #51 Mwiinga, are you saying someone who is lame cannot stand for Presidency in Zambia?? Do not insult us the lame, Mwiinga.
Though i am lame i can do a better screwing job than you Mwiinga.

  47. No.54 you are finished just like your recycled father politician. Any such useless comments are expected from you as you are helping your father or grandfather whatever the case maybe to lick his master’s soiled shoes. You are are a disgrace to us right thinking Zambians.

  48. #56 read the context of my statement Mr Soko, about screwing, I am not sure why it is being brought in a political discussion, as a way of directing you Mr Soko there was a discussion on on “cheating spouses” you might want to make a post there as it related to screwing, thank you and no apologies.

  49. #53 thank you I was just trying to put a point across regarding to what length people want to get to state house, quite honestly I doubt it is for national service. Anyhow you are right this is the era of science and technology, let us get the most out of it.

  50. Abbash tribalism in ZED,Please iam appealing to the peace loving zedians to support who ever they think would deliver regardless of tribe. The blogger who is insisting on tribal politics is begining to lose it,he does’t know where his brain is hanging bare with him.

  51. Oh by the way Mr Soko, ask Sata your tribal cousin what he intended to achieve by peddling such a lie?!

  52. Sata’ PF vs HH’s UPND:
Sata also referred to the UPND leader as a provincial president and should stop commenting on national matters because in his view, UPND doesn’t have MPs and councillors outside Southern Province. In case Sata has poverty of memory, UPND has Hon Kakoma and Katuka in North-Western and Western provinces, respectively. In addition, there is Hon Limata, Hon Hamusonde and Kasoko in Central Province apart from Jim Dons who is one of Lusaka Province’s UPND councillors.

    Remove spaces to use!

  53. #37, it is because of people like you why zambian politics are not maturing. with 72 ethnic groupings on Zed, why the hell should someone be bothered about tribe? did you choose to be bone whatever you are, kachokwe or pombo????

grow up and let us focuss on issues that will help develop the country. it is a pitty the POST is also becoming tribal, what a mess for them!! they should learn from the western press, no favouritism. Be ideal and real ba POST. ABASHI TRIBAL POLITIKS!!

  54. #63 I am glad you have observed, one of my senior colleagues once observed such until I dug a little deeper why the post is the way it is, some tribes are maternal you know, I rest my case.

  55. hhehhehhehhe. …THE POST … maternal ….

It appears THE POST has a serious agenda bent on discrediting some individuals. Their editorial comment will be terribly unobjective at times to suit their attcks on someone.

It is so sad how THE POST can choose to misconstrue someone’s well laid out points into an attack on that person.

Anyhow, with or without THE POST, Zambia is moving forward to great heights. May God bless Zambia and also the Zimbabwean people.

  56. Precisely, well I spoke to someone in LAZ who told me that the man has a serious attitude problem and he will not hesitate to use the post for personal gain.

  57. Please give HH a chance as well do not clean him before he finishes what he has for Mother Zambia. We got some presidential candidates that always suffer from memory lapes and they came to you in the name of angels when some few years ago they demolished poor people’s house in miss compound and banked poor council workers’salaries in thier personnal account at standard chartered bank by then which had low interst rates compared to zanaco. The same thug sata you are praising today will turn to be another Bob of Zimbo. Please let abaice nabo have chance to run the affairs of Zed as well.

  58. In the 1950s mining on Copperbelt, there was a shortage of manpower to work in the mines. Most tribes were reluctant to work in risky mines.
The Twas,Lambas nearby were not ready. So Bembas from Northen,Luaplua and Ngonis from Eastern and Nyasaland trooped there in numbers.
The decendants of these early emigrants now have formed clan called Zimandola. They are risky takers and brave like their forefathers. These Zimandola have migrated to Lusaka and now to Northwestern.SO ANY POLITICIAN MUST BEAR THIS IN MIND.ZIMANDOLAS HAVE A STRONG INFLUENCE AS VERY MOBILE.TARGET THEM IN POLITICAL COMPAIGN AS BY 2011,THEY AFFECT LUSAKA,NORTH WESTERN POLITICAL OPINION MORE THAN 2006 POLLS. FREE ADVICE.

  59. HH we arev easy no convince.Just show us that you are part of us.We will give you a vote.Start learning Zimandola language so that by 2011,all your compaigns are in Zimandola influenced areas are not in English. We need a sense of closeness.
