President Mwanawasa is scheduled to under-go medical examinations at Percy Military hospital in Paris, France.
Chief Government Spokesperson, Mike Mulongoti said the team of medical experts will later inform the government of their findings.
Mr. Mulongoti who is also Information Minister urged persons wishing to visit the President in Paris not to so.
He said visiting President Mwanawasa is not necessary under the current circumstances.
Mr. Mulongoti also said the Military Hospital is a highly restricted place where such visitors would not be allowed passage.
And South African President THABO MBEKI has apologised for having erroneously called for a moment of silence in honour of President Mwanawasa who was falsely reported to have died.
Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Leslie Mbula said President Mbeki phoned him last night to express his remorse.
The President is being treated for hypertension following a stroke he suffered while in EGYPT.

This whole episode shows one thing: Mbeki and Mwanawasa do not have a good working relationship. How can Mbeki fail to pick up the phone and talk to Maureen, Banda or Mbula before going public? A few days before being taken ill, Levy did say that Mbeki had not been answering his calls. Hopefully Zuma or any other successor will be a more reliable partner to deal with.
I suspect GRZ is buying time. I fear for the worst. When statements don’t seem to make sense sometimes its an indication that things are not well.

They may stabilize his brain function but probably there could be a problem on the liver or kidneys. I am not a medical doctor but I know that high blood pressure is caused by some many things internal and external. Doctors may have solved the symptoms but they must now examine the kidneys, liver, heart arteries and v/v, interstines and make sure they can determine what may have triggered the strock(s). May be he had poor diagnosis in Zambia. This is a normal practice
Yesterday I talked about the issue of stability, from my own analysis possibly this is the stability they were refering to that he had to be stable enough for the doctors to determine the actual cause of the stroke, from my own understanding the condition was not stable possibly for them to even conclude that it was haemoraghic something. So we shall hear what brother mulongoti will say this time around.

FOR ALL THOSE WITHOUT A CLUE….The Intensive Care Unit/Intensive Therapy Unit/Acute Care Unit is a ward where care is given to a patient 24/7 by nurses and doctors who take turns in shifts coz patients are normally unconscious but sometimes responsive like in the case of our President who was admitted in a semi coma state.The ITU has a few equipment for medical tests like what is called a blood gas machine or analyzer and other smaller ones but there is no MRI Scanner or CT Scanner used in the case of Stroke patients as they are in separate departments with specialised doctors and consultants who are not found in ITU!

If Mwanawasa is on Life support, clearly there is little chance of him ever working up. The fellow is now in a vegetative state. The machines are the ones keeping him alive. The medical personnel of the Hospital are just waiting for Maureen and Mwanawas’s relatives to give them a go ahead so that they could switch of his life support…
The fact is that he is already dead, we must accept this. The only thing we must do as a country is to Unite during this difficult time. Let us Pray for Maureen and the Children as they go through this very difficult time for theire family.

Some one whose heart is beating is not dead. Life support means there is life but the situation is so critical that anything can happen. We have not been told LPM is on life support. British Gent,there is no crisis at all,the constitution says the Vice President will be in charge should anything happen to the President and in this case Rupiah Banda is acting President and has been since the day Mr Mwanawasa left for Egypt.If the worst comes and the President cannot continue working or if tragedy befalls,the Veep will call for elections within 90 days.There has never been a power struggle in Zambia and it won’t come about because we have respect for the rule of law.

A little insight into what can be expected after Neurosurgery, draining or removal of clot. Usually pt are sedated to try and reduces pressures in the skull. BP is maintained to a certain level to allow the brain to have adequate blood flow. The brain is usually swollen, & it takes a few days to settle, hence the sedation. Pts are then reviewed periodically by stopping the sedation, whose level in the blood may take hours or days to clear depending on the type used. This “wakening test” is used to assess the function of the brain, if pt is still very agitated or has “fits”, they get re-sedated, & reviewed in few days time
I see some postings relating Princes Daina’s death and Our President. first of all, Diana was pronounced dead at the scene. Our man fell sick and was hospitalised . Diana went from tunnel to the mortuary or morgue . So this comparison is a non starter.
Arafat is a more realistic comparison and he was taken off life support in a matter of days.
Right now it seems form the the statements coming out of GRZ Maureen has the last call.
