Share

Bank of Zambia Governor, Caleb Fundanga, has advised people in Solwezi to obtain title deeds for their land which could serve as collateral for access to loans from financial institutions.

Dr Fundanga said people, who do not own land could form cooperatives so that they could get loans as a well registered cooperative.

Dr Fundanga said this when he paid a courtesy call on North-Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Nkolola Hazemba, in Solwezi today.

He said there is need to sensitize the people in rural areas on the benefits of belonging to community based organizations such as cooperatives that would assist them access bank loans when they can not afford collateral as individuals.

Dr Fundanga was responding to Mr Hazemba’s request for the Central Bank to make the lending Policy liberal to enable small scale businesses and farmers access loans from bank.

Mr Hazemba said while government is happy that many people are able to access loans form banks, there was still a big challenge for most people mostly those in informal employment to get loans because they can not meet the collateral requirements.

Meanwhile, Dr Fundanga has commended Lumwana Mining Company for employing local contractors in the construction process of the mine.

He has advised those that may not be directly benefiting from the mine in terms of employment to venture into various business activities such as agriculture in order to indirectly benefit from the mine through supply of farm produce.

  1. I’m really starting to like this Fundanga guy, I honestly believe that he is one of the very few who can keep our country heading the right direction… HH not very far behind. God bless Zambia

  2. That’s exactly what people want to hear from their leaders,
a Leader must come down to the ground and explain how things should work. Leaders should not just fu*&ing promise to shred taxes, we also want to know how you are going to raise money…

  3. He is one of the sharpest minds we have now. This is a guy who knows how to get the country forward.

  4. Its a pity that such a smart guy is not in the party machinery! I seriously doubt if the party convention can come up with a Fundanga. Those marketeer cadres who represent all of us that shun politics can only give us a Kadobi or the likes of late Chawinga or William Banda! That is people who can talk market politics, incapable of reading global trends, forecasting, and creating wealth and development! That is why we definately need LPM to annoint and support a sensible fellow to succeed him and not to leave everything to the marketeer cadres at the convention. May God continue to revive LPM, amen!

  5. Fundanga you are speaking sense but see what you can do to reduce the interest rates for these loans, lwakupa shangwe.

  6. The problem is good thinkers of Fundanga’s calibre are not wanted as a leader by politicians in their respective parties. We were lucky to have had LPM picked as MMD president by Kafupi and subsequently as state president. I hope we can have another LPM type after him. He may not be perfect but at least try.

  7. Fundanga z doing a gr8 job as BOZ governor period.Politics are so dynamic i wonder if he can pull strings there. However,he looks like he has a beautiful mind.

  8. Caleb you’ve have surely continued to impress, from your days in

-Cote d’Ivoire,Abidjan as a senior advisor to the president of the African Development Bank,

    -to position of alternate governor, IMF Board of Governors;

    -director of Afreximbank;

-chairman of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Committee of Central Bank Governors to now BOZ,

-and what about you being named Central Banker of the Year/Global & Africa, for 2007, by The Banker

you are indeed a shining star,
i wud implore you to stay out of politics though, it will simply turnish you,you are more valuable to us in the corporate sector may Yahweh be with you

  9. I said it in February 2008. He is a STAR. Can we have him for President? Yes and No. Yes because he appears to respond to our search for a new leader in 2011 and No because it will take a little longer to find another Caleb at BOZ.

  10. IF WE HAD FUNDANGA IN POLITICS, HE WOULD NOT BE AS SMART AS HE IS. HE WOULD HAVE TO TOE THE PARTY LINE AND THEREFORE STOP BEING PROFESSIONAL. LET HIM BE WHERE HE IS

  11. Pa zed it’s easy to become Presido material, the goddam guy is the BOZ governor is simply doing his job and now he’s a saint by stating this. C’mon you don’t need ECON101 to come up with what he said, what has he done about the high interest rate in the country. The statement above is nothing to write about so don’t say that makes him Presidential material, afterall you don’t need to be an economist to be President but a good leader and make people around you work better by getting the most out of them!

  12. The government clearly confirms that there is a void in the Presidency at home, they needed to reconvene parliament and amend a supplement to this specific statutory instrument. As it is right now, and as per secretary to the cabinet’s notice, Rupiah’s acting period expired on July 2nd… Mwanawasa did not stipulate that until he returns but was unequivocal on the end date. “Gazette notice number 307 of 2008, which falls under the statutory functions Act – the statutory functions of the President (Delegation) notice 2008, indicates that President Mwanawasa delegated the functions of the president to Mr Banda. “It is notified for public information that in exercise of the powers contained in

  13. contd…
Article 39 (1) of the Constitution of Zambia, His Excellency, the President did delegate the functions of President to His Honour Mr Rupiah Banda, Vice-President of the Republic of Zambia, from June 28 to July 2, 2008,” reads the notice signed by Secretary to the Cabinet, Joshua Kanganja.”

  14. Fundanga can make a good president for zed, what do you think guys? coz he speaks a lot of senseable things.

  15. Yes, I have worked with Dr. Fundanga and i think he is a very wise intellectual. He could work very well with the likes of Clive Chirwa and HH in some setting. Principled, informed and open minded people who can see the country beyond their stomachs.

I am sure, if we assemble a team of people of this calibre, the likes of sata and Kafupi will just drop dead in awe.

  16. Human Resource Recyling for Presidency, is it a way forward for the Zambian peaple?

    1. HH – We need your profile (Do you have what it takes…?maybe not.)
    2. King Cobra – Is this not the time for you to play an advisory role?
    3. Dr KK – your wisdom is most welcome (You are the father of this nation)
4.Chiluba FTJ – You are not a bad person at all if only you were not going thru this sh….

    5. Fundanga – you can be an asset in an advisory role
    6. I think we have the capacity in in different echelons eg. at PS level because most of them apart from being experienced, they are educated and understand how government machinery works but WHERE ARE THEY?

  17. uyu FUNDANGA has been doing a good job mwe…ba mwisho save our country u seem to have some presidential materialism in you!!!! good man..thats how u update a countrys economy with facts and details..not that rubbish we hearing STABLE STABLE STABLE ..naleka ukupepa kaleeeeee!!!!!!!!!

  18. I totally agree with the Fundanga sentiments, though I strongly feel the interest lending rates are still high, please we need our Central Bank to intervene.

Above all I like your way of doing business bwana Governor. Zambia forward, go Zambia go!

  19. People like Fundanga don’t a party to function. That is what technocrats should be. LPM, Magande, Fundanga has been the best combination so far. But overall the country is maturing and we will see better days.

    Viva Zed.

  20. People like Fundanga don’t a party to function. That is what technocrats should be. LPM, Magande, Fundanga has been the best combination so far. But overall the country is maturing and we will see better days as we have many more intellectuals.

    Viva Zed.

  21. very viable ideas, but if you flip the page, He may fail to do justice.there are too many pressures and disciplines up there that would lead to his downfall as president, but all in all,a round of applause.over the loan access issue…

  22. DR Fundanga has the best credentials period.
The question is would he be a good leader?Yes but the only problem is the people that he is gonna work with. They wont see his vision and so he would be speaking french to them. The Presidency would stress him out big time because he would have to have a one on one with every minister just to make sure they are on the same page.
Our Communications Minister had no good words for VOIP ad am sure he didnt know what VOIP is before he even condemned it.So people like him cant work with Dr Fundanga.
I liken Dr’s credentials to the Malawi leader Dr Mbingu Wamtharika. Is a good leader?I dont know.
