Electricity users storm ERB stand in the show grounds

Share

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has recorded an increase in the number of people visiting its stand for information at the on going 82nd Agriculture and Commercial Show in Lusaka.

ERB Communications Officer, Kwale Mfune, attributed the increase to the power deficit that Zambia and other SADC member states were currently experiencing.

Ms. Mfune told ZANIS that, a lot of people were storming the ERB stand to inquire about the power deficit and the rising prices of petroleum products on the global market.

She said the board had also intensified campaign programmes throughout the country to educate people about energy efficiency measures that were in place.

Ms. Mfune said ERB was also closely working with other stake holders such as the Ministry of Energy and Water Development, ZESCO, Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) and the Rural Electricity Programme (REP), to ensure that the masses were well informed, about the power deficit being experienced in the region.

She said it was also gratifying that more Zambians were beginning to seek information to understand the challenges the energy sector is currently facing.

Ms. Mfune has since urged Zambians to adhere to energy serving measures that Government and energy institutions have prescribed, adding that all stakeholders should have a role to play in order to cushion the impact of the challenges..

And Ms. Mfune has said the ERB has also intensified efforts to promote the use of unleaded petrol after Government banned the importation of leaded petrol on 31st March this year.

She said the ERB was carrying out countrywide campaigns in order to inform and educate people on the development, adding that the board was also trying to promote the use of unleaded petrol through community radio stations across the country.

Government this year on 31st March banned the importation of leaded petrol due to its contribution to global warming. Lead Replacement Petrol (LRP) will now be used in vehicles that were manufactured in the late 70s and early 80s.

  1. Another stand that needs to be stormed is the Celtel/Zain stand (I hope they are exhibiting). That Zain company is useless. Right now I can’t get anyone on celtel. 4. Celtel/zain is stealing people’s money. People are being charged for sms which are not received by the recipients. What has happened with this company? MMD Cabinet ministers are greedy and irresponsible. UNZA was asking for money some of which they have already worked for it hence have not been paid to date. Here are who are doing nothing but getting fat with our money as tax payers.UNZA DO NOT OPEN THE UNIVERSITY UNTIL ALL THE MONIES ARE PAID IN FULL. NO PROMISORY NOTES. A named country in West Africa had its ministers plus president salary reduced in order to help the poor. But MMD is widening the gap between the rich and the poor.SELFISH AND GLUTTON MINISTERS.

  5. I wonder if our ministers care for us. How can they increase their salaries while they can´t increase salaries for the government workers. This is not the right time to increase your salaries when the head of state is not around. What is the V.P doing? Please don´t be selfish.

  7. Tell that Ms Mfune that campaigns, sensitisations and the use of unleaded petrol are not the answers why the Nation is experiencing power shortages. We want SOLUTIONS and not SENSITISATIONS.
Zambia has alot of Natural resources including Water and has all the potential and capabilities of being self reliant, eg Why dont they Upgrade the machinery at Kafue hydro-power station to meet the increasing demand of electricity ? That power station was left by our colonial masters, and for 44 years now we havent done anything to improve it when our towns have continued to grow thereby increasing the demand for power.
IMPLEMENTATION of policies is very bad in Zambia. We speak good but no action…..

  8. Selfish MMD ministers be strongly advised that you will find it difficult to fight corruption because of your greedy. You are indeed a bunch of corrupt and greedy ministers bent to harvest where you never sowed.

  9. jst after floating the 20% shares, celtel is gone. why? this ZAIN, idon’t knw. so soon for them to let mobile internet to dissappear, can’t be thru to reach customer care and jst trouble being thru when making a call. some1 tell me who ZAIN is and why celtel is gone. were is our ZED goin and …LPM… Awe imweee!!!

  10. I suspect these greedy ministers are the causers of all these problems of energy, comunicarion etc. Look at the Zain issue, one time when celtel system went down just for a few hours in Livingstone, the Communication Minister issued a lot of threats to Celtel and demanded an explanation. Now that its Zain, the minister is quiet despite persistent problems. Na ba mu lisha mo. These people must be benefitting from this Zain thing. It probably explains why they blocked the fourth mobile company from operating in Zambia. They have even increased there sallaries.

  11. I wish to add my voice to the many complaints about Celtel network. It’s very frustrating. You want to chat with your g.f back home and the annoying …’or have their phones switched off’comes to your ears and think someone is occupying your seat.

  12. I forgot … kuli agric show pa Zed!!!! Highlights everyday pa ZNBC with marketing managers gobbing about their sub-standard products. Claudette Sindaza and her bimbo friends?

  15. Guys iam lost what or who is Zain? close the company we do not need trials in this time and age. technology is readly availabe.

  16. How much did ZAIN bribe some stupid Zambian politicians that they keep quiet when the citizens are are finding it hard to communicate. Its hard geting through when I call from here. The trouble with reguratory authorities in Zambia is that they do nothing but get bribes from these useless service providers. When will our ***** politician ever wake up and do something for the Zambian people! Shame on you GRZ.You are GRZ for foreign infestors!!
