“Agric” Officials frustrated by Levy’s absence

Share

The Agricultural and Commercial Show Society of Zambia (ACSZ) says it is saddened by President Mwanawasa’s absence due illness at this year’s show which comes to a close today.

ACSZ President, Paul Mumbuluma, said President Mwanawasa’s illness has frustrated officials in the organizing committee who wished Dr Mwanawasa to have seen how much effort was put in organizing the successful 2008 international agriculture show.

Mr Mumbuluma told ZANIS that the ACSZ wanted Dr Mwanawasa to see for himself the positive developments in key sectors of the economy, which the agricultural and commercial show showcased.

He noted that this year’s show has reflected positive indicators for Zambia’s economic performance.

Over 800 exhibitors showcased their services and products at the Show under the theme, ‘Growth in Diversity.’

  1. When i see bananas, mangoes, onions, etc from cameroon, Ivory Coast, Dominican Republic, South Africa and Kenya in most UK supermarkets, i ask myself when i will see a package from Zambia. Apart from flowers i saw in France, do we export any other agro products?

  2. learn to do without LPM. Why do u say things that cant happen. LPM jst cant be their bcoz of stroke. unless u don’t knw what a stroke can do to sum1 u will continue hoping fo LEVY.

  3. Life goes on,sometimes you loss some and win some. How long has it been now since the man was flown to France? It was a second stroke so check down the real situation.

  4. THE ZAMBIAN PUBLIC SHOULD STOP ACTING LIKE CHILDREN AND START WORKING TO GET THE POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC BASIS ABCK TO WHAT IT WAS BEFORE LPM’S STROKE. IF A COUNTRY CAN GO INTO SUCH TURMOIL JUST BECAUSE IT’S DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED PRESIDENT FALLS ILL, IT SHOWS THE INSTABILITY OF THE NATION’S POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC BASIS AND IT’S INFANTILE REACTION TO ILLNESS. GROW UP AND START MOVING FORWARD WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD.

  5. Riccardo #4 do you really understand the meaning of the word ‘Turmoil’? I forgive you becoz you are German. I do not see the turmoil yo are referring to here. When people openly discuss a matter it doesnt automatically mean what you wish to convey. I would rather think Hitler’s Germany couldve been under turmoil seeing that even the right of expression was under threat. The sort of reaction coming from Zambians has no local precedence and therefore the ‘talk’. Besides the statement above doesnt reflect the reality on the ground – it could just be one of seeking attention at a time when everybody was talking about the president’s illness. SO Riccardo, it must be you to grow up and learn.

  6. #1 EP.. I have seen Coffee labelled Zambin Coffee in RSA mall. We’re exporting other products like paprikka.

  7. PAN Africanist i challenge you to tell me the brand of that coffee and in which mall you saw it. I have lived over 15 years in south africa and i have never seen any coffee imported into RSA from Zambia so bwana i am taking you on .

  8. #EP Have you checked out the Veggie section in most of the leading supermarkets in the UK? Try Tesco,Morrissons,Marks and Spencers,Sainsburys and ASDA.Most of their green beans carrots mangetout babycorn and chillies are from Zambia.

  9. HAVING JUST SEEN THAT THE CABINET HAS GIVEN THEMSELVES A RAISE IN SALARIES AND BENEFITS, I CAN ONLY SHAKE MY HEAD IN DESPERATION – HOW TYPICAL OF POLITICIANS, THEY’RE THERE ONLY TO LINE THEIR OWN POCKETS AND WHAT A MORE CONVENIENT TIME TO DO IT THAN WHEN LPM IS LYING IN A HOSPITAL BED OUTSIDE OF HIS COUNTRY.
REFERRING TO NKABWELA’S COMMENT EARLIER ON (# 5) : F.Y.I. I HAPPEN TO BE A ZAMBIAN LIVING IN GERMANY AND RESENT PERSONAL REMARKS ABOUT THE GERMAN PEOPLE. WHENEVER A PERSON LIVING IN GERMANT MAKES A COMMENT ABOUT OTHER COUNTRIES THE SUBJECT OF HITLER ETC COMES UP. AFRICANS, WHY DON’T WE LOOK IN OUR OWN BACK GARDENS BEFORE POINTING FINGERS AT OTHER NATIONS.

  10. LET US NEVER FORGET THAT POLITICIANS ARE ELECTED TO SERVE THE CITIZENS, NOT THE CITIZENS TO SERVE THE POLITICIANS. ZAMBIA SHOULD TRY THE SWISS SYSTEM WHERE ANY INCREMENT IN SALARIES FOR GOVT OFFICIALS HAVE TO BE VOTED ON AND APPROVED BY THE CITIZENS THEMSELVES.

  11. Riccardo, guten tag my friend. I lived in Munich for a while, 5 minutes from Giesing Banhof. I have such good memories of that ‘beemer’ city because that is where I met my wife!
In contrast to the Swiss system, the salaries will have to be approved by parliament – or is it the national assembly? – since the President is away. You and I know that our Zambian parliament is a rubber stamp of cabinet. So those immoral salaries will be approved swiftly even though those increments may not have been budgeted for. Sad.

  12. Thanks guys!! Interestingly as i knocked of yesterday i passed by the Mace shop near to my ‘home’and found some green beans from Zambia. Cheers!!

  13. Looks like there are some people in Zambia who can’t do things on their own. They have to wait until mum and dad come home. Ha ha ha.

  14. #1 check sainsburys,Tesco and ASDA we have chillies from Zambia and sometimes green beans and peas.Surely we can improve on this. Why cant we get mealie from zambia when Safrica and Jamaica are flooding the Uk markets?

  15. #8 Chikumbuso, while it may be true that you’ve never seen Zambian coffee in SA malls, you need to realise that RSA is one hell of a ‘protectionist’ economy. It’s easier for a Zambian farmer to export to Europe (coz of quota system) than to export to that madiba land. They heavily subsidize their own producers and impose unrealistic restrictions, which frustrate competitors. It’s now not supprising thing for one to find Zambian farm produce in Western Europe…though most of it is from the farms owned by none native Zambians (formerly Zimbabwean white farmers). I personally know of a Zambian farmer who recently failed to export bananas to RSA but succeeded to do so to Switzerland and Germany

  16. For every home to make progress in their day today plans and aspirations, they must first of all be able to feed themselves:meet their daily home basic needs.this is what zambia is striving to achieve right now and the people who are helping us realise this dream are the farmers.mention any country that has witnessed development without the thorough participation by the farmer and i will show you a country in deeper crisis simply because they frustrated the farmers by grabbing their farmlands.farmers in zambia have reason to be worried because they know the person who understands them better is sick.shall we have the policies we had before levy where agric. wasnt recognised?it mustnt be pls!!

  17. #12, Riccardo, it’s indeed wrong for one to talk about Hitler in the context that #5 did…but us Zambians living in Zambia also resent to be told to ‘grow up’ just becoz of a statement made by an individual representing a handful of bootlickers. Just like every Germany is not Nazi, neither is every Zambian ASCZ. We don’t know about ASCZ and the politicians, but we, the ordinary people on the ground, are fully grown and moved on. As you may know our contry, is mostly on auto-pilot but we live.

  18. #21 A million thanx for your special time you spent reading what i wrote.its my prayer that we continue adding sense to the issues raised onto this site as this is the only opportunity we have been given and its only relevant that we express ourself much to the solution seeking mind set and not attacking venue for goaless aimers.lets apply ourselves deeply and demonstrate how muscular we can be when it comes to debating these issues.responsible people have pleaded again and third for a change in the line of analysis but its like flogging a dead horse.my belief is that we learn a lot from people who debate with measured informed references but lose a tone from score settling debators.go on…

  19. #4 I do not know whether you are Recardo F….! Go to Darfur so that your words are correctly palaced. Continue to enjoy your economic refugee status. You are just a coward econimic scrounger who should continue to burry your head in the sand until your are caught in the Xhenophobia tornado then you will start crying in your mopther tongue. You think you can comment anything on what you do not understand. Wait until you meet a skin Head then you will know who is in turmoil.

  20. MY HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES TO THE LATE PRESIDENT LEVY MWANAWASA’S FAMILY AND TO THE PEOPLE OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA. IT IS ZAMBIA’S FIRST DEATH OF A PRESIDENT AND HOW THE PEOPLE AND GOVERNMENT DEAL WITH THE LOSS OF THEIR PRESIDENT, THE DEMOCRATIC ELECTION OF A NEW PRESIDENT AND THE RETURN TO THE COUNTRY’S PATH OF PEACE, ECONOMIC DEVELOPEMENT WITHOUT CORRUPTION, WILL DETERMINE HOW THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY VIEW ZAMBIA AND THE STABILITY OF THE COUNTRY. THIS IS CRUCIAL FOR FOREIGN INVESTMENT AND CONTINUED GROWTH OF ZAMBIA’S ECONOMIC FUTURE. I TRULY HOPE THAT ZAMBIA MAKES THE ‘RIGHT’ DECISIONS FOR ITS OWN FUTURE.
