Share

Vice President Rupiah Banda says President Levy Mwanawasa has continued to respond positively to treatment.

Mr. Banda has since urged the nation to remain peaceful and continue praying for his quick recovery.

He also advised government and the civil service to continue working hard so that President Mwanawasa finds the country in order when he returns home.

Mr. Banda was speaking when out going British High Commissioner to Zambia, Alistair Harrison paid a courtesy call on him at government house.

He commended Mr. Harrison for his exemplary work during his tenure office adding that government and the country as a whole will greatly miss him.

And out going British High Commissioner to Zambia, Alistair Harrison paid tribute to Zambians for remaining calm and united during the absence of President Mwanawasa.

Mr. Harrison said the international community is impressed with the spirit of unity across the political spectrum adding that Zambians should continue praying for the quick recovery of President Mwanawasa.

He further thanked government for the support rendered to him during his tenure of office.

Mr. Harrison noted that Zambia and Britain have continued to enjoy good bilateral relations adding that his government will continue to offer financial assistance to Zambia.

The British government has welcomed the sentencing to jail of former Zambia Consolidated Copper Mine (ZCCM) Chairman Francis Kaunda and Former Access Financial Services Director Faustin Kabwe.

Out going British High Commissioner to Zambia, Alistair Harrison said the sentencing to jail of Mr. Kabwe and Mr. Kaunda to two years imprisonment will serve s a deterrent to would be offenders.

Mr. Harrison said this in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Lusaka today.

He said the imprisonment of the two should send a strong signal to those fond of engaging themselves in corrupt practices that the law will one day visit them.

Acting Lusaka deputy high court registrar Edward Musona on Wednesday sentenced Mr. Kaunda and Kabwe to two year in jail after finding them guilty of conspiring to defraud ZCCM.

Meanwhile Mr. Harrison has appealed to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) heads of states who will be meeting in South Africa this weekend to be optimistic and put on their agenda the Zimbabwe political crisis.

Mr. Harrison said SADC leaders should endeavor to resolve the political situation in Zimbabwe amicably for the betterment of people and the region as a whole.

He noted that Zambia as the current chair of SADC has done a commendable job towards resolving the political situation in Zimbabwe but that more effort is needed from other countries in the region.

Mr. Harrison has since thanked President Mwanawasa for his good leadership during his tenure of office as SADC chairperson.

Zambia will be handing over the SADC chairmanship to South Africa this weekend.

  1. RB is not tired telling us the same old story. We just have to wait for Brian Chituwo’s ministerial statement mark 2 in Parliament next week not this nonsense.

  2. Like the Americans say “ain’t nothin’ changed…it’s business as usual”. Zambians, please go back to work.

  3. #1,I totaly agree with you..this issue of ba Lpm responding to medication and being stable is really tiring.when they update the nation on the condition of the ba Lpm,its alway the same thing, what kind of progress is that.we are now tired because ba levy has been stable since the day he was admited 2 percy millitary hospital.Fellow zambians i think we should think of goin for a succesion process because ba as it seems now ba levy wont becoming home soon and the nation shall not be on auto pilot as it is today,we need a leader to guide the nation.just look at whats happening now between ka mulongoti nachi mpombo..they keep on issuing stupid statements that are not even beneficial

  4. cont frm #7,to the nation but to them self’s.we are tired of this lies..tel us the truth so th@ we can prepare our voters cards.we dont need chaps like mulongoti and chi mpombo to start making stupid noise like we like listening to there nonsence cheap talk.

  5. They keep on repeating this statement like it was “paid for” commercial e.g. win a tractor competition, nyama soya.

  6. Mr outgoing Low commissioner, can you also ensure that the British Govt. equally punishes those involved in the BA/Saudi arms deal as you potray yourselves to be holier than though.
Corruption is everywhere in the world and stop lecturing us like small kids!!Kozo..

  7. If you are tired go and sleep, let him come and sort out these
indecisive Ministers who have no compass in there head.

  8. We are tired of these crappy updates. Just let us be and dont tell us anything, we shall press for early elections if LPM is not back by next month. Tired of the same old sh!t.

  9. Country men let us worry about how much this recovery is depleting our treasury. At the end of it all this country will retain the same debt burden as was before 2001.

  10. SALARY increments for constitutional office holders and government officials are justified though inadequate, Bahati Patriotic Front (PF) member of parliament Besa Chimbaka has said.

And Namwala UPND member of parliament Major Robby Chizyhuka said there was need to rationalise the matter of salary increments and face the facts squarely.

But PF Kasama-Central member of parliament Saviour Chishimba said he was opposed to the salary and allowance increments.
Commenting on the proposed salary and allowance increments whose amendment Bills have reached committee stage in Parliament, Chimbaka said people opposing the increments were unfair.

He said his being in Parliament was a sacrifice

  11. RB can you pliz use onother term than always talking the same sheet, this thing of continue respondind is tiring, for how long wil he continue to respond to treatment. this is not news, people want something new from you.maybe stop talking about the condition of levy, and let’s move on to something else.

  12. he used to get better perks when he worked for the Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT).

“When I was working for ZNUT, I was well-paid. Now as MP for Bahati, I go away with K3 million as monthly salary after they take away K1.2 million car loan, then for insurance K1.2 million. If you have got a loan from Parliament, sometimes you can go empty,” Chimbaka said. “After sitting allowance I get K400,000 daily. I pay K200,000 for my room and for meals K25,000. How much do I remain with?”

Chimbaka said it was difficult for members of parliament to sustain their lives from the current perks.

  13. chimbaka you are an *****. can you resign and go back to teaching and see if will you get that money. dont fool around with us who have remained in the teaching profession.

  14. Stop lying about the poor man’s health when you all know the truth no wonder you are busy increasing your perks.

  15. There is drama in the country. Some Ministers have even stoped respecting courts of law. What a shame.

  16. ladies and gentlemen, who has ever returned to ‘normal’ after suffering from a stroke. whether we see him or not is irrelevant because the nature of the disease is such that he will never be the same. as such let us be partriotic and organise our country. we cant run on auto pilot forever. it simply means there is a lot of sweeping under the carpet going on at cabinet. thats why mulongoti keeps the press busy

  17. RB, i can not agree more with the blogger who said he just gets a piece of paper from the pocket and read on it and puts it back. He is responding well to treatment, but what about the prognosis for the long term. We are waiting for a true CABBAGE to come and run this country. Are we so stupid as to wait for an ailing guy when things on the ground are not so well. Fuel has gone up, Ministers and ex- ZNUT unionists are boasting of how valuable they are to zambia, SHAME TO US ALL.

  18. I think its clear Mwanawasa isn’t coming back. I think its time to hold early elections so we can quickly move on as a country.

  19. Rupiah Zedian pipo will not forgive you when we know that you have being lying to us all along, you knew that levy is not improve even a bit!

  20. Mr Veep, it’s time you made a choice between continuing a virtual relation with the Zambian people telling us lies, or turning it into a real one telling us the truth and mapping a concrete path for the future.

Wish our men within Zed and also in the diaspora can have the decisiveness, visions and patriotism of the Putin’s of this world.

  21. Ba RB why dont you just come out in the open with your bunch offffffff. we really tired of the same stories you read from your papers from your pocket

  22. Useless vice president!he knows a lmp can’t be in comma for 2months and come back.why not to come up with a solution?Everyone is just quiet as if we are so stupid.what kind of a country is zambia? This shows ignorance in our leaders with low iq.
2months without a clear infomation on our president.Zambia really lacks leadership,we just rule ourselves.govt’s job is to steal money.wake up zambians !!let not govt lie you in the name of God.They’re busy stealing while telling to pray!

  23. i think we dont the position of president. we ‘ve stayed this long without one without any serious consequences

  24. Thieves are thieves and derserve what they get and at the point of just it does not pay any one to start comparing with past thefts as this judgement is for corrective action and not a witch or victimisation exercise but to set an exemplary mode for the Country. I must state even two weeks sentence at such a HIGH Level is enough justice.

  25. No should start comparing with ZCCM by these of having done much as they were in charge of PUBLIC institutions were a lot of others Zambians could have done MUCH BETTER and probably delivered a better ZCCM than the loss making entity they left after the system discovered the ineficencies!!!

  26. RP is enjoying and you expect him to say anything other than the same old old story of stable condition. Mu zed you mean no one can force RB to tell the nation the truth coz its too much.

  27. The issue is does he also know the truth and secondly the constitution leaves the onus for this decision one people who have a vested interest (Cabinet) but then to think of it againt Cabinet is appointed by the president who is also elected by the citizenry hence although this might not be correct body to decide the decision in most logical and rationale govern will still vest in a similar body like cabinet as they are expected to have close proximity to the president and decide on his or her capacity!!!

  28. interesting to be back

gentlemen, mr RB has no update to make.
we’re now sure that LPM was working alone, thats why these guys are bussy aguing with each other they have always been hiding behind LPM. what a shame.

  29. i heard some wind that there will be a rally tomorrow addressed by mr sata, has he explained to the public fully the purpose of this rally or he just want to get some political mileage out of our complaints about salary increaments.

fellow countrymen and women, have we forgotten that in chiluba’s time when this man was minister without portifolio we never had any chance of debating their salaries, it use to be done within cabinet. so lets question their motives before we’re taken for a ride by these guys who promise us the sun when they have failed to deliver the moon.

  30. We are always negative, presumptous and unbelieving beings always wishing bad when good can be there if we all believed that when one in problems,he or she can come out of it and start living again as before. When one in calamity it is like all of us are in it and as long as there is hope there is light at the far end.If what is said to us is not the truth what is the truth that you know? Why then those of you who know better than what is said tell us the truth instead of you questioning other peoples ability of telling the truth.

  31. I am writing in respect of No. 15 on this loop…

Who is Kolyokolyo? I ask because i have used this psuedo before on Zambiasossa and yet I do not subscribe to the views expressed herein.

Friends have alerted me to the same. So whomever wants to use this psueado must make it clear that the duo are different.

we need a video footage or some pictures to confirm that “”positive response””.

  32. Rupia Banda should just keep quiet. I’m just waiting for the final report. I’m no longer interested in these useless, empty updates. I find them (updates) rather annoying.

  33. lets avoid insults please zambians.mark my words soon something will happen with this web site.why should we continue altering very strong words(insults).lets castigate constructively.i enjoy a lot of comments from those zambians who mean well to society.lets be united forever and then.i love u all.

  35. Rupiah banda is not a Leader, he is a reader, just reading us the same story over and over again while politicians and other corrupt individuals get rich from gov’t money which we need for so many problems in Zambia.

  36. How long has this mwanawambwa been speaker of the national assembly? The man acts like a prefect in a class room. I also don’t think that we should conform to the British Parley system because to me it looks like it is this ideology of importing European ideas like Parliament (MPs, Speaker, Chief whip etc) that has kept us backwards. Why should we be living and surrounding ourselves with foreign ideas when we can set up a system that is unique to us? For example, I don’t think that MPs are a true reflection or representatives of the people they claim to represent. I also think that the Speaker plays a role in making sure we conform to the British colonial system to this day.

  37. RB says slow recovery of LPM illness is frustrating (todays post). Yesterday RB said something else. He should clarify

  38. The whole saga is confusing, what did the post report in saturday´s paper? You can cheat some people some time but not all. Them lies will always come back to you….thought you,the so called Gov´t knows that alredy as you are old guys with white hair. This is a national issue man Banda!!!!!!!!!!

  39. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz please wake me up when someone says something we do not know about and not what we already know!

  40. abena zambia, twachula pafula. whats the way forward now coz ba LPM is not coming back this time, not even as a cabbage. for how long will we complain to ourselves. lets use this medium to come up with valid and workable suggestions. if we dont fight for ourselves and now no one will. abana besu bakachulilamo. MMD(Make Money and Disapear) will never take us to where we should be. rise up, dust off yourselves and fight. please……..abena Zed

  41. Latest,Zambian Ambassador to Canada David Saviye told the Zambians during the prayer meeting in Canada that the President was not talking yet but could recognise members of his family.I want to believe that this could be very true other than the rubbish of being told that he is improving and stable from RB,Mulongoti and Mpoombo. I hope this Mpoombo will not again tell us that the ambassador is not telling the truth.
That is serious illness and it is not a joking matter. Lets just go for elections fellow zambians!

  42. Twanaka nenu ba RB and your usual sory of LPM improving, if you have nothing to comment about LPM’s sickness please just keep quiet. As far as Zambians are concerned LPM is now a real cabbage and we should just forge ahead with new leaders. Every week same story (kashimi?), you boot licker do not bore us even more!

  43. People new thread please coz this is old news. Ok he can recognize people but can he recognize that they are like “Dude speed it up coz we need to go home and eat nshima its been a while. 52. Latest!! Chibombamilimo is the owner of Amaka Lodge near crossroads in Woodlands, Mulongoti is owner of Executive Lodge in Kabulonga and Teta has a milling firm which is in full operation. These are the guys who are in the forefront pushing for the cabinet ministers increaments. They are already rich, and are at the same time greedy.

Dr. Chituwo is right… LPM is Sedated. Sedation is a way of trying to get a patient who has suffered from stroke to start coming back to life. Depending on the amount of drugs used on the patient, it can take long for one to come back to life.

  53. ‘GOODBYE’
There are lots of my supporters and well-wishers, and there are lots of opinion polls, that say I should stay in power. I know that there are many well-wishers and supporters that were telling me to do something else, but I would like to tell them, please accept this truthful decision for the nation and in the people’s interest.

Finally, goodbye to Pakistan. God protect Pakistan. God protect you, Pakistan forever. Long live Pakistan.
    LPM’s words so soon.goodbye Musaharraf!

  55. There is crisis in UNIP also… KK and Betty have advised their son Tilyengi to step down, according to the latest info received.

FAZ President Kalusha has now lost vision… Instead of concentrating on running the affairs at FAZ HQ, he was busy visiting patients at hospitals. He was last seen holding a baby at Belt Cure Hospital. (humanity)!! Before he realises what has hit him, he will just find himself impeached, what with the Mbesuma saga.

  56. bj10 walitumpa, anyway tawaipala chimbwi! wapala wiso. You and your family must fast for LPM. Your father yaps crap all the time. You think you own Zed? we chipuba we! We will insult him again if he yaps crap. Swine!
