Faz has cancelled all league and national team fixtures following the
death of president Levy Mwanawasa today in Paris, France.

Faz spokesman Erick Mwanza said all league games scheduled during the
7 days of national mourning have all been postponed.

He said the Zambia national soccer team will not play any further
friendly matches during its 10-day training camp in Germany either
throughout the period of national mourning.

However, tonight’s training match against Bundesliga regional side
Kirchhiem will be played.

“The news (of the presidents) came after the game was already been set
so we are going ahead,” the Faz spokesman said.

“The team will observe a minutes silence and will wear black armbands
as a sign of respect for our late president.”

Mwanza said Zambia’s training camp will continue without any scheduled
friendly games and that a further statement how the national mourning
will affect the Under-17 ande Under-20 teams training camps will be
issued shortly.

President Mwanawasa died Tuesday morning after a month in a coma in a
Paris Hospital following a stroke.

Meanwhile, all ZRFU League quarterfinal fixtures set for this weekend
including the Africa cricket Council division 2 tournament that was
scheduled to start today have all been postponed.

  1. efyo mulushila. You are preparing for a serious game against a serious team and for sure when you are preparing it does`t mean that you are celebrating. Yourself, you just issued that statement and by now you are in a bar drinking kapala. Let the team go ahead with the preps coz fifa will not change the date for the coming games. Its better you tell zambia breweries to stop its production during this time.

  2. Cancelled games means they won’t be played. Postponed games means that the games will be played at a later date.

  3. I praise ama boxers yapumine ama envoys ya pa zed ku ma olympics thereby sending them home bwangu. Our boxers will now attend the funeral.

  7. #5 says those tongas who mourn with music and spears should go and attend levy’s funeral. In tonga land when someone dies they are men who play music(nyele)and run around with spears.he didnt insult mwebantu. At least i got what he said and i know other people got it as well.

  8. i know we morning mwanawasa ,but life goes on ,let the boyz continue with their games in germany,we gonna, lose against togo if we dont go ahead these games

  9. Imwe ba FAZ life goes on. We still have to work hard and continue praparing for Togo as planned. Do you want to loose against Togo right in your backyard.

  10. Ba Zambia Makula anyway. I hope this motivates them to unite the country. I doubt it but I am keeping my hopes high!!

  11. when mourning the death of a king all events including the bedroom sport(sex) are cancelled. women take heed and strictly follow this acient tradition. there is a good reason why this was put in place. those who wish life to continue should move out temporarily and go outside the country. today if possible am going to State House kuyenda kugona kumalilo. so *****s should not trivialise this period. its a very serious era for our motherland and my whole heart goes out to the first family as they mourn our beloved one.

  12. Much as life has to gop on,we need to pay respect to our leader!the games can be held the other week.Welldone FAZ!!

  13. Most zambian leaders dont think, what nonsense is this? life must go on regardless of who is dead. is this the 1st time someone is dying? death will owez b there lets do wat hs to b done

  14. I see that all the bloggers above are *****s who are more or less than kaponyas, uneducated fools. Grow up guys.

May Dr LPM REST IN PEACE

  15. What nonsense!!!wats the point of disturbing the national team’s preparing. come on, people die n babies r born. thats life.RIP the president, but if we start dwelling in mourning then we not going forward. lets go on as a national to avoid further mourning. If we lose against Togo people will die. do these people realise how many zambians die whenever the national team loses? they also zambians ka!!!

  16. there is no need for zambia to postpone thier games in germany,,its useless for faz to think like that,,they should count it as an opportunity that the team was sent to germany by germany goverment and they shud make use of it,they shud not forget that those guys are employed as sportsment and they have families to look after,,so they just need to work and perform,we wont accept an stories wen zambia is hammered by togo

  17. itswrong for the national team to stop all the friendlies sechuled for the togo preparations.yes the president has passed on but we still have lives to live, why stop serious preparation for the africa/world cup qualifiers. I hope that is not going to be an excuse for losing the coming match.

  18. As a way of showing last respect to Dr LMP and the first family, I think its right that activities of entertainment nature be canceled, after all its only for the seven days. The man sacrificed a lot for this nation to be what it is to day.It is just proper that we mourn him with utmost dignity.

  19. And then they will lose. He wanted the best for the country and cancelling sports events is not the best coz they need preparation to give good results

  20. Guys in case you don’t know, blogs like this one are meant to be educative and “pool” people’s opinions on a given topic. Some of the comments I’ve seen on this and the other news item defeats the whole purpose of having such a blog. It’s so sad that some jade individuals, in their quest to attract attention from other bloggers are crossing the line and making this period of morning look like a joke.

  21. Please educate the people who are given the powers to inform the nation on cetain issues. The words cancelled and postpone are two different words, please when issuing statements of such a nature know the implications. Games have been postponed and not cancelled because the same fixture will be fulfilled at a later date.

  22. 36. we have been told that games been cancelled full stop. unless you have some other information that which we are not priviledged to know we just have to go with the statement as provided by FAZ. so instead of arguing on semantics why dont you concetrate on fending for your family as you will not get an answer any time soon kid. so get on with work.

  23. Let me add my take on this sad occassion.l personally feel that our doctors should closely look at themselves for poorly managing the presidents health.Leaders all over the world suffer a myraid of heart problems but how many have died in office in the recent past.Dick Cheney the hawkish veep in usa has had 2 heart attacks but they have properly managed him.Bill Clinton suffered a massive heart attack that would have taken him but he has been properly managed and maintain. That medical team around the president responsible for his welfare have let the nation down. But knowing Zambia they will say what can we do when death comes it comes. The did thei best with the hand that they were deal

  24. 38, Dick Cheney has a heart problem yes, Clinton did not suffer a massive heart attack but a minor suggery to the heart. Mwanawasa would have delegated the travelling part to his vice and ministers. But we just need a young and fit leader

  25. Despite the sad news yesterday, the Zambian team played against VFL Kirchheim after observing a minute of silence and trounced them 2-0. I was one of the approx. 30 Zambians who turned up to support our boys, we’re truly proud of them. Life must go on.

  26. LT. DO YOU WANT TO START SELF CENSORSHIP OR WHAT. WHAT IS IT ABOUT MAIL ADRESSES AND WEBSITES. AM OUT OF HERE.

conman has gone to prepare the burial site for our beloved. i will not be part of a site that wants to get personal details of its bloggers. ZOL tried it but they lost a lot of people and had to revisit their old format. so follow suit.
