Leave first lady out of presidential debate, Teta

Share

Ruling MMD Chairperson for Information and Publicity, Ben Tetamashimba has urged party members to stop implicating the First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa in the presidential by-election debate.

Mr. Tetamashimba said Mrs. Mwanawasa has already clearly stated her position on the matter, adding that she could not turn round after the husband’s death.

In a press statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr. Tetamashimba said the first lady’s position which she gave to the nation was that she was not available to contest the republican presidency.

Mr. Tetamashimba’s reaction comes in the wake of a continuing heated debate on whether first lady Maureen Mwanawasa should contest in the forth coming presidential by-election or not.

He said Mrs. Mwanawasa instead deserves to be helped by the government to look after the children as suggested earlier by Patriotic Front president Michael Sata.

Mr. Tetamashimba has since commended that PF leader for suggesting the idea of looking after the Mwanawasa family.

He has also cautioned some party members against mounting pressure in the party and charged that such people had an agenda to cause division in the party.

Mr. Tetamashimba has also said that he would on August 30, give a comprehensive statement on why Vice President Rupiah Banda should stand as a presidential candidate on the MMD ticket for the forthcoming presidential by-elections in November.

He said a statement will also be given on what transpired between Mr. Sata and Mrs. Mwanawasa in Chipata yesterday.

And Former  Kitwe Mayor  William Nyirenda has called on the ruling MMD to adopt acting President Rupiah Banda for the forthcoming Presidential by-election to maintain political stability.

ZANIS Kitwe Reports that Mr Nyirenda who is also a prominent Kitwe lawyer, said in an interview that the  MMD has no time to identify and come up with another  leader within this short  time hence the need to adopt Mr Banda.

Mr Nyirenda noted that allowing  various people in the MMD to contest for the vacant position will breed chaos and disunity in the ruling party and the country as a whole.

He also advised  the opposition political parties vying for the republican presidency to seriously rethink their position and allow Mr Rupiah Banda to take the mantle of power and complete the three years remaining for the late Dr  Mwanawasa’s  term of Office.

Mr Nyirenda said the opposition political parties must support the candidature of Mr Banda to allow the MMD complete their term and all the economic programmes embarked on by the deceased head of state.

He said the opposition political parties should wait for the 2011 tripartite elections which were more competitive than the forthcoming presidential bye election.

He also appealed to the people that were sitting on the National Constitution  Conference to learn from this experience when drafting the new constitution by making the Vice president a Presidential running mate.

In Southern Province, Chief Mwanachingwala of Mazabuka has advised the MMD to nominate Vice President, Rupia Banda as its presidential candidate during the forthcoming presidential by-election.

The chief told ZANIS in Mazabuka today that floating a different candidate other than Mr Rupiah Banda will split the ruling party into divisions.

He said Mr Banda has proved that he is capable of running the affairs of the country as evidenced by the manner in which he has handled national duties when the late president Mwanawasa was hospitalised in France.

And chief Mwanachingwala has advised the MMD to handle the succession of president Mwanawasa with care to avoid spliting the party.

He said the current situation where senior members are issuing statements on their preferred candidates is not healthy for the ruling party.

  1. Zambia is a country with a constitution, you Mayor where did you get your education?? IN shangombo? you are so Ignorant about the constitution, you dont even understand ‘By-elections’

  2. She had already stated her opinion sometime early this year that she is not interested in contesting the presidential seat or to be mwanawasa’s successor. So let us remove Maureen out of this race.

  3. ba teta finally have spoken out, try to be good to our incoming president (sata) am impressed u have started thinking.keep it up

  4. Reading between the lines, Teta is trying to remind Maureen that she had said that she will not stand. But she can change her mind and issue the “its the people’s will” speech and justify her standing as President. Nevertheless, if MMD pick RB as their candidate, they might as well shot themselves in the leg, because he cannot compete with Sata or HH. MMD is heading for disaster unless they pick either Magande or Mutati who would put up a much more braver fight against Sata and HH.

  5. Wayaka moto. She is’nt supposed to show her animosity on selected individuals- Why expel Sata and not Nevers or Nawakwi , I thought they had a chance to boby view.

    Lord Kaisha

  6. Being humble does not mean someone has got leadership qualities. This man is better placed at VIP level. There are a lot of big brains in MMD who shared the same vision of this country with LPM. Let us not experiment on RB lest we lose the focus.

  7. Let Us mourn with respect, all I have seen and head is contrary to a decent funeral however we have the beneficiaries at stake. Now the reality is beneficiaries the end of the road has come for you no matter how you vent your anger at Sata probably save you energy to chant new opportunities.
Levy was a decent man who was surrounded by wolves championing support for him and yet they were hurters worse than Sata. Ask yourselves why such a good leader decided to reconcile with Sata? Ask yourselves if he was around would he be happy with the name calling of Sata, people we clear and intelligent enough to know that most of you people demonizing Sata you either people who pretended to love Levy b

  8. This is very frustrating, a prominent lawyer such as Nyirenda coming up with such advice…where are we heading too? Which law is he following or where did he get his degree? RB was chosen not to take over but to follow orders therefore he’s not an automatic replacement for Levy. At least Magande has made himself available and won’t be listening to empty tins such as the Mayor and Teta…

  9. It true politics is a dirty game and I wouldn’t encourage any of my children to take it up.

Why should we start quarrelling even before we burry our beloved PRESIDENT(M.H.S.R.I.P)

It is like we are more interested in looking at who will succeed Mwanawasa than the actual mourning as at now.

    This is a grate shame.

The big man KK at one time mentioned that God will not hear our prayers if we can not forgive our selves first.

Let us remove the tention and then look up to GOD.

  10. we clear and intelligent enough to know that most of you people demonizing Sata you either people who pretended to love Levy because of money or a Job. Ministers are in a hurry to succeed levy, why is this being viewed as an opportunity? Let us the poor who did not get a job or money from him but still salute his cause and mourn him respectively. O’ yes Levy was a man, a husband, a father, a President and human he made mistakes people pointed out, sometimes he was arrogant, at times he listened but his accountability was that he reconciled his position to the peoples wish. Now I believe he had a lot of misleading Ministers.

  11. #2 u r rite,he dnt understand the constitution n the reporters evn cal him a prominent lawyer,my GOD

  12. tata! dont blind us. you think the nation doesent know what you discuss closed doors. that woman( maureen) has high ambitions of contesting. we are not kids to be fooled.

  13. Iwe Tenta, isala kanwa. Moreen tewakulandilako. Are you trying to reconcile with Moreen after your unpopular episode of predicting that LPM would not lead again. Look at what Moreen did to Sata. Who are you for you to think that you can defend her. She knows no reconciliation and she is not ashamed to show that. Just clean yourself from the mad you splattered when you brought up the issue of succession. You must be another nut who cant learn a lesson from anything.

  14. is this country serious..who are the *****s proposing that LPM’s wife should take over???..even in grief you cannot be that stupid!!!

  15. # 7 FBI, Satan will never rule Zambia. He is the one that caused so much pressure on Mwanawasa together with his friend Mugabe. Sata is a dictator who has even been noticed even within his party by many people. No wonder he will not even win the election. Saviour Chishimba has promised to do justice and save the country from going into the teeth of a devil in the name of Satan.

  16. I hope for Zambia’s sake we stick to the constitution, we have been clamoring for a new one, but if we can’t even respect the current one, we might as well abandon the current NCC. This whole process just brings to the fore, the ignorance that permeates our country in spite of having spent so much on free education since independence & boasting of educated citizens, am well aware that our literacy levels have nose dived but am still hopeful that the few spared ones can save our country, lets respect the RULE OF LAW!!!!

  17. Teta is not Molini’s (sic) spokesperson so i am sure he is in a way reminding her of what she said.

For the moment she has not said anything so its unfair to demonise her. She becomes fair game for scrutiny and criticism the moment she announces her presidential ambitions. I suggest that people avoid insulting her just because of what Chibome bombe said.

  18. Gentlemen, are you not pundit enough to read between lines. This is very explicity.I’m not a fanatic of MMD but i can see that these three years left for the completion of Levy’s term no opposition would win the race i can bet on that. How is ba Sata going to convince the rest of the provinces apart from Northern, part of Luapula and part of copperbelt in these 40 days left?Even HH,how is going to do it,in the rest of the provinces apart from southern and part of western?Rupiah Banda is the Next Republican President.

  19. Gentlemen, are you not pundit enough to read between lines?.This is very explicity.I’m not a fanatic of MMD but i can see that these three years left for the completion of Levy’s term no opposition would win the race i can bet on that. How is ba Sata going to convince the rest of the provinces apart from Northern, part of Luapula and part of copperbelt in these 40 days left?Even HH,how is going to do it,in the rest of the provinces apart from southern and part of western?Rupiah Banda is the Next Republican President.

  20. Gentlemen, are you not pundit enough to read between lines?.This is very explicity.I’m not a fanatic of MMD but i can see that these three years left for the completion of Levy’s term, no opposition would win the race i can bet on that. How is ba Sata going to convince the rest of the provinces apart from Northern, part of Luapula and part of copperbelt in these 40 days left?Even HH,how is going to do it,in the rest of the provinces apart from southern and part of western?Rupiah Banda is the Next Republican President.

  21. I think funerals are now becoming the new fashion in Zambian politics. If the MMD pick RB then we are headed for another state funeral. The man was born in 1937 in Zimbabwe, he is too old as it is. Mr. Sata is also a potential state funeral candidate. Why can’t we find someone young, inspiring, uniting and humble. I have in mind Dr. Nevers Mumba or Dr. Rodger Chongwe, these are people that can take over. MMD must pick an outsider like the two above. RB is ok as acting President until the next by elections in November nothing more. Let us not make state funerals the new fashion in Zambia.

  22. Ba Former Kitwe Mayor ba William bushe muli ba prominent lawyer or you used crooks to admitted to the bar. How do you advise the opposition to seriously rethink their position and allow RB to take the mantle of power and complete LPM`s 3 year on a silver platter. We are sorry ba Prominent Lawyer we are going to follow the Constitution and vote for our new President. Takwaba ubupyani bakwa kateka mu Zambian constitution. LAZ should discipline you for attempting to urinate on our constitution.

  23. Yes Teta is right by what he has said. I agree Maureen siad that but come to think of it,the statement was made when LPM was stil alive. Guys those of you that are saying we leave her out of this, have you thought of it in these lines? The situ is now differnt and as human beings we are bound to change our minds. Maureen never saw LPM out of power the way it has happened so didn’t we. So guys those of us that know Maureens’ power hungry character, think twice about leaving her out of as a contestant.

  24. Why are these people trying to mislead others. Honestly Mrs M has very high ambitions of contesting the presidency. Lets wait. Its just a matter of time. Let the mourning come to a close and you will all believe.

  25. Maureen came into the debate, what are you saying iwe Teta, just make sure you have enough money in your account to ensure that you can jump ship when the new Government comes to power.

  26. The man should have been buried this week so that bonse ama aspiratants come out in the open.Others are just hiding behind mourning while those coming out in the open now are being looked upon like they have committed some sin, worse off those within the MMD.

  27. I think the by -election should be about the economy and the future. So lets look at people like Mutati,HH and Magande.Forget people like SATA lets be progresive.Think about people who are starving and jobless.God has given us another opportunity to jam start the economy with fresh Ideas, dont waste it and continue complaining.Zambia can become like Botswana within a short time with one of these people in state house .We need a technocrat in state house with the right skills.

  28. Any one who meets the requirements (under the zambian consittution)can stand as president. Its us the people who VOTE and choose our prefered candidate.

why do we make it sound like it is those politicians who choose leaders 4 us? WE VOTE 4 LEADERS OF OUR CHOISE!!!WHAT U CHOOSE IS WHAT U GET

  29. Is Mutati ‘clean’?? Do you know him? Think again. We want the corruption cases in court to go all the way to their logical, legal conclusions and not to be ‘nolle’d by an eligible prospect (tenant)of Chimbokaila.

  30. The First Lady has an agenda, lets wait and see.If the MMD thinks she can be sold so easily, let them go ahead. But my fear is at the way we Zambians worship People.Mwanawasa was not a god to be worshiped in this manner(to an extent of declaring Sept3 as a Holiday). What will happen when KK dies?,Are we going to declare April 28 a holiday?.We even failed to honour the National Soccer Team which perished in Gabon, let alone to look after the Orphans Our players left.
Let us be realistic with the way we handle matters. Its disappointing to see even learned Lawyers losing focus in this way.

  31. The First lady or now former First Lady (since the Office of President is vacant, there surely can’t be A First Lady), remains a force to watch. She wants to use a sympathy vote.
Sad to note that Mwanawasa abhorred and fought corruption, yet the methods being used to succeed him are steeped in acts of corruption, manipulation, trickery and fraud. I pray that God will grant Zambia, a leader, and a leader that she deserves.

  32. ‘He also had to face accusations of nepotism with his wife Maureen often seen as the real power behind the throne.

She was instrumental in persuading him to run again for president in September 2006 only months after he had suffered his first stroke.

The Zambian leader had a long record of ill health, having suffered from prostate cancer, hypertension, diabetes and injuries from a road accident in 1993 when he was deputy president’.
    AFP

  33. I don´t know what is wrong with Teta. I never knew this guy was so thick- headed. Clearly, he has his own agenda in pushing for RB to be president. Even going as far as wanting to issue a comprehensive statement. For what? Maybe he thinks RB might be easier to manipulate than Magande.

Let MMD go ahead and nominate RB. One thing for sure, Zambians are not gullible. Just ask Chiluba and Kaunda. The moment RB is adopted, that´s the end of the run for MMD being in power.

RB should´nt even have considered to run. His generation is done with. Magande is definately a better candidate. Teta´s days of using his a#* to speak are numbered.

  34. I joined the blog just over a week ago coz i found it interesting but as time goes on i found that what ever report comes out we have the same people posting there same opinions without taking into consideration why that or this particular statemnt might mean the the political scenario. For instance know that Maureen should be taken out of the picture what happens say for eg if her name should show up on the ballots. Or since there is supposed to be continuetion of the so called good policies what is the best way to continue because in my opinion 3 year continuety can only mean that the current gov cont otherwise no continuety we start afresh is that what we want?if it is lets debate that…

  35. People RB was born in Zim, according to our Const. how can he stand? educate me. Above all we need a new blood, lets move forward LPM has lead the way too bad he is no more.

  36. If you know what democracy is, you will understand that anyone legible can aspire.
So the issue of rulling out some people is very un democratic. That is why when people who think should not be given chance to exercise their democratic form parties, they becaome CEOs instead of presidents. They are not familiar with democratic principles, but instead they begin to define their own democracy.
I think the ballot is very important in democracy, not anger, not insults, not violency. I know that this kind of democracy irritates some people, unfortunately.

  37. POINT OF CORRECTION LSK TIMES, HEADLINE SHOULD READ;

LEAVE FORMER FIRST LADY OUT OF PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

    THANK YOU!

  38. Just like mulongoti i dont see anything wrong with Maureen standing . If she has political ambitions let her excercise her rights. Let the people decide. This notion of telling people not to stand because you dont like them is un democratic. Let her get in the political arena and she will regret she ever decided to stand…

  39. ala what makes u think a young one cant die,are u that stupid? ba sata can manage 10 yrs he is fit he just had a big head that time…all the youth are for him anyway.

  40. You can not tellme that each report represents a different debating chance for you to look at things in a different manner and present an agument for it

  41. Hey check out a church in Nigeria called SCOAN International and tell me, if its really true about what that Pastor is saying about our President, ati he predicted our presidents death surely
just type it in your google search engine….

  42. People, people cool it please…we shall know who the annointed one is in due season. Meanwhile, let’s all honour the great man who reached the end of his journey. Lesa a tupale.

  43. Is Teta, also Maureen’s spokesperson, Let Maureen’s spokesperson comment. I hope MMCI wont die like Hope Foundation. I have not hear any statement of condolences from MMCI board or staff, Did MMCI have any staff.

  44. HEY CHECK OUT A CHURCH IN NIGERIA CALLED SCOAN INTERNATIONAL AND TELL ME, IF IT’S REALLY TRUE ABOUT WHAT THAT PASTOR IS SAYING ABOUT OUR PRESIDENT, ATI HE PREDICTED OUR PRESIDENTS DEATH SURELY
JUST TYPE IT IN YOUR GOOGLE SEARCH ENGINE….

  45. Teta will be bruided….should his agenda fail. I see so many bruises in MMD. For once the opposition is in a confortable and stable position. With all these declarations by Kavindele, Magande, Teta for RB, etc..

Events following the burial of our departed presido will be interesting.

  46. So elyashi ili line mpanka bakashike bane? Awe ine natendwa mwe. Where is that woman who is a graduate and was wired by the hubby for 7 years and that guy who had his balls eaten cut off by his dog? Olo pali imwe tapali eyo abakashi bapumapo olo basakutana something paluchelo? Seems everything is cosy out there expect for people not invited for funerals and others being banned from contesting the presidency.

  47. I think Banda is not tough enough to rule Zambia!Ministers will take advantage of him and steal money. He’ll be just controlled like a robot by MMD kaponyas. He looks to be not a man of himself.Mind you ,he was chosen as a vice president because of MMD winning Eastern province. If MMD lost eastern, Banda wouldn’t have been a VP.To tell the truth Banda is not qualified to be a president. This is problem we’ve in zambia.Presidents of zambia don’t like to talk about succession so long as they are ruling. It happened in kaunda’s time, chiluba and then mwanawasa. Now can u see the crisis?who is to blame?
crazy country with useless selfish leaders!

  48. RB has shown leadership from the time he was put in office till now. And much more from the time president LPM, MHSRIP, fell ill.
His integrity and morality have not revealed any evils. He has been calm, focussed and sober. To me that is good leadership quality, but to some people good leadership means shouting and insulting and differing with people too much.
Now, some potential “leaders” have capacity to take this nation to where Zimbabwe is. We can get emotional, blind ourselves and run away from reality, some people have characteristics that are inclined towards chaos. However, we need to allow them stand as candidates because they have democratic right, but let us vote wizely.

  49. Us as a people are responsible for voting for who becomes president. Unlike in US where for nominations of a candidate the people vote we have party organs that decide who should stand on ther behalf. If you are from PF support you candidate do not ask others from other party not to select this one or that what this tell me is that some of you people are actually afraid that Maureen might win. tell PF MS cant stand HH UPND cant stand then want if in all the parties we pick the perfect person to stand then what? if you want to cainpain on the blog speak for your leader and not who is and not supposed to stand in other parties.

  50. This lady must be crazy…Look at her the way she appears…it is like she is enjoying evey moment of the procession. Shame on you….Zambians let us unite and vote them out. But one thing …Opposition fom one coalition…please hear me.

  51. Under the headline “The East endorses RB”, the ZNBC web site is reporting that the MMD executive Committee in Eastern Province has endorsed Vice President Rupiah Banda, to succeed President Levy Mwanawasa as republican President. 12 senior Provincial Executive Committee and members of the MMD in Eastern Province say Mr. Banda should take over as President for continuity and stability. This is contained in statement released to ZNBC news in Lusaka, Tuesday. Some of the 12 officials include the provincial chairman Kennedy Zulu, Minister of Transport, Dora Siliya and Provincial Minister, Charles Shawa.

  52. On Monday; Northern Province Minister Lameck Chibombamilimo called on the MMD national Executive Committee to consider first Lady Maureen to succeed her husband. How many times is it going to be repeated before it sinks into the thick skulls of those advocating it? By the MMD’s own rules, Rupiah Banda does not qualify to succeed Mwanawasa, by virtue of the fact that he has NOT been a member of the Party for at least THREE years; the same rule they used to justify Professor Chirwa’s disqualification to the post!

  53. I am having so much fun watching the MMD self-destruct all because of greed and lack of foresight!!! GO GBM!! GO Austin Chewe!! GO Maureen!! GO, GO, GO. And take the MMD with you!!! Or what will be left of it after you’re done stubbing each other the in the back. Clearly Mwanawasa has taken the MMD with him to the grave!

  54. Maureen in my view never cut it as a first lady from the very start. She’s just a viciously ambitious chick ready to clutch to power over her dead hubby’s body and anyone else body for that matter…shes a blood-thirst power hungry vixen is what she is.

  55. Ba mudala ba Banda ubufi too much, he will just bring back the UNIP mentality of one state. Please people we cannot trust these fellas anymore. Salaries will be hiked even more with Banda in-charge. Zambia will move many years backwards with these continuing governing the country. Shame! Looks like the young have no chance to lead the country. Another rigging am seeing it coming to insure MMD stays in power.

  56. Conman for president. I will lie in repose and wait for our president’s burial before announcing my candidature on the munyeletu party ticket.

  57. I don’t trust experiments where the office of the presidency is concerned. This might appear to be a small election but in fact it might determine who will win the 2011 elections as well. It is very difficult to un-sit any ruling party. Because of this I will not recommend experimenting with Rupiah Banda. He is a good guy, but not a clever one! I know him from the Kaunda era. He is very weak on issues of tribalism and nation-building. In fact he is not very different from Sata where tribalism is concerned. Intellectually he is a light-weight and cannot run a modern economy. RB is completely clueless—check how he handled the salaries issue!! Experiment at your own peril!!! Good luck!!

  58. This presidential debate is really boring, zo ona mwe. I fully agree with #64 ba Mwine.
LT, I suggest you activate a forum specifically for presidency and give us “normal” headlines in future. We are not all into discussing politics, some of us just want our nation to move forward, with or without MMD. Even one chief can rule Zambia if we all support him, just look at Swaziland!

  59. RB will be defeated by HH or Sata period.
Anyway we are fed up with MMD and its family trees..Let us try Sata or HH now..moreover Sata is almost dying also, so he will do well so that we mourn him more than we are morning Levy.

  60. Magande has nothing to bring to MMD. Electoral politics is about numbers. Southern Province has already gone and will vote for HH. So Magande is complrtely irrelevant.

Rupia brought Eastern to MMD, that is why Mwanawasa appointed him VP and not Magande. If Magande had any political sense he wouldn’t even contest. MMD would have to be *****s to pick him.

  61. UNIP ya bwela bane!Banda is UNIP!!
MMD is no longer anymore!!Too bad the man is’nt even a MMD member!!woooooh-chapwa we’ve gone 30years backwards.Kaunda in control again.
who is to blame, chiluba or the late lpm?
well,I’m really sure Banda was not prepared to be a president!!!
Africans twalikosa imitwe! No wonder whites tell us we’re born with low IQ.

  62. I said to her: ‘I’m very sorry,’ then she blew up,” Mr Sata said.

He went on to accuse her of using the funereal tour as a bid for her to stand for president in three months time.

“It is her who has turned the whole funeral into politics,” Mr Sata told the BBC’s Focus on Africa programme, adding that a widow should stay at home to mourn not tour the country.

  63. Chibombamilimo is an outsider to the MMD winning calculus. There is no role he could point at as having played in all the victory years MMD has been winning. He pleaded for the Matero constituency to fielded in 2006. But because of his usual loose mouth talk, strategists refused to avail on him. They left him alone to lose. Hence defeat to PF’s Sinyangwe.Without MMD strategists Milimo would never win even a ward. If he cannot for himself how would he manage a campaign without the blessings of Party strategists, machinists, confidants and winning tiers? His, is dangerous appeasement of defeat. He will never have a place in the MMD continuity Administration picking it up from November.

  64. HK, to simply say let us try this one or the other may not be very helpful.
We would like to share ideas, and not feelings.
an idea can be supported by rational principles, but a feeling can only be explained by the environment, and does not normally come by way of reasoning but by response to environment.
Let us bring out issues, so that our time on this thread may be spent fruitfully.

  65. We vow to deliver a continuity victory to MMD. We are no apologetic over our conviction and unwavering principles. We stand to be vilified should MMD lose it.The choice man is absolutely winning.

  66. Did she writte any invitation letter to any one for her to identfy sata not invitated? She just want to compaign using a casket. She will bring splitness in the part if nominated as president to contest the position

  67. Comments by Mr Mpombo that those who may have anything linking them to corrupt practices would not be comsidered for the top MMD post must apply to all applicants for that post. One of the things LPM will be remembered for is his effort to address the issue of corruption. He introduced a new culture which frowns on abuse of office etc. A clean track record must be one of the essential qualifications for any presidential candidate otherwise we will be mocking LPM. All must be clean, not just scrutinising one or two. Let them all come under the scope, Mutati, Kavindele, Mpombo,Nevers (in MDD continuously for 3yrs?)Magande, HH, Wakwi, etc etc. Standards must go higher not lower.

  68. Ba 26, its not 40 days remaining. do your calculations properly.

if maureen decides to run for the presidency elections, then that will prove that how power hungry she has been all this while.

  69. Imwe Go home ala. Leave Maureen alone, she is the best candidate so far!!! She is the only one without the word “Corruption” hangng on her head abit like me actually. Fwe bana kashi twanaka nabaume…….Give Maureen a chance to rule.

    Maureen + President Experience = Vison 2030.

RB too old to reach 2030
    Ngondo wont even reach 2011
    Sata too old for 2030
Magnade not only old but no braces to fit him
    HH Not very impressive.

  70. Advise..It will come to pass. RB is a bad draw for MMD trump card. Only those who cant see further than sympathetic vote think otherwise.Even in the alliance, HH did not benefit from Eastern Votes therefore they are neither here or there. RB will take them all.
Now look at Lusaka.. This is a heavily contested city where RB and Sata will have a share, but HH have a big Safe vote as well..no change.
Central, NW votes are likely to shift to HH or Sata.
The CB votes definitely will weigh in for Sata..add Luapula and northern…
prediction.. Sata 37%, HH, 34%, RB 26%.. But Sata will need the UPND to have sound parliament..so HH becomes Vice..MMD yalala.

  71. #80, RB has the democratic right to file for nomination and I fully support that. However, I would rather experiment with someone who has been closer to the design process of the current economic machinery and also represents future ideals for the country….someone like Felix Mutati.

  72. Maybe Banda will be floated. It would make sense as he is already Veep. Someone wrote earlier that Banda was born in Zim. Is this true? And if so I fail to see how this is relevant. I don’t understand why the constitution is so exclusive when it comes to who can run for Prez. Today there are many Zambians abroad, many of whom have children born outside the country. Does this make our children any less Zambian?

  73. Mr. Macandi ohh sorry Magande is useless and will not even get any votes in Southern Province, isn’t this the same guy that lost in his own village and he had to move to Chilanga where his victory has been in dispute because of corruption during campaigning?

By the way is Nevers Mumba still MMD or is he still with his Reform Party?

Katele Kalumba is the man that is taking applications for the MMD top post!! Uncle Katele please use your juju(ubwanga) to choose your relative as the next MMD President so that we can start a fresh family tree.

  77. men and women maybe if we give chance to a woman some of these old timers in government will be no more if we want to experiment i feel this should be the time remenber its 3 years and not five Sata and HH will need a full term to prove there metal or unless, this i am sure of, If they win they will change constitution to allow them the full 5 years Anyone realised how the who world over more and more women taking up positions of responsibility and they do actually get things done

  78. Who did Maureen really give her Love and support? The President or LPM. I answer

Maureen loves Power so much that he gave her only begotten husband that when he dies she might ascend to the throne at plot one.

  79. 1. What does the constitution of Zambia say on place of birth. Reuters reported that RB was born in Gwanda, Souther Rodesia – Zimbabwe in 1937. I would thick technically he would be disqualifed to stand as he is not Zambian by birth or does the constitution only talk about parents i.e. his parenst might have been born in Northern Rodesia..
    2. As for MMD membership(one has to have been a member for over 2 years), I have been told that his supporters (Teta/Mulongoti) say he joined earlier than 2006 and was in the background campaigning and thats why MMD got 17 seats in Eastern province..

  80. Zambia’s mourning turns political
Michael Sata talking to Maureen Mwanawasa in Chipata
Mr Sata says Mrs Mwanawasa ‘blew up’ when he knelt before her

Zambian opposition leader Michael Sata has told the BBC that he was chased away from a mourning gathering for late President Levy Mwanawasa by his widow.

He denied reports that he had been provocative to Maureen Mwanawasa, who is taking the body on a tour of the country ahead of a state funeral.

“I said to her: ‘I’m very sorry,’ then she blew up,” Mr Sata said.

He went on to accuse her of using the funereal tour as a bid for her to stand for president in three months time.

“It is her who has turned the whole funeral into politics,” Mr Sata

  81. Very disappointed with Maureen Mwanawasa. She is sending a wrong message to the people of Zambia and disrespecting herself.
MMD should let the VP continue.
That is the best advice i would give even though i do not support them

  82. Well, what the elders who have spoken in this article are doing is simply expressing their democrtic right to self expression.
What they say is not binding. In a democracy, any eligible Zambian is free to contest elections and its up to thye Zambian populace to decide who they want. So, no one must be giving instructions on who the leader should be.

  83. e said that he would be standing in the forthcoming elections

“My party will participate in the elections, there’s nothing politicking about that – but she must also come out in the open instead of hiding in a dead man, instead of exhibiting a dead man all over the country.”

President Mwanawasa died in France last week, having suffered a stroke in June from which he never recovered.

He will be given a state funeral on 3 September, on what would have been his 60th birthday.

    Reconciled

Mr Sata said that despite being chased away on Sunday from viewing the body in Chipata, 580 km (360 miles) east of the capital, Lusaka, no-one could stop him from attending the funeral.

    He added that he an

  84. Bill Bedman, I concur 100%. Funerals are open to all in African tradition. Mr. Sata is feeling guilt hence his need to travel across Zambia to vie LPM’s body. They reconciled after such a ferocious name calling relationship. Just imagine how he feels, he is still alive after LPM had him evacuated to SA and yet the man who he criticized incessantly is dead. Mr. Sata is feeling immense guilt from the sound of things. These things happen but at least they reconciled. The First Lady’s behaviour leaves much to be desired. It’s not in our culture for someone to refuse condolences from well-wishers, it’s taboo I’m really shocked. It’s all over the net and it was caught on camera, oh dear.

  85. People Sata also said he was there to receive the body and witness quard of honour what sense does that make had he not been chased was he going to do this for all provinces what would be the motive behind that he is not part of th people managing the tour

  86. So money(rupiah) b the zimbabwean wants to be the president of Zambia. When are we going to have a proper Zambian as President? The late LPM (MHSRIP) was apparently from Mozambique, Rupiah Banda from Zimbabwe, Sata from Tanzania, Kavindele from Angola, Magande from Northern Zimbabwe, Sondashi (Angola/ DRC), Mabenga from Namibia. Where are the true Zambians, please Zambia is for Zambians only!!

  87. JT, RB our vice is the best candidate. He is the only one who hasn’t spoken nonsense or fanned the flames with the vitriol that some officials are coming up with in their hopeless statments like that minister in Kasama, what the f£$k?!

Mr. Sata agrees RB should be left to carry on business, so has FTJ and KK. Others are busy talking about succession instead of sorting out the funeral, others are chasing mourners from Chipata. Has anyone heard RB come up with any nonsensical statements. I know she is grieving but I really can’t get my head around the First Lady’s behaviour, really.

  88. RB, as we all know has never had any higher political aspirations. At party level, UNIP, he has never contested even for the veep’s office. RB has just been brought into lime light by LPM. I suppose LPM picked him for the reason that he paused no threat to whoever he wanted to later on hand pick as his successor. RB would be the worst president we could ever have both as a nation and as a continent. Lets look beyond continuing LPM’s plicies;lets look at developing new policies and implementing them. I find it insulting to say we need a leader to continue where LPM has left. We dont want LPM to be ruling we want a president who is their own person. We will be on auto pilot if RB takes over

  89. ctd from 114….or indeed anyone who would simply go there to complete or implement what LPM started. I find it nauseating to allude that LPM is the GOLD STANDARD of development. You dont need to be an economist or accountant to understand why Zambia has achieved so much growth in the last few years but only to follow the world events closely. I admit discipline has helped to win off the debt cancellations and increased donor funding etc. Lets give LPM his credit but accept other contributing factors. He is simply to a greater extent a lucky #9 football player facing an empty go post.

  90. Rupiah Banda is not Zimbabwean, honestly some people really display their ignorance. This is the hypocrisy that hinders development.

KK was born in Zambia, parents were Malawian. Is he Zambian or Malawian? Now that VP might stand as candidate you want to shoot him down. RB may have been born in Zim why don’t you go and ask him where his parents are from. His mother died a few months ago and where was her village? Check your facts.

If he stood the Eastern province would no doubt vote RB and Northern (largest electorate) cousins may do the same if they see he is stronger candidate. I fear for Mr. Sata’s health otherwise it would be a good election.

  91. On top of that Chiluba is from DRC, Kaunda from Malawi, Nevers Mumba is also from DRC. Inonge Lewanika from Namibia and South Africa. Ladies and gentlemen, who are the true Zambians and were are they, Guy Scott is from Europe, Dipak Patel from India, do we honestly have any true Zambians that can take this young beautiful nation forward?

  92. Einstein, look at RB’s track record. It has held Zambia in good stead. LPM’s choice for his vice was a God send. The next President wil only serve 3 years. It would make sense if RB continued as he has done for the past couple of months.

I wonder if people will still support their “chosen” candidates when things go wrong! Look at what happened when we wanted young (inexperienced) blood to take over so quickly in 1991, he called himself a political dribbler and it was a ghetto gangster party all round. Some of those who were part of the ganster party want to come back. RB doesn’t want anything from anyone, which makes him the best candidate..period

  93. RB was born in Zimbabwe..We dont know if his parents where Zambian or malawian. He need to point his true roots or we suspect was one of the kaunda boys he was busy promoting to protect him.

  94. Anonymous, it doesn’t matter where your parents are from if you are born in Zambia, you are Zambian! One Zambia, One Nation (regardless of gender, tribe ,race, colour or religion).

No one is really Zambian. Many people have realtives across many borders. If this talk continues we’ll have anarchy in nthe country. Zambia is too precious and beautiful to be stained by bloodshed and tarnished by the brush of tribalism and idle non-constructive chat. We harbour refugees, I for one wouldn’t want Zambians turning into refugees just because people started fighting about where people are from.

  95. There will surely be anarchy.. The prophesy is already there. Chiluba natured the seed. LPM built a Family tree. You think it will just be easy like a knife in butter.
This is defining moment for Zambia. Be ready for secessionists views..

  96. HK, RB is Zambian and not Malawian. His parents are from Chipata or Jumbe ( South Luangwa National park, where Mama Betty’s from)

He is a family friend. If you remember your social studies, you will know that KK never hid his roots, we all knew David and Helen Kaunda were from Malawi. His children have Tumbuka(Zambian & Malawian tribe)names: Wezi, Waza, Masuzyo, Panji, Tilyenji, Musata etc. He may have been born in Chinsali but these names don’t look Bemba to me hence he did not try to hide anything. So who was RB protecting.

  97. Anonymous, being Zambian is not about where you were born. It’s because we prize this being born in Zambia thing that we deny citizenship to investors and other people that have decided to settle in Zambia, therefore they all act like aliens and milk Zambia for what it has with the full knowledge that they will never be accepted as Zambian. Once we demistfiy citizenship and make it easier for people to become citizens our country will start developing. Out of interest, where do you live Zambia or in the diaspora?

  98. HK, Zambians are too proud for such crap. We will stand united. We have not come all this way just to go back to primitive times. United we stand, divided we fall.

  99. I don’t know what the hell Shinka Manyela is talking about. Can someone clarify if it has anything to do with what we are talking about or is (s)he a random punter?

  100. One can predict the electoral results well in advance. Currently Mwanawasa’s death has brought the MMD the sympathy vote and any person that contests this gunshot electoral demand will decidedly lose. Better to let the incumbent come in with his lacking leadership skills and any serious contender should look ahead for the general elections. Whatever the case – mediocrity prevails in Zambia.

  101. Us in diaspora look at this with amusement, whats going on in our country,if its true,Maureen wants the presidence after 90 days,am sure thats personal while others would say she needs to mourn her husband,if its just those in cabinet pushing the agenda then we know they want to keep their jobs, again if after 90 days she could as well remarry if its personal and again those with the agenda could even push it, we wait and see

  102. Politics may be dirty Comrades hence we need pipo like ‘U’ to come and clean this bunkum. Otherwise if we let this ingrates(some are good)to their own devices,it will be i and i to cry.
    So rise up dear bloggers!

p.s please keep this blog clean – no vulgar lingua.

  103. I have never head namfwilwa chasing or choosing who should attend the funeral like Maureen did. I wonder how some *****s can even go to the extent of considering thís kind of a widow to lead the nation with a witch heart! We need moterly ofr fatherly hearted people, not personal hatred even in funerals that brings Unity anywhere in the Zambian Culture. This kindof a woman is not my type. I had always wanted a woman President but Maureen alifaula! Just to remind you Zambians, lets not make a Mwanawasa kingdom! PICK ON INTELLECTUALS NOT ***** HEADS TO BE AROGANT MINITERS

    WAKE UP Zambians!

  104. Milo Anonymous, you’r right she is the former first lady…or will she want to be perpertually know as Firlt Lady as her husband died in office?

Maybe that’s why she verbally attacked Mr. Sata. For once the man was doing something right (I’m not a supporter)and she just embarassed herself, her family, the country all at once. I bet you she’s gong to blame Mr. Sata for this. He is a loose cannon but I really doubt he went there to cause trouble.

She is losing friends and making enemies quickly. You know what bululus are like in Zed, they’ll give her a right ticking off. Maybe she needs to rest and not travel everywhere with the body. It’s been a long illness.

  105. #129, It’s also comical to us not in the diaspora. The good thing is the late president stood by rule of law. The law shall guide us through to the right prsident. It’s a pity our laws aren’t as decisive as those in Pakistan…you know…taking it personal when the constitution or presdential powers are flouted. Us the ordinary folk wouldn’t even know when such things happen.

  106. [afrol News, 26 August – Zambians have expressed disappointment with decision of late president Levy Mwanawasa’s widow to chase away main opposition leader from attending a funeral scheduled for 3 September. President Mwanawasa died last Tuesday in a Paris hospital, after initially suffering a stroke in June at African Union Summit in Egypt][website:afrol.com]. This is bad journalism. Mauren has not prevented Sata to attend the burial of Levy, has she?

  107. Finally Zambians are beng vocal about what they want for the country. Let’s hope we don’t have 11 candidates à la 2001 election. That just wasted votes. Everything will be okay. They should let Zambians abroad vote as well.

  108. Banda can only win eastern and part of lusaka!!
There’s a problem in MMD.And MMD to play with Katele. If they just start insulting him then that’s end of Pakoloko. He’s a man who can help them win luapula, nothern and copperbelt. So if they want continuity let them put katele as campaign manager even if he’s currectly facing charges.

  109. #112 what do you mean by a ‘true Zambian’. Banda is definitely a ‘true Zambian’. Historically all tribes in Zambia came from various parts of Africa, North, South, East and West. The Zambia as we know it is so rich in culture a a result of the travels of our forefathers. You seem to have forgotten your history. It is people with narrow minds who claim to be more Zambian than others. Look at the President of France, Sarkozy. He is the son of immigrants yet he is considered French.

  110. dear no.127, here’s the breakdown of dat balooney;
‘… matako penu bonse pano’ – that’s what my bantu – brain cud decipher at least.
Now if that insnt brazen VULAGARITY, then i dont know what is.

Please be civil dear bloggers, bcoz this blog thing is bringing out some real issues anad Zed shal be saved(not the Nevers way)

  111. I will only vote for Magande or Pande.
    HH is a Tonga
    Sata is Almost Dead
    BY is just silly
Tijeni is also just plain stupid

  112. Its like ignorance is taking toll here.
RB is a pure Zambian Citizen with 100% constitutional rights to serve any office of his choice state security clears him for. The constitution is very clear on qualification for Presidency. “Born of both parents of Zambian nationality” period. RB’s parents are pure Zambian Ngonis from Chipalamba in the heartland of Nkosi yama khosi-Chief Mupezeni. One of his parents is from Malambo. He is a blood young brother to Mama Betty Banda Kaunda. He has served Zambia at the UN, in Egypt, USA and Sweden as top Diplomat besides being FA minister and others.

  113. EN, no need to play to the gallery. It is open secret that, Kaunda children names were influenced by his Wife Kumalambo’s tribe or connections.Kaunda has always regarded himself an easterner. In case you think we are all ignorant. So stop being illusive. Why then did Kaunda not name one of his child a Bemba name despite being born there. Shame on you.

Read the Zambian Constitution what it says on who should be president. We shall be using the same altered Chiluba Constitution remember. RB was not born in Zambia, which means he has to prove his Father and Mother are Zambians and also his grandparents as well. I doubt he can.
I am sorry EN, RB cant win no elections for the MMD. LPM knew that.

  114. Ba haesu, lets not be tribal, the persons we have leballed so far are Zambian, coming from eastern province doesnt make anybody less zambian, lets find ways in choosing the best leader for our country, maybe maureens intensions are rihgt, she has mourned her husband for the last 2months since the news broke, fellow sambians will only mourn for 3months,her it will be 5,i guess by then she will be ready

  115. To Zambians who would like to succeed with good governance, effective economic strategies and future oriented Leader, I would suggest that HH is the best Presidential candidate. But to tribal, Uneducated, uncaring, ignorant Zambians, they will vote for Sata, the finished leader, a man whose teeth are rotten due excessive smoking, a Man who too old to lead young people. Come on Zambia look at Obama in US still young and has alot of energy to rule the country. Dont be tribal be realistic. Sata is dying soon let the young man rule the country.

  116. MMD has more constitutional lawyers than any other Zambian Political party on the scene.Cabinet is full of lawyers. Even Willa Mung’omba a constitutional lawyer is is an active and seasoned MMD Green card carrying member. Professor Patrick Mvunga another flamer of the Zambian constitution is first Cousin to RB.He would not fail to advise him. If the insinuations here had some life, MMD’s NEC would not be overwhelmingly endorsing RB like this if he was constitutionally disqualified.I wish LT could allow me to paste the full 1996 Zambian Constitution here.

  117. H H you are the right person to be in government right now because all I see are old people like Sata,RB they are useless and old to rule the young generation think twice Zambians

  118. Thank you Senior Citizen. You have said it clearly. God willing one day the qualifications for Presidency will be relaxed to include all Zambians. Look at Barak Obama, he’s father was Kenyan.

  119. #146 BIG MAN OR SMALL MIND Am not agreeing with you on this one,i thought you guys home pa Z stopped politics of insults, likewise the Obama you used as your ref does not use the language you have used even if he disagrees with others so for you to call other Zambian ignorant,un educated i guess its yourself who is ignorant, coz you have exposed the level of thouhgts that you have

  120. I still fell the big man,you are just a party cadre who will not hesitate to throw stones anytime,i think the country can move forward in a better way than you may surgest

  121. YOu Zambians are funny, dont you know that Satani is dictator? I wish you knew. look, the old man does not have sound foreign policies to attract the envestors. look at the way he attacked the chinese in the US are those morals? Chiinga sibunjaka chamuntu! you want to ruled another Mugabe a cruel leader? even a snake is better than Satani. Vote for HH an innovative leader, young and fresh, sound foreign policy exposed to internation economy a leader that will meet your needs at your disposal by forming a government for people not for himself like Sata

  122. Other thing, RB has been a card carrying member of MMD since Wezi Kaunda his nephew was killed following endless factional politics that started shaping UNIP.After the Mwanawasa victory, RB started transforming Easterners for a mass patronage shift. In 2006, he delivered on his promise. UNIP ended up with 1 seat with 90 % going MMD blue against a collision UPND,UNIP and FDD not forgetting PF. Today the Mchinji Rail line’s revival and near completion, the Zambian-Mozambique rail line in service, better Roads constructed, revival of agriculture, emerald mining, improving health care and heavy investments in schools there is something Zambia’s conservative province will never easily overlook.

  123. HK you are a liar. KK always considered himself albeit of Malawaian origin. His mother tongue is Bemba and the languagespoken by the Kaundas meaning he and his siblings collectively is and was Bemba.

Betty Kaunda is the Easterner. KK fell out with the Bembas because of their aggressive campaign to try and grab power in the late 60s which led to divisions in UNIP and eventually led to Kaunda falling out with his childhood friends. The Easterners who led a UNIP faction called Pamodzi ku mawa shot it out with the Northerners in divisive struggle that had repurcussions still felt today.

KK speaks Bemba and uses Bembaproverbs to makea point.Stop these lies HK !!!

  124. HK you are a liar. KK always considered himself BEMBA albeit of Malawaian origin. His mother tongue is Bemba and the language spoken by the Kaundas meaning he and his siblings collectively is and was Bemba.Even today. Betty is the Easterner.

KK speaks Bemba and uses Bemba proverbs to make a point.Stop these lies HK !

  125. 146#
we can’t vote HH because of the way he became UPND president!U think we’ve forgotten?
U can’t even compare HH to Obama.Obama was not worken up from sleep like HH.He proved to DNC that he’s capable to deliver not through tribalism like yo HH.
HH came through tribalism.U’re the one brother not educated because u don’t understand how yo fellow won against sikota and chisanga.Obama is very honest with clean record.HH can’t even explain how he became rich.To be honest with you HH can’t even stand if it were USA.Sata better than HH.

  126. Some of the posts on this blog are downright uncouth and embarassing, not only because of their insults but also the levels of ignorance and stupidity exhibited by some bloggers. The most vocal bloggers are actually what one can classify as semi illiterate, and still have obligations with the Examinations Council of Zambia (shibukeni). I urge them to tone down their rhetoric and debate in a cultured and respectful manner. Bukaponya muleke. You can object to something without being objectionable.

  127. Regardless of his parentage, I consider KK to be Bemba through and through.
On Maureen, please……..lets be serious Bane!! There e mores suitable candidates out there.

  128. # 84,?? ?????????? ?? ?????? ?????? ??? ?????!??? ?????!!!

zambians come on!!! at this time and age we should not be discussing low politics of segregation and division of who is tonga, bembe, lozi, more zambian or less zambian!!! if someone qualifies to be zambian by the defination of the constitutions then that person is ZAMBIAN PERIOD. So lets judge people who we want to choose on what they are capable or not other wise we will never go anywhere as a country!

  129. WISCONSIN,it seems that for you to call me a cadre, you are an active participant. I did not mean to hurt anyone but those want to vote for an old man like Sata, who is already applying for death due to his current heart problem yes you are ignorant and uneducated because you dont critically analyse and evaluate real issues that concerns Zambians like. HH is the right candidate for the next bye elections. dont pretend to politics with alot of ignorance comeooooooooon

  130. BIMA.. then you dont know a game of illusion.. Kaunda is not Bemba, he speaks Bemba like any other person like AKA or simataa.
Kuandas mother and father came from malawi, hence can never be Bemba but only Bemba speaking.
BIMA, Kaunda is a manipulator, while he crippled the Bembaz and the tongas from taking prominence.. He highly decorated and promoted the Easterners as they were his major supporters bcose of Malawi commonality. When the Lozi’s tried to insert he mangled them up.
It is shameful that RB was one of the product of this corrupt tribal Kaunda illusive systems of masquerading as a bemba and shouting one zambia one nation. thinking of Him Bieng President Makes me want to PUKE.

  131. HK # 143,

I can see this HK fella is a dreamer without lineage. There is no secret that your blogging is no different from your ifisushi. You have no voting card, no Ground voice, no intervention capacity, no logistical means to run elections and no courage to engage in open air meaningful and impacting debates.Look at reality. NEC is nominating MMD candidate for Presidency.Chief Justice is Sakala, Chief of Staff and overall Defense Chief is Chisuzi,OP Boss is Phiri, Director internal is Easterner, Attorney General is Mumba Malila, Election Chief is Florence Mumba while VJ Mwaanga piecing up the continuity dream team brought RB into the fold and particularly VP post.Good luck to ya.

  132. #162
who told u tht HH is the right candidate?u’ll vote him alone.I’m not ready to vote the man who became into politics through tribalism.Even if he’s good, the background speaks.so boss forget about HH.Maybe he’ll win southern!

  133. # 146 BIG MAN – Ageism shouldn’t be discouraged. In the same vein McCain is contesting the presidency, so the US has a choice of young or old. As for Zambia, it is the young that seem to be dying at a faster rate – we all know why even in the absence of post mortems. Sata’s age shouldn’t be the disqualifier here but I would say he would send Zambia back to the dark ages. The trouble with UPND is, despite the tribalism that gave birth to HH, it was founded on elitism. The guys in UPND thought had a monopoly on brainpower. But guess what? – the ave average Zambian couldn’t give a monkeys. If the average Zambian has his way, which he will one day – maybe 2011, then the political structure will

  134. Russiamoscow, you’re a tribalist yourself, how can you point a HH being trible I thot you PF headed by SATTTAN dont go to the convention why you are tribal very trible atleast HH voted for by UPND NEC so dont pretend to know when you dont I already which tribal you. whats wrong, dont you know that there is always a starting point? riches, because you are thief by tribal thats you are about other people’s riches come on change your behaviour!!

  135. Senior Citizen, no one is preventing RB from standing but what most peiple are saying is that he doesnt have a the qualities of a PRESIDENT. Your claims for RB’s victory in Eastern Province surely hold no water. Even if he did, I doubt that its enough ascend to the presidency. At least to any one reasoning, it shows that he can do as a campaign manager not as the candidate. You dont Prof Mvunga or the pack of MMD constitutional lawyers to advise the president! Thats the duty of the ATTORNEY GENERAL,MINISTER OF JUSTICE AND SOLICITOR GENERAL. Senior citizen go and rest and come back when you are fresh to make more meaningful contributions. We dont want a president just to fill the vacancy-RB

  136. #164 so those Malawians you have mentioned could have ‘done’ something to Levy to take over the Presidency. We are watching you!! No More Foreigners near the Presidency of Zambia, Never again!!

  137. I am Bemba and I am ashamed to here nonesense coming from people like HK. Kebby Musokotwane, Elijah Mudenda and Mainza Chona served Zambia in the highest posts in land. They are/were Southerners. General Haimbe was not only deputy air commander but Zambia Airways MD. Job Michello, Munkombwe, kebby Musokotwane all. Francis Kaunda, Alex Shapi, Simon Kapwepwe were all Northerners. Should I expand the list.
Bembas are bitter over the Chilnje conference which resulted in a night without a President and later on UPP. We felt we deserved to lead Zambia and I think we still do. No wonder the rest of the country fears Northerners and do not want Sata. HK get an education.

  138. HK,
Keep bluffing with your useless incorrigible hatred for Dr. Kaunda who is honorably enjoying his retirement with easy and dignity while you are having emotional distress. MMD is locked in victories. Talk of your headache to out maneuver MMD whose victory is clearly a done deal. Elections are in November, the voter Register is the same old one,ZAF will transport ballot boxes. ZP and OP will offer physical security whilst you are busy blogging here. You have sent no ngwee to Ba Sata but just yapping hot air day in and out. This election, going by the season will require not less that ZK 7 Billions for a party to make an impact. You have no vehicles as yet from Taiwan, and no money to pay ZRA.

  139. # 165 russia!!!zambian is not developing becoz of chaps who think like you!!! pliz base your arguments on real issues with facts than foolish thought without grounds!!!

  140. #165 BIG MAN, Bakusoka manje the country will not develop with minds like yours,i asked you since you claim Sata is dying, give us the date and if you fail it means you are ignorant not as you may claim to be clever

  141. I am shocked that 44 years after independence. With posters from all over the world, Tribalism is still rife. Stone Age politics in the Internet age.

What a disappointment. As for maureen asa President. Total nonesense. An ambitious, greedy and pwer hungry woman. Whatis she doing following the body around ? As far as I know bamukamfwilwa are secluded and do not spend time quarreling in public with enemies\friends of her late husband. Disgusting. Un Zambian.

  142. Einstein,

The Sweetness of this is that each party has the right to field their own best choice.MMD’s NEC has a choice according to my latest fillers received. Mabenga has has opted to drop, Mulongoti, Shikapwasha while the First lady has send her signals that her word for no ambitions stands. You have Sata with a ruptured heart and confused personality here to serve the interest of plunders and Mugabe he calls his hero as first Guest to his wishful inaugurations.Good luck to you.I leave the thread to official party activists.

  143. Hey all,

Very intersting comments. Teta is just being Teta as usual – his usual oportunitistic, vile, cantekerous and disgusting self! As usual he eats with both hands – one with Maureena and the other with RB.

I am not a sympathiser of any particular individual- but Maureen had no right to ask Sata to leave the body viewing – It is a State funeral for crying out loud, not a private one!

Mwananwasa was the President of Republic of Zambia! Need we say more?? Need we say more. she has just shown to some of us who know her, who she really is behin dthat mask.

I sympathise that we have lost a leader and I’m affected by it, but hey such behaviour by Maureen is just so shameful.

  144. I am actually still shocked by it all. Maureen hasactually been a pest throughout the whole Mwanwasa presidency. She has assumed an an overweening arrogance and asense of entitlement.

What makes her Presidential material ? Sleeping in a grarge does not turn you into a car. Therefore being close and married to the President does not make you the President. Otherwise a minister’s driver would claim to be a Minister on this type of thinking. And a Northerner suggested this nonesense. Jeeez!!!!

  145. #169
I’m not a tribalist but you’re the one.I’m trying to give you a true picture of HH.Some tongas even said only a tonga would succed mazoka.Do u know what happed?HH became UPND president. So how do u expect people from other parts of a country to trust such a party? Can u explain to me please!I’m sure everyone knows that including yoself.
UPND was good party during mazoka’s time but when HH took over everything went bad.I’m not against a tonga to be a president but i don’t like the way mazoka was succeded.I’m a man of principles. If i were HH i wouldn’t have contested the post after hearing that only a tonga would succed Mazoka. why?In oder to show that UPND was not a tribal party.

  146. I love Zambia, look at every one going at each other. come election day, we are all still going t o vote, be it HH, Sata, Marueenioh, Ulupiya banda, Ngandu Magande, or danny Pule.

  147. Is the first lady still going to be staying at State House or are there any arrangements being made for the first family?

  148. For all the insults which have been hurled at Maureen. I am informed that your so called wife-snatcher aka second wife is not really as bad as you hear.

She became Levy’s second wife after he divorced his first wife after because the first wife allegedly mistreated or rather disrespected by him.

The man did not have a very happy marriage although rumour has it he himself was kind to her.

Can you remember how cabbages where thrown on the streets after he won the presidency?

The man meant good to us and we didn’t treat him good either so please reduce throwing stones on Maureen.

  149. It is amazing how nearly everyone from MMD wants to be president, Its Sad but interesting, After mwanawasa is at the park Zambia wont be a play ground, i can see it coming.

  150. NO: 116, MMD has sold ZANACO, ZCCM, Zambia Airways, UBZ, ZCBC,to mention a few tax payers companies. Next given chance will be UNZA, BANK OF ZAMBIA, and finally State House. And No 153 says we want foreign investors, shame on you!!!they are infestors, look at South Africa. We need Zambians to develop Zambia and not fill the country with Chinese.

  151. #189 , true maureen has been there for levy but ever marriage has its cracks sad to point out but, What happened to Betty and KK, then Vera and the pregnancy, then Maureen with the Indian at Mukobeko so rumour has it, state House is a tempting place, i wonder why, i hope the maureen story is not true please!!!!!

  152. Maureen is only good to those she wants to be good to. She will be leaving State House coz the acting president has to move in.

The president of Zambia resides at State House and not government house ( the offical residence of the VP).

What bothers me is that the MMD (Teta yet again) has suggested that the govt helps her to look after the children. I mean heck, not with my money! She is perhaps the richest woman in Zambia today as we speak. Those kids are certainly not poor, neither is she – very far from it. Not to mention Mwanawasa’s benefits she will get for them and herself.

You can just look at the assests Mwanawasa declared at the supreme court in 2006 as his net worth.

  153. I drove passed town centre and an eating place in town and heard stories, people asking if APPARENTLY the Indian hat Levy busted Maureen ith t State Lodge will now be released, since the big man is gone, i nearly fainted wih shock, 2 places same story,

I hear she had even goneon holiday to an island with th same man, i seek clarification too, please!!!

  154. 148. Senior Citizen, Be that as it may, the point people are trying to make on Mr. Banda’s “qualification or non qualification” to succeed Mwanawasa is that the MMD itself is at the forefront of bending its own rules to suit itself!! It used the same argument to disqualify Chirwa, unless your memory is also conveniently short. Nobody is saying they don’t understand the constitution. To the contrary, they understand it so well that they manipulate it to suit them!

  155. #146 Whoever appointed you spokes person for the Zambian electorate we do not and honestly we don’t want to know. That man so called Sata is the same guy who was advocating for a third term for FTJ and when upright Zambians challenged the duo to respect the constitution he backed out. Don’t think we forget all those things and are going to waste our votes on Sata.

  156. Be weary as we all know MMD is filled with trick-sters and desparate men. Someone remind me about the constitutional provsions for qualification of a president. Doesn’t one have to be born in Zambia and lived there 20 years continuously – with both parents Zambian- I know from literature posted online that Rupiah Banda was Born in Gwanda Southern Rhodesia – present day Zimbabwe.

  157. i think it is too early for these politicians to be arguing about presidential succession. let us give ourselves time until we bury our beloved president, because all this arguing won’t help in any way….

  158. Wizas wishes to unreserveddly withdraw his comment no.40 which appears to say that Hon. mutati is not clean. He also apologises completely to Mr mutati and anyone concerned for any injury to Mr mutati or any harm resulting from his piece. This is election time and Mr Mutati deserves a chance to stand for the top post just like every other zambian. The piece was writen badly and appears to dishonor LPM who appointed Mr mutati as minister in the first place. It does not fit to be on this blog and does not fit Mr mutati. Sorry sorry sir. This blogging got Wizas carried away.

  159. RB used to screw my nigerian physics teacher at chizongwe no one in moral in MMD we used to see Professor Mvunga and RB come to this woman

  160. 1st of all Muareen is not worthy even talking about.can we debate sensible and potential candidates.if you want 2 push an agenda 4 a woman there are very credible women in zambia who are by far worhty the discussion than Maureen.eg Inonge Mbikusita,Mataka the UN woman, Margaret mwanakatwe cummon zambians you are above this nonsense.

  161. The Tongas who said
they wanted a Tonga in UPND defected back to MMD.PF enjoys support from Bembas Because Levy said they were thieves.HOW IS SATA GOING TO WIN ELECTIONS BY CAMPAINING IN 4 PROVINCES?Lusaka will not vote for him like last time because HH is nolonger new in politics ,and indications are that a lot of people who left With Sakwiba have gone back to UPND .you wont see this in the POST because they dont want you to know.SO DO THE MATHS

  162. #205 Sexy Mwaka, if you nigerian teacher’s garden needed watering, RB did his duty not to let dem flowers dry, seen? In case your garden needs watering too, Dread have de slam fi rock you all night long…

  163. Someone asked about the fate of Mwanawasa family. As a Government obligation for that office,President Mwanawasa’s family will never be left in the could regardless of the splush properties the late acquired through years of own hard work in a professional career. It is GRZ’s obligation to provide them shelter, transport, security and staff until the last child reaches 21 years. Some of the late’s official fleet will be given to the family according to the Civil service conditions he served under. They will be secured a VIP transition home before their home is finished. The funds in treasury already allocated for his retirement home will make GRZ expedite the Construction. He already chose a site.

  164. We are moral and accountable society.Chiluba boobed over KK but LPM has left standards of mature leadership.Even those of you if ever you get to that level of service beyond blogging, we will give full incentives of that office.

  165. # 118 ‘autonomous’ you must not just throw tantrums here. Think before you post your insults. Be serious for once

  166. After reading most of the comments here,I am still not sure on what basis some people are suggesting that Maureen succeeds her late husband. Has she held any public office for us to judge her credentials?I remember LPM suggesting to Chirwa to hold a ward position before he could consider running for the Presidency.I think the same standard must be upheld if Maureen wishes to aspire to higher office.Secondly,RB will not be the best choice simply because he is VP.RB was not subjected to an election to confirm the will of the people. It was purely LPM’s prerogative.Even if we did not agree with his choice for VP, we had no option but to accept.I will leave the choice for MMD President to the MMD

  167. #54, Hens. U r spot on. Any1 can die at any age. In fact nowadays in the Southern part of Africa its mostly young ones who are dying because of ifya kwikataikata. In any case having an advanced age does not necessarily mean lack of fresh ideas. Do u retire dons cos they ve reached a certain age?

  168. Why not let anyone who qualifies under Zambia’s constitution contest in the by-election. Not enthroning RB bcoz of stupid emotions and no leadership. For once follow the constitution. If monkeys or any human being is Zambian and qualifies according to constitution let them compete in the by-election.

Nyirenda is a lawyer and u expect him to give constitutional counsel but all you get is foolishness. Now u wonder why we don’t seem to go anywhere. We need leaders to guide and serve not these caddles. We have a constitution so let it take control of the by-election bcoz all are subject to it not to personalities.

  169. #179 Senior citizen, I dont recall suggesting any name befiting for presidency. However, what I said and repeat now is that RB would be a worthless president and Zambia after 44years of independence deserves a better president than RB. RB would be retrogressive and wouldnt reflect the achievements Zambia has made as a nation in all sectors incuding education. Enlighten me on RB’s academic credentials just as a starter. We saw what the uneducated FTJ did. Perharps its time we put a minimum qualification in the constitution. A first degree could be acceptable but preferably a Masters so that we attract only people of the highest brains before we even talk about morals, integrity, principals etc

  170. ctd…from 216 Sata isnt a candidate I would even think about, like RB, he is a geriatric candidate with extremely humble qualifications if any. I seriouly think its time we chose a vibrant young Zambian to lead the nation. Prties are free to float any rubbish they well please but Zambians have the right to choose the most suitable from the given basket. I simply cant comprehend how RB can move the nation forward. Perharps give me just one of his visons for Zambian. LPM had one, to render Zambia free from corruption and its that stance that won him the popularity and gained Zambia the admiration by the donor agencies and ultimately leading to massive debt write offs. Now we want someone who

  171. Hope our leaders will now learn to see leadership beyond themselves. Kaunda never saw leadership beyond and besides himself. Chiluba did the same thing until his third term bid failed he short circuted the nation with Levy. Levy operated the same way and couldn’t trust anyone for party vice president while he picked an outsider for VP. Now u see why there is infighting in MMD.
Smooth transition and leadership training is the test of a good leader.

Zambia has everything needed to be wealthy and it’s people happy, but no leaders to guide us through. We are a proud and peace loving people but short of fahters in leadership. I think Levy tried his best lets build on. Constitution must guide us.

  172. ctd from 217…look beyond the achievements of LPM and better the record not just equalling it. What MMD is floating now is an agenda of someone to simply put on LPM’s jacket and start driving to complete LPM’s projects the idea of which I find nauseating, cheap, low grade and lack of innovation and developmental ideas. Perharps its time we looked outside the parties and considered people like Caleb Fundanga (BOZ Governor). He is everything you would need in a president. Exactly whats is our problem. Why are even debating RB,Sata, Mabenga ba senior citizen? RB BELONGS TO THE BIN

  173. Infact, we need a to strengthen the office of the vice president. The president needs to choose a running mate whom he floats his name around with. And the constitution should empower the veep to take over automatically when the president dies or is incapacitated. Then we can avoid the expensive and needless bye elections. Look at Botswana, not far from us. Festus Mogae had Ian Kharma (current president) as his vice for 10 years and when he stepped down, Kharma simply took over to finish off his term. NO ELECTIONS. LPM had Kavindele,Mwape, Mumba and our own RB as his veep in less than 7 years. What nonsense is that. A veep is supposed to be a person being prepared for president. ZAMBIA!

  174. Please fellow Zambian don’t make mistake by voting for Sata. He is the bigest dictate. Its like voting for Zimbabwean president. Vote for him and you will regrete.

  175. What should be made clear is that any person from any party who
meets the Constitutional criteria is free to contest the Presidential elections. Any suggestions, whether by design or
omission, to the effect that an MMD person should complete the rest of the Presidential term, is unconstitutional, misleading, fraudulent, patronising and down right subconscious rigging of the forthcoming elections. When are we going to learn to abide
by what currently obtains legally – instead of pandering to selfish factors and reasoning that is devoid of any integrity whatsoever. Some refer to the need for ‘continuity’ – is it continuity to perpetuate current levels of poverty?

  176. No one has any monopoly to power or ideas of how to improve a nations economy. Some may point to ‘the economic strides’ that the late Mwanawasa achieved for the country. But there may be others who can do even better – and not necessarily from the MMD. I for one do not believe in total liberalisation of an economy. If anything, it is a receipe for continued divide between the haves and have nots. There is always a simmering pot of social upheaval underlying such an economic policy – I don’t see any meaningful socio-economic cushion for those that are genuinely unable to survive on their own.

  177. I have just changed my mind. I went for a Diner where i got 1st hand info on moreen, awe sure nomba nala votela fye HH. even though mbita Chitala was suggesting that any opposition leader who will win the presidency stands a chance to be impeached.

Apologies to the male folk, that i may have offended. WOMEN are not ready to rule Zambia yet. Bravo HH, leza amulenkelele

  178. The idea of the Presdent’s body flying all over the country is a sad situation, pse do not trust ZAF Helicopters, the Helis are not properly serviced by airforce. We may end up with another disaster if it clashes.

Maureen pse keep your ass in Lusaka.

  179. in what capacity is teta speaking? he says he is going to give us a report on sata and morini plus why RB must stand. please teta spare us ur crap. give those reports to your children.

  180. Teta is just tactifully sending a message to Maureen and her followers to stay away from the big boys race..Thanks Teta!!

  181. LT Bloggers forgive but I had to copy and paste this thread:

  184. Am not sure if i have full information about the following leaders. They look better than the rest of our otherleaders.
    1. Sakwiba Sikota
    2. Never Mumba
    3. Rupiya Banda
    4. G. Miyanda.
    5. S. Masebo

Do you guys have any negatives against these guys? please share you information on this blog. Any other names that can help Zambia are welcome.

  185. Very boooring,i think this is the time for Zambia to reflect on the significance of nominating MP’s with atleast a Master. We need people that can think independently and constructive. Lets break this cycle of standard one politians. These people have not confronted sticking issues that affect our lives, they have outlived there usefulness and least can contribute at all. We see a shift in position on many issues in recent days.I think we need to know credential and track records of these politicians. What have they contributed other than mouth pieces. We have made many mistakes and surely we can’t afford any!!

  186. #237 We don’t know much about Sakwiba and what he stands for besides the fact that he is a politician who wants to be president. That to me is a sign that this man could easily get corrupted by the absolute powers the constitution of Zambia betows on presidents. Nevers cannot be trusted because he is hard headed and was masquarading as a preacher man when infact he was vying for political office. Rupiah Banda was born in Zimbabwe and to my knowledge does not qualify to stand for the presidency, besides I believe we have younger more energetic politicians who can shape the future of Zambia better than these recycled politicians.G Miyanda people who succeed work with others no by themselves.

  187. Empty vessels make the most noise. Miyanda Zee! Still water runs deep.

HH, Sata are just making noise.

    Miyanda for President!!

  188. #244, being born in Zimbabwe, (S.Rhodesia), does not disqualify R.B, or anyone. The constitution only says: must be Zambian citizen. Its both the parents who are expected to have been born in Zambia. So if they were Zambians who had moved to Zim; like any of you in diaspora, that carries no exclusion.
This was precisely aimed at KK.

  189. RB is UNIP. He njoyed in those days when they used FIAT 132 GLS as official cars for Minister. Chosing RB is like putting new wine in old wine bottles. Please let this country move forward!! Choose young men who are exposed, creative, good vision, adaptability and market oor country internationaly.

The International community knows the history of all our leaders. We want a fresh leader who can be invited to White House, 10 down street or Moscow Duma. LPM and Kafupi failed the criteria. Viva HH or somebody new from MMD!! Sata abash! I wonder how you Zambians can vote for Sata in your proper minds. Why mufuna kubwelela ku mbuyo!! Please vote wisely. Dont vote just on the basis of tribe!!

  190. #182 Russia Moscow!! Take it easy, you shall continue to be haunted by your own tribal-gap hallucinations. I guess if HH wins you can just faint or suffer a stroke!

I hope you are educated enough to make your own judgement on the calibre of presedential aspirants!! Please stop the tribalism tag otherwise oneday you shall end up being beaten up or worse by someone who shall differ with you. That is the price!! Take care!!

  191. hai it is clear that the mmd knows that the man him self is going in to state house i mean the next president its mr sata.we are not ready for the beach to rule zambia

  192. #246

Do you know that 1937 is a very long time ago? Rupiah Banda is a Malawian born in Zimbabwe and now staying in Zambia! He is from the federation of Nyasaland era, He is out of touch with today’s society. If RB was born in 1937, when were his parents born especially say the mother? My assumption is that she was not born any later than 1910, now if this is correct or near the exact time, we can see that during this time it was not clear where Northern, Southern Rhodesia and Nyasaland began and ended. So in short Rupiah is not Zambian. His parents were not born in Zambia and he was also not born in Zambia which means he is not Zambian.

  193. Teta has finally vindicated Maureen! Fellow bloggers, yesterday most of you were hurling insults & all sorts of unprintables @ the poor lady, for what? Just because someone suggested she runs for President? All sorts of rumours & inuendo was spat in Maureen’s direction. Pls, let’s be more rational in expressing our views instead of tarnishing innocent people’s names on the blog. Freedom of expression is a great thing (thanks to anonymous blogging on the internet) but that should never be an excuse for libel. I rest my case, comrades!

  194. #251. he suggestion is foolish . The woman is not even an MP neither a politician. She is were she is as a wife. Just bringing up the subject annoyed us!! Sorry

  195. #251. his suggestion is foolish . The woman is not even an MP neither a politician. She is were she is as a wife. Just bringing up the subject annoyed us!! Sorry

  196. I think its a good idea for Rupiah Banda to stand and it is important that he does so if the MMD want to win.As already we can see if we are to think of someone to continue the work Levy did and comming from the party it’s him. Outside the party would be Sata even though they might be a few adjustments.
This will be a tough election.
    Lets wait and see.

  197. ba teta b4 then we dont even know who sent you to fabricate amarubish yalya mwa bikile mupost sometimes u lose ur senses i dont know which side u are on i doubt it like number 35 has said just do what u have told abupuba

  198. Let’s see which other leaders come up with. It’s sad that someone as good as HH has, his works far beyound sacrifice- which is key for leadership success. When I was in Zambia, a lot of people who worked under him complained that he does not support local staff, blue colour workers who worked for his audit firm. I was shocked to learn that he had all these millions, yet he could not share with his workers who made him rich. Am not sure if these were true stories but i gave him some benefit of doubt until the tribal splits with SS. Should he be given another chance…or he is too risky a choice for Zambia?

  199. Bati ci Maureen chalimoneka bwino mailo pa Trade Fair. Ba LPM balemoneka abaina, balilila sana ku Paris Hilton Surgery? Chi Maureen calemoneka kwati celeya ku wedding though in black! Black wedding may be?

  200. #251,

dont be so shallow minded, 1+1 cant be 11. if the sky is blue let it be blue, dont change issues and claim tha sky is at a distance thats why it looks blue.

    Go for a brain scan.
Dont change the mood na wishiba!

  201. #259

walasa, load shading no monako iyaku trade fare, landa tunfwe. ati BLACK WEDDING……

someone update me ni isa iyiliko

  202. I think for Rupiah Banda to stand is only good for MMD so that it remains ticking & united, though I am sure some leaders/cades within MMD will leave & join PF or UPND. I think it’s not ok to tell your opposition parties to give R.B. a chance, I know you want your jobs and your unrealistic proposed increment, without looking at the economic status of our nation (Think of health, education, agriculture, etc).
NOMINATE YOU CANDIDATE & THEN WE WILL VOTE. ANYWAY WE WILL CHOOSE OUR OWN LEADER TO LEAD US. PLEASE DO NOT IMPOSE ON US ANY OF YOUR CHOICE, BECAUSE THE GOVT IS FOR THE PIPO AND BY THE PIPO.

  203. Teta is just trying to remind maureen what she said,if she is as principled as the hubby was ,she will keep her words.
Teta is the most USELESS politicain i have ever seen.
Zambian’s lets be very objective in the presidential bye elections.
Did you see Vernon indorse Old RB on National TV ? i was scared if he is in the campaign commitee then his tricks will work again.
Guys ,Zambia is not a one Party state, since 1991 same old lies.Levy made a diffrence yes but lets not experiment with A UNIP fella.

  204. I strongly feel People like TETA should not be near our political system- they have very bad ideas which end up corrupting our good plans/ideas. I just wish that people in rural areas had access to these oniline blogs and also local papers. As long as the rural people have no access to the news and information about these leaders, they will continue to vote wrongly. This is the reason why these guys go for rural people as we are seeing the current “tour de rural”- in Zambia rural people determine the results of elections ( which includes vote rigging)

  205. we are not in need of MMD MULI AMAFONTINI sana lets charge our goverment we are not in need of controlling fulls every time,we need a charge for the sharp ones do us good ba zed.TURNING A FUNERAL INTO A WEDDING TOO BAD FOR LUBONO CONTROL YO MOTHER.

  206. But baMonku balileta confusion. They didn’t want to be paraded kwati ni mbulube. Nomba fiKomando fyali container, kaili tafwata kwa ku bombela.

  207. some one help me understand,

the country declared a national mourning period from 19th august (21 days)but honestly speaking i think i have lost my arithmetic.is 3rd sept 21 days after 19 or may be someone lost track on giving the actual dates of events?

  208. Stop yapping pipo RB will be president. No opposition leader will make it. Already pipo are feeling sorry for LPM and MMD as they campaigne around the provinces. After burial there will not be enough time. If opposition leaders are not campaigning now they have lost out.

  209. #265 Eddie 2000 you are right, just in case she turns around then we play her the old tapes.

whats important too is to focus on someone that has the right qualities, should’nt really matter which race, tribe or party.

  210. Guys, lets realise that even in his death, they have continued to use Levy to warm the hearts of Zambians. To common Zambian it looks noble and good that they are taking the body round the country…bua alas….some of us can not be fulled…they are using levy to warm the hearts of Zambians, they are campaining…ask tetamashimba, he knows what is going on. Infact he even knows that sata is taking over, did you not wonder why he has become soft on sata lately…..come on guys! lets keep our eyes open.

  211. Its Like Mwanawasa’s relatives want Magande as shakufuswa says, thinking he will be doing them favours and continue with the family tree.

  212. #275. Mavado, you know what mate,i think RB is the one to me that seems more of a stooge than Magande..but then what do LMP’s relatives have to do with who we vote for as next president ,unless the’re the majority of voters in the country.

  213. MMD should just let RP stand to serve the almost-dead party from divisions and to serve zambia from this horrific dictator called Sata. If RP stands, he will win Eastern, northwestern, central, western, a bit of luapula, a bit of southern while sata will only take lusaka, CB, northern and a bit of luapula. Sata cant even keep his party together, once you fall out of his favour you are his enemy for life. As it is some provinces are already on his hatred list, we dont want such a horrible tribalist and dictator for president. Even God cant punish zambia that much, especially after taking LPM away

Abash SATAnism

  216. Maureen is out of race already.its just the nyandule with wig and small voice chibombamilimo trying to drag her into the mud.she says she doesn’t want to stand.

  217. MMD has played a mind game on the zambian people, taking the body round the country is campaing strategy, they are busy singing songs about chembe bridge, the railline in easten, today they are in solwezi u will hear what is going to be said.by the time the body goes round the nine provinces it will be amen.

  218. Much as we are grieving, I think people are taking this issue too far, why should we be told to maintain the status quo?(Rupiah and MMD), why are people concerned about the MMD spliting? Do they think MMD is the only thing that matters in Zambia? We all know that when one dies nothing bad is said about that person in public so we all know one or two things that did not go our way. Moreover Zambia is not an extension of Mwanawasa’s life, he was marely our president and would have at one time gone. So lets be realistic and give proper guidance not based on emotions we are currently feeling. And who said a widow in mourning should be seen in public like Maureen is doing? what about values?

  219. We thought you were a true symbol of democracy. But what we see are nothing but insults. Two wrongs can not make a right. This lack of respect for one another shall take us far back. Let us learn to respect each other’s opinions. You do not need to insult somebody just because they disagree with you or because they belong to another party or a different tribe or race. Zambians should be above this. We expect more reasoning from Zambians than what we are reading.

  220. #273 pipi,i think you have also lost you arithmetic, yourS is not giving 21 days as wel.

may be am having a shoch with this mourning period.PIPI HELP

  221. It is only in MMD where anybody can say anything especially ministers. Why RB can not control them i dont know.Chibombamilimo is almost uncontrollable because he can say as he wishes.Teta is the same. This means there is no unity of purpose let alone collective responsibility in the MMD.

  222. This Lusakatimes is viewed by the whole world. Can you be more constructive in your critising one another. You are killing the image of your country. To advance economically in that country so full of resourses, you need huge investiments but only if you people show a humanity. If you cant accomodate one another, how can you accomodate foreigners. You Zambians are good peoples, but ano rotten nut can cause you to spit the rest.

  223. Kalabenikofye ka Teta. Lets talk about something sensible.

Bushe fwebalufya ama voters card tukavota shani ai???

  224. Uwakwisano you very ignorant person. Thats why our grandparents always tell us to heed the advice of our parents. For the paper to note Mr Nyirenda as a prominent lawyer, it means just that. These are journalists, enlisted to track someone’s background. This man’s net worth can make whatever peanuts you make look like toilet paper. But anyway, Mr Nyirenda’s predictions have come true, so what ignorant comment do you have now my friend.
